    If you take a styrofoam pool noodle and cut it up into portions, you can wrap your sabiki rigs on them so they don’t get tangled. Less of a hassle imo 🤙🏼

      I take the cardboard the sabiki comes with, cut it into a small rectangle, and cut little notches into the top and bottom to wrap the rig around

      Its not like any other fish!! Although they taste normalish (known for a little fishy) they are one of the oceans highest mercury content fish. If you eat it a lot you'll get extremely sick. Once in a while is just fine but you dont want to make it a weekly thing.

    Man, I grew up fishing at Newport pier all through the 90’s up until around 2005 was the last time I fished there. I still walk down to the pier to see what they’re catching. It’s kinda sad to see that it’s usually all mackerel despite the nice chart at the beginning of the pier with all the species of fish that used to be there.
    In the 90s we caught corvina, perch, croaker, and halibut. The bait to use for those was sandstorms they were. $20 dollars for 10 at Grant’s (gunstore).
    0:05 Mackerel, we’d catch 3, 4 at a time with the sabiki, bringing home a bucket full of mackerel, and that was a bad day of fishing at McFadden Pier.
    Anyways, I enjoyed your video. You are a brave man. The only non-Asian I’ve seen eating mackerel like that. I eat mackerel too, it’s called saba in Japanese, saba shioyaki is a pretty common recipe for it.

      Big time! I think I’m heading to a jetty tomorrow. I don’t have a live bait tank though 😪

    Instead of reeling in right away when you feel the bite jig up and down three times then reel up and all your hooks will have a fish on The Sabiki !!

    What kind of weight do you use ?

    • @theperchjerker
      @theperchjerker  3 роки тому

      Lead weights. Either pyramids or torpedos. I run 1 to 4 ounce weights depending on the current and wind and what not. Always a 1 ounce for sabikis. Heavier for other bottom rigs.

    Another great video. You seem to use sabiki rig a lot, maybe you should invest in a sabiki rod and your rig will always be ready to use.

    You should do a catch and cook spider crab video 🦀. U can get a ring crab net for like 25 bucks . I’m always pulling up crabs the size of dinner plates off the balboa pier . I just subbed. I’m liking the content .

      Nice! What do the crabs like the best for bait?

    • @Caniver4
      @Caniver4 4 роки тому +2

      The Perch Jerker I just throw some raw chicken in there bro . Pull it up every 15 mins . I always pull up fat crabs 🦀 even pulled up octopus a few times 🐙

    I never thought there was anything edible from the local piers. I would not swim in the water for sure.
    But it looks tempting now
