Man that was excruciating. Kept barely alive soldier alive and finished after facing disaster. Those 3 shot Advent guys are ungodly. Enjoyed seeing (and hearing) you bring new meaning to the phrase "famous last words". Still and all, mission finished with no death's. Well done. Good vid
Was *struggling with a Blacksite mission last night. Thought to myself: “Let’s go watch some TapCat Blacksite missions and try to figure out what I’m doing wrong.” Then lo and behold, here’s a brand new one! Thanks, @TapCat! *I really struggle with how best to engage pods INSIDE a building when I’m outside and have already been revealed. Enemies have SO much cover in that situation :/
Also, if you're outside the building you can use the walls to block line of sight from most of your squad, so the enemy can't target them. But ideally you just don't want to let the enemy act. If you destroy cover and can kill all the enemies you probably should even if you have to leave some of your guys out of cover to do it (as long as there is no enemy to shoot at you its not a problem. That is assuming a Vanilla game of course. The mod of this gameplay for exemple makes all of that a lot harder.
I agree with conrad that explosives are really good. There is the small drawback that you won't have as much cover once you push forward but it's the safest way to break that initial standoff. Beyond that, I'd have to really put some thought into it because I don't want to steer you wrong.
Thank you @conradoccaminha and @tapcat 🙏 I’m a big fan of grenadiers. (I prefer to take two whenever possible.) …but I tend to use them for the AOE and under-utilize them when it comes to destroying cover. One reason for this is how Xcom sometimes lies about what cover will get destroyed. But in looking back through various missions in this series, it seems that TapCat’s primarily motive for using a grenade is *often* destroying cover. Sometimes a flank just isn’t enough or a flank is simply impossible considering geography and which soldier triggers the pod. I played a mission last night and did nothing different but put more emphasis on grenades for destroying cover and got some great results 🙌
@@ChrisOatley Yeah I also bring 2 Grenadiers in most missions. There is some cover that is undestructible, you have to pay attention to it (usually they're thick colums of steel), but in general, yes, I think that's the most important. Rushing to a flank is a plan, but one you have to weigh the risks before you can do it.
When you went to skull jack the codex, I immediately went "Hey, unless Syken already did that in one of the missing episodes, that's gonna give you an Avatar to deal with." I'll admit to laughing quite a bit at that point 😅😅😅
Yeah, as I was watching the video after the fact I saw that there had been an objective in the upper left corner of the screen telling me to use the skulljack on the codex. That had been there the whole time prior to me actually doing it, so this was definitely our first codex hack. Alas, I almost never look at those objectives so I didn't see it while playing and walked right into summoning an avatar without meaning to.
Jessica: "Guys I'm hit pretty bad, I need medical aid" Wei: "There isn't a field medic on this mission" Heather: "There isn't?" Jessica: "That's fine, I can patch myself up, pass me the first aid spray" *Wei and Heather 😬* Wei: "Well you see...." Heather: "We didn't bring any" Jessica: "What?" Heather: "I thought Wei was gonna bring it so I brought tracer rounds" 😅 *Jessica looks at Wei* Wei: "I was gonna bring it but I wanted to try the WAR suit and it doesn't have a pocket for and extra spray so I didn't bring it, sorry" 😔 Jessica: "If I die I'm haunting both of you" 😑 This was an crazy mission, you even added the Avatar fight which I feel was a scary choice. Great job keeping us alive and progressing the story 👍
Some might question whether I actually chose to fight the avatar or if I simply tried to get a cheap kill by using the skulljack on the codex. I'm not saying it's true, but I'm not saying it's NOT true either.
Honeslty it was a little reckless of you not bring any healing kits in this mission with so many enemies but I understand the forgetfulness. Either way, that guy shooting 3 times was pretty tough. Good thing the game is pretty bad at planning and he didn't target the person literally flanked...
I freely admit that I should have brought at least one. But I tend not to think about them when there's no medic coming and I strongly suspect that it was less of a conscious choice than a simple oversight.
I could, but it's way more of a pain to do that when you're recording and I usually am too absorbed in trying to solve what's in front of me to think about taking a break.
I think banish is really good without any weapon mods. With mods? it is game breaking. Bonus if your reaper can get inventory items from the training centre, but I find that is a rare ability to be offered.
I wouldn't blame them, ethereals are just silly. Reveal a pod with an ethereal and three other guys, and then the ethereal summons six more guys (many of whom will be stronger enemies from other mods)? Good luck with that.
We didn't disable the mod, but (mild spoiler)... I literally never saw one in the entire campaign. I can only guess that it's because we had added so many other psionic enemies to the mix that the game just didn't pick ethereals when it was randomly assigning the opponents for each mission.
I like to clear the whole outside first and then enter the building from all sides (preferably one ranger goes in while everyone else shoots from the skylight.) My most anxious period is the final evac.
From a purely tactical point of view, this is the way to do it. When recording a video that already ran 2 hours long, there's no way I can expect anyone to watch me crawl the perimeter that way. I'm not exactly playing to the TikTok crowd but pretty much everyone has a limit. 😉

Yeah, her getting hurt like that right out of the gate was really stressful but at least it made for a suspenseful video.

Don't know what tapcat thinks but I always try to save my grenades for that. Too much cover? Blow it all up!

What a treat, right :D?
A great episode, you must have been drained at the end. I’m happy your sniper made it out.
You got that right, it was a truly grueling marathon of a mission!
The units that shoot 3 times are the alien equivalent of the reaper. Welcome to being on the wrong end of Banish!
You are correct, and I don't like it! 😉
Now imagine, they could have been "proper" Reapers, using some sort of Shadow. And with expanded mags!
Woah - long mission! You’ve got this😎👌🏼
By the skin of my teeth!
Just got here and saw the time... How frienking long is this mission? Damn.
Long. Too long.
One of the BEST episodes of this series! I am so happy Jessica made it home, it would be awful to loose her.
Agreed, she's awesome!
Immagine being that first soldier through the door and seeing the veritable PARTY the enemy was having in there...
I know, right? That was pretty crazy.

Great episode, that final pod reveal was hilarious. I think the Icarus jump only worked under the skylight?

Hey Tap great video! FYI if you want to name a weapon you can on the weapon upgrade toggle.
Now that you say it I do remember that but I think I had largely purged it from my "memory banks."
If Codex Primes can duplicate on taking damage, that could spiral out of control really quickly lol.
Lol, that could get pretty gross!
Super long missions are very tiring to play. Can you allow yourself to take a break mid-mission?
I could, but it's way more of a pain to do that when you're recording and I usually am too absorbed in trying to solve what's in front of me to think about taking a break.

You're right, it's good no matter what but still only a pale shadow of its potential with a repeater and expanded magazine.
Haven't seen any Ethereals for awhile. Did you guys disable that mod from the campaign?
I wouldn't blame them, ethereals are just silly. Reveal a pod with an ethereal and three other guys, and then the ethereal summons six more guys (many of whom will be stronger enemies from other mods)? Good luck with that.
I tried it once and ended up removing it from my campaign. But I was curious to see how they tackle it.

Not content with turning civilians into faceless, Advent now does that with their own soldiers for absolutely no good reason...
I can't quite wrap my head around that one either.
