You had the Icarus Suit on a soldier and could have just flown to the objective to complete it. You also could have used the extra action from the skirmisher to get the tech specialist in a better position.
It would be cool if you both did the final mission separately and posted them and saw who did better (maybe even with different squads if you have enough Colonels)
So about not finishing the mission and the death of your soldier, three notes for you to reflect on for the future: 1- One thing that was very frustrating to you (and, trust me, to mee too) was that the heavy machine-gun guy couldn't target the people you wanted too, even if it makes no sense. Now, I fully agree that, from his position, he should have LoS, but if he doesn't... You have Icarus Jump, which is a free move that avoids Overwatch. You could reposition him. Yes, you risk triggering another pod, but, lets be honest, you probably already triggered most of the map at that point... I suspect it was, actually possible to get the kill on the guy you wanted, or at lest remove Overwatch from him (which would allow you to finish him with the shotgun-guy using Run-and-Gun) and still put your character in cover or in a good position. Hell, considering that ability where he just gets toi shoot twice, maybe you could have kill an Archon with one dude... 2- Speaking of Icarus Jump: At least on the base game, ANY character can do the hack if he is next to the target. So you could also just Icarus jump next to the box and hack it. Yeah, it's a soldier who won't shoot that round, but you kinda accepted you couldn't kill all the enemies that round (and one of them would go in stasis anyway), so why not? 3- Now talking about preparing for such a mission: If you are determined to have the tech specialist to do the hack (which is understandable as he has a better chance to get a reward and he can do it from a distance, thus getting full cover) why not give the Icarus Jump armor to the tech specialist? He coudl Icarus Jump to a better position, maybe even move if needed (like if you trigger another pod) and then hack. Seems to me preparation for this type of mission could make a difference here, both in saving a soldier and completing the mission. Either way, I understand you're making a lets play, you can't waste too much time thinking through things or you slow down the video and you have to constantly check if your equipment is working, so maybe you'd play better in your own, without the lights and the camera on you. Hell, I couldn't have finished my legenbdary playthrough if not for you series of tips on the game. I just thought maybe it is some food for thought.
REALLY good suggestions, none of which occurred to me at the time. I didn't think getting to the objective would be especially difficult when I was outfitting the team, but the Icarus Suit would be a great safety net whether you think you need it or not. Once I was on the mission map, I really just had tunnel vision. Partly because I can be wired that way. I had also come home early from work because I couldn't focus and somehow thought it would be a good idea to play XCOM. What could possibly go wrong playing this game while muzzy-headed?
How am I just noticing the City of Heroes box in the background? Always good to see my favorite game while watching a video about one of my other favorite games.
I LOVE City of Heroes. Did you know that it's actually available again? It started with underground servers but one of them actually managed to get a license from NC Soft. If you're interested, just search for City of Heroes Homecoming.
@@TapCat I sure did. I was ecstatic when I found out there were private servers available. It felt like coming home again (Pun intended). If you're ever on Excelsior, send a friend request to @Timeshadow. I'd love to run with you sometime.
Those stasis troops are way too willing to stay in the open when coming out, instead of trying to hide. Similar thing happened to Syken a mission earlier.
Yeah, it's tough when overwatch is one of the few tools available to you to try and avoid taking damage and he just stands there when he's already flanked. But I made our tech specialist vulnerable in the first place so I can't complain too much.
Im currently playing a campaign with simillar mods with the addition of double pod size. I wanted to say that i reallg was sleeping on the assault infantry for a good portion of the campaign; it is possible to spec them so that they can score a melee kill and then get rhe free movement to get into cover (via breakthrough). The captain level ability (i forget the name) gives you a non movement action point refunded for the melee kill also which you can then use to go on overwatch. Now if you have purchased the Lt. Level ability, you can then take overwatch shots on everyone moving within your C.O.B. (6 or 7 tiles). Apologies if that is dense to read, i will edit this later with the proper ability names! I will say that, at least in a campaign with the increased pod size, this had made the assault infantry actually more powefful than a vanilla ranger. I enjoy the new classes, the only downside being that they can be a little cookie cutter where there is always one choice or way to spec them that is clearly better than any other. This in contrast to vanilla where with the grenadier it was viable to have the multiple grenadiers built in different ways (grenade, gunner)
In response to your "future TapCat" comment, you could have dashed the Tech Specialist closer to the objective and then had the Skirmisher give him an extra action to hack the objective. Not sure how much overwatch he would have had to avoid in doing those two things, but that would have gotten him to the objective. Just a thought.
@@professordefisica I wasnt paying attention to that fact, but I before the Skirmisher went on overwatch, I said "give him (tech specialist) a free action". The jump would have been better, but the multiple pod activations on this run have been brutal, so I get why TapCat wasn't thinking about that option.
Yeah, the jump would have been potentially sweet but risky. I do think the root of the problem was that I was half in and half out on the whole idea. So I made a half-hearted attempt and then gave up. Given where we are in the campaign, the smartest thing to do would be avoid risks and just not worry about the hack once it was obvious that it was either impossible or very risky to even try.
Archon pods are the worst. It's a miss fest. I wonder what would have happened if you had gone to the roof with the tech. That's probably what I would have tried but that might have gotten me another pod. I learned a good lesson here that for hacking missions I should give my tech the archon suit. Either way, great crowd management. I doubt losing a mission at this point matters. I'm surprised you guys decided to do it at all.
Since the healing is contact limited I just defaulted to using the archon suit with healers. But it hardly matters a lot anyway because I usually get the suit rather late.
I probably should have tried the roof although both that and an Icarus Jump would have risked revealing another pod and doing so would have been disastrous. I honestly believe that the best option at that point was to make peace with the fact that it was time to let go of the mission objective and just focus on taking out the remaining enemies.
Once I got those first 4 misses I would have just loaded a save 5 min before that bs lol, game wanna play dumb games I just reset it lol, give me a blind ass squad missing 84% shots lol, try again game (literally) lol

Tough mission. I think the rage suit can also give an extra free move and attack.
True.

That activation was something special!

Rest your throat and get well soon!
Thanks!
The only thing missing from those last two packs was a Sectopod or two…
Lol, that would have been the cherry on top of the crap sundae.
Jesus christ he is going to call help which means there is even more. Damn.
Ok you're also affected by a serious case of bad luck in your shots...
THE ENTIRE F*ING MAP JUST DECIDED TO CHARGE YOU? What just happened game? What about the Fog of war? Does it just not exist anymore?
That was pretty crazy and I believe the same thing had just happened to me within the last few missions.

Ok, no seriously you know he's wounded already, don't dash her forward, just fall back a bit and focus the snake or overwatch this round...
Ok it worked, but seriously risky move...
