Great video! One of my favorite fish to catch! I have never caught any from the shore. From my kayak I used a 3/4oz blue and chrome Ratteltrap on a medium heavy 7ft freshwater bass rod with a freshwater bass baitcasting reel and 10 lb mono. Once out in the La Jolla Kelp I was fishing near a 1/2 day boat. Once they started chumming I casted out that Rattletrap and gave it a steady wind back in. I ended up catching 21 bonito and 3 log barracuda. You can only keep 5 bonito. That lure had the finish completely chewed off of it! My arms were so tired I left them biting and paddled in. What a great day that was!
That's crazy you caught bonito off a jetty! I never see those fish that close in shore. That spot must be pretty fishy. I think I've seen yellowtail there before. Back when it was really warm.
Usually when it’s warmer during summer, the schools of bonito swim by! I’ve seen them caught from shore too and most jetties and piers will have them. Nothing crazy big, but they’re still fun to catch on light tackle. Yeah I’ve heard of schools of small yellow tails swimming by the jetties occasionally too
Hahaha yeah there’s always gonna be a risk either way, but freezing it first is a good idea. I need to look into flash freezing. I heard that’s the best way to do it

Thanks for watching! That sounds like a fun day
I second the recommendation, I do this on freshly-caught mackerel, the little slimers as well, totally works.

Sick. When the swell dies I’m going to take my kayak out of Dana point harbor for some. Hope to get a few big 10lb range. Poke sounds bomb.

Thanks for watching! It might have been a small pline metal jig. I’m sure anything small and shiny would work well
