Thank you so much! This clear, easy to follow tutorial has saved me three times now. I’ve replaced my rollers twice and today I realized that the reason my dryer stopped turning after putting a very heavy, wet comforter in it it was that the belt had broken. I used this tutorial again and the leftover spare belt from the last roller replacement to save myself from buying a new dryer!

Steve, this was a superb tutorial. What a great job you did. You simplified everything with good pace & time for us to absorb your instructions. Your a thoughtful teacher. The camera shots were clear, poignant & well thought out. Thank you, you helped me get out of a pickle . I almost ditched my 6 year old dryer for a new one. That's much too soon, & the thought of having to buy another new one knowing it won't last either is ridiculous. Have a great weekend my good man !

Thank you for this!! I’ve had my dryer for 8 years and recently it started this ridiculous thumping. The dryer worked, so I knew it had to be something fix-able (I wasn’t about to spend $400 on a new one). This video convinced me it was the support rollers. I took my dryer apart as the video instructed and, sure enough, the rollers were a mess. This video was clear, to the point, no-nonsense. Thank you. I’m am so NOT a do-it-yourself kind of guy but this video made it simple. Thank you.

I've called so many appliance repair places around me and told them I needed a roller kit put on my dryer and they either won't return my call or they try to sell me something else like a new thermostat. I think I'm going to try the repair myself.

Thank you for saving me hundreds of dollars! Though we didn’t end up needing to replace the rollers, we found a button that made its way into the felt padding and was snagging the drum. Your video helped me diagnose and take apart everything in much less time than figuring it out on my own. Very thankful!

That spring clip/nut in front of the roller bracket is brutal for me right now. I've used them before but this one must be a hair smaller than normal cuz I've used a few things in arms reach at the moment including a socket that fits perfectly around the outer ring of the spring nut. Yet even pushing extremely hard it still refuses to slide onto the post.

The rear felt, front felt and the two rollers are my next thing to do with this old dryer (1990). I used another of your videos to replace my belt and idler pulley. It worked perfectly, and the dryer became much more quiet - for about a half hour. Then the old noises came back. I can only assume it is the rollers, and at $21 if that is not the noise source it is all good because my 28 year old dryer will have a few more brand new parts. Thanks for sharing this series of videos!

Thank you for your easy to follow videos. I used them to first change out a worn pulley and fraying belt and second to replace the drum rollers. The cost for each (with tax) was just over $34.00. The service call alone would have been $ 145.00, not to mention labour, parts, tax, parts, and disposal fee. You saved me literally hundreds. Cheers!

God Bless you sir for this video. My parents thought they were going to need a brand new dryer when it started making that loud banging noise. I found this video, followed it to the T, turned her back on & it sounded smooth & like new. None of us had ever opened up a dryer before tonight. I just used a new belt & rollers. I also used rubbing alcohol on the shafts that the rollers are on, to clean them well. THANK YOU!
(the outer rubber on one of the rollers came completely off & was worn out. that was apparently our problem btw.)

*Excellent, fantastic teacher and speaker!!* Thank you! Most UA-cam tutorials are done by big egos who want to feel important and take 10 minutes just to introduce the project, but this gentleman gets right to it and cares about the viewer, not himself. He's not some unprofessional hack who can't teach or spends his time telling us about his life in a long introduction, he's a quality teacher. Thank you again.

My 23 years old Maytag dryer was pretty noisy at start.
    One drum roller was stiff.
I removed it, clean it, lubricate and put it in place, facing back.
    No more noise, no cost.
Hoping it will do for next 23 years.
If not, small job to order a new roller and install it, now that I know it take four tools to do this job.
    Thank you.

I love that I can watch your videos and do my own repairs. I have replace a broken idler pulley and belt, put it all back together without any problem. When I plugged it in and started it, there was a clicking noise and the drum stopped turning, guess next step is to replace the drum rollers and hopefully it will running like new again. I don't know of anything else to do, so maybe before I order the rollers you could give me some suggestions to check for 1st.

It's not that that simple to get the front panel back on at the bottom hooks. I notice the edit at 8 mins 27 secs. It takes multiple tries to get it in just right. I've had that happen to me every time I had to work on the dryer. All the repairs are easy, but the front panel.........frustrating.

Me and my girlfriend moved into a new place recently, they had hookups but we had nothing to hook up to them lmao. Her boss had a dryer fixed by someone for $400 and the thing still sounded like death. He was so mad that he got a new washer and dryer set and just gave us this set. I found out what's wrong with it, got new rollers and a hex nut screw set for about $40 total, and so far the thing sounds brand new. Thanks for the easy to follow guide

What a great video! We have a 9-year-old Maytag Centennial that looks exactly like this one and it's been squeaking for a few days. We were worried we would have to buy a new one and knew we'd never find another workhorse like this one. Found this video, ordered the parts from Amazon, and fixed it in under 25 minutes. We've only ever done something like this one other time and that was to take the back off and change a fuse. So, we're pretty proud to have fixed our dryer ourselves. Thanks for sharing this video because without it--we'd be out $500.00 or more for a new dryer.

Thank you for this video! It helped me remove the panel and drum. We recently bought a home and both the washer and dryer came with it. The dryer recently started smelling like something is hot. I disassembled the rear and cleaned everything, cleaned all ducts right before move-in. There is was some slight squealing and sounded like it's dragging. It will run for a while then seize-up and stop. I immediately open the door and unplug it. I never let it run without being in the basement. I disassembled the front panel and removed the drum. The felt around the drum is old and worn and has rubbed the paint down to the metal. Is the felt replaceable? The belt is is old also. I rotated the motor and heard the slight squeal... I'm hoping the motor has gone bad, although it's still under warranty.

This went EXACTLY as he instructed and to the letter. It would behoove you to clean out the lint screen ductwork thoroughly if it has never been done before. My dryer is 22 years old. The lint and items that came out of there was unbelievable. Turn the dryer upside down with the drum out naturally and shake it out. It will dislodge all the buildup. It will dry much better and get noticeably hotter than before.

My lower roller got hair wrapped around the shaft. Locked the roller in place and wore a flat spot on the roller. Might not be a bad idea to open it up periodically and clean out the inside. It's a ridiculously easy dryer to work on.

Same exact situation with me. Opened it up and the lower roller was twisted up in so much hair that I could barely even turn it by hand.

@@WoodWisp its not a good design, but I don't see how you could change the design to improve it. Maybe a better seal on the drum? It is frustrating. It's the only real flaw in the dryer

@Jeremy4876 I'd start with however the hair got there in the first place. It's a really weird spot for hair to even get to, maybe if the air intake/exhaust were repositioned it would help. Or if it's coming from where the drum presses against the back of the dryer, maybe a different type of gasket lining where the felt is. But I'm not a mechanic, let alone savy with any appliances but mills, hence why I needed this video lol

I was able to do this and it worked but 2 weeks later the same thing happened to the new wheel? Any ideas what is causing this?
