    Two tips for when you Go shopping, 1, Always Eat before you leave, you spend a lot more than necessary when you shop hungry, 2, when you are done and before heading to the checkout, move to the side and go through the trolley/ basket and remove the wanted rather than needed items.

      I have found I buy less (since covid) by putting my order online and having them bring it to my car.
      The app reminds me of the regular items I purchased and i have less impulse buying. I only buy cleaning and grocery items
      Otherwise, we have a savings in January. We decide what needs to be bought and look for deals throughout the year.
      There is a miscellaneous budget for unexpected things.
      Planning and not being afraid to be frugal pays off.

    I think the problem the 'young uns' have (fogey here) is that they don't recognise they are spending with that contactless payment. Physically seeing the money by using cash reminds you that you are spending actual money. Using cash is my No. 1 tip.

      @ggnoree6684 Рік тому +1

      i think that can be true. But keep in mind that may contradict the point in the vid of tracking your money. As with cash it is likely harder to be able to track all of your credits and debits compared to card payments.
      So for me cash spending has the opposite effect. as i dont keep track of the money in my wallet, coming in or going out of it. i easily forget where i spent it (especially on a night out) so this makes it harder to analyse after if it was worth spending. whereas on card payments i am more conscious as i would be able to view it on my banking app and have constant reminders of my balance going down when i spend

      @@stellaallbright4750 Using cash is using common sense, normal for us fogeys but apparently absent in Gen Z. Card usage is to enable businesses and other more disreputable organisations, DWP being one, to monitor your spending. Cash prevents that. Using cards all your purchases and geographic locations are on view. Using a phone to pay is an extra level of idiocy... like shopping in the nude. Cash is like wearing clothes, your privacy is assured.

    I’m going to see my son and sister soon, traveling from other side of world to them. Before I’d go shopping for new stuff but this time I’ve cleared all my clothes out and looked at what I already have. I was surprised at how many clothes I’d forgotten about. So I’m rearranging and just adding a few items to coordinate all 😃saved a fortune. Plus i packed up a few bags and gave them to other people. The gratitude was too much made me very humbled.

    Generally good advice, but some are in no position to help themselves out of the hole they may be in. My debt saga started when I was the only family member able to pay for my mother’s funeral, in 1991, but had to go into debt for this.
    So my First piece of advice from my own perspective, avoid debt if at all possible! Once in it, it will continue to trip you up, 27 yrs, as next was my Dads, then debts accrued on joint accounts by my now ex wife, but as the working ex spouse, I was chased. It continued until I received a nice legacy. Using that to “speculate to accumulate” (newish car that WASN’T a money pit) and clearing all my debts, I am comfortable. Not rich, but comfortable.

    In my late forties, after a divorce, I had enough money to pay for a very small property in London. mortgage free, and a wreck to do up in France on my own. Although it was tempting to get a mortgage to do the property up, I didn't. I did as much as I could, always paying cash that I saved in advance, for the artisans. Then at retirement, I rented the London property and finished the French one where I live. It took a longer time to achieve, but I could sleep nights as I was self employed.

    I recommend everyone should learn and understand the ''rule of 72''. basically whatever the interest rate is, on both savings and borrowings, divide it into 72, the answer is how long, in years, your savings or debts will take to double. ie. 12% will mean your debts or savings will double every 6 years. There are other factors, tax allowances, repayments etc which will alter the answer but the mathematical rule will stay true.

      @@lisejacquelinerigault2575My mother was a miser, too. She was a widow with three little kids; I was the oldest. So I believed her when she said we couldn't afford to buy me new shoes for three years when I was in grade school, so I wore the same shoes from 3rd grade until 6th grade even though my feet grew a whole size every year. However, she bought a brand new car with cash every three years, and paid off the house she bought after my dad died in three years. Yet she was too cheap to buy us decent clothes or Christmas presents. So I can't stand cheap people, either. I have no patience for them.

    Preached, I feel, by someone who doesn't really live in the real world. Wonderful information in theory, but sitting down, compiling your budget and setting out your spreadsheet (note the implication that everyone will know how to do this) when you are struggling to make ends meet, will never be a family priority. They are probably too busy working a second job. I do wish the wealthy wouldn't preach to the battlers, and in such a condescending manner. This is keeping your poor, says he, sitting in some fancy swanky car that would probably be worth a deposit on a house.

    • @blackbeltsecrets
      @blackbeltsecrets  Рік тому +1

      How do you think I bought the car? By having all of our finances in/out on a spreadsheet. It is precisely because people don't prioritise the spreadsheet and budget that they remain poor. I had nothing when I started over 25 years ago.

    • @argeebargee
      @argeebargee Рік тому +1

      @@blackbeltsecrets Good for you for getting out there and acquiring all those qualifications in spite, as you point out, your parents lesser abilities. But you clearly had the wherewithal to commence your journey.
      Many years ago when I lived in Eton Wick, one winter afternoon I was walking down the high street in Slough when I came across a bunch of primary school kids beating the hell out of another one. By the time I reached them and the mob fled, the boy was lying on the ground bleeding from several cuts. Was that you? No I thought not. I managed to get him to Boots where they dressed his wounds whilst waiting for the police. When asked about how to contact his parents, he refused to talk. Eventually he whimpered that his dad was in jail and his mum at work. In my opinion, this child would need nothing short of a miracle to get where you are. The family's "neatly compiled on a spreadsheet budget" would more likely consist of a shopping list scribbled on the back of an overdue bill where only the absolute essentials were ticked off on pay day. Fags the exception of course. And the medicinal tipple. These are the people who really need help, yet will rarely find a way out of their circumstances. I seem to remember you saying at 16 you were doing work in chambers? For the kids I mentioned, they had more chance of finding themselves in juvenile detention at that age, and possibly reoffending because life is better in than out. I think you should go out and live amongst them before you go spreading your highfalutin concepts as the best way to improve your situation. Invest, you say! Maybe you should invest your time into some ongoing community work, like helping kids with their 3Rs so they have the potential to strive towards a better life. Are you a hands on person like that? You should give it a go. You would give the kids of Britwell immense pleasure as you drive up in your well deserved automobile. Give them something worthwhile to key the paintwork and slash the tyres.
      Your proffered advice only applies to those who have not only the means to be able to make changes, but also a sufficient amount of literacy to be watching your channel in the first place. I feel that your invaluable suggestions will not shake the lives of those who need it the most. Prove me wrong.
      I rest my case.

I won't delete your comments, I'll leave them here for everyone to read. But I won't be responding anymore.

    FULL STOP. What is keeping us poor has absolutely nothing to do with our minute spending habits and everything to do with wages not keeping up with inflation. Two years ago, a $100 trip to the grocery store purchased MORE and would last longer. In 2023, a trip to the grocery store, buying the same exact items, runs $150+ and wages have simply not kept up!!
    I made more (2x the salary) working in bars and clubs in the early 2000's than I do now working professionally at a very busy law firm, and owning a home has never been a reality for me (single 45). Affordable rentals are nearly impossible to find, especially with pets or children, and typically can only be afforded with a two a person income.
