Would you try the ice cream bean? What’s the wildest fruit you’ve ever eaten?
This was one of the wildest fruits (or beans?) I’ve ever eaten, and Gerry from @kupaafarms showed us how it’s done.
The ice cream bean (Inga edulis) is native to South America and is part of the legume family. This is by far the biggest bean I’ve ever seen, and it grows on a pretty large shade tree as you can see in the video 😮
The exterior bean pod looks and feels like a rough, ridged banana, and the inside is filled with beans encased in a fluffy white film. The beans themselves are large and black, and are segmented naturally as if they were precut and placed inside the skin. The white casing is the edible part and has a sweet and mild flavor reminiscent of vanilla ice cream 😋
It takes a bit of effort for not a lot of fruit, but it was 1000% worth it. Yet another reminder that the world is full of amazingly diverse edible plants outside of our grocery stores 😉

This "bean" which grows alot here in PR is called guama and yes the texture of the white fuzz on the bean really is like ice cream and is very sweet😋🍦😋🍦😋
PR? Puerto Rico?
@@tishrodriguez293 Yes Puerto Rico. My aunt has a guama tree that grows in her backyard🙂
That looks delicious can't wait to try it 😋
I am curious about acquiring seeds of these just to see if is even possible....and would hope to eventually try!!!! That is so cool!!! And I can't help but wonder the many uses they get used in locally!!!!🥰🥰🥰
Would it be even BETTER after you freeze it?
Its sooooooooo good
This fruit in Honduras we called it paterna and it’s really good
I wonder if this amazing fruit tree is suitable for building a tree house for the kids.
I don't know what makes a tree suitable for a tree house, but this tree has strong and rough branches. I used to climb it a lot during my childhood.
Edit: The tree I used to climb was a different type of inga. Its shell/pod were long and thin, with a darker tone of green.
How to buy?
Buah Salju
I want to buy seeds of this tree
What does it taste like
It's called guama and it does taste like ice cream due to it's sweetness and soft white fuzz on the bean.
Cotton candy
@@gusalvarez4297 totally agreed, this is more relatable than ice cream
Hiii
Please can you give some seeds
