    Nice work. With the miter saw, given you're going from a 4 to a 1 3/4(?), you can probably Y in another 2" drop to the floor of the cabinet to catch all that the SN dust boot doesn't and not loose suction..

      I’ve had that and I found that a 2 inch port trying to capture loose dust in a box that’s roughly 2.5x2.5x2 doesn’t do much. My process is to shop vac out what the box catches each time I have to take my front cover off (which is when I need to make a miter cut). That works for me atleast

    I saw the 84 Lumber banner. Do you use them for boards or plywood? I have one pretty close and have always intended to check them out but haven't yet. Thanks and love your videos, humorous and serious ones alike!

      Thank you! I don’t unless I have a big project like a playground or something. They are more wholesale to the homebuilder. That said, they can get you whatever you need, even if that one stick and one sheet.

      For the hobby woodworker: it handles everything I throw at it (jointer and planer making the most chips). The 4” port and ducting is plenty strong for anything I do, so I’d say it is a fantastic purchase. Just don’t skimp on the barrel size as the 14 gallon would fill up like 1/2 way through any planing job. Hope that helps

    Hey John, I didn’t realize that your shop is pretty friggin big. I have the same Dewalt Miter saw with the shop nation dust collection do-dad and yeah, much improved over the stock component. Do you have to take it off to get your blade off? I do for some reason. I’ve been actively working on my dust collection also and have to tackle the connections to my palm sanders next. Well done!

    • @Stillworks
      @Stillworks  4 місяці тому +1

      I had to take the blade off to install it so I assume the reverse would be true. You should Do a video on your dust collection setup, as it’s a thing that most people do a ton of research on before they build out their system

      @@Stillworks actually, yes, I have a dust collection video in the works with the shop nation thingy, some mag connections, power tech cyl one DIY set up and Oneida dust deputy/shop vac set up. Weird how you had to take blade off to get the SN do-dad, on, I tried that and then couldn’t get the blade back on. 🤔

      @@Stillworks yeah, I did, and I had to do it three times. First time I realized my blade was rubbing against one side of the port, so I took the blade off and realized the build up around the arbor (prob because of all the pallet wood I use) and realized the deflection of the blade. Cleaned it all up with WD-40 and a toothbrush, installed the SN dust collection and couldn’t install the brand new Diablo blade I had.. maybe if I spent more time I could have.. disconnected the SN port, then was able to install the new blade and then reinstalled the SN collection port.. IDk, maybe I was just overthinking it and couldn’t perform. Little Blue Pill?

    John, I use the same aluminum blast gates, but I installed mine with the tightening screw on the top, and yours was underneath, does it matter? I am upgrading my dust collection unit to an Oneida shortly 2hp to 5hp. Stay safe

    • @Stillworks
      @Stillworks  4 місяці тому

      Yes it does, because as you tighten the screw it forces the natural gap that is in the aluminum gates and they bend-fully-closed. I’m sure it is not detrimental suction loss, but it is certainly some
