Yes, absolutely. George wrote these songs. He grew as a songwriter but more importantly, as a person. Beautiful stuff. He was an amazingly talented guy. And people who knew him (family, friends, colleagues, etc,) loved him as a kind, generous and spiritual person. The real deal!
Okay you got me. I’m subscribing. John Lennon and Paul McCartney didn't want to record Harrison's music except when they needed more songs to finish the album. That's how the love song - Something (In The Way She Moves) was recorded written by Harrison, released by The Beatles and became a massive hit, still considered today as one of the most beautiful love songs ever written. Harrison by many people is considered their favorite musician from the Beatles.
Actually, the Beatles song is just called "Something". George was inspired by the earlier James Taylor song titled "Something (In The Way She Moves)", who was on Apple Records at the time.
There wasn't enough room on an album for John and Paul, never mind George towards the end of the Beatles. George was great, but way behind John and Paul for sheer volume of great songs. He matched them twice on Abbey Road and that's about it. Same in their solo careers, take all the greatest 15 songs from each after the break up, you'll see what I mean.
@Kieop NOT so much with the Beatles. They were so successful they ran the show by 1965-66.They got what they wanted when they wanted it.Pretty powerful position to be in.
George Harrison also formed a group ,The Traveling Wilburys in 1988, 5 of the biggest singer/ songwriters George Harrison, Jeff Lynne of ELO, Tom Petty, Roy Orbison, & Bob Dylan , they recorded 2 albums. "Handle with care" RIP George Harrison, Roy & Tom Petty. LEGENDS , GREATNESS🤟
"Is that a slide"? We see you listening and getting it. You two gentleman have quickly become my favorite music reactors. Beautiful watching you guys discover the music of my youth. Magical times.
George Harrison's songs reflect so much compassion for humanity. I just love this man and artist. Also check out "Bangladesh", "While My Guitar Gently Weeps", "Isn't it a Pity". Thanks so much guys for posting this song!🍂
This was, by far, the best triple album ever released. George had so much great music saved up from not being able to get it all out with the Beatles that only a few months after the break up, he had three albums of great material, and put it all out at once.
the uniqueness of this song is that he took Hindu/Krishna spiritual chant and set it to a standard Gospel chord progression. Even though the concepts were foreign to a western audience, the song became number 1. Pretty amazing. Yes, George wrote almost all his own material. And he had 1 or 2 songs on almost every Beatles album - and many absolutely great ones. All Things Must Pass is an incredibly deep album. You should check out as much of this album as you can.
All the Beatles had stand out solo careers; George was shing star in the rock world. There are many good choices for him - you can't go wrong. Love this song, great choice as always.
George had volumes of songs that he had written when he was in the Beatles. George was an amazing player and loved playing slide guitar. He was heavily involved in Indian culture and music. Hari Krishna!
They do. But as usual, they pick and choose what to sing. It’s a shame because it’s such a beautiful song and was written as an inclusive way to praise
George became a devout believer in Hare Krishna. He wrote and recorded this and many other songs proclaiming his faith and his belief in seeking a better life here on Earth. Check out Give Me Love (Give Me Peace on Earth). It compliments this song quite nicely. :u)
I think this is why beatles only lasted for 10 years. For all the hype, hysteria and accomplishments, each member had their own unique vision and sound. Im glad they all were able to explore that.
6:25: "It's hitting the same chord patterns and the same cadences." Are you thinking of Edwin Hawkins Singers' "Oh Happy Day"? That was the inspiration for George's song.
Said it before. George played some with Delaney and Bonnie near the end of the Beatles. So did Eric Clapton, Dave Mason and eventually Duane Allman. The musicians in Delaney and Bonnie were also Derek's Dominos and played on this album. Bobby Whitlock on keys, Jim Gordon on Drums, Carl Radle on Bass, Bobby Keys on Sax and Jim Price on Trumpet. Eric Clapton and Dave Mason also played on this great triple album.
You also had a lot of Joe cockers musicians for mad dogs and Englishmen come out of Delaney and Bonnie. Such a great incubator for talent. They made everyone that played with them better musicians.
Haven't heard this in a good minute, I always forget what a cool song it is, especially the guitar work. Sweet choice for a Friday morning (pun intended) - peace and love ☮
The album that is from (All Things Must Pass) is to this very day my favorite post Beatles release. Including anything by McCartney. And Paul has put out some great post Beatles albums.
Harrison was sued by those who had the rights to the Chiffons song He’s So Fine for copyright issues. They won. It’s interesting to play both songs and hear the similarities. I don’t think George realized it and had no problem with the decision. He’s the best Beatle
He had so many great songs stashed from his Beatle years, the producer Phil Spector was amazed when he showed him the songs. They decided to do the All Things Must Pass album to use some of them. George brought in Ringo, Eric Clapton, Peter Frampton and other musician friends to make the album. George was the spiritual one in the band, Paul was the love song pop writer, John the deep thinking politician, and Ringo the happy go lucky one.
He wrote most if not all of these songs when he was still on the Beatles. A couple songs were written by other people. He wrote several great Beatle songs too.
Yes, this is George's writing. He usually got one or two songs onto a Beatles record, but in the later Beatle years he got a few more as his writing improved substantially. Here he chants Hare Krishna and Hare Hare and other Hindu phrases. George was highly spiritual and was a uniter of people in faith and had no difficulty bridging any such gaps. The production on this song and the album All Things Must Pass was by the late Phil Spector, of "Wall of Sound" notoriety, producer of so much 1960's pop.
Harrison began writing “My Sweet Lord” in December 1969, when he, along with Billy Preston and Eric Clapton were in Copenhagen, Denmark playing with Delaney & Bonnie’s band. It was in the middle of a productive and spiritual period that saw George producing Preston’s “That’s the Way God Planned It” and the “Hare Krishna” mantra of London’s Radha Krishna Temple, as well as writing songs with a spiritual theme for his own planned solo record.
George wrote his own music and lyrics. He also wrote some of the best of the Beatles. See "Something," "Here Comes the Sun," "While My Guitar Gently Weeps," among many others. You should check out the entire "Concert for Bangladesh."
Happy Birthday, Baby George. 25/02/1943 The quiet, dark and mysterious Beatle. Or was he? At one of The Beatles' first recording sessions with George Martin, they were asked by George Martin " Is there anything you don't like?" and quick as a flash George Harrison said "Well for one thing I don't like your tie!"
The Beatles were influenced and partook in Indian spirituality. George was singing Hare (ha-ray) which means praise, and he gave praise to Hindu gods, gurus and beliefs. Hare Krishna, Hare Rama, Vishnu etc.
Produced by the BEATLES producer. George was allowed a song or two per album by the BEATLES - love his WHILE MY GUITAR GENTLY WEEPS on the BEATLES WHITE ALBUM.
The "George songs" were always a highlight when I was young going through my mother's old Beatles records - "Something," "Here Comes the Son," and "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" are just a few examples. And any old clips of them live, his harmonizing is integral to the whole vibe. And when they started despite being barely 15, he was the most musically talented technically, as far as a proper guitar player. It is just part of being a Beatles fan to always root for George! In addition to the songs he did closer to the break-up, he came with some great 80's tunes like "I Got My Mind Set on You" and "When we Were Fab" then was essentially in the lead spot for the super group the Travelling Willberrys (i.e. "Handle with Care," "End of the Line," etc)and they had a great album with a few unforgettable tunes. His post-humous 3 part bio done on Showtime like 10+ years ago is a MUST WATCH, especially as it seems you are both really digging his music. Love to see ya'll giving love to George!
Billy Preston and George were friends, he brought Billy into the studio sessions of Let It Be and then asked Billy how to write a gospel tune, that is why it sounds a lot like Billy Preston's music. Also, he gave it to Billy to record before he released it on All Things Must Pass.
George Harrison was a devote of Eastern Spirituality and honored Jesus, Krishna and others. In this song, they sing the Guru Mantra, which pays homage to all of one's spiritual teachers.
For “subconscious plagiarism.” What a joke. Regardless, the whole tone of My Sweet Lord is light years away from He’s So Fine. He was attempting to write a song along the lines of “Oh Happy Day.”
He wound up paying the writers of "She's So Fine" for copyright infringement. He never learned to read music - he had transcribers - so he was limited to what was in his head
For a real beautiful rendition of this song take a listen at the concert tribute to George Harrison. Billy Preston plays keys and does the lead vocals on this while the other great musicians on stage pick up the background vocals. Talk about taking you to church. As you may know, Billy Preston played keyboards on a lot of their songs.
You are RIGHT!!! All the members of The Beautiful were influenced by Black music and George on this song did a Folk version of Gospel music with this song with a twist of his own religious believe which was Hinduism which the Lord of Life is Vishnu.
As most of you know Billy Preston was called "the 5th Beatle" if you haven't seen the dedication to George Harrison look for Billy doing "My Sweet Lord" with Eric Clapton, George's son Dhani, Jeff Lynne to name a few...Billy Kills it with an over the top joyous performance both vocally & on the keyboards! Made George smile from up above I'm sure. Love your reactions guy's, you really listen to every note.
awainting on you all, the art of dying, id have you anytime, wah wah, and my personal favorite from the all things must pass album is run of the mill absolute BANGER
George was involved in Eastern Mysticism, and Hinduism from his days as a Beatle. He was raised in a Christian family, but was always searching, as you hear in the lyrics of this song, where he say's (to Christ) "I really want to know you Lord, but it takes so long." Race car driver Emerson Fittipaldi, and longtime best friend Eric Clapton, are both Christians, and Clapton had been counseling George and telling him that Christ said there is only one way. "No man comes to the father except through me." When George was dying in the hospital with lung cancer, I guess everything got clear for him, and he and Eric Clapton prayed the sinner's prayer on his death bed. George admitted, that deep in his heart all of these years, he knew Christ was the truth. What a wonderful story. I saw Eric Clapton on a video telling this story and it made him cry. Thanks guys
George Harrison does some great vocals. He also wrote "Wile My Guitar Gently Weeps" though Eric Classic played a solo in it. You may want to check out some Traveling Wilbury's videos. It's a group made up of George Harrison and some primo artists. They got together just to have fun making music.
Yep, George wrote ALL of this. Pete Hamm from Bad Finger playing along with George on the acoustic..Check out "Baby Blue" from Bad Finger! AND, George got sued over this song, oops! Had to pay 10 Mill I think..? Supposedly sounded too close to "He's so Fine" which I still don't get..?? Love that song too though, The Shirelles I think.
You should listen to the remake on the 30th anniversary edition. The music is much crisper, especially his slide guitar part, but his voice was pretty much destroyed from the throat cancer that would eventually take his life. George wrote most of the songs on the album. The opener was co-written by Bob Dylan, and i think there might have been a cover on the 2nd disc. George got sued over this song for copyright infringement for the song "He's so fine" which ate up a lot of his time and energy for a few years.
At first i heard this song on the radio station I bought the single vinyl. And when I saw the film in the cinema I was really blown away. After that the LP "Concert for Bangla Desh" came out and I bought it too. At this time it was a journey. Best wishes @all from hamburg (germany)
Not sure if you react to live performances but please take a look at the Concert for George that took place after his death and listen to the performance of ‘Something’ which is supremely good. The whole concert’s worth spending time on. Love your approach to reacting, no padding no talking over everything but just pure enthusiasm and clarity.
i was just a little girl, riding in the back seat of the family station wagon mon at the wheel, when I first heard this song...I remember it so well, where we were, etc...i thought it was so beautiful.
It wasn't until this album that I heard his unusual slide guitar style, which used more major notes than the usual blues based slide guitar style of most rock players. He wrote most of his lyrics, and here shows his ongoing interest in forms of Hinduism, introduced to him by his sitar teacher Ravi Shankar. He went from being into Transcendental Meditation to being involved in the Hare Krishna movement as reflected in the chant like background vocals.
The background vocals at the end are part of a Vedic chant. He got really into spirituality after his visit to India and began incorporating transcendental meditation and Vedic chants and mantras into his everyday life and music. Eventually going on to co-produce the album "Chants of India" with Ravi Shankar.
I love George's vocal on this song. So much yearning and freedom of his soul, going up to Heaven. He was born to write and sing this song. This is a gift from George to humanity!
Georges slide playing was like no other. He sounded more Eastern in his slide than Blues or Country. Like a good Beatle....there he goes creating something completely unique! Amazing band and amazing watching them keep growing and growing while everyone else followed behind in not only music and art but culture itself. Lucky they were all basically decent people because the world would have followed them off a cliff.😉😎

He’s got two of my top five 🍻Then he just kept doing it 😎
George had a long court case, when the writers of “ He’s so fine “ by the Chiffons claimed My sweet Lord was too close to their song, he settled up.
For “subconscious plagiarism.” What a joke. Regardless, the whole tone of My Sweet Lord is light years away from He’s So Fine. He was attempting to write a song along the lines of “Oh Happy Day.”
@@hmm3484 the chord progressions the exact same moods allot dif glad he settled .. glad we got both
@@hmm3484 Now I’m hearing a mash up with MSL and OHD in my head. 🤍
He didn't settle in the US, he lost. He settled in the UK after the the US loss.
He wound up paying the writers of "She's So Fine" for copyright infringement. He never learned to read music - he had transcribers - so he was limited to what was in his head
George was the best Beatle, rest his soul.....
George was the Spiritual Beatle……studied under great Indian Buddhist’s….very new age.
You may be thinking of "Oh Happy Day" by the Edwin Hawkins Singers -- which inspired this song.
John was the peace freak. George was the spiritual freak. Paul was the control freak🤭
George was a Hare Krshna buddhist. George's first solo was 3 albums in a box. It's awesome and he wrote all of it.
Hare Krishna hare rama
Meaning glory to lord Krishna and glory Lord rama
As an adult I remember the Beatles as a child
George also did one or two of the background harmony vocals. The sonics, and the vibe of the record was produced by my old friend Phil Spector.
awainting on you all, the art of dying, id have you anytime, wah wah, and my personal favorite from the all things must pass album is run of the mill absolute BANGER
They got together just to have fun making
music.
Thanks!
George always sang backup in the beattles. He always had different take on music. But it was always good. He was into different types of religion
george was friends with Ravi Shankar and amazing indian artist that even played at woodstock, that you have to see , you wont forget that perfomance
George has always been my favorite Beatle.....
Listen to his song..run of the mill..shines
George is my favorite slide guitar player His style was so original and unique and almost sounds like a Hawaiian slide.
"Stuck inside a cloud" SLid e Guitar👌
Thanks for playing that you made me cry every time I hear Rest in Peace George Harrison 1969's being my first Hari Krishna they were all over California from the north to the South California
