My favourite coffee: amzn.to/3YHftWW
Great, but how much is a decent coffee machine?
I like the AeroPress which is about the same price as one bulk load of his favourite coffee. Once the paper filters are used up, you can buy a metal washable filter.
Tissues?Hmm 🤔 does "Catch it, BIN it, kill it" ring any bells? Remind me never to shake your hand
@@BarbarapapeI got a coffee machine and 6 boxes of pods £40.
It’s called a dish cloth, use it wash it, use it again. Separate ones obviously for bathrooms. That’s what my mum and nan used and I’m still here. 😃
Yep Pink for the sink Blue for the Loo
I buy most of my clothes from thrift shops and do my own tailoring. If clothes last long enough to exist in a second hand store, they're often better quality than cheap, brand new tat in the high street. Also, changing out the buttons, belt or hemline gives it a unique look that's tailored to your own style.
I also buy a couple of good outer garments and get the rest from cheaper stores and thrift stores.
Yep I do the same...
I buy cleaning products, huge kitchen rolls, clingfilm, etc. from a shop that sells to restaurants and hotels. I save a lot. I stopped buying a daily coffee at a filling station and made my own in a thermos cup. Probably save a couple of hundred a year.
My dad used a cut-throat razor for most of his life. The spin off from this was he could sharpen any kitchen knife to an amazing sharpness.
My dear Dad did too! When he turned 80 we got him an electric shaver - he just laughed & said he'd rather have a new drill for carpentry!
Beautiful 'thinkers.' Lovely 'reality' men. x 🙋🏻♀️
My father used a cutthroat too. The sharpening strop was hung from the towel rail and was always used as a warning to me when I did something stupid. NOTE: He never had to use it. As a result,I am a safety-razor man! :)
I like the way you avoided telling people to give up smoking and/or drinking, by far the biggest waste of money for a lot of people!
And cannabis etc
Yes, considering they are wasteful and unhealthy.
Because alcohol is generally ( unless your an alcoholic) a discretionary spend.
The pleasure say that I may get from a 600 pound bottle of wine may be wasted on you but well spent for me.
A 50k heli-skiing holiday to Banff may be money well spent to you and a waste to me.
I agree with all except tissues! I cannot bear to wash snotty hankies! I use kitchen roll as it’s more robust! 😊
Sooooo,, 🤔. You have an issue with the tissues huh?
Me too. The idea of walking around with body fluid infused hankies is a no no! Catch it, kill it, bin it, in this regard!
Just bung those snotty tissues in a saucepan with a very little detergent and boil them for 20 minutes. Old fashioned , very effective.
@@judithstanding2474then make pasta sauce in sauce pan. That snot doesn't disintegrate
@roselee4445 You should have a dedicated saucepan for boiling laundry. Perhaps an old one. It’s not rocket science.
best way i saved money is either by cancelling or haggling all outgoings for tv/broadband/mobile, cancelled all charity donations. used a comparison site for electric and gas switching all insurance of house, life and car. saved around £130 a month and my life is not any less comfortable than what it was previously
This is so true. We have filters on our taps and don’t buy water. I invested in a coffee machine and don’t buy coffee when I’m out. We walk all the time don’t do gym. I make cleaning products bi carb Soda , vinegar, and lavender.
Good advice, I’ve said it about coffee for ages. I see people spending a small fortune on two or three coffee a day. I use a good sized flask cup with a good quality coffee. Stays hot for ages and saves me loads.
It take cheap flask wine in a bottle for a different sort of work experience!
One rule we follow STRICTLY is: Always make a Grocery List of ALL the items you need and take that list with you when going Grocery shopping. Be certain to check off your items as you put them in your cart before checking out at the payment registers. Do NOT deviate from your list. It's amazing how much extra you will spend at any given store when you don't STRICTLY stay to your list.
I actually stopped taking my husband grocery shopping because he is an absolute sod for impulse buying.
I take my list and stick to it pretty rigidly. I only deviate when I see something that I know we need, but wasn't on the list.
But, don’t make a list till after you’ve planned your menus for the week. Otherwise it’s back to the store for extras, and therein the danger lies!!
Brilliant tip.had to do this in the past ,saved the day .also..batch cook and freeze.
@@tonkysue207
With you all the way on this - for 50yrs x🙋🏻♀️
i agree with you on the vegtables Daniel, i recently bought a 12.5kg bag of "wonky potatoes" from Morrisons unwashed in a paer sack for a princely sum of £2.99 , so far i have thrown 1 away that had a squishy spot on it, absoulute bargain a quick wash off, chop them up and cook them skins on, no wastage, beat paying the same price @ the same supermarket for 2.5kg of washed spuds in a plastic bag, fun fact Albert Bartlett potatoes HQ Airdrie in Scotland handles 1 in 5 potatoes(at least ) consumed in the UK :)
So true about the coffee’s … I added up what I was spending on Costa & Starbucks etc per month - it was £250!!! I love coffees out so asked for vouchers for Christmas & birthday & enjoy them all the more for having them less often! Good advice here! 🙏👍
Good God. Admittedly I live in Ecuador, but I spend less than 200 pounds per month on food and drink total including some restaurant meals and fast food.
Me too! And to make it even worse I didn’t enjoy half the take away coffee I was buying because it was often burnt or too bitter!😂😂😂
Luckily I detest both Starbucks and Costa, so that's one area that I don't have an issue.
For me its mobile phones people pay £70 a month for a contract with a phone. My Fold 3 went for repair recently, I realised the old S9 I had was perfectly adequate.
I used to buy my phones outright not any more buy a few gens back they work perfectly. They look the same in a case anyway. Sold my Fold3 when it came back.
Thank you for your great tips. I have just made 2 types of dressing, used up some dry bread making croutons for salad, and as tissues are used copiously in my home of one, I decided to give my hankies an airing! I am also starting to look at pre planning meals and shopping much less regularly. Exercise - walk to the shop rather than drive, use the patio balustrade as a push up utility, actually get down on the floor and do some planking etc. I'm in my late 60's, I do love my weekly exercise class ($10). but I could be a lot more nimble than I am and you have spurred me on. Thank you.
👏 Good on Ya. Muscle memory never leaves you. Bit of reminding muscle memory it's always been loved - is full on fab. 👍
I quit smoking. I can now have an extra 2 weeks holiday, in any country I like. I only use gyms that dont have stupid contracts.
My phone and note book works perfectly good, even though they are over five years old.
I cook from scratch including my spices.
Edit, oh and I have never used a coffee shop.
I cancelled Netflix and bought a house and am eating like a king on 30p a day. Probably not the same planet.
Take the advice that applies to you or move on.
How many dollars is 30p? we live on 100 dollars per week 2 of us and that's luxury
@@GloriaLasace He was joking. 30P is 30 pense ( pennies).
@@GloriaLasaceabout 20 cents
If you pay for a service and the service provider doesn't deliver you are entitled to a full or partial refund, is there any court action we could take against the government? Because we pay for the NHS and their not providing the service that we are paying for especially when they strike.
Was going to like that comment until you mentioned the strikes. Look at why they are striking, it’s not just pay!
@@nicolae6173 I don't disagree with the strikes, I just want to know if there is any legal action to be taken against the government for not providing a service we are paying for
This is bleeding obvious to me. This is the reason Fire Fighters on £32,000 a year are using food banks
Next tip -- go shopping with a list, plan your meals, freeze leftovers, and therefore stop wasting food at home. Also, make use of garage sales and thrift shops to buy used goods rather than new. If buying retail, try to shop at the end of the season when prices are at their lowest.
British people generally don't have freezers (or have tiny freezers) FYI.
Speak for yourself Leoren. That has never been my experience, we grew up with a full sized (under counter) freezer and all my friends did too. In fact lots had chest freezers as well.
In the last year, I have got into bulk/batch cooking and freezing meals, also I have invested in a vacuum sealing machine and now make batches of things like veg stock and homemade tomato sauce then freeze them in portion sizes and vacuum seal them for longevity. I hated the amount of food wastage I was causing.
Thanks for the sharing, I already have most of these under my belt too (no pun intended). Would be great to hear more about these in the future.
I for one do like coffee although rarely get a freshly ground one - this being more of a "treat". £5 will get me a jar of dried coffee and last me over a month, usually 2. This I can then even take to work in a flask and if it gets cold, it's then too late in the day to really consume caffeine anyway. Better still if your work place provides coffee, make use of it!
Love this and actually do most of them, having used towelling instead of paper. However as a single pensioner the one thing I disagree with is prepackaged venerable, here in nz vegetables are throu the roof, a Cali can cost 7-8 dollars so one prepackaged pack reduces waist and cost. Also don’t forget frozen - for many things they are just as good as fresh
Agree. I find that frozen broccoli, cauliflower and mushrooms far cheaper than fresh. Plus being a single pensioner, every penny counts. Frozen is less wasteful too
I don’t have a gym membership but I do have a set of stairs. My wife loves going to the gym and says it’s the discipline of going but I’ll run up and down the stairs 40/50 times while she picks out her fancy gym clothes
My big money saving tips are: dont buy an electric car, dont buy heat pumps, ditch the TV licence, ditch gym membership, shop at lidl/aldi, buy android phones rather than iphones and keep for 5 years.
Definitely no electric cars. Use gas to cook and heat
Pre-cut veggies and fruits are great for people with arthritis, chronic illness, or disability though 🤷🏻♀️ but yeah I’ve noticed the price difference.
Hm.. that raise the question whether there should be discounts to registered disabled?
You could check to see if you have Olio in your area? Near me there's frequently prepared veg etc. for free (if you can collect them). There are certainly many more expenses that others don't consider for disabled people who want independence, as they're different for everyone. 😏
@blackbeltsecrets Being disabled is very expensive, very. Modified equipment, cabs, etc.
Thank you for the advice, you are spot on
I get good coffee as a self-care treat. There is an Italian deli near me that roasts their own. Sure, it's more expensive than supermarket but tastes far better and I'm supporting a local family business.
I get my coffee free from Waitrose. I just take my own reusable cup, buy a banana for about 10p and I have a free latte. Saved me hundreds of pounds a year. I have the same thoughts on gym membership myself. Buy a good pair of trainers and get out there running, jogging, or, more suitable for me, a good 5-10 mile walk. Thanks for the video.
I'll get well hench... running
Forgot to add that you need a MyWaitrose card which is obtained free online.
Greatest video! I prepare my own vegetables (I sometimes can get fresh veggies from farmers for free and then I preserve them). I purchase whole beef tenderloin and cut my own steaks. I buy all of my foods as whole as possible and then break them down. I ride my bicycle as much as possible to the market and only use my vehicle when taking longer trips.
Soda Crystals (£2) and Citric Acid (~£2) available from Asda or B&Q. Amazing cleaning products for ovens, taps, kettles, tiles etc.
No offensive additional chemicals.
I have started using dishcloths again after years of using rubbish sponges and/or kitchen towel.
I have stopped buying a lot of pre-made food, like Daniel says things like dressings and marinades. Not only are they ridiculously expensive, they also have a lot of additives in them to make them 'shelf stable', additionally we are also contributing to the single use problem, even if it is a glass bottle, it still needs to be recycled.
There are plenty of great recipes available online for sauces and marinades and a lot are not hard to make.
My gym memberhip was about £260 this year. I can't do it all at home as my main exercise is aquarobics which spares my arthritic knees a lot of stress. Sadly I can't afford the money or space for a home swimming pool so I'm not about to give up the gym.
One for the pot. I paid through the nose for a qualified plumber to install a vanity unit, this week. After he left I noticed the face cloth and hand towel had been used, so I put them in the wash. After the wash was finished when I went to hang them to dry I found there was sealing stuff stuck all over both of the items and had to throw them in the bin. There was toilet paper in the loo as well as a bucket of builders cleaning cloths right there, so that plumber had destroyed my items when it was completely unnecessary. Some jobs need disposable cleaning stuff. My bathroom items are destroyed.
Ahhh, there's always one. Sorry you met the mucky him....
... how's the plumbing and vanity unit build holding up.
"free access to the floor" made me laugh out loud!!
Depending on clutter
All highly sensible and excellent reminders! Useful! And I love your work. To thank you, and your accomplished wife, here is my easy-peasy go to basic salad dressing, suitable for pretty much most salads: in a 1:1:1 ratio, combine a good mayonnaise (kudos if you make your own) with soured cream OR crème fraîche AND a bit of Greek-style plain yogurt. That's it. That's all it takes. Salt, pepper, sure, a squeeze of lemon (or orange, that also works, if you are out of lemons). Care to add some herbs? Cilantro (coriander), chives, dill, mint... all optional. Garlic? If you like, but not too much. But you also don't need anything else at all - except the salad ingredients - because this creamy refreshment has just the right level of zing & pizzazz to make any salad go down a treat! With or without croutons, toasts, bruschettas, toppings, anything else... Takes 1 minute to make, keeps for a week or so in the fridge, goes well with just about anything. Love your work, keep on keeping on!
Brilliant video.thank you! Positivity peace and love 💛
I totaly agree with it.
I have stock piled loads of stuff when it was cheap. I now replace items as i use them.
Which is good it does not cost so much that way.
I used by a lot of non perishable goods from a wholesale warehouse store, you would have to buy in bulk, but usually most things were a great deal cheaper. Not been able to find any outlets near where I am now. Are these outlets still around?
Makro used to be the UK based bulk buy place, I only remember from my childhood some 25 years ago though. Our family moved to Aldi/Lidl for cheap shopping at some point when Tesco and Asda became worse propositions for value.
Tis does not work in Lincolnshire, there is that much chlorine in the water it always smells like a swimming pool.
Great video thank you
Hi. Great content. Could I ask for the link to the coffee you use? 😊👍
My bad! ALways forget - here it is: amzn.to/3YHftWW
I enjoyed this.. But I took it to another level.. I took my receipt and rounded every thing I bought to the nearest 1.00.. And added it up and put into a savings I started for this.. 2 months later. I have $ 767.00 now.. Wow your talk put me on ..how. Can I find more..thanks over a over again
Great tips! Thank you!
A note on coffee beans, there's the expensive commodity coffee brands where the difference in price rarely reflects a proportionate difference in quality, and there's the specialty coffee beans which are in a league of their own both in terms of quality and price (£12 for 250g is on the lower end of the range). Both are still cheaper than a Costa or Starbucks or indeed even a cuppa from Greggs
It is all very well not getting chopped vegetables, marinades or cleaners and doing DIY but what if you are a wife working full-time (as does your husband) and you have 4 kids? You may not have the time to do the ‘Amish’thing because you are exhausted on the couch!
Lol! You're assuming I can afford to buy these items in the first place! 😆🤣
Hey, mate, have a heart for those that aren't in the same league as you profess to be in by this snarky remark. if you are so out of this conversation because you are not having any issues, don't even bother to reply. It makes you look like an donkey's bottom.
And another point, I am not scrimping and saving because I have to, I am doing fine. I am however interested in the welfare of others that need to watch their outflow of money. All of the points made are to assist those that may be struggling in these economic times, and there are many. Do you really think your comment above would in any way make them feel good about themselves and how they can manage? Yes lots of laughs indeed, Mr Arrogance.
OMG! I am so sorry. Please ignore anything I have previously said. I have just come in from a walk and I realised that maybe I had read your post totally wrong, which is certainly the case. I sincerely apologise. I read the lol, and assumed you were being facetious, which is a reflection on me. I then, through my own misguided lens, transformed the word can into can't. I apologise for not only the mistake I made, my assumptions and my blindness in reading what you had written, but for my totally unfounded judgement of you.
I do not know your circumstances or situation, but I do wish you well in whatever endeavours you undertake.
I am very embarrassed by what I have said.
Thanks for the tips, love your channel.
I agree with the exercise point. I work out everyday with a UA-cam channel called Improved Health. Jules the instructor is great
Only coffee we have when out is whetherspoons refills. Once a month.
You are absolutely correct. I have been doing things like this my entire life--I was raised to not waste.
👍 yup. Good on ya.
[since 1953] 👍
I never buy coffee out, don't gym,I need paper towel for my cat-he will only let me dry him with kitchen towel.all veg is loose from greengrocer, coffee is nescafee gold blend-1 jar at £5.50 lasts a month
Wow it is nice to know that greengrocers still exist.. not seen one for years
Sadly I don't have a greengrocer anywhere near me. However we do have a pop up market each Saturday in a local pub car park which has a fruit & veg stall on it.
Luckily for me, my stoopid cat is happy to be dried off with either a tea towel or towel when he thinks that he can dash between the rain drops. 🐈
Use your own bottle for water, add a sprig of mint or a couple of slices of cucumber if your not keen on tap water. Remember bought waters are full of different kinds of salts.👍🇬🇧
The cost of all items have increased, some have doubled in price.
I work in a supermarket, and everyday one of us is tasked with updating the prices.
What bugs me is that what we call the basics that we buy everyday or week have increased the most.
Buying ready made sandwiches is a massive waste of money, but even if you make your own, the
price of bread / rolls, maragarine/butter and something to fill them with is no longer a much cheaper
option.
Every penny you can save helps, and when you are only paid the minimum wage you have little option
but find ways to save money.
Use one slice of bread instead of 2.
@@roselee4445 That way it will cost less and loose some weight!
Top video again Barrister ! I avoid all the above except my daily coffee !
I remember my Grandmother used Men's hankies, she used snuff and sorry I just could not bear to give up my tissues, although you could use toilet tissue, I drink Tap water, as a woman don't need to shave, my husband takes his coffee with him from home, Have a skipping rope a treadmill a Yoga mat I Have a refurbished I phone and a refurbished I pad all are very good condition. Grow most my own vegies, living in Australia we are lucky enough to have great weather for growing vegies, I just planted Asparagus today Green tea for me, really great tips and I so agree with you, maybe the Tissues I could go without, but our Tissues here in Oz are only $1 a box of 100
My women legs get shaved
In America, Starbucks always tastes burnt. I buy from a local roaster - 1 kilo for $14. I do most of these things already. I also try to shop locally , as I live in a small town. Don't buy clothes as I am pretty sure I have enough until I die. I did just consign to the rag bag a 42 yearold sweatshirt that I couldn't even justify wearing for gardening.
Great tips, also many far better for the environment and none of them worse, much less plastic used, or any single use items generally is wasteful. I think we should also replace toilet paper with bidet’s or bidet attachments like some other countries, far more hygienic😊
Good points
Everyone thinks that I'm a hoarder but you can't find decent jars for miscellaneous items to put away I prefer glass over plastic. And I craft sometimes and the jars are excellent in keeping the beads organized and I also recycle my med bottle's same thing the one's in the store are expensive and I have them right now.
A bean to cup machine and a decent milk frother pays for itself (compared to daily visits to coffee shops) within months!
Thanks Mr. Secrets
You buy a bottle of a dressing or any other ingredient, because some celebrity chef used it on television. You use the item once or maybe twice then they sit in a cupboard or the fridge - dead money- How much of what is in the pantry or the fridge is used on a daily, weekly or even monthly basis? Maybe 20 to 30 percent. Then thrown out once past use by date.
The same applies to clothes and transient fashion; make up and grooming products.
Toilet paper but I can’t work out how to use the 3 seashells
you scrape off the shit with the first one...
I don't like coffee and don't have a gym membership, looking good for my finances so far!
The latte factor superb!
Razors,.... I had a wtf? moment years ago. I just gave up on the ones that make Tiger Woods appear in your bathroom (yeah, it was that long ago they were still using him) and bought an old fashioned double edged safety razor, brush, and soap dish. You can resharpen the blades if you have to, but they are far cheaper anyway. I still get a good shave, and I don't have a complicated face, requiring a razor with better suspension than my car.
I’m not sure what his point is about disposable razors but the brand you buy, makes a huge difference.
I’ve had electric razors, expensive face contour razors etc… Now I buy a bag of 20 Wilkinson Sword disposable razors, for around 4 pounds that will last me over 12 months.
This works out at considerably less than 3.60 a month, which is incredibly cheap.
You cannot do this with any other disposable razor I know of. If I use Gillette disposables I’ll get through a bag in 6 weeks.
A good tip, is to have a very expensive, large bushy badger’s brush for lather. A good one with a bone handle will cost at least 30 quid or more, but will last you decades or a lifetime and you never need to buy shaving foam. ( Never buy a small one, get the largest, bushiest one you can find - don’t apply this advice to your women).
Paper is more sanitary. Won't be using cloth rags.
I'm never giving up tissues. My grandfather used a handkerchief and my poor grandmother had to wash them 🤢
I grow most of my veg, and never buy out of season foods, I cycle a lot and if out on my own, take my own coffee and homemade cakes, saves a fortune on coffee stops, only use cafes if on a group ride but others no. I do a lot of wild camping and most of the water I use comes from cemeteries, just run tap for a few minutes before filling up water bottles
Ummmmm cemetery water. Decomp anyone
I buy the twelve pack of 500ml bottles of water from Lidl. They cost me about £1.50, so about 15p each. I find them a lot easier and find I drink more water than keep going to the tap
As for the gym, since COVID and now working from home, I use my exercise bike a lot more and got myself a treadmill and rowing machine. While there was an upfront cost, I'm not paying for the gym and I have the ease of access and can use them anytime I want
Agree, brought a treadmill and am walking 1 hour at a time on it, plus doing some weights. Feeling good.
Lidl has increased the price of a two pack of kitchen towels by 36p.
Vinegar is bottled
The Romans had no loo roll, sponge in vinegar on a stick was one substitute. Some things aren't worth saving on.
Community sponge on stick? Corncob.? Sears roebuck
Coffee - I only drink Starbucks Sumatra. It’s low acid and is the only kind that doesn’t irritate my tummy. We buy whole beans and grind just enough each morning.
I never regretted buying a proper "safety razor". Plastic ones never quite did it.
Razors, save thousands by buying a safety razor such as a Muhle R89. 100 blades costs me £10. Each blade lasts 2 weeks. Stay well clear of anything branded Gillette or Wilkinson Sword.
Save even more by not shaving. Simple.
Thanks for the advice I now only use the same towel to wipe my arse and dry my hands.
😆
Guests likely enjoy the community rag. Then blow nose after butt wipe
I often make my own cleaning products. They work well and are not full of chemicals that you then breathe in! 😁👍🇬🇧
All excellent ideas, but will not save me a penny because I do them alI already. I am not sure about using washable toilet paper.
Gagging.... remember days of no pampers
Thrift!
1p mobile have some really cheap Sim deals.
A safety razor may cost more upfront, but the blades are very cheap. Or a straight razor, no blade costs but that has safety concerns
Save even more - grow a beard.
Make it do
Wear it out.
Use it up or
Go without.
Most stuff falls into oneof the above categories
I have to pay £30 a month for the gym as I go swimming as this is the only exercise I can do
(Catering grade if possible) citric acid can be used to descale kettles etc. Citric acid is non-toxic (found in citrus fruit and every cell in our bodies).
Just use vinegar, it’s cheap as chips and non toxic.
For goodness sake tissues are essential for hygiene, I can remember the days of washing snotty hankies. No more.
Not happening in my house.
All the other suggestions don't apply to me thankfully.
I try not to waste money like most of us.
I'm not using washable poo wipes. No siree

Not sure why I'd want to spend anything on a coffee you have to put loads of milk on so it doesn't turn your face inside out. That's how Starbucks et al operate. I use them, mind, but that's when I want a milky coffee.
If you've got a yard to mow, get a robot mower. You won't be paying for gas anymore.

Not sure I agree on tissues, surely you're just spending money washing snotty rags instead?
Stop using washing powder and switch to soap nuts instead.
Moist of these things are for people tha tare time poor. I'm not dicking about chopping tons of carrots and making sauces. I have a business to run and a life to lead. I'll buy the stuff that doesnt suck my time!
