I quite literally spent pretty much an entire summer years ago playing through this game, steadily unlocking each and every cheat. Looking back on it, I have no idea how I managed to complete some of these timed requirements. While it does feel good to see a complete list of cheats on the main menu, it was quite an incredible feat that I never want to do again.
You are totally right. Every seen/done the in-game button activation cheats? AFAIK, they were only ever published in one issue of Nintendo Power and, honestly, don't get enough attention for being quite a gem.
How does this affect competitive runs (AGDQ etc.)? When records depend on RNG and where Dr. Doak appears, although the elite runners probably have workarounds for that.
A few helpful tips for anybody stuck on the Facility 00 agent time: 1. Instead of coming down the stairs into the side room to kill the guard with a keycard (25:50), The PP7 is just loud enough to alert the guards in the control room to come out, saving a few seconds to rush in and out. 2. When you come to end of the hallway nearing the second control room, As soon as you break towards the left door use the KF7 and spray for a few seconds. The guard on the other side will open the locked door and you can spray him down immediately after. 3. Skip the hallway doors. You're better off resetting near the end if Dr Doaks not there, Rather than waste precious time scouring room to room
First room on the right, after you go through the door you have to activate for Doak..If he aint there u can keep moving and check 1 of the 3 labs and still nail the time if hes at the 2nd spawn point! Just 1 of the many Strategy's when trying to unlock the cheat on Facility!
Good tips. Another good tip is side strafing. When you enter the hallway with the three guards, hide behind one of those pillars. The guards seem to always fire in short bursts, so let them get that first burst out of the way while you're hiding. When you hear that they're done firing, make a break for the door again. You might even be able to pop one or two of them. Personally, I don't toss the mine because explosions are indiscriminate. I always end up taking damage.
I really like that you let the levels fade out before the next. Good creativity. Edit: also your advice on continuing the level even if you fail is crucial to get these times. Great video.
Thanks so much man, really appreciate your comment… audio video is so important, I try to let the games shine through. And yes, gotta keep up those reps to get consistent
On control when you're protecting Natalya. You can go to the stairs on the second floor in the center, and that's where they mainly spawn from the third floor and it's super easy dropping enemies there. Just stand in front of the set that goes up to the third floor.
On 00 agent, it’s much easier from the bottom of the stairs behind Natalia. Blow up both desks on either side of her, before opening her door. From the top of the stairs, it’s MUCH harder to spot the guys behind the glass, when they do come out. Also, if they have Hats, they go for bond. If they DONT have hats, they target Natalia. Makes it easier to decide who to engage first, if getting overrun.
@@EffYoInfo Those surprise glass guards were the worst. You had to be paying attention because they'd light her up everytime otherwise if you didn't catch them almost immediately.
I couldnt defeat Jaws for years in Aztec. Then I realized, if you stand right in front of him so that the distance of his gun tip is further than you, he literally cant hit you at all
control's always kinda an interesting one with a weird trick i don't think most players realize. every enemy that targets natalia spawns on the top floor from which there's only one stairway leading to the lower levels. there's also a balcony on the second floor overlooking natalia that juts out in a way that you can be close enough to natalia so that she completes her objective while allowing you to monitor this lone stairway and protecting her (you'll still have some guards spawning to your sides targeting you). as long as you don't miss a guard coming down the stairs, protecting natalia is relatively simple.
You know the Invincibility cheat is a pain in the ass when the Xbox Edition has a “number of 00 Agent Facility attempts” section under Game Statistics.
Makes sense it was hard... after that cheat you could basically run around and explore every lever and mess around with the most optimized routes lol. Although you could do the same with the invisibility one. I never got invincibility. DARN close on a few tries, but nope. Doak was always a pain in the ass to deal with too. That and being what must've been a few hits away from beating the final boss in Double Dragon 3 are always the ones I regret... and playing on an emulator just isn't the same.
Yeah, some of these are a pain, even on the Xbox re-release with better controls. A couple of things I've found to help out: 1. On Control while protecting Natalya, stay on the second floor in front of the stairs. It's a great place to take out every guard. Just ignore her comments. 2. On Cradle after you destroy the console, stay on that same level and run to the fence above Alec. You can then aim for his head without him shooting at you. Then run back through the control house and go to the other side by the fence above where Alec is standing. Repeat until he runs to the bottom floor. When you follow him, fall backwards down the ladder and immediately crouch. You'll get an extra second or two to shoot him. It really helps.
Yeah, I saw that Cradle technique in another video where you can peak over the edge and shoot Trevelyan and rather than follow him on the bottom , you can just run back to the opposite building and get him there. Didn't know about the crouch trick though, I may have to try that.
Ignore her comments, DO NOT ignore the sound of glass breaking lmao. That indicates there's a soldier on the 1st floor shooting at her from the corner.
I only just now realized Trevelyan's line in Cradle, "Finish the job, James--if you can." is probably a reference to the Arkangel chemical weapons facility scene in the film. When Trevelyan is 'captured', he insists, "Finish the job, James, blow it all to hell!"
Definitely spot-on list. Those top three are where most of the struggle I had with the target times lied. Though Control and Aztec certainly were somewhat grueling as well. Those super long levels along with Caverns felt the most taxing even if they aren't even the hardest ones necessarily. Facility absolutely took more attempts than anything but given how short that level is the actual time investment might have been less overall. I do remember spending several hours on it as well though. Clearing all of these target times was an awesome challenge and honestly something I would like to do again sometime. Props for finishing the challenge yourself!
@@mathprodigy well don't, I can't even fathom how I even managed to beat control on SA as a kid let alone beating the target time, as them autoguns are savage and it was a chore in itself just beating on agent again the other day on the xbox
@James for real man lmao folks don't realize what this was like in the 90s, you're talking a hugely daunting task. Hell that very first room was a nightmare for someone that knew nothing of speedrunning strats... well basically knew nothing period LMAO
@@mathprodigy yeah that sucks, even on agent as whilst you're worrying about the guards running down the stairs it seems a couple of clever guards blow the glass on either side simultaneously and shoot Natalya to bits. I've come to the conclusion (as I think i did 25 years ago) that positioning yourself near the glass is the way to go (panel closest to wall, either side) then focus on shooting guards as they come down stars either side as unless you have already blown the mainframes it remains the only way guards can get in. That being said, I can't currently confirm the strategy works on secret and 00 agent difficulties Edit: too right it was daunting back in the 90's, as not only did we have to deal with level difficulty, but we also had a blurry display, severe framerate dips, and the parts inside the analogue stick wearing down reducing the speed that we can move/turn
As a 7, 8 year old with no computer nor guide, playin this on release it was all about unlocking the difficulties 1st, figuring out all missions and locations for everything 2nd then playin the same level over and over, refining my strat times. Unlocking these cheats was some of my earliest showings of a hardcore player..my brother was 5 years older and we grew up gaming but i grew an edge fast.
This sounds like me and my older bro grinding to beat these when we were kids too. We got em all but I remember a few being an absolute pain in the ass. Facility being up there.
There's a few things to make these easier, like the cradle, 006 is killable in the chase if you damage him enough in the vulnerable states, on top of that it's faster to actually double back between the operation rooms and wait for him to open the door, he'll actually wait in the room allowing you to shoot him then run to the bottom of the ramp to shoot him again making it twice as fast. Honestly having 100% the game on Xbox makes me both appreciate strafe boosting and realize how much time is actually wasted by sloppy boosting and not using auto aim. Jaws can actually be beat with no issues by blasting him with lasers up close as he comes out of the narrow passage he's standing in front of, he can't shoot you up close most of the time.
You cannot kill Trevelyan before the bottom platform at the end, no matter how many headshots you manage during his damageable points in the chase, he'll just run to the end part much sooner. However, Aztec is an interesting one, because you can actually do it without killing or even encountering Jaws. It doesn't always work, but there's a tactic involving standing in front of the glass door with the disc and blasting it a fair bit with an AR-33, quickly retreating away to the alcove with the terminal that opens the mainframe. Sometimes, a guard goes to the glass door to check out the gunfire, and actually opens it for some reason. In other words, you don't need the ID card from Jaws, and you won't trigger the respawning laser guards. Unfortunately, as I said, it doesn't always work.
@@Nightopian1982 It's entirely possible to kill him, he has to be stationary though to receive damage, he'll even sometimes kill himself with a grenade in certain circumstances which is one of the techniques that speed runners have looked at.
@@cd31000 I guess it is, sorry I'm aware of the method, it's just I've tried many times to get him to drop a grenade and kill himself in the console room, but it just doesn't seem to work for some reason. I've always put it down to being on Xbox or Switch and not '64, but I'm obviously doing something wrong or I've got a strange version of the game. I've been the same with the Jaws thing. I told numerous people about it, but none of them managed it, even after I demonstrated it with a naff camera phone from years ago lol. Sometimes I think it's just blind luck with the code!
@@Nightopian1982 The Jaws trick does have some minor inconsistency with it admittedly it usually works fine, but sometimes you'll still get hit for reasons, but I usually go down the shortcut hallway lure the guards and throw a grenade or two, with any luck you'll kill the two guards and then back out of the hallway and wait for Jaws to pop out to do the trick. I found it more consistent when I hunted for the achievements on Xbox, although I myself was unaware of speed running tricks like the glass until after the fact, although I'm usually a bit prideful about playing games by the book unless there is no other options, like using glitches to catch Mew for Red and Blue.
@@cd31000 That's most definitely a faster way of doing Jaws, but it's obviously dependent on picking up grenades from those bastard guards and making sure you're accurate with the throws. The method I've suggested isn't foolproof either, but it's fairly okay, as long as you don't hang around to get shot. Like you say, it depends on how much of a purist you are about completing games properly. I personally can't stand using glitches to beat games or do them as fast as possible (I'm not sure I'd class those Aztec and Cradle methods as that, they're more "shortcuts" than anything). My mates will tell you (and probably some people on Discord and UA-cam channels) that I'm very particular about not using glitches. I honestly get why people do it, it's just not for me. I cringe when watching speed runs of GE when people are basically perfecting running along diagonally, looking at the floor etc, which just detracts massively from the point of the game in my eyes. I've seen oodles of these Ocarina of Time playthroughs recently, and whilst it's curious to see how people have managed to take advantage of code distortion, it actually looks stupid in many places, because it spoils the flow of the game design.
Bro thanks for all the help on my revisit to goldeneye! Nostalgia is what made me download the game on gamepass, but you are what made me able to get through some of these levels. Young me must of been cracked to be able to do it alone because I lost my touch hahaha.
You could argue the Egyptian level time is difficult but only from the perspective of beating all the levels (especially Aztec) on 00 Agent to unlock it. That level was a unicorn for a few years for me. But I completely agree Facility is the most difficult time to beat.
I hear what you’re saying, it’s just that I’d have to apply that logic to the rest.. and I can’t constantly say things like, Cradle is after Caverns and Control therefore it’s super hard.. I have to look at each stage on its own, ya know! Thanks for watching broseph!
The strategy for doing these is burned into my mind to the point of being simple. However, it took YEARS to get to that point. Explaining how tough Goldeneye is to someone is remarkably difficult.
100% I was explaining this to my nephew who was 5 when the original came out. I unlocked everything for us. He's playing it now as an adult and says it's gonna be easy doing everything. I just told him, you'll see.
Facility is such strange level. As a player, the 2:05 mark is daunting and seems impossible, a major challenge for such a valuable cheat. However, once you go down the hole of speed running, facility becomes an extremely easy level that is hugely forgiving, and doesn’t even feel challenging. Casually going under 90 seconds isn’t even hard, it’s just a matter of getting the doak spawn. Speedrunning opens a whole can of worms on this game because you never play or see it the same way again
Thank you for sharing this video! Low key got PTSD flashback from my childhood trying to beat those damn levels. Gonna see if I can do them again with your tips 🙌
Golden Eye, Rush 2, and Star Fox 64 are my favorite games. I played a lot of Call of Duty games, and I beaten campaign mode on Veteran 5 different games and beated 2 missions on Veteran without a death. Goldeneye takes skill because there are objectives that have to be complated.
Yesterday I got all Time Targets and also 00 Agent completions on Switch in all levels up until Cradle... I am so scared of Aztec, it gives nightmares. Control, Caverns and Train were incredibly hard but it was satisfying going through them multiple times and developing my own path through the levels (where to stand to shoot soldiers, when to use extra mines, how to save ammo, etc etc). Facility was pure luck LOL
Aztec on 00 agent on the original 64 was royal pain it took 10 year old me a month of practicing to be able to beat it and when I did I felt like coolest kid in the neighborhood.
"Half of everything is luck, James !" How appropriate for Facility ! I would like to see some other "Top 10 Hardest", like "Jiggies in Banjo-Kazooie", "Golden Bananas in Donkey Kong 64" or "Silver Coin Challenges from Diddy Kong Racing" !
Haha! That’s a great quote for the target time! Thank you so much for watching and requesting more, I totally agree… I literally just uploaded Top 10 Hardest Moments in Conker’s Bad Fur Day last night, and I’m going to do some Pokémon Stadium stuff since that just got released online.. but yes, to everything that you said. These ideas are awesome and I’ve been thinking about them for months, just been messing with me in what order I tackle it all. Be sure to stick around bc they’re coming my dude!
Awesome video, I been watching all the Goldeneye speedrunning stuff for years but this video puts you back to how it was in the 90s getting these cheats.
Strangely enough about the control room mission is the enemy soldiers and what they look like. What i deduced is that if the enemy is wearing a beret, they're gunning for you, but if they any hat they're gunning for natalya and you if don't kill them in time, that's a restart buddy.
Did the Facility in 1:37 on 00 Agent tonight.. haven’t speedrun it in decades. My best time ever I believe. Game has new life on Gamepass, havin a blast with it all these years later. Gonna go have a vodka martini now 🍸
I really wish I could remember how many tries it took for me to get the Facility target time as a kid. It took me 25 tries on the Xbox release. But, I'm just happy I was still able to do it lol
One thing I learnt on Control was that at the beginning, those first two computer mainframes make sure you place the mine on the box itself so that the glass next to them breaks because this come in handy for later on when protecting Natalia because you can see the guards run to the sides who break the glass and shoot Natalia.
I clicked on this list just because I knew facility would be number 1 and I wanted to relive the trauma of finally making it through with decent health only for Doak to not be where I needed him 😭😭😭
Take the multiplayer away and this is still one of my favorite games ever. The campaign is so much fun. And once you've completed every level on 00 agent, you get the additional challenge of trying to unlock every cheat. Man this game is so good. I replay it every couple of years and always have a blast. Something I've wondered is, is the cheat harder if it takes you more tries or takes you more time? Archives might take 20 tries but if it only takes 30 minutes, who cares?
The multiplayer was added in secret at the last minute without permission from management. The reason you slide around on your knees is because they didn't build the animations. Such a wonderful backstory for something so iconic.
Facility...a total nightmare. I finally beat the level in time, but the level burnt into my memory to the point that I had a dream about it. Dr. Doak, 006, and the gas tanks are such trolls.
I'm running back through this game for the first time in over 2 decades, and man, I forgot how challenging it is. Especially with the Switch controls (I'm beginning to get the hang of it now, but aiming is super difficult for sniping). I have been actually conquering more 00 Agent missions now than I did when I was a kid (not sure how many I did without a GameShark). You're right about some of top 5 missions, they are rage inducing. Caverns, and Facility in particular. Ive come so close to Caverns target time (or under) so many times, but the stupid scientists keep getting in the way of destroying the pump controls.
Haha oh man, yeah those dang scientists! I’m glad to hear you’re gettin the hang of the switch controls.. I’ve heard a lot of complaints about the control on switch and Xbox. You got this, dude! You’re doin it!! 🔥show those missions who’s boss!
@MarMax Gaming Thanks, dude. I've only heard complaints about the Switch controls, but not the Xbox. I thought I heard someone say that they fixed that problem with the Xbox controls and that you can move Bond with modernized controls. I guess I heard wrong. I guess I was also wrong about the difficulty level for Caverns. I thought the T.T. was for Secret Agent. Looks like I got more grinding to do, lol.
@@KRS2000 I’m glad it got fixed, then! I saw a lot of people claiming they couldn’t strafe and all that, so I’m sure I’m the one with old news! How many stages do you have left?
@@MarMaxGaming I have two stages left for Secret Agent: Caverns and Cradle. 4 if we count the bonus 2. 10 more for 00 Agent: Facility, Silo, Frigate, Bunker 2, Depot, Train, Jungle, Control, Caverns, and Cradle. 12 if we count the bonus 2.
I’m playin on Xbox it’s so easy with two thumb sticks. My bro has switch with the n64. I couldn’t even beat damn on the easiest level. I’m currently on Aztec 00 agent. Not realizing I still have to go back and do earlier difficulties
I only just learnt last few weeks that to completely make this level easier mainly protecting Natalya, don;t protect her from where she is standing, instead stand on the higher platform, the stairs where you went up to get the armour, apparently all the guards will come through through there and u easily pick them off till Natalya is done. no guards go downstairs or go through the glass
She whinges that she needs cover and you've gone too far away from her. Ignore her, because it doesn't actually affect her completing her work or reset any timers etc. Worst nightmare is that she just stands there doing nothing until you get close to her again, but thankfully that's not how it works.
@@halfbakedproductions7887 Her A.I is probably the worst in gaming history. Im not givinf any slack because of the time period. She was absoluteky shocking. The levels of Frustration cant even be described.
@@halfbakedproductions7887 there's an area on the middle level that juts out where you're still close enough to natalia that she completes her objective while every guard that targets natalia spawns on the top floor (there are still guards that target you which spawn from elsewhere so you have to watch for them) which only has one stairway leading down. so you can stand facing that staircase with your back to natalia just mowing down all the guards as they descend the stairs.
@@wfchannel4673 100% im still fumming i never knew this way back then. what used to tbrow me off was dealing with the guards from the side windows I feel apart from this part of the level the rest is more of a breeze even on 00 Agent as long as you are not careless
It took me moonths, if not over a year, to unlock invincible on Facility. When I finally did it, I beat it by 7 seconds - I think. The only cheat I never unlocked was the dual RC 90 on Caverns. That was hard but then Perfect Dark came out and I was on that for years enjoying it.
I'm amazed at how much better at this game I am now than when I was a kid. I beat these all with relative ease. The hardest ones for me were Train, Control and Caverns. All others I think I got within a few tries. The one I dreaded, Facility, which did take a bunch of resets, but only because Doak was never where I needed him to be, I didn't find too bad, because I could always make it to the end quickly and easily, despite Doak's placement. Also, I practiced Aztec on Secret Agent a bunch before getting the cheat, but then once I tried it on 00 Agent, I got it on the first try... Like, I was expecting that one to definitely take a while, but I think the exploits in that level make it more of a cakewalk than it really should be. The invisible enemy bullet walls are so cheap IMO. Helps cheese so many otherwise very difficult parts.
I bet you can! I’m playing the switch version and made it to Aztec so far, unlocking all cheats on the way, despite horrendous control mapping. I’m 36.
Yeah! That’s what I was thinking. And we didn’t have internet to help either! Ahhh good times! I been playing goldeneye on the switch and I am stuck on the train mission. Failed it so many times. I can do it all the way until the ending. That’s where I get stuck. I almost had it last two rounds I got so close. And I even have the n64 controller too! These games were easier as kids I swear.
I don’t know if it will help speed runs, but it definitely makes the level a little easier if at the start of frigate, you walk out onto the front of the ship you can headshot the guard with the gun pointed at the hostage from the window. When you enter the bridge it will be empty and the other guards will now be behind the doors with their back to you.
Facility was always my favorite level as a kid, so I remember thinking I could get that target time… 😂 oh boy… I sunk hours into attempting it. Can’t remember if I ever pulled it off though, but I do remember the grind. Sucks that a couple of these depend on getting good luck as opposed to pure skill. Also, I just love that little elevator ditty that plays at the end of control 😂 totally undercuts the intensity of the stage. Gets me every time.
Did you ever play Banjo Tooie? It has multiplayer and, as both games were made by Rareware, one of he Banjo Tooie multiplayer levels is just the Facility reskinned
I've been playing, beating and getting every achievement on the xbox game pass version recently more times than I could count.. opening 3 different xbox accounts to regain achievements again. This game is truly a classic. Each playthrough I've gotten much better at beating each level on 00 Agent and getting the cheats. Based on your list, I agree to Facility and Caverns being on the top 2. Facility just takes a few tries depending on Doaks spawn location. Caverns is too long and tedious with those blue hat guards, the scientists at the inlet pump controls are so stubborn, and you begin to hope and pray the radio doesn't blow up. I'm surprised I wanted to keep doing those cheat unlocks on numerous occasions
@@MarMaxGaming Perfect Dark is more difficult, as the enemy AI is a bit smarter and especially there is no damage delay so you can die easily from enemy bursts in the highest difficulty.
I’m playing through Golden eye on Xbox as it was just rereleased yesterday. When I was a kid, I had all the target times completed. I am wondering how the heck I was able to do that on an N64 controller lol. Much easier with an Xbox controller now. I’m doing the target times in order and of course facilities was #2. It took me 3 hours to get it. I just kept repeating my run until I got Dr Doak in the glass rooms to make it easy. I am sweating the thought of doing train as I recall that one being a pain for a very long time in my N64 days.
Having such a blast and enjoying the nostalgia from almost 30 years ago when playing Goldeneye on Nintendo. Thank you for the vids on completing the cheats for this. I haven't gamed in decades but wanted to try again, especially with Goldeneye returning and how much I loved it back then. Really brings back the memories of just how difficult some levels were to get, lol. Never did do all the cheats back then, was just happy to complete the missions and now wonder how without the strategies and tips here on the youtube channels. Facility looks incredibly tough to do in a short time. The one I'm coming so close to doing now is Archives in 1:20......my best is 1:24 and thought I did a perfect clean run.....wow is that one tough for me :D Some great tips here and other channels. I remember back in the day chasing OO6 all over the place wasting time and not knowing how much easier it is to just go back and forth through the two rooms and stop near the edge of the railing and peek down to give him a head shot. He'll say to "finish the job" much quicker then. I like the route you take for Archives but somehow I need to shave another four seconds of my time, and no idea how. Maybe Xbox doesn't allow you to run as fast? Some cheats are easy to do, but wow this one is tough.
Thanks for watching, man! Enjoyed reading your comment.. glad to hear you’re having a blast with goldeneye again. I’ve specifically heard heard that strafing may not be set up the same on XBox… but if you are strafing, just have to be even more aggressive and tight. Try to get to that Miskin room before the guard is out, should mean you’re good on time then. Lmk when you get it!
@@MarMaxGaming Hello there, and thank you for the quick reply. Stayed with it and got it shortly after with only a second to spare at 1:19 :D Until I watched yours I was doing a different route but yours is definitely the best to get to Mishkin when every second counts. Edit....sorry got mixed up with the route Acid Glow took and used his route to beat Archives, lol. I'm trying the brutal Facility which you really need so much good fortune to succeed. Countless times the darn guy in the corner in the security room with the door access button blows it up as you try to press it and get out of there, lol. Time wise it's definitely doable if things go right. I find the mine toss in the tunnel for the three guards works well to minimize damage trying to take them out by rifle. I've been lucky to have Doak in the labs a few times but not enough health to halt the onslaught of guards coming at you. Such a game changer when time is on the line.
Cradle is really easy if you take your time and let 006 blow himself up. Just follow him down to the control room, but as soon as you go down the stairs turn 90 degrees left, run to the wall, and stand with your back to it. At this point you should be lined up pretty much with the end of the stair rail and the opposing door. Shoot any guards coming down the stairs, you might have to turn left occasionally to shoot guards coming from the control room, and ~1:45 on the countdown you should hear a grenade clank followed by an explosion and objective B complete ~1:40 on the countdown. Then it's just a matter of opening the door if it's closed, stepping back a little to take out the right corner autogun, take out the left corner autogun from the doorway (shooting guards as required), destroying the console if it wasn't destroyed in the blast, then exit the stage by making your way to the lower platform as per usual. I can't confirm this, but it might be possible to lower your time even further by simply dying on the way out, as on my first cradle run on my most recent playthrough (xbox series x) I killed 006 the traditional way on the lower platform, but someone threw a grenade (006 martyrdom perhaps?) Which exploded, killing bond, and resulting in the cutscene where bond falls from the platform. I didn't get any end credits, but agent difficulty was ticked off when I went to run it again for the Gold PP7. For what it's worth, my best times on cradle are 1:24, 1:25, and 1:23 respectively on this playthrough (respective runs) once I remembered how to get Alec to blow himself up. P.s. there's a body armour behind the pylon at the start, but you don't need it, not even for 00 Agent Edit: wait, I ment 2:45 and 2:40 respectively. I thought the timer was 2 minutes, not 3
Going through this right now myself and i have tonsay frigate is pretty easy. I ended with 2:30 something. There is definitely an optimized path where you hit everything without needing to backtrack. I recomend entring the bridge from the other side as the hostage wont be blocking your line of site. Im currently stuck on statue park.
What makes Control level more difficult is that guards can break the glass beside the stairs when defending Nataya. When that happens. The player has to check both sides more regularly while checking the stairs. Usually I break the tables, except the one Nataya needs to use, to make it easier to see the guards. Facility level is definitely the hardest but thankfully one of the quickest missions to clear. I'm not a fan of the random chance with Dr Doak though. I could get a good run when he's not there. I like that he spawns in a random place but not during a very tight target time.
Typing this before watching the video for my own top 5 at least. I'm not sure there are 10 worth talking about, but I know: Train: Cutting the floor, and Natalya not dying - I never got this one. Caverns: Caverns was just long and I never got this one either Facility: Dr. Doak location, and some speedrun strats required for this one. I got it probably some Saturday morning in 1998 and it was a huge feeling of accomplishment. None of the others stick out in my mind. I guess I would round out the top 5 with Control and either Aztec or Jungle: just because they are pretty much the hardest remaining levels in my memory. Now I'll watch the video and see how I did. At #3 (Train) and I can confidently say the rest will be the same as mine. Nailed it.
Statue is a pain in the ASS. Theres no running and gunning, you literally shaving screeds of time through the corners and double tapping start for dialogue. Then the flight recorder isnt where its supposed to be.... ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
I got all except for Invincibility back when I had the N64. Getting that one wasn’t worth the trouble IMO, as you need Doak to be in one specific place (out of six possible places)
I recently got 100% on Goldeneye on the Xbox One port. I know it's easier there than on the original N64 version. That said, once you know the strategies, most of these weren't too bad to get. Facility is the worst to get, but still didn’t take me more than 10 attempts on each save slot. But I had help through YT tutorials. I can't imagine figuring these out and performing them on the original N64. Major respect to the OGs. As a kid I couldn't beat Surface 2 Agent alone, because I was too scared. 😂
Took me 15 hours to get all Xbox Achievements! Facility I agree was the hardest time trials! Archie’s was also a struggle! Cavern was okay just had to take my time and to converse ammo I only used the pistol the whole time.
I feel like I just watched the birth of a Goldeneye speedrunner. Great video bud, reminds me of when I was learning how to run the game. Go out and get yourself a 2:30 on Statue! That was my original goal and it took FOREVER for me to get there.
@@MarMaxGaming the fact that you've gotten all the cheats tells me that you're already excellent at the game, so I think you could do it :) as long as you have the patience. Speedrunning Goldeneye is a bit of a grind, but it's also really fun and exciting.
I coined the strafing of Val out on this stage as well as on streets although some dont strafe Val on streets out - On statue it will help almost up to 7 seconds if you strafe Val left and right and back up each time - He simply follows you out of his cargo container - This should help shave some seconds off which this video doesnt give hindsight on - GL Sterling Neblett
@@Sterlin18 holy moly well I'll be darned, never expected an actual legend to respond to my comment. If you'll allow me to gush for just a second Sterling, thank you for all your contributions to the Goldeneye speedrunning community. I don't run the game anymore, just casually sometimes, but you're legitimately a big reason I got into it in the first place. I hope you're doing well :)
I am currently in my 00Agent playtrough on Xbox and it's pretty hard - right now at Bunker 2, my least favourite level together with archives. Instead of trying again, I went for some target times. I actually felt, that surface 2 was pretty doable. At least after getting familiar with the level and knowing where to go. I kind of rushed through it, thank god for the fast strafing with the D-Pad. I also forgot about the one camera behind the one hut. Cradle was also okay - it's at least on Agent and a very short and also easy to navigate level. All in all, I feel, most 00 Agent times are pretty hard, just because the difficulty is hard. Well, but maybe only, because I am still getting used to it. Definitly agree with your top 3 though... Nice video!
I do feel bad for the people who played this for the original N64 cart. I played the game with a PS4 controller and it was still very challenging. Besides possibly the first ranked lower ranked levels, I agree with the entirety of the list. 15:16 That, or running up close to him and spray bullets at him, he can't hit you if your too close to him like every other enemy in the game. 22:40 I did not know that's what causes those enemies to appear behind you. Those enemies are the reason I failed multiple runs. It's one of the few major-ish flaws I dislike are the infinite reinforcements.
These times are insane when you really think about it. Could you imagine being the head of this evil organization, and you get a report like "Sir, Bond has infiltrated our ship, killed two dozen guards and rescued all the hostages. In four minutes." Or better: "Bond has escaped capture." "How!?" "He chopped a guard, got the helicopter black box, and left out a non-bulletproof window....took him all of a minute." "ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS."
I remember a high school classmate of mine unlocked all the cheats on the N64 version, before the tap-in codes were discovered. We saw him as a living God and it made him genuinely cool. And for future video suggestion: remake this video but for Perfect Dark. Now _that's_ a challenge. Apparently the invincibility cheat on PD was made deliberately easy just to give people a bit of hope and something nice to aim for, in recognition of the fact that the game eventually got too hard to be any fun. 00 Agent is a challenge for the right person. Perfect Agent is sadistic and just too much.
So pleased that Facility was your number 1, I have only had time to do the first 3 levels and their challenges so I have done it already, easy Street from now on then….yeah right!
My first clear time surviving on pave was a 2:03 // you can save a few seconds by intentionally spamming [negating your silencer] shooting the floor rapidly as you are coming down the restroom stairs// still need that damned keycard from the guard under the rest room but can immediately reach the console without waiting for the door to open because you summoned the guards... you'll likely be hit but it is almost a full 3 seconds faster// switch to the rifle - its rough, but after all, you are James Bond
Once did the target time on the villa from perfect dark just before my bus for school arrived. I knew the t.t. was exactly how long i had to get before my bus looped back around to my stop. It was either i get it or im late to school. That was a very satisfying bus ride.
For cradle theres a trick do get trevlyan down fast cuz he blows up in his own grenade like 30 seconds or smth but i forgot how but u dont g need to be a speedrunner
Completed all the time runs and have all cheats. Took me 3 days :). The train was not as bad as I remembered. Actually got train almost done on the first try . Shot in back running from train lol. Also managed to beat the Aztec level in the record time but under 00 agent wow. Unfortunately it doesn’t give you the cheat unless you do it under secret agent. Fun playing this again though. Wish they came up with a way to play multiplayer online but I’m happy for a direct port of the game to Xbox.
For me unlocking the Cradle cheat was just sheer luck, Trevelyan got himself with a grenade, Surface 2 after figuring out where i had to go for the mission objectives, it was fairly easy, just keep moving and shooting. Statue and Archives weren't all that bad, the same method i used in Surface 2. On Control it was pretty straight forward, it's just a matter of being quick enough, the drone guns can slow you down a bit especially in the beginning of the level. Train took me several tries to unlock the cheat, but i managed. Aztec was just hell.
Hardest cheat is obviously Facility, but that's basically because of Doak's random location more than anything, meaning endless restarts. Train for me is probably about on an even level of mind blowing difficulty for the cheat (especially if you haven't attempted it in years), with Caverns. God, the time I spent on those two levels, even without attempting the cheat times. It's funny, because whilst I'm in no doubt that Aztec is definitely the hardest 00 Agent level, I don't think SA in 9:00 is too bad, especially if you can do the Jaws skip. If I was thinking about the top five OVERALL hardest levels (and by that I mean combining how hard it is to beat on 00, and also how hard the cheat target time is), I'd probably have it as 5. Archives. 4. Aztec. 3. Control. 2. Train. 1. Caverns. I would however have Aztec at number one without the Jaws skip. Facility, while an incredibly hard cheat to acquire, is a piece of piss to finish on 00 otherwise. It'd be curious to hear what others think.
I got all of the cheats relatively easily, except Facility. I went through periods of trying and trying, giving up, then trying again, giving up, over years, and then one time a finally did it. Beat the time by about 1 second.
i thought aztec was gonna be alot harder than it was. got all achievements on xbox and id say caverns gave me the most trouble and control was the most time consuming...honestly the hardest part of all this wasnt the speed running but was remembering how to complete levels..like archives shooting a window to jump out off maybe i skipped past the reports but i dont know how i figured that out as a kid and depot had me running in circles..also shooting xenia to give you more time
Got Facility at 1:47 like 2 days ago. Took about 30 tries. Though I’m taking it level by so I’ve only beaten the time on Dam and Facility but it’s good to know I cleared the hardest one early.
Ye, I did the exact same. Its all easier from here. Hard, but easier. Only challenge around the save level is Aztec on 00 agent, just finishing that level to unlock Egyptian is nearly as hard as facility
Idk the hard part about facility is the rng, I feel some of the other levels are harder, as they can take a lot longer compared to 2min, and are hard all through out and very stressful to die at the end, at least with facility if u don't see doc, reset
For me, Facility wasn't the hardest just because you don't have to worry about hostages or Natalya getting in the way, you just have to be lucky that Dr. Doak shows up where you need him to and get used to playing the level much quicker. Time can be quite tight, but its easy to reset the level and play it again. The levels where you have to make sure other characters survive are just the worse in my opinion.
Love this vid. Goodwork! I'm replaying on SWITCH with the godawful controls and taking out that Turret in Depot is absolutely torturous. I'm already concerned about the other turrets in later levels. The only saving grace on Depot for me is how disgustingly sick the theme for that level is, I don't mind doing it over and over ha. Anyone know the best control scheme for Switch? They really f'd up on that but I've learned to make it work until these turrets. I'm just unlocking as I get to a level. So I still have top 5 minus facility. Minus Doak spawn, I didn't think it was that hard. I don't think the Spawn luck makes it challenging as much as annoying. Anyway great vid. And glad to see everyone is enjoying the newly-old journey. I saw a bunch of whiney hate vids, but the nostalgia is incredible replaying this I've happily spent hours.
Run down the bathroom stairs, and denotata a remote mine on the boxes to the right of the control room, it kills the 3 guards AFTER one of them opens the door to the room for you. Trick I've been using since 98' Important note to use the hotkey to detonate your mines. A+B I believe on default controls.
That’s a cool strat! I should’ve included some footage of doing a little bit of that, but I wanted another mine I guess and also screwed it up a couple times, seemed to not usually be too bad zipping in and out but I do like that strat.. it’s really creative and effective!
Solid list and great video! Personally I’d make two small changes. Surface 2 is ez imo once you have the lay of the land and know which order and direction of things. Bunker 1 is more difficult to make consistent so that is my spot 10. Or maybe depot. I’d also swap spot 1 and 3. And basically for the same reason; consistency. Yes facility is the hardest one in the top 3 I agree. But it is also a lot more fun. Yes there is the Doak RNG but other than that it’s a quick attempt and you can enjoy having noticeable progress as you learn to perfect the run. Train and caverns suck more because of the reasons mentioned in the video. 5-8 minute runs just to lose Natalya or the friggin Wade radio. Bloody hell.
Appreciate you watching, bro! Always cool to hear about other players’ experiences and tastes with the levels, I had my gameplay segmented and it basically came down to 1) how long it took and 2) how annoying/frustrating it was. I felt like a lot of these fit in the 10-12 spot, and those double 4:31’s were a factor
1) Caverns, dear god 2) Facility 3) Train 4) Archives 5) Statue The others really weren’t too bad. After clearing Control and Aztec on 00 agent they felt way easier on secret agent and all the agent levels were fairly easy. Egyptian with the golden gun goes quick once you know where baron samedi spawns I will say though that Aztec was really close for me. It only took 3 tries but I only cleared it by 3 seconds
As soon as Train showed up I groaned and then you said it. It was the hardest level to get through the first time on 00 and then while trying this I kept getting to the end and running out of time. So annoying.
Facility run completely depends on Doak's spawn point. This was awesome.
Based on this video, I booted up the game and played it for hours just to get that cheat. I finally did it! 🥵
@@rodneycooperjr3223congrats, dude! You earned it!🎉
How does this affect competitive runs (AGDQ etc.)? When records depend on RNG and where Dr. Doak appears, although the elite runners probably have workarounds for that.
Took me 25 years to get it, fired it up and got it first try last week after countless failures

A few helpful tips for anybody stuck on the Facility 00 agent time:
@@rodneycooperjr3223 Use 1 remote mine on those 3 guards as soon as the door opens, and u gucci!

@@TubeOfLaughes they’re real bastards alright 🤣🤣💪
I couldnt defeat Jaws for years in Aztec. Then I realized, if you stand right in front of him so that the distance of his gun tip is further than you, he literally cant hit you at all
that works for every enemy as well.
I thought the whole, "he can't hit you on the stairs" was pretty well known back in rhe day.
@@thephotoyak he can’t hit you across the stairs was the official guide book’s tip.
Never could beat aztec as a kid, would love to have another go
Jaws can't hit you point blank nor can he fire across the gap in the stairs.
Good luck.
control's always kinda an interesting one with a weird trick i don't think most players realize. every enemy that targets natalia spawns on the top floor from which there's only one stairway leading to the lower levels. there's also a balcony on the second floor overlooking natalia that juts out in a way that you can be close enough to natalia so that she completes her objective while allowing you to monitor this lone stairway and protecting her (you'll still have some guards spawning to your sides targeting you). as long as you don't miss a guard coming down the stairs, protecting natalia is relatively simple.

A couple of things I've found to help out:
You can bait Trevelyan to take himself out with a grenade
Yeah, I saw that Cradle technique in another video where you can peak over the edge and shoot Trevelyan and rather than follow him on the bottom , you can just run back to the opposite building and get him there. Didn't know about the crouch trick though, I may have to try that.
Ignore her comments, DO NOT ignore the sound of glass breaking lmao. That indicates there's a soldier on the 1st floor shooting at her from the corner.
@@TheThirdDaySH If you cover the stairs well enough without moving, you'll take out everyone that would have broken through the glass.
Bro as a 10 year old I was sure I'd never pass Control cheat in my life. I still haven't and I feel as sort of a failure lmao
@@YouNameItGaming much less the protect sequence, JESUS Christ
@@mathprodigy yeah that sucks, even on agent as whilst you're worrying about the guards running down the stairs it seems a couple of clever guards blow the glass on either side simultaneously and shoot Natalya to bits.
I've come to the conclusion (as I think i did 25 years ago) that positioning yourself near the glass is the way to go (panel closest to wall, either side) then focus on shooting guards as they come down stars either side as unless you have already blown the mainframes it remains the only way guards can get in.
That being said, I can't currently confirm the strategy works on secret and 00 agent difficulties
Edit: too right it was daunting back in the 90's, as not only did we have to deal with level difficulty, but we also had a blurry display, severe framerate dips, and the parts inside the analogue stick wearing down reducing the speed that we can move/turn
This vid brought me back 🙏. Awesome content man!
Thanks for the awesome video. Brings me back 25+ yrs to one of my favorite games of all time!
It was that stupid maze in Aztec that got me. You either knew someone who knew the path, or you had to brute-force it tile-by-tile and reset each time
Not watched it all yet.... FACILITY is an absolute nightmare.
Dr. Doak, is a BAD-CHUMP!
I remember playing 5-10 runs of facility before school each day trying to perfect it.

I did all this as a kid in the 90s and for me Train 00 agent was the hardest by far.
@@SarahConnor618 a worthy pick, that one is SO tough!
I clicked on this list just because I knew facility would be number 1 and I wanted to relive the trauma of finally making it through with decent health only for Doak to not be where I needed him 😭😭😭
I just finished facility oo agent in 1:56. My best time ever.
Yep after hour or so of trying i finally had a run and I left the lvls before the game checked the box for the gas tanks exploding, my motivation 📉
@MarMax Gaming Thanks, dude.
Archives for me, everything else was easy enough. My best was 1:19 and couldn't figure out how to draw better lol
Great video nostalgia is strong here
I only just learnt last few weeks that to completely make this level easier mainly protecting Natalya, don;t protect her from where she is standing, instead stand on the higher platform, the stairs where you went up to get the armour, apparently all the guards will come through through there and u easily pick them off till Natalya is done. no guards go downstairs or go through the glass
The levels of Frustration cant even be described.
yes! someone finally acknowledged this trick. it always annoyed me that no one seemed aware of it.
I did all of this as a kid in the 90s, I bet I can't do it as an adult
The hardest thing for me to do was complete The Control level on 00 Agent under a certain time to unlock the infinite ammo cheat
@@spaomalley I remember caverns giving me the hardest time, I recall that being the hardest time for me to clear.
Awesome man! I gotta pull out the old games now!
@spaomalley I friggin loved how Tooie went into random goldeneye segments, lol.
Perfect Dark had that same issues too. It's all about practice and patience. I have all the cheats of both games in real hardware.
Perfect Dark has officially been added to the pipe line 😏 which would you say is harder? Does PD get even more intense?
The one I'm coming so close to doing now is Archives in 1:20......my best is 1:24 and thought I did a perfect clean run.....wow is that one tough for me :D
Some great tips here and other channels.
P.s. there's a body armour behind the pylon at the start, but you don't need it, not even for 00 Agent
Edit: wait, I ment 2:45 and 2:40 respectively.
Man control center used to give me the greatest fits, trying to protect Natalya.
Can we take a moment to appreciate the bumping soundtrack they made for this game?
What makes Control level more difficult is that guards can break the glass beside the stairs when defending Nataya. When that happens. The player has to check both sides more regularly while checking the stairs. Usually I break the tables, except the one Nataya needs to use, to make it easier to see the guards.
Facility level is definitely the hardest but thankfully one of the quickest missions to clear. I'm not a fan of the random chance with Dr Doak though. I could get a good run when he's not there. I like that he spawns in a random place but not during a very tight target time.
Typing this before watching the video for my own top 5 at least. I'm not sure there are 10 worth talking about, but I know:
Train: Cutting the floor, and Natalya not dying - I never got this one.
Caverns: Caverns was just long and I never got this one either
Facility: Dr.
Nailed it.
Solid work brother good job good job
Fantastic video dude, thanks for making this. 👍
Statue is a pain in the ASS. Theres no running and gunning, you literally shaving screeds of time through the corners and double tapping start for dialogue.
Then the flight recorder isnt where its supposed to be....
ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!
great video! ah the nostalgia
I got all except for Invincibility back when I had the N64. Getting that one wasn’t worth the trouble IMO, as you need Doak to be in one specific place (out of six possible places)
Out of 7, only 3 work out for you.. I feel your pain!
I waited for this video ever since you mentioned it in your previous video
That Service 2 Music when Bond got caught scared the crap out of me when I was a child 😅
Aw thanks man, I appreciate this a lot! 2:30 on Statue lol good lord! All the tricks for that
@@MarMaxGaming the fact that you've gotten all the cheats tells me that you're already excellent at the game, so I think you could do it :) as long as you have the patience.
In four minutes."
Or better: "Bond has escaped capture." "How!?" "He chopped a guard, got the helicopter black box, and left out a non-bulletproof window....took him all of a minute." "ARE YOU GUYS SERIOUS."
You’re so right! When you frame it that way, he really does become the REAL James Bond… that’s bad ass.
Really solid video, just another reminder that I'll be screwed when doing this lol
I remember Train & Archives being the toughest ones for me. The Train part was super annoying because of the objectives with Nataya.
Great vid!
Once did the target time on the villa from perfect dark just before my bus for school arrived. I knew the t.t. was exactly how long i had to get before my bus looped back around to my stop. It was either i get it or im late to school. That was a very satisfying bus ride.
15 suits of body armour and a needle in both eyes full of adrenaline
Yep that sums up N64 Jaws
Great video mate 👌
Thanks man, I appreciate you watching!
Heck yeah, bro! Way to persevere!!
i thought aztec was gonna be alot harder than it was. got all achievements on xbox and id say caverns gave me the most trouble and control was the most time consuming...honestly the hardest part of all this wasnt the speed running but was remembering how to complete levels..like archives shooting a window to jump out off maybe i skipped past the reports but i dont know how i figured that out as a kid and depot had me running in circles..also shooting xenia to give you more time
Got Facility at 1:47 like 2 days ago.
Never got Caverns.... only cheat code I didn't accomplish. Great list.
@@darinlunderman8063 for sure, hostages and escorts can be tough! So it sounds like Jungle, Bunker 2, and Control are your hardest?
Trick I've been using since 98'
Important note to use the hotkey to detonate your mines. A+B I believe on default controls.
That’s a cool strat! I should’ve included some footage of doing a little bit of that, but I wanted another mine I guess and also screwed it up a couple times, seemed to not usually be too bad zipping in and out but I do like that strat.. it’s really creative and effective!
@@MarMaxGaming Part of what makes the game interesting so many years later, dozens of way to do the same encounter!
The facility level cheat unlock will require James Bond to become as fast and powerful as both Barry Allen and superman combined
I beat Train in 4:37. My most difficult level is Caverns in 9:30. I’m constantly getting 10:30. I’ve gotten it in 9:20 but it’s few and far between.
1) Caverns, dear god
2) Facility
3) Train
4) Archives
5) Statue
The others really weren’t too bad. After clearing Control and Aztec on 00 agent they felt way easier on secret agent and all the agent levels were fairly easy. Egyptian with the golden gun goes quick once you know where baron samedi spawns
I will say though that Aztec was really close for me. It only took 3 tries but I only cleared it by 3 seconds
Already knew number 1 before starting the video 😂
As soon as Train showed up I groaned and then you said it. It was the hardest level to get through the first time on 00 and then while trying this I kept getting to the end and running out of time. So annoying.
