I'm on medication for low thyroid - been on it for quite a few years now - but I still have MANY of those symptoms. Every time my Dr. does my blood work to test my levels, though - she says it looks "just fine". 🤷‍♀️

I had Grave's disease and made it 18 years before doc pushed to kill my thyroid. And, I would rather deal with Graves symptoms than the hypo symptoms I've had for 6 years now. The levothyroxine did nothing so they had to put me on Synthroid, which costs way too much even with insurance.

My advice for anybody with thyroid issues is eliminate the carbs. Doesn't matter whether hypo or hyper, carbs hurt you. I went to what I called the caveman diet. The only vegetables that don't seem to upset my body are root veggies like onions, carrots, garlic, and potatoes (boiled or baked).

This was a reminder to my own situation with a low functioning thyroid. When I was 40, I suffered an attack which I thought was a severe sore throat and didn't follow up on it right away with a doctor. Over a year later I was still dealing with minor sore throat and ear issues and finally got it checked out. In the meantime the symptoms of low thyroid (feeling cold, achy, depression) also appeared but I failed to recognize them. Long story short, I got medical help and was put on thyroxin. In my mid forties I went to a nutritional consultant where I was advised to immediately remove processed foods, sugar, wheat and gluten rich grains and as much dairy from my diet as possible (excepting fermented products like yogurt). Have pretty much followed as closely as possible to this regimen although I do treat myself to ice cream or a piece of cake for special occasions. And here are the results -- my thyroid came back to more normal function so I could quit taking the thyroxin. Which proves to me that food can play a large role in our well-being. In my 70's now and my last blood test showed even higher thyroid function than before. I wish I could have had access to your excellent videos when I was younger, but thankfully you are helping many others now.

Hello Dr. Berry. I'm Rebecca Bailey. I've been carnivore for more than 3 years, and I've lost between 90-100 lbs so far, as of 12/2024. I've seen great benefits from my weight loss, but today I've been on Lugol's now for about 3-4 weeks, and have begun having an amazing bonus to the Lugol's which is I've always had thin fingernails, used to have lines in them, but amazingly my nails have gotten very hard, and the lines are gone. I give all the credit to you, and others touting Lugol's for thyroid. As time goes by I feel, and look better. I'm 70 years old, but most people think I'm 40. LOL. I have extreme problems losing weight since I started oral birth control in 1973 when I got married the first time. Before that when I was about 15 I easily lost 30 lbs before I started high school by eating half what I usually did. Easily kept it off til I started the oral birth control in 1973. I did starvation diets, til I discovered Carnivore, and dropped the SAD diet. God Bless you, and all you do. I'm engaged to be married once more on June 30, 2025 after the loss of my first husband in June of 2012. Losing almost 100 lbs brought my soon to be husband to me. We're getting married June 30, 2025. We greatly miss our late spouses, but will honor them by marrying on the same date we all four got married on the first time - June 30, 2025. There are a lot more coincidences, but we know God played matchmaker for us. We are beyond happy, and he's doing carnivore with me. I hope we are able to live to a ripe old age. God Bless.

After years of doctors telling me there is nothing wrong with me, to learn to “deal with the aches and pains”, not knowing why I get daily headaches and memory loss, or why I’m tired all the time, I’ve finally been diagnosed with an extremely under-active thyroid. How it went unnoticed for so long, I have no idea. But I’ve experienced so many of these symptoms. My new doctor kept telling me “you like a healthy person” & then noticed a goiter. I’m just happy I’m finally being treated so I can start to feel like myself again.

Wrt the uncommon symptoms, many mimic perimenopause. If you're 45 and have these symptoms, go see your gynecologist. I thought for years that my endocrinologist was undertreating me and once I realized it was perimenopause and got hrt, I feel like myself again. I apologized to my endocrinologist. I suffered needlessly for years. Actually thought I had early onset dementia.

I encourage people to go get a second opinion if they can. My mother was diagnosed with Hashimoto's hypothyroidism which is an autoimmune disease, after almost 5 years of misdiagnosis. They readily chalked it all up to her being obese. The reason being that her TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone) was within normal range. There are other tests though like T4 and T3 which is what the thyroid itself produces. Those were low but no one looked further because her basic TSH was fine. TSH is released by the pituitary gland, which meant she had a functioning pituitary gland but not a functioning thyroid.
There was also a test where they detected and measured antibodies that were attacking her thyroid.
So listen to your gut, and don't let them dust your symptoms under a rug.

I’ve watched this because I was curious. I’m hypothyroid and menopausal. ( premature) The hypothyroid symptoms I have now compared to before being properly diagnosed are way more subtile and takes me longer to realize I’m off. The muscle weakness, actually more like pain/soreness, body stiffness it sneaks up on you, I even have constipation, which I never had before, the extra face dryness it’s weird too, sometimes the heels get cracked, my legs itch so bad, and I do get swelling in my legs and face puffy/eyes, gain weight that creeps in quickly with no changes in eating habits. I take all the supplements in the world and iodine etc. My brain takes longer to put the symptoms together! Great video! As I am writing I’m going through one of these episodes where I have to increase my dose. I have a very narrow therapeutic index and that doesn’t help either. I can only tolerate one kind of desiccated thyroid and compounded. I’ve only experienced hyper symptoms once when I started mercury chelation, I’ve lowered my dose to 1/3 since that, and I feel it with Armour, my body seems to take it too fast and I can’t keep even with it. It’s great to have awareness of the many ways we all experience symptoms.

Amen brother. I use a western philosophy MD for my in-network internist but control my thyroid through a naturalist PA who really knows what blood lab work to order to interpret and monitor my hypothyroidism. She's the one that recognized my T3 and T4 responded independently to naturethroid and levothyroxine; i take both to get proper levels of T3, T4. She's amazing in how she reads the different blood lab indicators, translates to lay language and provides natural, logical health habits to keep it in balance--not simply "up the dose" or prescribe another pharmaceutical to mask various symptoms. She's not against pharma, just relies on it as a last measure. Dr Berry you are what the West needs in real healthcare. My PAs and your battles are convincing a blind, numb public conditioned to search for another pill to swallow without listening to to myriad side effects that will bring you back for another pill. I love video. I've been dealing with symptoms for awhile (2yrs+) and it did become my new normal. So sometimes I would tell my doctor only one thing was wrong without putting it all together. Up until recently that is. I have a lot of the uncommon symptoms. Abnormal EKGs, face swelling, hoarse voice and so much more. It all makes sense now!

One of my doctors were a little less bad. But after going to two other doctors, he was the only one that checked my thyroid. My TSH was low and my T4 Free was normal. My diagnosis was a normal thyroid. The sad thing about him and the other two doctors, they never said but lets try some more testing to see why you feel so bad. They all just ignored it and even after returning to each of them with the same symptoms none ever thought to do more testing. I am now on doctor number 4. He is treating me for arthritis but I still am not well. My dad had a piece of his thyroid removed but he doesn't remember why. My maternal grandmother passed away from thyroid cancer. Does thyroid problems run in the family? Thank you for all your great information. I thankful we have you. I will ask my new doctor to perform a full thyroid test. Take care!!!

Mine is caused because I live down river from the Hanford Nuclear plant! I spent all summer water skiing on the Columbia River! So I’m sure I drank gallons of that water! I do have a cyst in my thyroid, so I take 0.05 mg pill each morning! The reason it’s so weak, is because I started having panic attacks after I was taking the regular thyroid pill they start you out on! They were way too strong for me!
I’ve been on the pills for over 20 years now. I did just notice the ones I’m taking now are Not the natural thyroid! I have no idea how long I’ve been on this kind, but I will be contacting my Dr & getting this fixed ASAP!
Anyway, I do have a lot of these symptoms! I’m actually surprised! I will be asking my doc for the complete test, as well!
Thank you so much, Dr Barry!❤️

Awesome video. This was very informative. I have almost everything he named. I have been diagnosed since I was 20 years old and I am now 43. I do take Levothyroxine for my Hypothyroidism. It is very important to take the medication everyday. I learned this the hard way, I stopped taking my medication for about 2 months and one night I woke up having blurred vission, I felt Hot Tingling all over my body, I felt I could not breathe, I had palpitations, I thought i was going to die. My family called the ambulance and when they were examining me they thought I was on drugs because my eye pupils were wide and would not shrink under light, of course I was not doing any drugs this was just something else happening to my body. When I was examined at the emergency room my sugar levels were very high and my blood pressure was very elevated as well. They treated my sugar and my blood pressure but for some reason nothing was working. There were 4 doctors trying things to help me, when the blood test came back they saw that my Thyroids were out of wack. When they treated my thyroids everything else just calmed down. Let me tell you it was the worst night of my life and ever since I have not missed taking my Levothyroxine. I thought I would share that because some people don't think thyroid problems are not that serious.

The shortlist of symptoms my wife has that coincide with this list:
Breast tenderness, sweet cravings, eye spasms, perspiration issues (i.e. temp regulation), frequent infections, concentration, shortness of breath (unexplained), joint pain, muscle pain, poor appetite, low libido, low sodium in blood work, high LDL.
As a chiropractor, I don't order blood work though I can. I am at a point where I'm going to start ordering thyroid tests on patients who don't respond to care properly who haven't had a complete thyroid workup. Its borderline negligence that TSH is the standard of care. That's like going to the drive-thru, placing your order, but you have no guarantee that what you ordered is what you're going to get. Of course, most people assume that what they order in a fast-food drive-thru is actually food, but that's another story!!
Now if only I could get Armour Thyroid for patients...that's why we have smart docs like you to make sure we get the right meds when a patient needs them!!

Thanks Tim for this information. I just looked up keto and thyroid in women and it led to an article by Dr Westin Childs about this. I have the symptoms of keto damaging my thyroid now. My last free T4 and 3 are low and my TSH keeps going up. Apparently keto is doing damage to my thyroid. I had a feeling that maybe I shouldn't do keto anymore. I think maybe there isn't just one diet for everyone and maybe I should start eating some vegetables again. Not go crazy. Years ago I tried Atkins and by day 2 I couldn't get off the sofa - no energy. This was way before my thyroid diagnosis but I knew that was coming because of a strong family history.

Actually a couple other videos I watched did say that thyroid levels do actually decrease, but that it is normal because thyroid hormone is tied to insulin, so the thyroid hormone is simply needed less. Therefore a drop in thyroid is to be expected and normal and not a big concern. Kinda like concerns over big scary cholesterol are not really the big scare it once was.

I don't know about the US but many GP's in Canada are still mistaken in thinking if your tsh level is 5 mU/L you're borderline but require no treatment. One doc visit I was told my tsh was fine. It was 5 mU/L. Less than two months later it was 16 mU/L.
My endocrinologist says our tsh level should be no greater than 1 mU/L and no less than 1 mU/L.
Also, I've noticed a huge difference in my tsh number according to what I eat. When I eat clean foods, my tsh is way better.
In addition, doctors need to look at the reason the thyroid has run amuck. For me, I have SJOGRENS syndrome and lupus. Both affect my thyroid function....so make sure your doc checks that you are otherwise healthy and if not healthy, keep digging for answers.

I was diagnosed in very early childhood. Was on NDT, and doing well until my grandmother’s doctor changed my Rx to Synthroid. Was on that for 30 years and was miserable. Not ONE of my symptoms improved until I got back on NDT.

My hair fell badly, repeated infection of UTI, all-day fatique, dried-cracked skin, swollen eyes, however, ny heart rate is still sky high at 100+. Though, my doctor diagnosed after the blood test that I have it and been on medication for a long time now

I just went to my doctor and mentioned that I think I have a thyroid problem. I’m aware of many symptoms and asked for a blood test to confirm. My daughter and husband have thyroid issues that had unusual symptoms. I did the research and had to insist that they get tested. Sure enough, they both tested positive even though the doctor said their symptoms were not usual. It ended up that my husband has hypothyroidism and my daughter had Graves which required radiation and heart meds.
I had no problem but now I have very many of the symptoms you just mentioned. Waiting on an ultrasound and blood test in 2 days.

Thank you so much for your list of uncommon symptoms. I recognize some that I had no idea were related to a thyroid condition. I'm going to see what needs to be done to help my thyroid.

I started drinking dashi a few times a day...my hearing came back....I started drinking it thinking it might help regulate blood sugar, I didn't expect that and hair started growing back. Thought I was nuts till I read that it is recommended for thyroid issues. I always tested ok on the TSH. Arghhhh!

I had low thyroid after starting carnivore diet. I had to take supplements. my symptoms were having hard time swallowing. it got really bad for 1 week i couldnt sleep because i felt like I was choking constantly.I didnt have this problem before. I just had to make an appointment for a thyroid blood test. Im going sometime this week. I did have a lot of these symptoms to. but nothing was as bad as the choking sensation.

I experience (off and on) this choking sensation, too, but I'm not carnivore. SMH!

Dean Humphreys -- Maybe it's a hiatel hernia (I can't spell that properly). See if you have one. I do, and certain foods feel like they're stuck in my throat and I experience pain.

Wonderful, informative video! An underactive/low thyroid is commonly caused by an autoimmune disease called hashimotos. It's important that your Dr checks for antibodies also. The uncommon list of symptoms is endless. It's crazy that the little butterfly gland can cause you so much grief. It's awful and relentless.

I have been suffering from pounding headaches, a visible pulse in my neck, and just an overall unwell feeling. My doctor sent me for a thyroid ultrasound and blood work, the findings are that I have multiple nodules on my thyroid with one stating moderately suspicious. My TSH shows that it is low, 0.13 with a big L beside the report. I am to have a follow-up with an ENT on December 29th. Thank you for this video.

How are we to then find a doctor that has a clue as to what to do to help us when our test results come back ?
I think most Drs don’t know what try or change in our meds after seeing these test results...
please help us find informed Drs in our areas. Thank you

😅My doctor has been ignoring my requests for complete thyroid testing. Ive had the odd FT4, FT3, FSH from time to time which fluctuate at the lower scale and fsh which goes up and down. I have the following symptoms.
    Extreme tiredness after eating.
    Low blood sugar, hypoglycemia.
    Slow heart rate.
    High cholesterol.
    Verticle nail ridges.
Sudden snoring and occassionsl apnea (i think)
Sudden weight gain (having been very slim all my life ((till way past menopause)))
    Inability to eat much.
    Fat belly.
    Painful feet.
    Dry skin feet and hands.
    Tingling in feet.
Last two finger of each hand go numb while I sleep.
    Some days feeling exhausted.
    Feeling isolated.
    Extreme frustration and anger fluctuations.
Fluttering, trembling feeling deep in chest.
    Hair falling out.
    Dull hair.
    Sound like hypothyroidism??? 🤷🏼‍♀️
