You promised us an intense ambush and this was! The playthrough is great and remember you are using worse soldiers ie proficiency classes coupled with tougher enemies, I was not expecting that many shots from one enemy.
Man, that was tough. Ambush is usually one of the easiest "missions" you encounter but to encounter two andromedens on one ambush is brutal. Paired with a mistake that you will often (maybe usually) get away with or just take a wound for it makes for a memorably BAD day. My condolences even though I enjoyed watching. Good vid
I know, a lot of people don't even bother to watch them because there's often not enough tension to make it interesting. But this one was an entirely different experience!
This happened to me once too (two "big daddies" during Ambush), and tought me not to send bottom of my roster for covert actions. Instead, I always have one Specialist with medkit and another soldier with mimic beacon if possible. Ya know, just in case :)
*On the topside deck of The Avenger* Central: "We are gathered here today to remember our fallen brother in arms, Marine Lt Thomas 'Wolf Hound' Jones. His service record included 13 missions and 40 kills. Wolf Hound's bond brother Yamada would like to say a few words" Yamada: "Thanks Central. Thomas always believed in XCOM, and would want us to keep fighting, but I just want to take a moment to say thank you for your sacrifice brother. You will be in our hearts as we continue this fight to the very end" RIP Lt Jones 🕊️🫡 That was an INTENSE ambush, as always I appreciate the analysis. I would not have thought a trooper would have those abilities but the double Andromadons seemed excessive
Definitely a few lessons here to be learned. I feel like the biggest thing here and throughout your entire playthrough so far is that you're still not used to these new classes. For example, it feels like you're still not used to how there is no long range healing, or that combat protocol doesnt end the turn (I think!), which makes it better and the marine's sustained fire into suppression is a great "backs against the wall" tool, esp for the lost as well, if you have enough ammo, that is. Anyway, xcom is brutal, but we press on. Onwards and upwards Tapcat! :D
I'm watching the series along with the rest of you to refresh my memory and now that I'm a spectator, it's clear to me that I didn't put in enough effort to wrap my mind around the new class abilities and how to get the most out of them.
Dominis possum fox proboscis post mortem etu brutay puella carborundum!! A Cabtist prayer to RNGesus! 5 bonus points to anyone who can say where that prayer comes from!
Bad initial spawn point (so you couldn't make them run into your concealed dude on scatter to get an overwatch) and not taking advantage of exploding the car for a twofer (I think when the car was highlighted it indicates it can explode) really made it spiral, but you still made it work despite not being 100% on knowing what your soldiers and the enemies can do, which is what makes you a great player.
My biggest regret as I've watched this series after the fact is that I didn't put enough effort into learning the new class abilities. But it has also been interesting to see that even without getting value out of those abilities there is a lot of power in simply using the tactical basics of things like flanking, when to use explosives, etc.
I wondered that when I was watching the video today. I think that it only does 3 against organic enemies like troopers but I sure wish that I had checked it at the time.
Agreed, I just don't think that the devs ever considered it. And, strangely enough, I've never heard of a mod that does it either... although I've never searched for one so maybe it exists?
Love your honesty on mistakes made.
Thank you!

Nor was I, that was just brutal.

Even simplier, and you even mentionned it, you could have stun him again
I don't remember if there was a cooldown, but if not then that was a bad miss.

Rough, but at least some people made it out alive.
My new standard for success... hey, it wasn't a squad wipe!
i'm still wondering how he can play on the hardest level and i still am stuck on veteran! LOL
I make regular sacrifices to RNGesus and he protects me from harm. All praise his name!

The one guy was a gun slinger with quick hands that's why he could shoot twice! I learned that the hard way.
Yeah, that was a rough one and he definitely caught me off guard.
11:30 would combat protocol have done a guaranteed 4 damage here and killed the Advent guy?

There should be some way to break concealment on purpose when you want to make use of overwatch
I run into this all the time. I can't believe that there isn't a way to toggle that option

Didn't he get a free shot on your guy also because he killed that lost just before?
For the first shot, yes. But I can confirm from subsequent encounters that he can take up to 3 shots at one of your soldiers regardless.
