I've been agnostic and having a great deal of doubts for the past years, although raised in a catholic home. Your videos make me wanna come back. I hope there'll come more young priests like you, with open minds and a speech that touches our hearts in a different way.
Who knows Matheus, perhaps that's His plan for you
POPE BENEDICT XVI: “God wants your friendship. And once you enter into friendship with God, everything in your life begins to change. As you come to know him better, you will find you want to reflect something of his infinite goodness in your own life. You become attracted to the practice of virtue. You begin to see greed and selfishness and all the other sins for what they really are, destructive and dangerous tendencies that cause deep suffering and do greater damage, and you want to avoid falling into that trap yourselves. You begin to feel compassion for people in difficulties and you are eager to do something to help them. You want to come to the aid of the poor and the hungry, you want to comfort the sorrowful, you want to be kind and generous. And once these things begin to matter to you, you are well on the way to becoming saints.”
As a Hindu, this was absolutely amazing as an explanation. The love that is being conveyed into my heart is genuine and tangible. You did it really well. Thank you Father, though we are from separate followings, all leads to God.

I love that you like learning about our faith. I want to point out, on your mention of all paths leading to God. This is what specifically makes us different. Commenting to feed the algorithm
Great video for explaining the core tenets of Christianity in a concise manner. And it doesn't delve into Catholic specific theology either, so it's useful across denominational lines as well...
Titus 3:3 KJV "For we ourselves also were sometimes foolish, disobedient, deceived, serving divers (many different) lusts and pleasures, living in malice and envy, hateful, and hating one another. 4 But after that the kindness and love of GOD our SAVIOR toward man appeared, 5 not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to HIS mercy HE saved us, by the washing of regeneration (washed clean and covered by the blood of CHRIST of all sin by being born again/made alive by the indwelling of the HOLY SPIRIT), and renewing of the HOLY GHOST (restoring/renewing our soul NOT sacrificing CHRIST over and over again in an unbloody sacrifice of the mass); 6 which HE shed on us abundantly through JESUS CHRIST our SAVIOR; 7 that being justified by HIS GRACE (forgiven of all sins by GOD's free gift of grace through faith), we should be made heirs according to the hope of eternal life."
Father Casey, this was nice primer for those who are completely unfamiliar with Jesus. Hopefully, it will lead those who are not acquainted with Christ to want to know him more. What is particularly sad is that many people who identify as Christians are ignorant of these details. To say they are "culturally Christians" gives them too much credit. They are like the naive kid who wears a Che Guevara T-Shirt, because they think it looks cool, without knowing anything about the man, his deeds, or his crimes.

Father, I've Got a question about the Afterlife that I've tried to get a definitive answer to. If we don't to see our family in Heaven, will we be forced to? I don't care to see my family in Heaven or be welcomed by them when it's my time. I'd rather see someone else at the end of that light. So i hope Jesus will understand and allow it because this is something i worry about alot.
Father, a sticking point for some is the belief that He didn’t really exist. Have you made a video about proving the historical Jesus?
The month of may is going to end this month devoted to rosary i was expecting from father a video on mariology
But disappointed it is.
Is there some way to explain the trinity, in a simplfied form, which is not wrong? I have struggled with this for years...
Pls help me understand, when Jesus said, “My God, My God why has thou forsaken me?”, who was he crying out to?
Jesus was referring to the Psalms. I can't recall which one at the moment. He was calling out to the Father at that moment. In that moment is where the sins of all were placed upon Jesus' shoulders and God the Father could not look upon it.
Even a Christian cannot brush aside the worship of Jehovah as God. In Revelation 1:5 the Son of God called himself "Jesus Christ, 'The Faithful Witness.'" When on earth as a man he was a Jew an Israelite, to whose nation the words of Isaiah 43:10 were written: "'You are my witnesses, 'is the utterance of Jehovah, 'even my servant whom I have chosen." Jesus demonstrated that he was a faithful and true witness of Jehovah God. His genuine disciples today must be the same kind of witnesses Jehovah's.
Father, can two new converts baptize each other, or must we wait for the opportunity to be baptized by a priest(leaving the country, since it is illegal to convert others).
In an emergency circumstance, we believe an atheist can validly baptize an atheist if they intend to do what the church does and perform it right. But apart from danger of death, you should seek the opportunity to be baptized in ordinary manner with a priest. I’ll pray for your situation.
Can you please explain the part people say that catholics worship saints bc im a catholic but i wanna do what God wants Jesus loves us all btw
People (mostly Protestants) say that we worship saints because we pray to them. But it isn’t a good argument, the original definition of the word ”pray” means ”to ask”. So when we pray to the saints, we ask them for their intercession, we ask them to pray for us to God. This is very different to worship offered to God alone.
And yeah, God wants us to ask the saints for intercession.
Did Jesus go to heaven on that same third day or did he do it later? Because in my country we celebrate the ascencion day a few weeks after easter I think.
He went back to heaven on Ascension day.
The ascension is 40 days after the resurrection according to Acts 1:3
I have a question:
Mary is the mother of Jesus and also the Mother of God. There was sufficient theological debate in Ephesus about this matter.
However,
Is Joseph the (adoptive, earthly) Father of Jesus? So, can we say that Saint Joseph is also the Father of God?
I am not trying to be a heretic, it came to me that question.
Holy Mary is the mother of Jesus , Daughter of God the Father,Most holy eternal Virgin bride of Holy Spirit
St Joseph and Holy Mary was Selected for a reason by God himself,So if God gave them that positions we should respect it❤
The interesting thing about calling Mary the mother of God is its christological implication, that the child this woman gave birth to IS God. So in a sense, I may call St Joseph the adoptive father of God. But whereas Mary was the mother of Jesus through generation, Joseph was only a father legally.
This should be interesting :)
Edit: 1:18 I heard that an analogy of Trinity should be avoided because it’s pointless and leads to error because the trinity is out of the world?
What do u think of that Fr Casey
I think the idea is that each of these analogies explains some aspect of how the Trinity works, even if inherently incomplete?
Analogies are, by definition, analogous. They never fully capture the thing we are seeking to describe. They always require qualifiers, as I have added, but they are essential for beginners.
@@BreakingInTheHabit
Thank you :)
We are finite, God is infinite.
We can only speak of God in terms of analogy, etc. We just have to acknowledge that anything we attempt to say of Good will fall short.
Even the term Father requires some qualification.
But it does not mean that we should abandon any attempt - otherwise, how can we communicate to others what we know about God?
They are deep inside the world...
Do one on the holy spirit, i don't get what the hell that is.
The Holy Spirit is indeed kind of confusing. One analogy for the Trinity is how we say “god is love,” but for love to be, there is a lover, a beloved, and the love between them. God the father actively loves, god the son passively is loved, and god the Holy Spirit proceeds forth from this love. The Holy Spirit speaks through prophets for instance. He works in us to affect grace from the father through the son. As I said, confusing, and I agree a video would be good
The 'ice on the pan' is probably not a good way to explain Trinity. I believe that can be misinterpreted as 'modalism'.
All analogies are wrong to some extent. This video is clearly for beginners.
No analogy can verify a logical contradiction.
There is very little that we know about Jesus, compared to some other known figures of the day, e.g., emperors, generals, philosophers, writers, historians, even some administrators like Pontius Pilate and high priests of the Jerusalem Temple like Caiaphas. The first century Rome is pretty well documented. What we know about Jesus is limited to the four Gospels of the New Testament of which only a small portion, not even precisely defined, can be viewed as historically reliable in contrast to accumulated layers of mythology. So, what we can say is that
(1) Jesus grew up in Nazareth.
(2) He must have visited the nearby Greek town of Sepphoris in his youth, where his mother, Mary, came from, and where his father, Joseph, worked as a tecton on rebuilding the town after fire or earthquake or some such calamity (siege?).
(3) At about 30 he became involved with John the Baptizer's movement and possibly with Essenes.
(4) After the death of John the Baptizer he took off on his own and had a small group of followers.
(5) Eventually he wound up in Jerusalem where he brawled at the Temple and vandalized some stands of "money changers," thus drawing the attention of the Sadducees.
(6) Subsequently he was arrested, accused in front of Pontius Pilate of having called himself "king of the Jews," and crucified.
(7) He was claimed to have risen from the dead three days after he was taken off the cross, for which there are many natural and unnatural explanations.
My personal favourite is that he was taken off the cross after only a few hours while still alive, and recovered in the nearby empty tomb under the administrations of Joseph of Arimathea's physician. I also believe that Joseph of Arimathea might have bribed the Roman soldiers or even Pontius Pilate himself to get Jesus off the cross early, i.e., after a few hours only. Normally it took days of agony for the condemned to die.
That's about all we know. There are some sayings and teachings, quoted in the Gospels, attributed to Jesus that some consider highly likely to be authentically his. From these and other materials, e.g., the Dead Sea Scrolls, Josephus, Talmud, etc., we may infer that Jesus' own message bore some similarity to that of Hillel the Elder and Essenes while being original in terms of delivery and story telling, viz. the parables.
P.S. I really like the Breaking in the Habit videos. The priest is very nice.

How is Jesus a descendant of David? Mary was a Virgin. Joseph was a descendant of David. Please correct me.
So was Mary.
Father Casey I usually love what you do but the analogy you gave the trinity falls into modalism
It only does if you take an analogy as dogma, which I didn’t do in this video. All analogies bear some truth, but all analogies fail to capture the fullness of God. We need to be careful how we use that word “heresy.”
Just like biblical and historical evidence proves that jesus and his apostles were vegatarians biblical and historical evidence also proves that the trinity, atonement, original sin and hell are very late misinterpretations and are not supported by the early creed hence its not a part of Christianity I pray that Allah swt revives Christianity both inside and out preserves and protects it and makes its massage be witnessed by all people but at the right moment, place and time
The secred text of the Bible says ye shall know them by their fruits
So too that I say to my christian brothers and sisters be fruitful and multiply

Those were a lot of non-Trinitarian heresies you described there in the beginning such as Arianism, Partialism, and Modalism.
They’re analogies, not heresies. All language that describes God is as much wrong as it is correct. If you based your entire theology on those analogies that would be problematic, but to say that they reflect a part of the truth is how analogies work.

@@EricJuly-uc1fi unfortunately there is not sufficient evidence to verify a historical figure.
@@EricJuly-uc1fi Btw. There are scholars who say he wasn't a real person.
@@rick984 And those scholars are in a fringe minority. There is more evidence for Jesus's existence as a human than practically anyone else at that time.
@@micmikeman6865 So what. The argument was there are scholars that claim he existed and I countered that argument.
Hello Fr. Casey, I love your content. Thank you for your UA-cam Apostolate. Would you mind corrected or clarifying something for me?
I was taught that there is a subtle distinction between God the Son and the person of Jesus Christ. That is, God the Son always existed as He is the Second Person of the Holy Trinity, fully God, but without a human nature. By contrast, the Person of Jesus Christ is One Person with two natures, fully God, specifically God the Son, and fully human. The Person of Jesus Christ did not exist until the Annunciation.
At the 2:00 mark in your video, you state that "Jesus was never created by God and there was never a time that He did not exist." As I was taught (which I am seeking clarification for), it would read "God the Son was never created by God and there was never a time that He did not exist." And then at about 7:35, you explain that His human nature is something that was created and at one point did not exist. So, I hope you can see how I'm a little confused.
Allow me to be the first to admit that the Mystery of the Incarnation can never be fully understood. Thanks for your time and God bless you!
It’s a good presentation but ahhh you young people…Jesus taught repentance “Go and sin no more” not “Honey I’ve made everything rosey and I’m a really tolerant guy I would never want anyone to be held accountable.” I’m not an authoritarian person but I see nothing in Scripture indicating we have license. Hopefully you didn’t actually imply that.
The outcome of the Flood proved that Noah and his family were the only ones who had the right religion. History shows that Jesus and his disciples were the only ones in their day practicing right religion. And a study of the Bible will prove the same about Jehovah's witnesses today.
That's modalism, Patrick!
Analogies are analogous. They are like the thing we are describing in one way but not like the thing we are describing in another. It’s like calling God “Father.” Surely you don’t think that’s a heresy?

Oh, but don’t worry, you can just say that’s an “imperfect model” and save yourself. It’s funny though that all we ever get are “imperfect models.” What’s the real explanation then?! Can’t actually explain it?? That’s because the truth is it’s all illogical, made-up b.s.
I don’t think you understand how heresy works. Analogies-all analogies-by definition, are partially correct and partially incorrect. I assume you refer to Jesus as “the Son of God.” Congratulations, by your logic you’re a heretic. God can’t have a son because God is not a physical being. It’s an analogy, something that captures pet of the truth. If you profess it as dogma, that’s a heresy, but using analogous language is part of being human.
Overall, the hubris of your comment concerns me. You clearly don’t know how theology works but you felt a need to accuse a priest of a very serious accusation. Maybe rethink what you’re doing.
@@BreakingInTheHabit well, I don’t think you understand how the Trinity works, otherwise you would have explained it better without having to resort to an imperfect analogy, so, let’s call it even.
I agree I am a heretic by my own logic. I also agree that anyone who tries to apply logic to the concept of the trinity as adopted by the Chalcedonian churches would be a heretic because it doesn’t make sense.
If you can explain it to me without resorting to an appeal to authority fallacy, I’m all ears.
