Compact Hydrostatic Tractor - Is 25 Horsepower Enough?

  • I was worried about the low horsepower rating combined with the hydrostatic transmission. I'd still like to have more power, but at least my fears of this tractor being worthless are put to rest. #Workmaster25 #Hydrostatic #CompactTractor

    I have xg3025 ls , the same tractor. 200 hrs and paid for itself digging sewer lines etc. No regen. Had one problem , a $1.00 spring on backhoe saftey lever. You are going to love it..

    Rule of thumb is 1 HP per 100 pound of tractor. Even better is 1 PTO HP per pound of tractor weight. This rule of thumb works well in my 61 years of life on the farm. My father was a tractor salesman for over 30 years.

    I bought th RK55 with the shuttle shift trans. and loaded ag tires. I think it weighs right at 7400lbs as it set. I need to hook it to a tree and see what it will do. The RK has really impressed me so far. Im pretty easy on it though.

    Even my Ford 1220 hydrostatic with 17hp will spin the tires in 4wd with the diff locked (ag tires)

    I bet you’d have been really surprised if it pulled the big oak down….😜

    You were only spinning two tires both right side . And no diff lock engaged. I think more power . If I were receiving one .nice vedio .now I know what it will do. Nice tractor but I don't wanna say it .but I think they steered it if you know what I'm saying. Also the think is built like a skid steer but on a tractor frame.good luck with that

    You should do that more often it's really good for the transmission

    Either way. Having a tractor is awesome. New Holland is a good product. You will be trading in less than a year for a minimum of 40 hp. Get the 60 hp

      i like to get a 60 horse but my pocket book said you get a 35 horse work master

    At 25 horse power you’d want a gear tractor instead of a hydrostatic tractor.

    I live in va. Beach and have a 32 hp kubota and it’s not enough. You really need to re evaluate your decision making skills. With you land, nothing less than a 40 hp. 60 hp preferably

      As a dealer, we always try to drive home the fact that people will rarely regret getting something bigger than they think they need. I had a customer in today I sold a tractor to last summer. He was originally looking at a 33hp tractor and I got him to move up to a 54hp tractor and he told me he would have been really disappointed had he gone with the smaller tractor. The 25hp category is probably the class we have the most people buy something in that is too small for what they they actually need. Emissions seems to be a big driver of that. Everybody wants to try to avoid the emissions by staying 25hp and under but the DPFs on the machines larger than 25hp aren't really an issue these days.

    • @DLTJR1959
      @DLTJR1959 3 роки тому

      @@jackrdeen Agreed. But at first when they came out some did have issues. I owned a NH Workmaster 50 farm tractor and had zero issues. It only used a cat and had no dpf. It was a good system. I now have a 4610 Ford.

    • @jackrdeen
      @jackrdeen 3 роки тому

      @@DLTJR1959 There were definitely issues. The the engines in the Kubota B3350s and ZD1511s were notoriously bad in regards to emissions. So bad, we stopped stocking the machines. DEF headers on the bigger machines have been another historical problem but I think that's finally been fixed with the new DEF headers they released last summer. We've replaced a couple hundred of them since they were released last summer and haven't really had any issues with the ones we replaced.

    Gears are for tourque magnifacation and speed selection. Hydro-slack-o-slip-o-matics like to howl, whine, guzzel fuel and burn through filters and hydraulic fluids. That go pedal on the floor is loved by manufactures and dealers. A hydrostatic tractor costs 3 times more to operate and maintain than a gear drive. They are also in reality cheeper to manufacture even though they cost more at purchase time. Only buy a hydro if your making 50$ an hour or more with it. (You will find out). I own a shuttle-shift,a power-reverser, and a hydrostatic drive. The hydrostatic gets twice the maintance and attencion as the other two combined! So go easy on that "go" pedal and happy tractoring.

      Weird, my 1993 855 John Deere hydro had no problems when I sold it a few weeks ago.

    So not even an hour run time and your flogging it chained to a tree? You said it was cold outside, was the tractor even up to an acceptable operating temperature? Hmm, this is why I bought a new tractor myself...

    • @4-LOW
      @4-LOW  3 роки тому +1

      Yep, it was warm. And yep, it's chained to a tree because it's a tractor not a Prius. If what you see in this video hurts a tractor, then that particular tractor is not one that you want in the barn.

    • @lcee6592
      @lcee6592 3 роки тому

      @@4-LOW alrighty then whatever...
      If you really want to test the non prius factor of your tractor then leave it hooked to the tree with about 80’ of chain. Using high range, take off at wide open throttle and when the chain goes tight, then you’ll see how much of a tractor ya got there. That’s a real test.
      Please youtube it...

    My John Deere 1025R will spin all 4 tires in high range 🤷‍♀️just sayin 😂 those size tires are to big for that horse power just my opinion ...

    • @HFJCHS123
      @HFJCHS123 3 роки тому +3

      I suspect your JD 1025R is much lighter than the work master 25. Weight is one aspect to pulling power/traction. My guess is the WM 25 would drag your 1025R easily if they we chained together at the draw bar. I believe this WM has loaded tires and weighs over 4000 pounds as equipped.
      If I was driving over turf grass the lighter tractor is a plus
      If earth engaging and heavy front loader work weight is a benefit.

    Getting rid of your gladiator for an old man truck. Bad decision. my gladiator diesel rubicon with air bags will manage your cute 1500 series RAM all day. You truly missed out. 25 hp tractor with your property. Ole my gosh. You need review the 6 step decision making process the military teaches. Shit. Whatever you think you need, double it.
