I live in Las Vegas now I'm 63 ,grew up in Downey fished every waking day I could man do I have some stories for you, I'll be writing a book called the rise and fall of the California fishery.
Caught my first Bonita off this Jetty when I was 14. I had my Dad's bamboo surf rod, Mitchell 306Spinner, retrieving a Mark IV Spoofer. That two pounder was a thrill.
Phil catches more fish off shore than most on the water with boats!!! Mad fishing skills. His next learned skillset will probably be to just talk the fish on to his hook.
Oh, this is one of my favorite fishing spots. Every time I bring a bag, I take all the garbage I can take away, including those left by others, but unfortunately, every time I go, I always see some
No worries brotha! I still want to get up there and fish with ya. I'm probably gonna to have a new job soon, so I will probably have to get there next year. When is the best month to fish up there?
@@Carl_Black I hear ya. The Dorado fishing is going off right now. I'm heading out on Saturday with my buddy John to fish em. Definitely taking video... Hope we get some!
I was at the NP harbour 2 days ago . I was hoping to see you . I have a 16 foot center console t top . I was wondering if you wanna join me for a day of fishing and maybe teach me some of your skills. I am semiretired and available most of the days . I live 12 miles from NP dunes
Hi M A. I'd be down to fish with you. I do have some other obligations for the near future. Do you have Facebook? If so, send me a personal message and we'll see if we can get out there. (Facebook: Phil Limon)
Hi H a M! Yes I do fish at the bait barge I usually always try to hit it up. Some days it can be awesome, some days it's slow. But it is always worth a try. I do like the paddle tail lures, Big Hammer, MC baits, ect. They do work well. I like the profile of the Jerk Shad though and it seems more consistent. I say use the lure that you have confidence in, that's the best advice.
Hey there. Sorry I didn't get back to you sooner. I just got back from vacation. I usually have a 6 or 8 lb spinning setup and a 10 or 12 lb baitcasting setup. That's what I typically use.
@@arthurk.5193 Hi there. I've heard different things about this. Some say that you need a license, some say you don't. I'm under the impression that you need one.
Hi Bryan! On Google Maps just type in Corona Del Mar State Beach Park. There's a pay parking lot or you can park on the street for free ( it's just a farther walk, but not bad).
Hi there. Sorry not to get back to you sooner. Check out my video on the channel. It's called "Newport Harbor Spotted Bay Bass Basics". I give a run down on what I'm using out there. Hope it helps! Thanks!👍
Hi Christian. I've caught Halibut along the entire jetty. My suggestion would be to try a spot for 15-30 minutes, if you don't catch one, then move to a different spot.
Hi SideWayz Ent .For the perch I was using an Ultra light spinning setup. 4lb test line, size 6 or 8 bait holder hooks and a few small pinch on weights. Mussels for bait. For the bonito, Bass, and mackerel I used a medium light spinning setup with 6-8 lb line and a 1/4 ounce leadhead jig with a Gulp 4 or 5 inch Jerk Shad.
Here's a tip...when you have an opportunity to catch Bonita like in this video while there biting stay in position and just turn your head and maybe raise your voice to be heard that way you can still have a shot at catching Boneheads, in other words, you stay "FOCUSED" But keep going, it's still early for you! and your number one goal is to provide "CONTENT"

It’s like watching my dad and uncle fish man I love your videos and all your tips 🙌🏼🐐🤘🏼💪🏼

I love doing this on the west jetty of Dana, so much fun! Nice catches
Thank you OCMountainbiking 949! I was thinking about doing a video down at the Dana Point jetty in the near future.
Thank u sir! Wanted to go 2day but couldn't so watching this was a great substitute.
Right on! It was a good trip. I'll tell ya though, it was hot and humid that day. 🥵

Good stuff thanks for sharing.
Right on man. The fishing is going crazy right now. It's good to see Bonito around.🙂

Are you fishing the outside or inside of the pier (harbor side)? Thanks. Sick bag u caught!

I never had the patience to walk to the end.
@@k.h.1587 It's a trek. I gotta mentally prepare for it. There's been a few times I've walked to the end and caught nothing.
Do you ever fish near the bait barge? Also do you prefer the jerkshad to a paddle tail? Thanks and nice vid!

Yeah, it has its days. Easier parking than the Wedge Jetty, and a much shorter walk out there..lol.
Great video I'm heading there tomorrow very helpful. What pound test are you using?

Do I need the license fishing on the Balboa Jetty or Corona Del Mar Jetty?

What rod and reel are you using?
Hi Jeff. Check out my video "Spotted Bay Bass Basics". I give a rundown of the gear that I use when fishing the harbor. Thanks!👍
Iv always wondered if fishing is permitted on that side. How would I get there? Or would it be on good maps?

Hey dude! I just caught a fish here and the meat was dark blue / black ?? Or greyish black? Any idea why that would be?
It also had a beak type thing and was lighter yellow in color.
Hi Dustin. My best guess is that might be a Senorita. Do you have a picture of it?
Anyone else see the dolphins from 8:00-8:30
Unfortunately I had to work today. in the harbor?
Any halibuts out there at the end of the jetty?

Curious - do you only go if the tide is incoming/outgoing? Does the jetty get swamped on high tide?
