I would suggest you see a live version of one of his songs. "Sleepless Nights" would be a great place to start
You guys are listening to talent, a talent that has never been duplicated. If you aree like me, after hearing that album, you just wanted more and more. King is an accomplished orchestator, singer, performer an presence. His band are top tier as well. Andy Laroque and Michael Denner are unrivaled in their guitar craft as well. Enjoy!
As far as the band during the Abigail era, it was Andy La Roque-guitar…Michael Denner-Guitar….Tim Hansen(RIP)-Bass….Milkkey Dee-Drums….I tried, among many others at the show to shriek out King’s vocals at the last show I saw him with the KD band….such an awesome experience 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
Abigail is Victorian Gothic horror concept album. It was way ahead of its time. King Diamond is the moniker but all world class musicians in the band others mentioned already. Amazing feat to stay really heavy with so much going on.

I'm 52 and a huge fan and saw King Diamond in this little ass club in Providence Ri in the early 90's. I'm blanking on the name of the club. Anyone from the area will know it. It had the bubble window!!
I first saw him in ‘88 for the Them tour, it was in Pine St Theater in Portland Oregon. Flotsam and Jetsam opened for him.
It was the Living Room in Providence that you’re referring to. I saw KD there in ‘88 on the “Them” tour with Flotsam and Jetsam opening.
Incredible guitar works by Andy LaRocque aka Anders Allhage and Michael Denner. Drummer Mikkey Dee later joined Motorhead and Scorpions. Bass player on this album were former Mercyful Fate member Timi Hansen RIP. Denner were also in Mercyful Fate with King Diamond aka Kim Bendix Petersen. Michael Denner later got together with old Mercyful Fate band mate Hank Shermann in Denner/Shermann. A band that sounded very much like Mercyful Fate. Both of them were in Denmark's first metal band Brats that originated from the punk scene. Only released one album called 1980. While preparing for their second album they hired singer King Diamond from another Danish band Black Rose. The record company didn't like the songs and wanted them to be more commercial so the band broke up and was later turned into Mercyful Fate. BTW the keyboards are played by engineer Roberto Falcao
The Album Abigail is the very first concept album of it’s kind. Every song is a chapter of a scary story.
I think any of the later tracks of fatal portrait would be a better introduction to king. the songs are actual songs instead of chapters in a musical story.
you know how satisfying it is to watch the faces of people who are hearing him for the first time. ive been listening to this since 8th grade 1986. and yes he can sing you a lullaby check out "A Visit from the Dead" its off the album "Conspiracy". the musicality of his musicians are beyond comparison to anyone. the albums "Them" and "Conspiracy" are back to back all one story. amazing. The Puppet Master is another amazing story/album. and The Eye about a witch convent . then there the album The Graveyard he has to put disclaimers on his albums telling people this is fictional and to not try to recreate any scenario in the story.
King Diamond is considered Gothic Metal and even though his vocals are a bit unusual, it grows on you. His albums are pretty much all concept albums and over the years, has put out really epic masterpieces which Abigail is a part of. "Them" and its sequel "Conspiracy" are truly great albums as well. His original band "Mercyful Fate" has some awesome albums as well.
I like this, seeing people who either don't listen to metal, aren't familiar with the scene, or are just getting into metal react to bands and musicians I like because it reminds me of the electric feelings I got from listening to those same bands and musicians for the first time.
King Diamond is the vocalist and has an incredible range. He was and is the Vocalist for the band Mercyful Fate as well. They just did a reunion tour this past fall. His songs are quite gothic themed. Check out some of his live shows: Halloween or Sleepless Nights!
his records are stories. he sings the parts of the various characters, and yes he is great in a live setting. saw him in 1988, awesome show
My mate had this album cover all over his motorbike ...what a voice and live he is the same ...great vid guys.
You should watch his live version of the song Halloween. At 66 years old he still sings with his full vocal range after decades of performing at this level of energy.
That Is probably my most hated song he does (other than “No Presents for Christmas”). It’s too corny...

To react to a King Diamond track from a drum perspective and not start with "Welcome Home" should be a crime. Mikkey Dee played on the old studio albums, and he was the one to beat back then.

It should give you creeps. Are y’all reading the lyrics? I’ve been listening to that album since the 80s. I can recite the whole thing from first song to last. I make it a habit to listen to it every year around Halloween. It’s great stuff. An excellent horror story
I like freaky music. I saw KD at the Mayhem fest once, it was spooky as hell! On a side note, my favorite "metal" band now is Napalm Death. But their vox are not intelligible. But their lyrics are bold, against war and racism, and supportive of Reproductive rights and animals. Most metal is not openly leftist but ND (U.K.) lays it all out

king diamond was always ridiculous! music is ok but this singing in different voices sucks so bad! This is children's metal and always was but i was a child at that time and rather listen to running wild, accept, helloween and stuff like that before i went into thrash. well, concept alums suck in general. king diamond himself is a very sweet man and creative but don't like his music, sorry
