Welcome to the world of Mercyful Fate! To understand them you need to think of their music as unique in the sense of song structure. They are telling a story not just with lyrics but the musical composition as well. Every riff and solo is creating a visual. Its a horror novel with a soundtrack. Forget about traditionally listening to the music and think of it more as a visual in your mind. A truly one of a kind experience. Enjoy!

Most of the songs were written in the very early 80s and I would say that they cross over into the realm of progressive. Lots of changes very complicated stuff. But definitely rooted in the metal of that you're a Judas Priest, Maiden, Sabetha cetera. Mercyful Fate were innovators in a big big way. Diamond tone down some of the Prague elements and move more into a straight-forward horror metal when he left the band but as you heard the King Diamond band is fucking awesome too. Best metal band out of Denmark ever. King Diamond aka Kim Bendix Petersen, Hank Shermann aka Rene Krolmark and Michael Denner on guitars, Timi Hansen on bass and Kim Ruzz aka Kim Thyge Jensen on drums. Were part of the first wave of black metal in the Early 80's alongside Venom and Bathory. Inspired bands like Metallica, Testament, Death, Slayer and Exodus. Mercyful Fate started int he early 1980s. Later broke upon the mid 80s. King Diamond then went on to continue With King Diamond as a band for concept albums. Mercyful Fate had comeback in the 1990s until 1999. King Diamond continues his King Diamond band since the 1980s to today 2021 with a upcoming album for both Mercyful Fate and King Diamond in 2022.
The "Shermann/Denner" solo just means the first guy does his solo, and as soon as he is done, the next guy picks up without a break in between. Sometimes it means they bounces back and forth with short "mini solos". If you can detect each guitar's sound/pitch, you can tell where it one ends and the next begins, otherwise it just sounds like it all blends together.
This band is great, a lot of history with King Diamond and Merciful Fate, King Diamond started with a band Black Rose in the 70's. The first time I heard Diamond I wasn't that much into it, I was more Metallica, Slayer, Megadeth, Anthrax the big 4. Me and my buddy was watching Headbangers ball one night and Merciful Fate song came on from the album in the shadows, Egypt is the song and after that it was on, we both bought the CD the next day. And now I have all CDs from old to new, probably at least 25 to 30 CDs. King Diamond and Merciful Fate all together. We had tickets one time to see Diamond in Atlanta Georgia, unfortunately he had some health issues and couldn't perform 😢. He also battled cancer for sometime recently and didn't know if he was gonna keep jamming. He's clear from cancer now 🤘 and I hear he's making a new album next year with his band and Merciful Fate. Also when we were waiting for a new album back in the day. Always he would have a Merciful Fate album coming out with in about a 6 month period. So when we got our new King Diamond, we automatically knew Merciful Fate was in the making of a new album as well. Also Lars Ulrich played drums on the song Return of the Vampire, Merciful Fate in the Shadows, The Old Oak Tree is a awesome song from the same album. King Diamond quit singing for Fate at one time, don't really know the reason why, and they tried to make a new band called Force of Evil, the music was good, but that's like taking Dave Mustaine from Megadeth and putting in a different singer, didn't work for me, although I do still have the CD LoL. I hope this was informative and keep rocking guys. 🤘😆🤘.
King Diamond has been my favorite musician since discovering him and Mercyful Fate. I love seeing anyone appreciate him and the band's talent. Fun fact about this song, way back when live, the solos later in the song were decided "live" - so while they were playing the rhythms in between, they would figure out who was more in tune based on the bass player's guitar and whoever was more in tune would play the solo while the other guy tweaked his tuning off stage then come back out to do the next solo. They had to figure all that out live while playing the show.
Mercyful Fate performed this track live for John Peel on BBC Radio 1 back in the 80's and it was damn near CD perfect. An incredible performance that someone has uploaded to YT.
Had a cousin who actually lived in the same apartment (on top of) King Diamond (Kim Bendix) when he was still living in Hvidovre/Denmark 🇩🇰 (Back in late 70es/early 80es ) Sadly im too young to have met him in person back then (I'm born in '85 😆 so) But my cousin got to chill with Kim and the gang (both when Kim was in Brats (punk band) and later when they made Merciful Fate.. Idk if he still got pictures of that time tho
All over the place is just what Needs to be heard more than ever these days. This progressive opera metal is creative and can show up any radio friendly b.s. music these days. It is good to be challenged.
Close friends with Metallica, the BBC sessions version of this was covered in a medley by Metallica. OG band members. One of the first wave black metal bands, Nordic band members used stage names :-
When I want to get hyped I listen to King Diamond - Dressed in White. It's basically one awesome riff after the other with Mikkey Dee drumming. It never gets mentioned anywhere.
If you want to hear the ‘60s band that inspired this, check out Coven’s album _Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls,_ especially the first and third tracks, the songs called “Black Sabbath” and “Coven in Charing Cross” (although the whole album is a must-listen, I think those two songs have the most lyrical similarities).
Greetings from Helsinki, Finland. I saw that song live here in Helsinki 1997 at Tavastia Club. Oh man what a gig. I am huge King Diamond fan since 1987.
I'm fucking so glad you finally listened to Mercyul Fate. Gotta love King Diamond's work through and through. The most underrated of legends. Thanks for the vid! The genre is technically classified as First Wave Black Metal. King is a big inspiriation for the Black Metal genre and extreme metal in general.
At first I thought he said, "who's Karen?" LoL. "waiting at the dollar store / for Karen to arrive / A refund from the manager / Don't you even try." And Mercyful Fate is legendary -- your best reactions yet!
Mercyful Fate was King Diamond's first band. They put out 2 albums in the early 80s. Then they broke up due to creative differences. But reformed in 1993 and put out 5 more albums up until 1999. However King Diamond formed his own solo project band after he left MF. And he put out 5 albums from 1986 to 1990, then 7 more from 1995 to 2007. He's been having health issues thru the 2010s, but is working on a new album currently.
And now you have heard one of the greatest bands of all time! Mercyful Fate influenced other bands like Metallica. But the shifts in their style and lyrics were their trademarks. I grew up listening and still listen to them. We saw them in 2014 in Austin, TX and met people from all over the world who were attending the show. One guy next to me called it a spiritual performance. And yes that is really King Diamond's voice. The crowd was so charged that we were lifted off the ground and were moved 50 ft in some other direction. There was nothing we could do. It was like nothing we have ever experienced before or after. We loved it! ua-cam.com/video/LmEBODskhUQ/v-deo.html

in regards to the touring and crowd reaction stuff you were talking about: when i was in college (almost 20 years ago), there was an old head that used to party with us and he was telling us about a vhs he had of an early mercyful fate concert where the fans kept calling them out for encore after encore. his claim was that they came out for 13 encores, which we didn't believe. so the next week he brought the vhs and we watched it. he was exactly right. after they finished their set, the fans couldn't get enough and they came out for 13 encores!!! now being that the band was still up and coming, they didn't have enough material to play different songs, so they played some of the same songs over. they ended up playing satan's fall 3 times! mercyful fate were way ahead of their time. their first album, melissa, is awesome! every song it (7 tracks, i believe) is good. and then their 2nd album, don't break the oath, is one of the best metal albums of all-time. unfortunately they broke up after don't break the oath, but reformed in the early 90's minus kim ruzz on drums. in '93 they released their 3rd album, in the shadows. it's awesome! in my opinion the albums after that are just alright by mercyful fate standards, but there are people who prefer the late 90's material. all in all they have 7 albums, and they are all good.
The Trash Talking need to explore to "King of Shock Rock" " Alice Cooper'. Legend 🔥 2 ) Billion Dollar Babies. 2) Balad of Dwight Frye 3 ) Schools Out Began in 68 and still killing it!!
Charon, in Greek mythology, the son of Erebus and Nyx (Night), whose duty it was to ferry over the Rivers Styx and Acheron those souls of the deceased who had received the rites of burial. ... In Etruscan mythology he was known as Charun and appeared as a death demon, armed with a hammer.
lol, you really impressed me with your natural reaction because even if your style is rap, I clearly see that you know the song as they said but the funniest thing is that the reaction you have I had it in 1984 when i bought the vinyl, i couldn't believe my ears, good job boys.

There is a Black metal Band super hyped since 2015 and i think you never reacted to tem. They're called batushka and their show is like a mass... In a irônic way. I think you guys should check It out.
The riffs of Mercyful Fate is just on another level compared to all other bands on the planet.
Hank Shermann couldn't stop adding riffs
Merciful Fate-The Oath
So crazy,So evil !! 😈
High quality metal sound🎵 and hot reaction make me crazy !!
To watch your reaction movie is very worth time for me .
Late, but they were Majestic Satanic Metal. All the others were still in war, Mercyful Fate was already sitting in the throne, watching.
They had to figure all that out live while playing the show.
definitely hear the hear there influence today! keep on rockin in the free world!
Devildriver - The Mountain
Unearth - Endless
Mercyful Fate performed this track live for John Peel on BBC Radio 1 back in the 80's and it was damn near CD perfect. An incredible performance that someone has uploaded to YT.
I perchanced Merciful Fate Melissa the first time in 1984. Still one of my favorite bands of all time.
So crazy glad to see you guys cover the best band ever.
This guys are really feeling the king
Thats what it is all about
Enjoy music
And how could you not if its mercyful themselves
Had a cousin who actually lived in the same apartment (on top of) King Diamond (Kim Bendix) when he was still living in Hvidovre/Denmark 🇩🇰
(Back in late 70es/early 80es )
Sadly im too young to have met him in person back then
(I'm born in '85 😆 so)
But my cousin got to chill with Kim and the gang (both when Kim was in Brats (punk band) and later when they made Merciful Fate..
Idk if he still got pictures of that time tho
All over the place is just what Needs to be heard more than ever these days. This progressive opera metal is creative and can show up any radio friendly b.s. music these days. It is good to be challenged.
"Who's Charon ?" What a line... :-D I had great fun watching your video, guys.
There’s hope for you boys yet! 👿🔥🤘
Close friends with Metallica, the BBC sessions version of this was covered in a medley by Metallica. OG band members. One of the first wave black metal bands, Nordic band members used stage names :-
My brothers
This is the good shit right here
The beginning of black metal
This is my childhood 🤘🤘🤘🤘🤘
When I want to get hyped I listen to King Diamond - Dressed in White.
It's basically one awesome riff after the other with Mikkey Dee drumming.
It never gets mentioned anywhere.
If you want to hear the ‘60s band that inspired this, check out Coven’s album _Witchcraft Destroys Minds and Reaps Souls,_ especially the first and third tracks, the songs called “Black Sabbath” and “Coven in Charing Cross” (although the whole album is a must-listen, I think those two songs have the most lyrical similarities).
It’s interesting that Coven’s bassist was named Oz Osborne, and they had a song called “Black Sabbath”.
Hell yes!!!! King Diamond is the man!!!!
this song has 13 riffs different it's incredible
Into my Coven by Merciful Fate!!
also Small Hours by Holocaust used to scare the shit outta myself delivering papers to that song
"A DANGEROUS MEETING"
I think this came out in 83, my third album I bought, I'm 51 and still jam it
This song was a part of Metallica's "Mercyful Fate" Melody song from the Garage Days Inc album from 1999.
Mercyful Fate and King Diamond. The master of the vampire music.
King Diamond.... Outstanding vocal range. Excellent professional musicians.
Mercyful Fate and King Diamond fan, loved the reaction!
This song kicks ass.
You nailed it when you called it the Bohemian Rhapsody of (Satanic) Metal...Satan's Fall is a masterpiece.
At first I thought he said, "who's Karen?" LoL. "waiting at the dollar store / for Karen to arrive / A refund from the manager / Don't you even try." And Mercyful Fate is legendary -- your best reactions yet!
Hahahahaha. Good one :D
The most absurdly beautiful music you will hear. Just the WTF factor there is unprecedented
Not the first, but the one he is known for. Prior to that, he was in Brainstorm, Black Rose, Brats and Danger Zone.
Thats why we love MF and KD. There's more in one song than in 3 albums of most comercial bands.
Check out A Dangerous Meeting, Come to The Sabbath, Nuns Have No Fun and The Uninvited Guest. Also being close to Christmas check out King Diamond - No Presents for Christmas. You should also check out Denner Shermann - Satan's Tomb and Son of Satan. Very much in the same style as Mercyful Fate
in regards to the touring and crowd reaction stuff you were talking about: when i was in college (almost 20 years ago), there was an old head that used to party with us and he was telling us about a vhs he had of an early mercyful fate concert where the fans kept calling them out for encore after encore. his claim was that they came out for 13 encores, which we didn't believe. so the next week he brought the vhs and we watched it. he was exactly right. after they finished their set, the fans couldn't get enough and they came out for 13 encores!!! now being that the band was still up and coming, they didn't have enough material to play different songs, so they played some of the same songs over. they ended up playing satan's fall 3 times!
mercyful fate were way ahead of their time. their first album, melissa, is awesome! every song it (7 tracks, i believe) is good. and then their 2nd album, don't break the oath, is one of the best metal albums of all-time. unfortunately they broke up after don't break the oath, but reformed in the early 90's minus kim ruzz on drums. in '93 they released their 3rd album, in the shadows. it's awesome! in my opinion the albums after that are just alright by mercyful fate standards, but there are people who prefer the late 90's material. all in all they have 7 albums, and they are all good.
What they don’t know is this is the first primal wave of black metal
Mercyful Fate rulez!!

Bohemian Rhapsody from Hell. Indeed. Well put !
Please do Acid Bath
Bring me the blood of the newborn child.

This song makes the “Mellissa” album the greatest Mercyful Fate album EVER…the other epic song You need to react to & get creepy, goosebumps vibes is the title track “Melissa”….it’s also got the crazy riffage, solos & King Diamond’s soaring vocals. It’s a bit more emotional, but still heavy as fuck 🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽🤘🏽
gotta thumbs up for Satan's Fall. One of Mercyful Fate's best, King Diamond and company crush it
