From what I can gather from this mix, is that there are at least 5 different mercyful fate songs
1 - Satan's fall
2- curse of the Pharaoh's
3- corpse without a soul
4 - into the coven
5- evil
All worth reacting to it.

And these songs are all on their first album "Melissa" released in 1983. And I still own the LP, wich I bought in 1983.
Yes they are all from Melissa. It wasn't that hard to pick up on them. I personally don't like this mix.
Indeed, there are 5 different songs in this medley, all from the Melissa album - only 2 shy from using the whole album, lol : Black Funeral and At The Sound Of The Demon Bell (aka Halloween)
If you really want to be through and precise, you could add a 6th section to the medley by acknowledging the reprise of Satan's Fall at the end. :-)
EDIT : Whoops! My bad - some MF fan I am, I mistakenly attributed A Corpse WIthout Soul as being from the Melissa album (it was from the EP)... so that means 3 songs were not used from Melissa, the third song being the bloody title track itself, Melissa, lol.
How could I cock that up so bad? :-P

Go look up The Brats "1980" album. A couple godfathers of metal made one of the best punk albums ever.
Garage Inc. is one of my fave metallica albums. A double CD of covers of songs by bands they liked/influenced by.
My favorites off of Garage Inc., besides the Merciful Fate medley: the Diamondhead covers "Am I Evil", "Helpless" and "The Prince", Budgie's "Breadfan".
Also, in more recent years they did a similar cover medley of Dio (Rainbow) songs which is great, called "Ronnie Rising"
Which is about as close as the Garage Inc. sound as they got, especially with 'Kill The King', which is my favorite part of the 'Medley'.
James refers to this song as "12 minutes of Satan" (when they played this live in New York, I believe)
Garage Inc is like exploring the genetic code of Metallica. One song that I find fascinating is their cover of Queen's Stone Cold Crazy. James played it with Queen at the Freddie Mercury tribute and it was stunning. The really mind blowing thing about the two versions is that they are almost identical. Metallica absolutely kill but it makes you realise SO DID QUEEN! Brian May's top string Thrash riffing is so clearly fundamental to James Hetfield's guitar style. As I often say, it is this kind of thing that fascinates me - being able to trace the heritage of the music we love piece by piece. And where does it lead back to? Elvis? No. Robert Johnson, Leadbelly and the other largely forgotten souls who had the blues and unknowingly gave birth to almost all modern music. Imagine if nobody had recorded these artists on tape, often by the side of a road, would we even have bands like Metallica? Scary thought!🤔😱
Man, the "secret man" that writes all lyrics for King Diamond - is..... Guess who? Lol. King Diamond. And also King Diamond wrote all lyrics for Mercyful Fate. So there are no mysteries here - the "backstage genius" is the on-stage genius, and King Diamond is a genius.Lars Ulrich and King Diamond are both from Denmark so - they know each other in person and Metallica as a band did some gigs with Mercyful Fate.

I read he also wrote most of the instruments, probably during the Solo career; he doesn't play them live though-- I think he was always holding that (real?) skeleton or something; hard to remember.

They actually met in the Don't Break The Oath era when MF lent Metallica their studio in Denmark that's when the friendship was formed
This song was my introduction to King Diamond and Mercyful Fate. I went to the local record store and picked up Don't Break the Oath and the guy behind the counter handed me House of God and told me that I would want that one as well. Absolutely amazing.
Don't break the oath is absolutely one of my all time favourite album's, Mercyful Fate Is just one of the best bands even tho I don't agree with the satanic views at all, the music is still absolutely phenomenal

Their cover of Motörhead’s “Stone Dead Forever” off this album is 🔥🔥🔥.
King Diamond records are basically horror stories in album form,
the whole album tells a particular story, so one King Diamond song out of context might not make alot of sense lyrically,
as far as this song, its a medley of Mercyful Fate songs

Love Mercyful Fate music, their riffs are amazing. Love the Garage Inc too, incredible covers, but this mix was one of my favorites... Budgie, Misfits, Killing Joke and Diamond head covers were great too.

Seen them 5 times live. 3 of those after this double LP, I’m pretty sure they usually play at least one song from it. Luckily for me it has been a different song each of those 3 times. Last time a couple years ago it was “Whiskey in the Jar”. One of the many reasons why Metallica kicks ass.

Speaking of Mercyful Fate (MF), and King Diamond's (KD) solo stuff (which is kinda funny if you know what's up, in that King just wasn't pleased with the direction MF was going in at the time...which ended up disbanding the band...temporarily...until they got back together years later for several more albums) is that their music is very progressive. Lots of time and rhythm changes. Their music was originally classified as Black Metal, but once the Norwegian Black Metal bands took over the mantra in the 90s, Black Metal became synonymous with the Norwegian style.

Mercyful Fate is a Danish band. Lars Ulrich, also from Denmark, brought these songs to Metallica.

Out of all the songs on CD 1, THIS is the best one, imho. Ass-kicker from start to finish. It's, also, my favorite.
King writes ALL the lyrics for both Mercyful Fate and his solo project.
He wrote/writes most of the music, but other band members have made excellent contributions, including Hank Shermann, Michael Denner, and Andy LaRocque.
The song is actually a medley of different Mercyful Fate songs.
Their cover of Iron Maidens' Remember Tomorrow is amaze, it's on their last albums bonus CDs, which I own :)

Mercyful Fate was from Denmark... their lead singer King Diamond wrote controversial lyrics about satanism and horror fiction. They debuted in the early 80's before Metallica even had a record out... their 1983 album 'Melissa' and "Don't break the oath" from 1984 were incredible heavy metal albums. However, the band split in 1985 cos guitarist Hank Shermann wanted to explore more 'funk' rock music... the band renamed themselves King Diamond and released their debut album 'Fatal portrait' in 1986. The 2nd album 'Abigail' in 1987 was what made King Diamond a success, their first album w/ a full concept story based on macabre horror fiction.
Mercyful Fate did reunite in 1993 for the album 'In the shadows' (Lars Ulrich of Metallica played drums on 1 song) and they released 5 albums in the 90's before parting ways again in 2000... King Diamond kept recording solo albums as well.
King Diamond is working on a new album due out soon... Mercyful Fate was planning to play shows in 2020 when covid-19 hit.
Original Mercyful Fate bassist Timi Hansen, who also played on the 1st 2 King Diamond albums, passed away in 2019 from cancer (R.I.P 😷)

You can't go wrong with most of Mercyful Fate and King Diamond's stuff. I personally recommend "Welcome Princes of Hell" as that it one that seems to get overlooked.
Love this reaction! If you like this I highly recommend one of the live performances where they get King and some other members onstage with them, and all just rock out to some of the greatest licks ever recorded, with the guys who recorded them.

If you really would like to go left field on this album check out Turn the Page, a Bob Seger cover or Tuesday's Gone by Lynyrd Skynyrd. Both are very different from what Metallica normally plays but they are both brilliant.

Garage Inc dropped when I was in 8th grade which led me into an 8 yr stretch of listening to exclusively Metallica. It got me through growing up with the most aggressive, violent, evil rural juveniles you can imagine...it gave me the animosity to fight back

I love everything Metallica did in the 90s, the 80s was their best era musically speaking but the 90s were also special for Metallica music

Btw if you like James' vocals, you really should check out 'Beatallica' (even Metallica likes them) They mesh Metallica and Beatles, music/lyrics/songs/song titles, and they are good at it, ..The Thing That Should Not Let it Be, Fuel on the Hill, Garage Days Night, .. (the lead singer sounds just like James. They'v toured, and played at metal festivals, around the world. The Beatles had 'The White Album, Metallica had 'The Black Album, Beatallica has 'The Grey Album'/'Beatallica'. These guys are legit musicians
