My Jamaican Cherry tree is a year n half old, planted it when it was a foot tall...now it's about 12 feet tall! Fruiting again for the third time! Love those trees.
We have those trees in México they are native to this lands, we call them "capulines" they grow in low tropical forest with dry season. I remmember going to the forest with my friends when i was a kid and pick a lot of thise fruits , it was like our candy lol, almost every person in méxico south did that as a kid. i have one in my backyard nowadays P.S. Sorry for my terrible English.
Bought strawberry tree seeds. They were tiny. The nursery instructions assured that there were seeds in the pack even though it looked like dust. Three trees survived and man oh man are they fast growers. From a tiny seed to 12 feet in a year. The foliage and trunk are velvety . The smell is amazing. And the fruit are delicious. Great shade tree and a beautiful front yard tree. Glad I planted them.
@@patkelly7839 wet the soil , then scattered seeds on top and gently pressed them down to make good contact. I didn't cover it with soil because they are so tiny. And I kept it moist by spraying it with a spray bottle. Hope this helps.
In the Philippines we have lots of those plant those ice cream berry trees, they just exist, maybe thru the birds . Very sweet but you cannot find it in any market being sold.
They hate cold. I'm in Florida and mine was well over 14' with a huge trunk and. we got a freak freeze about 21° it was totally killed and no sign of it coming back from the ground. Super sad because they are delicious! I wonder if it could be potted?
lol in malaysia this grows everywhere in distubed land and even from window sills and rooftops due to the birds spreading the seeds absolutely everywhere. we dont really eat it cos the cherries are always full of worms.
Are you fertilizing it? If so with what mix? I have mine here in Central FL in the full sun and it's getting tall but not thick. I need it to get thicker to withstand the hurricanes. Thanks.
Strawberry tree it is local name in Florida. The rest of the world calls it Jamaican cherry. Actual stawberry tree is referred to Irish strawberry . Jamaican cherry has as much value as Barbados cherry for backyard food forest planting. Small cherry - barely any pulp inside and tree is shorted lived. Any Jamaican cherry I tasted either in Florida or South America has flavor of average fig. I am yet to taste any fruit from it that tastes like cotton candy. Why not to plant a good fig tree instead that is easier to grow in AZ than Jamaican Cherry.
well then all they need to do is to replace barbados and Jamaican cherries with more figs. Why to grow inferior fruit when you can grow something easier and more delicious. E.g. plant Panache Tiger and Black Marseilles fig trees instead. Dont have to worry about cold or heat and less water.
GOOD POINT BUT A FIG FACT>>>> fig are pollinated by wasps and in the pollination process, the wasp gets entrapped in the fig. When you open it up, look in the middle, you will find the wasp carcus.NOT FOR ME..
@@violethouseworth5943 I have over 20 fig varieties, I never saw any wasps pollinating them or found wasp carcass inside fruit. Some species of wasps do lay eggs into figs that have open "eye".

I love this tree. I planted it 1 year ago and it has grown to about 15 feet and produces fruit 365 days. Amazing tree.
