    Glad you like it. SWTOR is really a hidden gem in the MMO space. Been playing since beta test and launch so it's great to see new players get into it. For me the Sith Warrior class storyline is by far the best. Then the Sith Inquisitor and Imperial Agent stories are tied for second.

    • @gothxm
      @gothxm 9 місяців тому +3

      i disagree, the sith warrior is the most typical sith story. i love it but what you see is what you get. the imperial agent is the suprise you dont see coming. it was truly incredible especially because it doesnt have something as cool as a force user to lean on for a main character.

    • @M4ttNet
      @M4ttNet 9 місяців тому +7

      @@gothxm I can see that perspective. I agree with the premise but not your conclusion. For me the Sith Warrior story was so great because it's exactly a typical Sith story. You get to play through a nearly perfectly crafted master and apprentice power struggle with a really interesting Emperor involved twist as well. It's especially great if you've read the book Darth Revan setting up context for the whole Emperor's Wrath.
      The pacing is just so perfect for me too.
      With that said the Agent is probably my second favorite with the Sith Sorcerer being my third, though those two might be tied for 2nd for me. The Agent was pretty predictable to me though so maybe that's why it didn't impact me like it did you, then again it is my 2nd favorite so I like them both.

    Ah. SWTOR. So many good memories! This game is like OSRS to me. Even though I take breaks every now and then, something about it keeps me coming back for more. It also helps that I am a huge Star Wars nerd! :)
    So for the whole "Crew Skills" debacle that you had. They actually do kind of introduce it early on in your journey. So, after you finish your starting planet (i.e. Korriban in your case) Once you get to the Imperial Fleet station and you get off the elevator for the first time reaching the main floor, there should have been a terminal with some missions waiting for you, and in that terminal is a mission to go learn about said "Crew Skills". I will agree that its not really in your face about it and doesn't really stand out. So yeah, they kind of introduce them but not really...
    Either way at the end of the day, I am glad you were able to enjoy the game and hope you continue to have fun! Maybe I will see you around the Galaxy.

    • @hk1371
      @hk1371 11 місяців тому +15

      I suppose the issue is that its not really introduced in a natural way that new players would know about. Something like another cutscene when interacting with the ships steward would be a good way to do it as it would be natural for 2V or C4 to tell you about what else the ship offers or is also installed with that teaching module.

    Not sure if anyone has mentioned it, the bug of having to accept the eula everytime you boot the game is a steam launcher issue that can be solved by either switching to the client from the swtor website or grabbing the eula.settings file from that launcher (need to startup the launcher at least once for it to generate) and putting it in the main folder for the game in steam

      Imperial agents have the greatest range of storymaking decisions of any class. Every class story has meaningful choices, but nothing like what the agent can do.
      Don’t want to spoil, but at the end of each act agent has to make highly consequential decisions. Relatively speaking, the other classes are just along for the writers’ ride.

    One of the wins is that when you buy 30 days of subscription, you gain preferred status. Even when your subscription expires you get to keep every expansion you unlocked plus some subscription features for your account permanently. This game is extremely generous with its content.

    • @mustafaozturk2542
      @mustafaozturk2542 3 місяці тому +1

      Lemme correct your mistake, you will keep expansion unlocked if you play the content in that character. The character you created at the end of the subscription won't be able to play that expansion if you don't start it on that character particularly. So saying "You will keep every expansion unlocked" is wrong. (I tested myself and found out how subscription works, so don't give false hope to people who will think they have to have a subscription once and they will have the content unlocked for all of their characters.)

    I've been playing since 2019 and started subscribing because I had not been able to play due to my computer being unable to handle the game beforehand, even though I had briefly tried to. Since then I have amassed a massive amount of hours in the game. I actually have the game through Steam now, although I started with the regular SWTOR client...and I have never had the problem of dealing with the ToC screens every time I logged in. Since SWTOR became available through Steam, I have had 4,750 hours and have completed all 8 class stories (several of them quite a few times over). I tend to play for the story, doing Flashpoints solo on story mode. I have done some Operations, some group Flashpoints, quite a bit of PvP (although I still suck), and GSF (which is super hard, but still kinda fun if I'm in the mood to get my ass handed to me like a hat).
    I am kind of amazed you didn't see the crew skills earlier when you first went to Fleet. There is a little kiosk in the Crew Skill/Strongholds area that has a quest to learn a crew skill. You learn the crew skill you choose, then immediately interact with the trainer again. You won't be able to learn the level 500 crew skills unlock that takes you to level 700 (the crew skill cap), but you get XP for just interacting immediately. I do it for every new toon I am leveling when I first get to Fleet. Most of the time I get just Slicing as it is easy quick cash while questing. Although any and all of the gathering skills can earn you cash on the GTN by selling the materials. Look into videos by Swtorista about anything you want to learn more about. She is an invaluable resource.
    My favorite storylines:
    1. Jedi Knight (Light Side) - My main is a Concentration Sentinel (mirror of the Marauder) on Satele Shan
    2. Sith Inquisitor (Light or Dark) - My main on Star Forge is a Lightning Sorcerer, but now learning Madness Sorcerer spec. I also have a Lightning Sorc going through the KotFE expansion on Satele Shan presently. The voice of the male SI is Euan Morton, whose real-life son is Iain Armitage...young Sheldon Cooper on Young Sheldon. If you ever decide to play another SI as a female, there is a way to flirt with Talos Drelik that is good for a laugh! I won't say what my favorite romance is in the base game from all of the classes, but Ashara is almost bottom of the list. She's a great companion, especially if you set her to damage or tank, but otherwise a tad annoying.
    3. Bounty Hunter - At first I wouldn't say I liked it, but now I really like it. Dark or Light, I always make sure to go full-out Mandalorian!
    4. Sith Warrior (Light Side) - I am playing through the class again on two different toons one a full Light Side, the other a full Dark Side, to do the romance I have not done with one of the companions, which can be either a Dark Side or Light Side companion...I won't say more. There are two romancable companions for the SW.
    5. Imperial Agent (Light Side) - This is actually probably the strongest storyline with the most divergences of where you can take it. It's James Bond in Star Wars. My first playthrough was Dark Side and a Chiss (very Admiral Thrawn), but my favorite playthrough was a Human and Light Side.
    6. Republic Trooper (Light Side mainly) - I am a sucker for military stories, and this is a really good one, but a lot of people are not fond of it. If you've played Mass Effect, the female Trooper is the same voice as the Female Sheperd in ME, Jennifer Hale (who also voices Satele Shan and a few other small characters in SWTOR, including reprising Bastila Shan in the Jedi Consular story, from KOTOR). I had to do a playthrough of the Trooper as a FemShep cosplay...it was a lot of fun, but expensive in Space Barbie terms.
    7. Smuggler - I love this story, but you have to be in the right mood and frame of mind. Basically, there are A LOT of comedic opportunities with the Smuggler, and it is the most breezy storyline. But, like I said...you have to be in the mood. Some quests are just flat-out comedy. I love the Gunslinger spec, and other players like the Scoundrel spec (which I don't), which were the original ways to play the class. Oh, you do get a Wookie companion at one point, but he ain't the greatest at healing.
    8. Jedi Consular (Light Side) - I have yet to try this Dark Side, but this is the slowest-moving story. Lots of lore. The male JC is voiced by Nolan North aka Nathan Drake from Uncharted, but he is kinda boring as the character, the female-voiced SI is better. The story is a bit bland overall compared to the others. I don't hate it at all, it's just really slow.

      It wasn't even that, it was just the complaints of people not being good. They didn't gear up their companions. Didn't work on their influence. Couldn't plan out their builds. Then didn't try to learn any of this or improve. Even back in the day, when companions were unique, we had Heroic 2/2+/4, and the like, you could solo most heroics and FPs. You could easily duo (I got my then gf into Star Wars because she wanted to play an MMO together).
      The constant complaining, and silence of those rising to the challenge, is what homogenized the game. Case in point, could kill companions in beta. Then people killed companions and were like "omg I don't get another?! Whaddya mean I don't have a healer because I killed my healer?!" "Wait, these good guys can tell I've fallen to the Dark side and don't treat me like I'm light side?! That's so unfair!!!"

      @@Theinen84 They changed the game a lot when I first started to play SWTOR the sentinel class would become an offer around level 30. You had an option to change your fighting style of your own and it allowed you to switch between classes. They removed that feature from the game and made it simpler.
      Also, the majority of the player base in SWTOR is interested in the stories rather than group content such as dungeon raids.

    I really wish they'd release a "SWTOR Classic", how the game was before they dumbed the game down. Before the bigger expansions, getting to max level would take the average person at least 1 - 3 months. It was a journey. You were very engaged with the crafting system because that's what it was built for, the journey.
    You had to do the class missions AND the planet story missions. The game had you drink everything in. It was amazing. Combat was actually challenging. Your companion wasn't able to do all the fighting for you. You had to plan accordingly.
    The game felt so cheap and lost a lot of meaning after they overhauled it. Getting your own space ship was a HUGE deal. You had to use it. No teleporting all over the place to check off your quests. You actually experienced the world of Star Wars, not log in to do a bunch of task management chore checklist questlog.
    It was such a great game before ... I think it was the expansion after the Revan expansion that really tore the game apart. Roles actually mattered in group content. Not "everyone is a damage dealer now, you don't have to know how to play your role anymore."
    I know there's role-based content, but it used to be more prevalent. Everyone was participating in it.
    I understand they had to make changes, I guess. I'm still very sour about it. Now you can roll a character and get to max level in a week or less (unless they fixed that). You barely have a chance to feel invested in your character by the time you're a grandmaster Jedi / Sith / Soldier whatever. The rags-to-riches feeling was packed with struggles, time, great meaningful hardships that left you feeling like you've gone through something with your avatar. Now it's reduced to cliff notes.
    Ugh. /rant
    Maybe I'll give the game a go. It's been like 4 years since I logged in, when I finally gave up hope that they'd fix the over-dumbing they did. I know I am probably in a minority, I see lots of people praise the game now. Sucks to be in the niche corner of people who enjoyed the slower, paced, journey that had you actually engaging with the mechanics. The fact that people playing never even bother with the crafting system as they level is just sad. The core of the game it was built around is gone, replaced with something more transactional in nature.

    In case you haven't yet solved the issue of the EULA acceptance on every startup, (16:46) this can be fixed by installing the launcher from the official website, logging into it, then copying the "eula.settings" file from the new game's root directory (default = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Electronic Arts\BioWare\Star Wars - The Old Republic") to your Steam version. (default = "C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\Star Wars - The Old Republic") This seems to be a Steam specific issue. You don't need to let the launcher finish downloading either, as soon as you're logged in, the file is made.

    For th enew folks wondering how to work around the leveling slowdown at 20. Open your map. Go to map filters and turn on Exploration Missions. Suddenly you will start seeing all of the hundreds of side quests that are default hidden for some reason. A subscriber does not actually need to do those as they level just fine with just the class and planet missions. But they really help f2p, Don't be afraid of leveling too fast. Everything autoscales. So if you hit 80 halfway through the planets, it doesn't matter.

It is arguably the BEST class story in the game... and I frickin' HATE spy game b.s. THAT is how good it is, that even somebody who hates that stuff absolutely loves the story.

Hiding the gigantic nameplate over your head will make a huge difference right off the bat, but I'd also take out a lot of the extraneous combat "flytext" as well. Its rare that you need to see that Khem Val is healing for 2067 health every second in combat, you won't miss stuff like that when you disable it.

    As I have played this game since the beginning, I sometimes watch these to understand what hurdles new players go through, as I seriously *don't* remember a thing. 12 years? Bloody hell, I feel so old now. Another thing is, the game is vastly different than it was all those years ago, so, there's that.
    Honestly, Inquisitor might be my one of my favourite stories. Also Sith Warrior and Imperial Agent - and you are bound to hear that IA is the *BEST* story in the game, and I would not disagree with that statement, as it is quite amazing.
    Pubside stories are... there. For Jedi Knight, you gotta basically do homework, seeing as it is basically KOTOR 3, and reading the Revan book fills up a lot of gaps. Also makes the otherwise utterly boring story engaging.
    My advice on playing pubside - play it Dark. It's a lot more fun and you don't end up like a goody two shoes preacher most of the time.

      @17mindgate For me the best story is Sith Inquisitor, I played Imperial agent little bit, it didnt grab me, and i never try it gain. Its doesnt spark any interest. Some say its the best story, i cant comment of that because i didnt play the main story. Probably will never play. For me personally SWTOR is abot the force, not about happy trigger gunner. Far from reality also is that a gunner can kill Sith or a Jedi 1v1 "wow really ? did creators watch movies or read books ?." For me that is the only downfall. Making Star Wars and turn it to Counter-Strike.
      That is idiotic.

      #1: I agree with you that the Sith Inquisitor storyline was very good.
      #2: Understandable. Everyone has their opinion on the matter, so go with what works for you.
      #3: In the writer's defense... it is canon (or at least it was prior to the Disney takeover) that regular bullets (a.k.a. "slugs"... I'm not kidding) can actually beat a lightsaber... it is just a largely blaster centric galaxy, so they are rarely seen outside of the "boondocks" planets. Furthermore, there are types of armor and melee weapons that can withstand lightsabers and force power. In addition, it has been proven on multiple occasions that "experience trumps everything" and skill and planning beats power on many occasions. Not attempting to offset your grievances, just attempting to make them somewhat ...bearable.
      #4: I have never played Counterstrike, so I can't speak to that one, but I know enough about the game to understand your point.
      #5: Sorry so wordy.

Utilize your legacy storage by purchasing the cheapest stronghold when u pick up the mission from holo dude on fleet. Store your credits. I'm glad you had a good experience trying the game and continue to enjoy finishing up your character story and seeing how alt stories run some interesting parallels to them. Hopefully You'll find helpful guildmates .etc to explain some of the mechanics, I will point out that at launch the game actually had a slower intro experience with voiced NPC quests explaining things like class differences and quests to make you look at the crafting skills, but they got ripped out in an attempt to streamline the new player experience. While it may be faster now, I don't really favor "streamlining" by just removing or nerfing content.
    Inquisiotr was aso the class that got me in love with the game, I originally made a bounty hunter and intended the Inq just to be my alt for when friends were online to co-op with, but the story ended up sucking me in and the inq became my main instead, really enjoyed roleplaying the rags to riches emancipated slave to sith story it had going on.

    One thing I struggle with is the character progression. I remember at early levels I was one-shotting about everything. Of course mobs at the start are easy to get the player acquainted with combat, but I miss the feeling of getting stronger as I level up due to the level sync holding me back while enemies still get stronger. I think the level sync is great during leveling and story progression, but when you finish and are supposed to be a powerful warrior in your story, is it right that a random bandit or small animal on a starter planet still kills you with ease...?

    I've been an on- and off again player since launch. Most issues you've spoken about, not having noticed crew skills in particular, are issues that have arisen now in the later days of the MMO as they increased the speed and ease of leveling. Used to be that getting to level 10 and being able to go on your faction fleet was a big deal. It was where you decided which of the two advanced classes you'd get and also you were incentivized to pick up crew skills.
    Then, unless I'm completely mistaken, you HAD to complete a flashpoint with a minimum of 1 extra player. Empty party slots could only be filled by companions or players. If you didn't do the flashpoint you were locked out from the first planet after the starting one, which meant that you were softlocked from progressing your character and story until you finished that first flashpoint.
    This was also during a time where companions could only fill their pre-programmed combat role. Devs didn't make your favorite companion a healer? Sorry mate, it's never going to heal you. Every individual companion also needed to be equipped with their own gear, or they'd be useless.

    I still love playing through stories I've already completed. I was surprised when in a re play through I recognized the voice of one of my favorite audio book narrators in multiple cut scenes.

    I joined at launch and played it every day for several years. It's a fun game with a lot of cinematic content that ads great immersion to all the storylines. I enjoyed it so much I had every character class for republic and empire and was in 2 guilds because it's worth it to play on both sides. Unfortunately I received a lifetime ban for things I never did and they deleted my account on top of it. They wanted me to pay the "new" rates and give them a copy of my drivers license. That wasn't going to happen so after 5 days by account wasn't retrievable and my days with the game were over. Even though there are many bugs in the game I highly recommend it, I had a ton of fun and made many lifelong friends in the game I still chat with.

    I quit playing the game a few years ago, but I sank thousands of hours into SWTOR. I stopped playing mainly because it was feeling like more and more of a grind at the endgame level. I simply just didn't have the time anymore. Overall, I absolutely loved every minute of it!

    About point 2, in THE BAD.
    Best played with a friend where you both interact in each other stories, and all players involved, can contribute to them. Best is a Duo, but a trio is fun too, but can be done with a max crew of 4. Progressing with a friend is super fun, and changes the game in a big way.

    I agree with your overall assessment of the game. I started playing SWTOR at launch and over time, took breaks of varying lengths to focus upon other games. I keep coming back to this one! This time around, I finished all of the class story lines, and I must concur that the finest of them all is the Imperial Agent. My advice? Save that one for last. You won't regret it!

    This game was a dream MMO when it first came out. Me and a few friends had a wonderful experience with cool guild, doing the first few raids and pvping, etc. Every world was alive and full of players too. I can't remember our exact reasons for quitting, but it was such an enjoyable experience at the time. I've gone back a few times since and I think it's a great solo experience for the various stories but definitely lost its MMO luster.

    This is my chill game. You can play it as an mmorpg and yet not interact with anyone if you like, and from time to time, also have others beat the enemy with you. Just chilling. No obligations and play the game at your own speed.

    Played Swtor a lot a couple of years ago. I wish i could forget it all and start this game fresh. When I buy a new PC that can run Swtor, I plan to create a new account and start anew, separately from my old Legacy. To experience all these discoveries and achievements again.

    I’ve been looking for an mmo to play since I’m fairly new to the genre in general and your thorough video made me take the leap on this game. I appreciate it because I like to get a general sense of what a game is about so I usually research games in advance and this video just popped up in my recommendations. Great video 10/10

    I loved swtor at launch but got bored with rather repetitive endgame content at the time. Friend got into it recently and I decided to give it a go over the holidays. This video brought back many good memories and got me smiling a lot. Hope we all enjoy it for many years to come. Cheers !
