  • Add these 7 thyroid superfoods to your diet to naturally support thyroid function. What is a thyroid superfood? Well, a superfood is just a food that has more nutrients per unit compared to other foods.
There's nothing magical about these superfoods except that they provide more of the nutrients that your thyroid needs compared to other choices.
This means that by changing up the foods you put into your body you can ensure that you are giving your thyroid the best shot it has to function at optimal levels.
Please note that these foods will not magically heal or fix your thyroid, though! But, all things being equal, it would be better to consume these foods because of the nutrients and benefits that they provide to your thyroid compared to others.
    7 Thyroid Superfoods include:
    #1. Blueberries
Blueberries are low in sugar and high in phytonutrients (plant compounds).
Antioxidants in the form of anthocyanin and polyphenols help fight free radicals in your cells and prevent cellular damage.
    1 cup of blueberries = 85 calories, 21 grams of carbs, 24% vitamin C, 36% vitamin K.
How much? ½ to 1 cup of blueberries each day, frozen or raw.
    #2. Seaweed
Seaweed is the best food source of iodine but the concentration can vary based on numerous factors.
    1 gram = 16 to 1984mcg of iodine.
    #3. Maca root
2 tablespoons = 91 calories, 20 grams of carbs, 4 grams protein, 1 gram fat, 2 grams dietary fiber, 133% DV vitamin C, 84% DV copper, 23% DV iron, 16% DV potassium, 16% DV B6, 11% DV manganese, 8% DV niacin, 7% DV of calcium, 6% DV of riboflavin.
Use 1-2 tablespoons each day in organic powder form in a morning smoothie.
    #4. Brazil nuts
Eating brazil nuts is the easiest way to get selenium into your diet aside from supplements.
1 brazil nut = 68 to 91mcg of selenium but concentration can vary by a lot so watch for signs of selenium toxicity.
    #5. Coconut oil
One of the best fats to cook with! Coconut oil provides your body with a pure source of energy.
How much? 1-2 tablespoons per day.
    #6. Garlic
One of the best nutrients available. Also adds a ton of flavor to foods.
If you don’t like the taste use 500 to 1500mg of garlic capsules per day.
#7. Mussels (can opt for other shellfish)
Mussels great source of protein jam-packed with thyroid-specific nutrients.
150g of mussels contain 18 grams of protein for 129 calories and almost 1 gram of omega 3 fatty acids.
Consume 1-3x per week for best results.

Yes,,,,,you refer to Hashimotos in your videos, but what about post-theraputic Graves disease (radioactive iodine). After years on levothyroxine, I am now losing a ton of hair. My doctor said my labs show an abnormal TSH, but my T4/T3 is normal. She doesn't want to do anything different right now (stress from losing my husband recently), but wants to do another lab to see if it is caused by stress or whether something has changed physically. Can you speak on Grave's disease and make some distinctions. Thank you.

Sorry for your personal loss stress issues.... Sleep & exercise help a lot... As does a thyroid supportive diet ...that you Can do without meds ... Be a good way to test the blood work results against your actual ones!

Dr Childs I’m concerned with the use of Maca Root as I don’t know the oxalate content of it. (I’ve very oxalate poisoned from a decade of high plant based diet) Can you let me know if you know what equivalent animal derived food would have the nutrients you are targeting in the maca root? Thanks!

I have ckd stage 2, and also lichen schlerosis as well as hashimotos. I take t4 and t3. Thyroid long ago atrophied. Does all of this advice apply to me, or do other conditions contraindicate it ?

If your Thyroid slowsdown do to heavy metals in the body. I heard that 3 to 5 Brazil nuts, I'm taking 5 raw a day for several months with no results, I'm to heavy to do the thyroid exercise, will the cup of Bluebrries, Maca Root, and Coconut in a smoothie every day work as fast as the thyroid exercise?

Can You say something about hypotyroidism and the reason for developing white spots on skin. And vitilgo .

    • @drwestinchilds
      @drwestinchilds  2 роки тому +1

Vitiligo is an autoimmune disease that tends to be associated with Hashimoto's (but not always) that causes depigmentation (white spots) on the skin.
