If you have hashimotos ... LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS. The vitamins, the meds, the websites, the food sensitivities. This is THE BEST summary you will find. Also...STOP EATING SUGAR RIGHT NOW.

Completely agree. I have hashimoto's and I feel horrible after eating sweets (not diabetic).

It’s true. I fall asleep after eating sugar and it tires me terribly. Alcohol makes me tired the next day.
But hey, we gotta live, sometimes you just want to have sweets or a drink. I try to limit it to holidays and I drink alcohol very seldomly.
      It’s just not worth it.
      Cafeïne is terrible too.

I completely agree. I avoid alcohol like the plague. Chocolate is another trigger so most definitely due to the caffeine. And yet another trigger for me is decaf lattes from either Starbucks or DD. NEVER FAILS. Thing is, I am totally fine when I drink decaf coffee that I make at home (yes, I know that decaf coffee still contains a bit of caffeine). I'm thinking that it's because their decaf contains a higher percentage of caffeine than the store bought version or perhaps their's contain more acid. Whatever the case, I avoid it. Bottom line, all autoimmune diseases stem from a leaky/poor gut, hence healing it is critical if one wants to really heal from these types of diseases.

Dr. David Brownstein said he could reduce the amount of thyroid replacement by 3/4 by adequately replacing iodine. I have been able to reduce my porcine thyroid replacement for the first time in years. I began 2 drops of 2% Lugols increasing by 2 drops every week. I now am taking 6 gtts twice a day. My hands and feet that have been ice cold all my adult life, are now toasty warm...such a wonderful benefit! Middle Tennessee Rita ❤

The basic problem lies in the fact that most INSURANCE companies WILL NOT COVER full panel thyroid tests! The INSURANCE companies rule our health issues....not the doctors! Insurance companies basically binds the doctors hands!

    • @robertrichmond5901

Yeah, but they could stop pretending the full panel isn't helpful or that we are crazy. I avoid the doctor's office like the plague except for the annual; no practitioner has ever actually helped me to feel better with this condition. I'd rather amputate on my own than suffer through another over priced, humiliating, unfruitful visit. This man--he is sent from Heaven!

That may be true but our health is OUR responsibility ultimately not the ins co. I was self insured for decades b/c I elected to only go to an Integrative Dr who doesn't take any ins. I have Hypothyroidism & developed an enlarged thyroid causing all these nodules in my throat. For the longest time doctors told me I had nothing wrong with me. Finally, My doctor sent me to an endocrinologist & l had an ultrasound done where they found several nodules in the throat. After, l had a biopsy & was told by my endocrinologist that I had no cancer . However, I wanted to have surgery to remove the nodules because it hurt to swallow anything and it was such a discomfort to me. On August 2, 2021, l had surgery & it turned out I actually had cancer!! They had to remove The nodules, cancer , & my Thyroid gland! It was a small portion of cancer so l didn’t need radiation therapy. But this just makes me wonder now how many people have been told that they didn’t have cancer, when they actually had it. Imagine how many people passed away because of biopsies not being accurate?? And to think I was going to back out of the surgery. So glad l didn’t . I am a thyroid cancer survivor 🙏

@destinygil5617: Underactive thyroid is the most common thyroid symptoms and frequently results in Goiter and other thyroid tumors often turning into cancer!!!! Thyroid disease is an epidemic! I'm hearing more and more about Goiters and other thyroid tumors. Underactive thyroid and massive stress also causes thyroid tumors.

Sometimes when I try to swallow it feels like something is poking into my throat, stopping the food from moving through.
I literally have to make myself throw up because I can't swallow.
I have hypothyroid, numbers are more or less within the standards now, but I have all the symptoms of hypothyroid.
I'm finally getting tested this month for hashimoto.

Lack of Hashimoto’s diagnosis for years caused me to feel guilty about being “lazy” due to my fatigue. I finally got a diagnosis this year because my TSH levels were going haywire and the docs could no longer ignore it on my blood work. Got a full thyroid panel, got a diagnosis, and have begun treatment with an endocrinologist. I was depressed for years because I thought my physical issues were my fault. Getting answers was key to helping my mental health.

Look up ME/CFS and PEM. Chronic fatigue (mild Mono), sleep problems (not waking up refreshed), and any exercise wiping you out for 3 days are the main symptoms.
50% of kids and 99.9% of adults carry at least one strain of EBV semi-dormantly, out of dozens.
A physical, chemical or emotional stress lowers the immune system and triggers ME/CFS.
It is a common co-infection to other diseases.
Surgery triggered it in me, but it took me years to figure out, since my normal blood tests were all Normal.
Western Medicine's Scientific Method doesnt work if EVERYBODY carries the same toxin excreting virus, and no two people have the exact same symptoms, since diet and toxin exposures differ.

I pushed & argued forbproper testing for 7 yrs & all I got was condescending words, made to feel like a hypochondriac & had more antidepressants pushed at me than I could shake a stick at. I finally went behind my primary provider's back & had a gynecologist friend order the entire thyroid panel for me. My TSH was in normal limits but my T4 was low & my T3 was virtually non-existent. I went back to my primary for one final visit, shoved my labs in his face, to which he responded, "Oh. I guess we better get you started on thyroid meds". My response? Don't bother....because you're fired! I went to a different physician recommended by my gynecologist friend & got started on Levothyroxine (T4) & Cytomel (T3). I broke down in tears right there in her office when she handed me those prescriptions because it was such a RELIEF to finally be believed...to finally have hope of feeling normal again.

Do your own research. Stay away from doctors who prescribe you hormon replacement. Fire them, but first make them feel how they really are: stupid. You only need to get the lab test every 3 months for hormone antibodies and TSH to monitor your progress. Put a cloth with warm cold pressed castor oil over night if is a visible lump around thyroid. Make sure you're STANDING UP when you visit your doctor and tell them you want help. There's something about being seated that they take advantage of you. I've found this to be the case more often than not.
I have Hashi's and the one thing I know is that the doctor should TREAT the SYMPTOMS not look at the numbers. What might be right for one person is NOT the same for another. You should be getting the dosage that makes you feel good again. Also, both myself and my husband have Hashi's and we CANNOT take the generic. Things got so much better after we got switched over to a brand instead. Ask your doctor to help you find the right one for you. It might take trial and error over time and also, if the doctor you currently have digs in their heels, FIND ANOTHER DOCTOR!!!

Yes I gained weight rapidly as well. I gained 36 pounds in 9 months suddenly. It continued to increase and my good for nothing pediatrician blamed it on bad eating. I would not recommend her to anyone unless their children are completely healthy with no health issues. It wasn’t until I got a new family doctor in 2018 at age 19 that I got a diagnosis of Hypothyroidism. The first thing she did was take a blood test when I mentioned my thyroid. Symptoms began in 2015 at age 16. Based on my old medical records I started having trouble with my weight when I was 11 but it didn’t increase rapidly like it did at 16. Even though I’m on medication I am still gaining weight and it’s very hard to lose it. I finally got a endocrinologist last year so I’m hoping it will get better. Weight gain is only part of it. I have chronic fatigue, I don’t sleep much at night but sleep during the day. I’ve been pretty much bed bound for the last year and it’s a chore to do essential things, which is also contributing to my weight gain. It’s awful, it’s also affected my ability to get a job. I’m currently not working because of it. I was losing hope until I saw this video. It’s really helped me.

So many doctors out there today just want to treat the symptoms, and keep the patient coming back again and again. They don't cure the patient because they would lose business, and funding from pharma. I don't know how in good conscience a doctor can do this. It's incredibly sad. Instead, tell you your thyroid is fine in a regular blood panel test....UGH! Let's label you with chronic fatigue, fibromyalgia....etc!!! Geesh - why have I even been going to regular physician?
So, at my insistance - he did - and I DO have Hashimoto's. I see a "Functional Medicine" physician this week who specializes in thyroid conditions. Maybe HE will be interested in helping me.

A couple weeks later I went back in and said the lump is bigger. He sent me for an ultrasound. Once the results were in, I was given a blood test and then a few days later put on 0.05mg of levothyroxine. I am slowly feeling better. I really appreciate your video. Dr. Berry...l could probably write a book about all the crazy I went through before I was finally diagnosed with Hashimotos. You hit on every point. Much like your wife, my Primary Care Physician totally overlooked all my symptoms...it wasn't until I went to a Prompt Care one Saturday evening with crazy heart palpitations, that I finally got an answer. The Doctor on duty gave gave me an EKG and said everything was normal; but I talked to her Nurse a little bit and told her more about the "Crazy Storm" that was going on in my body. The Nurse conveyed these details to the "on duty" Doc, who came back into me and said..."we don't normally do this - it should be done by your Primary Care Physician, by I'm gonna run a full Thyroid test on you." Two days later, my phone was ringing off the hook! They told me, "You are very sick, and you need to get to a doctor right away!!" They actually recommended me to a different doctor (since my first doctor had missed out on all the symptoms). My TSH was 146 and my TPO was 59. So I got on L-Thyroxine, and after only 1 month of 50/mg, I went back to my new doctor and he said, "how do you feel?" I just broke down and cried! I said, "I finally feel like a human again!" For so many years, I had grown accustomed to feeling more like a Rabid animal! I finally felt HUMAN again!" I cried like a baby!

I've been diagnosed with Hashimoto's since I was about 8 years old. My Mom had to fight and fight with doctors for years to get them to test my thyroid levels, because seeing hypothyroidism at my age was so uncommon, but all 4 of my grandparents have it, so my Mom knew what to look for and thinks I started exhibiting symptoms around age 5. It's so weird learning all of these things now that I am older. I don't really remember a time without it, so when people ask me if I feel a certain way, I don't really have a healthy past to compare my current feelings to. I have PCOS too, and have a diagnosis of bladder spasms from age 8/9 that I believe is actually interstitial cystitis. My whole life I have been unwell. It's hard enough for me to get out of bed a lot of days because of my mental health. Last year I decided to take charge of my health because I was so obese, and so I am now at 30lbs lost in 3 months with using Noom. It may not be eating smart according to my many illnesses, but it's the best I can do with where I am now.

My doctor actually asked me if I was "trying to be sick." I was so upset but also determined to get to the bottom of it, so I paid to have an ultrasound done at an independent lab. I did not tell the technician about any of my concerns. I just told him I was getting it done out of curiosity. I took the results back to my doctor and he then referred me to an endocrinologist. He never acknowledged that he was wrong, and I never went back to him. I honestly think that doctor had no idea what he was doing because the blood work he had done on me showed elevated TPO. The lab even had it highlighted to draw attention to it.

I been cold all my life, always tired, cleaned up my diet for the last 10 yrs, still have some form of eczema and still cold. Weight be up and down. I was like how the hell is this possible. As i dove deeper into cellular nutrition i finally went to see a pcp so they can check my blood. My dr said i was healthy and for the most part i am But i looked at my hand and showed her. No im not healthy, somethings wrong in my blood i believe. Eczema is a inflammation side effect, not a root issue. Stupid dr. Anyway, i bought a health self diagnosis book, and sure enough the issues i thought i had were confirmed and also confirmed in my blood work that she failed to go in depth about. I use the dr office now to make them run tests i think are necessary for my self diagnosis. Other than that, they can all shove it. I hate drs.

  • @dand579

Great video. Older life-long Hashimoto's patient here. The STTM website is great, but not a perfect recipe for individual Hashimoto's patients. My personal experience in a (long) nut shell: Food allergies are key. Something very simple no-one wants to talk about - If what you leave in the toilet doesn't look solid and healthy, then you aren't healthy, and it will be connected to your Hashimoto's. Gluten is Satan. A single french fry fried in oil that previously fried breaded things is enough to cause great harm that takes about 2 weeks to get over. Chickpeas are very safe and healthy for me. Rice is safe. Canola oil has caused no problems. Soybean oil, not so great. You may be different. Trial and error is frustrating and painful...
If you have Hashi's, you really should take a comprehensive food allergy test. They are expensive, but worth it. By avoiding all my allergy foods (Cashews were killing me, who knew?!) my gut health and ability to tolerate small amounts of gluten has increased. By tolerate, I mean to not see a huge increase in thyroid antibodies in a blood test, and to not feel like crap. No headaches, no joint pain, sleep well. "184 Food Allergy IgG" has been useful. If you can't get a food allergy test, then at the very least, avoid all gluten, especially beer, even if labeled gluten free. The processes to remove gluten from beer just make it harder to detect, but it's still there. Scotch, even though distilled, is not safe. Wine is not safe, the aging barrels are sealed with wheat paste.
A "Nima Gluten Sensor" has been a Godsend, except for anything with alcohol, unfortunately. After a year of using the Nima Sensor on everything, I now know what and where food is safe. Pulled Pork from Sam's Club, though labeled gluten free, is not. At restaurants and with food I'm not sure about but really want to eat, I take "GlutenEase" enzymes (from Amazon), which I carry with me everywhere in a small container on my keychain. Enzymes only help, but do not prevent all issues. Enzymes are good for an errant crouton on a salad and low-dose contamination, not a donut or slice of pizza!
Thyroid panels can be ordered with or without a doctor from "mymedlab" (5 by 5 thyroid) or "Ulta Lab Tests" (STTM 2.9), or others. Google is your friend. TPO and Anti-thyroid-AB are the big two Hashimoto's indicators. T3 & T4 should be in the middle of the normal range. If T3 & T4 are in the low end of normal and you have no energy, then investigate Naturally Desiccated Thyroid (NDT) with your doctor, and study the STTM website. Be very disciplined and consistent in your dosing, and get blood tests often, more often than a typical thyroid patient without Hashimotos - this is basically a slow-motion version of diabetes.
If you laps in your diet and your immune system rips your thyroid apart a bit more, your thyroid hormone levels will be all over the map until your immune system settles down. During this time, your adrenal hormones - cortisol and adrenaline, may also be all over the map, as your adrenal glands try to compensate. Then you'll experience abnormal sleep cycles, anxiety, depression.
It's amazing how much of an improvement in quality of life and health I've experienced after getting a handle on all this. If only a string of doctors for the last 20 years had been more than just pill-pushers :(

I have been diagnosed with Hashimoto’s about 3 years ago and I remember exactly going through the symptoms described in this video. Additionally to that though I had constant, severe pain around my thyroid area which was disturbing my concentration and slowly driving me insane. Some days I didn’t even have the energy to get out of bed and had to call in sick at work. My parents got super mad at me and called me a simulator and that “no one can be this tired all the time”. So finally I decided to see an Endocrinologist and guess what he didn’t make a whole thyroid panel check and instead sent me home saying that it was all in my head, especially since the thyroid “can’t hurt”. And he did so even after his assistant had done an ultrasound, stating that I had severe discoloration and size reduction in my thyroid. Defeated I went home and struggled with my symptoms for another few months before going to another doctor, who was my regular house doctor. He was the first one to check my whole thyroid panel. My anti body counts are so high that I count as a very severe case of Hashimotos. He put me on hormone substitutes and makes me go to a radiologist every 6 months to check. And oh yes do I feel better. Maybe not as well as I did way back in the day but definitely better

Then when symptoms got serious started to try and get medical help. 3 years of different doctor/specialists, countless tests; same answer. Normal levels, no problem. Ex thought I was a hypochondriac. Finally found a doctor who gave me the HT test. And of course that is what I had. Don’t understand why a Dr. who knows you have family history and a sibling who has the disorder wouldn’t run the test? They rather prescribe antidepressants and have you take a bunch of unnecessary tests. Why? Because that’s what makes them money.

I discovered I had a thyroid issue when I ended up in a mental health facility. They started me on medication there. My regular dr at the time refused to give me a referral to an endo he said "I can fix it myself". After doing some research about hypothyroidism, I learned about Hashimotos and asked my doc to do more through bloodwork. He snarked back at me "why? Why are you going to waste tax payers dollars when you aren't working on testing when it doesnt matter. Its treated the same anyways." I had recently left my job at the time due to mental health, I was working in a group home, but I needed to take care of myself for a while, and yes I was on Medicaid. He was very very judgmental about that. Allllways brought up about being off work and made me feel like Shit about it. I LOVED my job. It was not an easy choice. He ended up giving me the lab order anyways and my antibodies were astronomical. When I went in for the follow up appt, he was like its a good thing I sent you for blood work, you have incredible amount of antibodies. You must feel awful. That was probably the only visit I ever felt validated with him. Over the next few years, I would go back to him complaining of debilitating fatigue, mental health was in check, I wasnt depressed, like I WANTED to be productive but at the time, even just getting my kids off to school in the morning required a nap afterwards, and sometimes Id just fall asleep right in the driveway for like 30m bc I couldnt even bring myself into the house. The weird part is that when I take my medication regularly, and my levels are "normal" I am more fatigued than when I lapse on my medication and thats part of the reason I skip it sometimes. I shared with him about what I was experiencing, and he made it all about mental health, and when I tried to advocate that I wasnt depressed, but WAS getting hard on myself about not being able to get going during the day, like what happened to the go go go getter I was? Where did she go? He then lectured me about drugs, (Ive never struggled with addiction) and said "I am a doctor, I will always find out" I kept saying I dont do drugs! He pointed at my scars and said "then how did you get those?" Because you know, if a person has self harmed, they MUST be an addict appearantly... But I was growing angry because I didnt understand how the conversation turned into all that. By the end of it he started insinuating I was making it up about being so fatigued bc my levels were fine. Honestly, Ive lost a lot of faith in the medical community... I started doing my own research, I went gluten free- vegan and after a few months, it was night and day how I felt. My thyroid is still wonky, and I wish I could crack the code, and now I am learning about the autoimmune focus instead of purely thyroid focus... This whole process had been a roller coaster, but Im determine to figure out what helps me completely. I appreciate videos like this so much. It feels very isolating and crazy making when Drs dont believe you, or blame mental health instead just because Theres a history. Its insulting to my recovery.

I'm so glad I watched this! I've been suffering from symptoms of hypothyroidism for years and had to beg my doctors multiple times to finally do something about it and put me on synthroid. I feel no different despite being on medication for almost two years now and still experience the same and even some worsening symptoms. My family doctor said I'm looking too deep into things and just trying to find more things wrong with myself... and that I'm just facing these symptoms because of "covid related depression" because my TSH levels "look" normal.
I finally got a second opinion from my gynecologist who right away said that my symptoms are all reflective of inflammation in the body and are suggestive of an autoimmune issue. I've been doing my research for so long because I know physically and mentally I'm not where a normal 25 year old should be and always thought I might have hashimotos (I have a history of cancer, radiation, and recently hypothyroidism and all of the signs and symptoms of hashimotos). I have been balling my eyes out thinking about how I've been ignored for almost 10 years and not taken seriously despite my history, but also happy tears because someone has finally connected all the dots.
I have my appointment on April 14th, I'm praying that finally I'll be given the treatment I need and will feel like a normal human being again after suffering for almost 10 years. Wish me luck! 🙏🏽

I was so sick for five years - all I did was sleep and work, gained 60 pounds in one year while living on rice cakes and cottage cheese and hard boiled eggs, I was profoundly depressed, my hair was falling out in large amounts, my nails were brittle, my teeth eventually got brittle and cracked (I ended up having four molars pulled), my skin was flaky... the first doctor I went to sent me to a mental health facility where, via a paper and pencil test, they said I was bipolar.
Meanwhile I had a huge swelling on the front of my neck, which I later learned is called a goiter... it's blood and tissue from your body destroying your thyroid. But the doctors kept telling me I was testing "in normal range." One doctor said, "You just want me to give you pills so you can lose weight. You just need to push yourself away from the table. I probably eat less than you do," and then handed me something he'd printed from his computer. "What's this?" I asked. "A list of therapists in the area who deal with eating disorders," he said. I ran out of the office crying.
About two weeks later, I collapsed when I was at a greenhouse buying plants. My heart had stopped. Luckily, there were EMTs nearby who were doing some kind of training exercise. The revived me and took me to the hospital where they decided I wasn't having a heart attack -- and sent me home! Two days later, I saw a different doctor who took one look at me and said, "Your thyroid is enormous!" And she put me on Synthroid. In less than a week, I started to feel like a human being.
Fast forward 30-plus years and I have a swelling on the left side of my throat. We did an ultrasound and blood work, and I was examined by an endocrinologist and everyone is telling me it's not my thyroid, apparently it's a gland. It's been this way for more than two years! All my blood work is coming back "normal." Now my doctor is sending me to an ear, nose and throat specialist -- even though I asked to see an immunologist on the recommendation of the endocrinologist. Is it going to take me almost dying for someone to figure this out?
I had a heart attack and a quadruple bypass 16 months ago -- the last cardiologist I saw responded (without examining me, just talking to me) to my complaints of breathlessness and a heavy feeling on my chest with, "You strike me as an anxious person. Would you say you have problems with anxiety?" Basically, he treated me like I was making up stuff to get attention. I had the heart attack two weeks later. What the hell is wrong with these doctors???

I had to pay for everything out of pocket, but at least we found I had a severe iodine deficiency. An inexpensive iodine pill and a keto diet to calm inflammation was all I needed to get it working again quickly. This doctor is AMAZING. I wish I could have you as my PCP & Endocrinologist. I’ve seen sooo many doctors throughout the years for my thyroid and did way too many blood tests and according to them my thyroid was normal, but I was suffering with a lot of symptoms, such as; chest pains, neck pain and pressure around my neck and head, fatigue, dry skin, dry eyes, a little bit of weight gain & some anxiety. Finally I saw a different endocrinologist lately and based on my lab work he put me on Levothyroxine 25mcg, 3 times weekly & I feel so much better. I don’t have those symptoms anymore, but instead I have a lot of hair loss lol if it’s not one thing it’s another 😅 it’s ok I’ll take a hair loss over those symptoms. And before I forget, I eat gluten-free bread and no dairy in my diet. I also take Vit D once x week. Thanks to science, doctors and God for this medication 🙏🏻💙

My vitamin d levels were critically low. Most doctors know very little about thyroid problems. I had heart palpitations that took my blood pressure to 220 over 120 and the doctors still didn’t know what was wrong. I spent 20 years going over my symptoms and finally found sites like this that led me to talk to my doctors about different tests. Today you have to be proactive in researching your own symptoms. I've changed to organic foods, as much as possible, and I've added 3 supplements (2 months ago): iodine, selenium, and magnesium. My most recent blood work came back with TSH still slightly high (4.9), free T4 & free T3 in range, Anti-TPO dropped from 400 to 169, and thyroglobulin dropped from 3 to normal. My Endocrinologist believes that once you have Hashimoto's, you can't reverse it. I hope, I can prove him wrong.

You have to seek out/find a health professional whose interest is in getting to the root causes of these symptoms; who understands that it is not normal to have even one of these chronic symptoms. These doctors will order in depth lab tests and work with you in depth on an appropriate plan to help your body heal. I have finally found such a doctor -- a naturalpath who specializes in digestive and thyroid issues. I called naturalpathic doctors and asked which one in town was especially good with these my two issues. My insurance won't pay for it, I have to pay for it myself, but it is worth it to find yourself finally on the right path. You're where I was last year. I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism in 2005 or 2006 with a high TSH and low T4. My antibodies were never checked. I have been on synthroid since. Over this time, my dose kept needing to be increased periodically, I kept gaining weight despite attempt at dieting and exercises. I finally reached a point where suddenly my TSH was too low and my T4 was too high. Despite this I was still gaining weight and still had all the symptoms of hypothyroidism. My dose of synthroid was repeatedly decreased that was between 2019 and now. After I started doing my own research, sparked by the fact that I intuitively knew I should feel much better than I did, I ordered a home lab test kit for thyroid that included a qualitative TPO Ab. It came back with the expected high T4/lowTSH but now I was Ab positive. I sent these results to my PCP, and only next lab check with him, asked him to verify these results to include a quantitative value for the TPO Ab level. That Ab level was >600 IU/mL. At that point, I had also done a home lab test for food sensitivities which indicated that I had high moderate sensitivities to wheat, gluten, cod, pineapple and bananas, and 23 other mild sensitivities especially to whole eggs, cow's milk, including softer dairy products (strangely enough no sensitivity to harder aged cheeses, possible indicating a sensitivity to whey, but not casein????), all white meats, haddock, and lamb. I basically eliminated all of the gluten, soy, dairy (except the hard aged cheeses, which just cut down on), any meats that indicated positive sensitivities to, at that point (in April 2021) I also requested a referral for an Endocrinologist. At that time, I did not know about testing for Tg Ab. I, again, ordered a home lab for thyroid that included all thyroid function levels, TPO Ab, and TG Ab, and my TG Ab was also high. I had my doctor also verify these and they were indeed high. Even with the changes that I made nearly a year ago, my TPO is still > 600IU/mL and my TG is > 1.6IU/mL.
I totally understand why doctors might not want to ask questions or look further into problems that seemingly have a quick solution, but autoimmune disorders are no joke when they go undiagnosed for so long that systemic inflammation leads to muscle and joint dysfunctions, delayed orthopedic surgery recovery due to muscle spasms and tightness beyond what is normally expected, and poor activity tolerance due to HT induced myopathies. The only good thing that has come from my resultant elimination of food triggers is that I have lost 50 lbs since last April. I still have all of the symptoms r/t hypothyroid despite being back to a "normal" TSH and T4. I still have yet to obtain a reverse T3 or to be checked for Hypothalamic/Adrenergic Axis dysfunction (adrenal fatigue) as these remain controversial despite their potential value in treating Hashimoto's thyroiditis.

@@jennifervallot7003 I understand, functional medicine practitioners are usually all out of pocket and it's very expensive. I had to accept help from my parents to go see one because I was so sick, but just wanted you to know they really do know alot more then our Medical Drs when it comes to thyroid issues and hormones and they run tests to get to the root cause. I hope you are doing ok and just wanted to share this info with you. 😊

My doctors ignored my symptoms for 8 years, sending me for every test under the sun EXCEPT thyroid. It took me as far as sleep hallucinations, waking up choking at night choking, to finding a lump in my neck (which turned out to just be a severely swollen gland) and finally going to the ER, arguing with the nurse for 15 minutes just to get her to feel my neck and tell me I'm crazy to finally start getting some answers. Not many at this point. I still had one last appointment with my doctor and argued with her for 20 minutes before she forcefully gave up and begrudgingly ordered a CAT Scan. I later learned that those are harmful to the thyroid. When she called me back and told me to make an appointment with a thyroid doctor (who of course in less than 5 minutes diagnosed me with Hashi's) I asked her could that be why I feel a lump in my esophagus and she said yes, that could be. I left and never went back. That was 13 years ago. I now am unable to work full time and am in pain all day long. I barely have the energy to take care of myself let alone my family and am unable to diet and exercise to lose the 100 lbs I gained. I am at a loss with no hope in site.
