Definitely true about the aloha being lost in Kailua. I grew up here and Ik I can speak for many of us, it’s very disappointing and sad that somewhere we grew up doesn’t even feel like home anymore. The beaches even the parks and all the shops isn’t mellow anymore, it’s crazy and busy and there IS more rude ppl dis side cuz it’s mostly ppl that not even born and raised here so I agree with a comment about how they bringing there attitudes here and it’s not a good representation of kailua nd hawaii in general. I also think us locals here may have gotten fed up and it’s kinda hard to tell what kine ppl u dealing wit. The ppl in this town is not the same, many ppl not from here overtook all the locals in this small town. Heartbreaking 💔 but aside from that 😅 I enjoy ur videos and u did Kailua good 😁🤙
People who moved from outside of HI to Kailua are usually well off, type A, highly accomplished, well paid professional. Usually not mellow but the opposite. That's my guess.
Yes, my family all hold our breath when going through the tunnels. 🙂
Another great video. Thank u for that.
Thank you so much. My heart is in Hawaii.
As a 43 year old man that grew up in Kailua living on wailelo street my whole young life. My house is on Zillow at 600 sq ft for 2,800,000. Needless to say I used to go home every year. Now i don’t go anymore. It’s just to sad for me. Coming down the pali feeling home in my lungs always makes me tear up. But now this Hawaiian portages man I hate what it’s turned in to. I’m glad my grandma and grandpa aren’t around anymore to see what our home has turned in to.
H3 a blight on the Aina! Originally from Halekou, Kaneohe mid 40's to mid 50's then family moved to Kailua. Not the Kailua I grew up in. Went to Kailua Elem, Iolani, Kailua Inter/High, Punahou summer school cause I no study, cut an go surf lol (my mother grad Punahou) then they sent me to the Big Island where I finally wen grad from Hawai'i Prep! Loved seeing your tour of home. Parents built our Kailua home 1954 $15,000 and see on Zillo now showing $2.7 mil Awee! Mahalo for the video an a shaka for you. Aloha
wholefoods burritos for the win. If someone culd make an airfreshener with the smell of the H3 at dusk💚
Amazing 🤙🏼 if you could go back in Kailua, and show some of the few farmer markets vibes.
Amazing 👍
Lady, have you been to California or big US cities? Talked about rude. I spent a month in Windward country (Kailua) to spend time with my son. The people are friendly. Cars even stopped so you can cross the street. Sweet. I have never experienced that in the mainland
the people are friendly compared to california but because so many people come from those places to live in kailua, they bring certain attitudes to hawaii that they grew up with it. Friendly attitutes in california can be interpreted as rude in hawaii. Kailua is pretty friendly compared to other places in the united states but compared to other cities in hawaii, people seem colder/not as much as aloha.
I always Shaka when i'm there. Seriously, its just nice behavior :)
🤙 you’re absolutely right!
love the Vids
Favorite part of Oahu. 🤙🏽
My parents home was 4 story house in Lanikai. 202-A luika Plac. Love sailing with my dad
I used to live in Kailua right on Kalaheo Ave. I didn't know how good I had it at the time.
Cinnamons in Vegas shut down sadly.
Another unfortunate consequence of the pandemic? I'm sure Cinnamons had a following there on the ninth island as well.
Beautiful Paradise at Kailua Oahu Hawaii ⛅⛰🏖🏙.
Mahalo for watching and commenting, Eric 🤙🏽
Born and raise kailua grad 91 it not da same no more mahahalo live cali now .but the ohana still there . You parked at the spot da boiz good times.. mahalo
Hi Derek! Just want to say my wife & I are fans of you & Mahe. We watch your videos every night and sometimes we do marathons during weekends. We find your videos very informative, educational & entertaining. We like how you showcase different real estates then insert some cool places to eat, swim, hike or chill on the side. It’s like a virtual field trip every time. We like how you keep it real when you talk about the real estate market even if it doesn’t favor you or your team. We learned a lot about the different cultures, food & languages of Hawaii. Thank you for sharing your videos. Don’t get too sad if they don’t throw the Shaka back, just keep on sharing Aloha. It will be an honor to get a shoutout for my wife Jonelyn, she’s a Waianae Searider. God bless your channel🙏🏼Mahalo!🤙🏽
Mahalo for you and your wife’s steady support! I’m glad to know there’s a couple out there doing viewing marathons of our videos. 🥰 You know what… we’re shooting a video about schools and we’ll be sure to shot out Jonelyn and the Searider ohana 🤙
@@movingtohawaii thanks Derek! That will be awesome! Hope to meet you next time we go visit family in Hawaii! God bless you & your team..regards to Mahe! Mahalo!🤙🏽
Thanks for this! It's very helpful. I may get there someday before I get old.
I really want to move here. I feel like it would be rough trying to make this happen as a single mother. But man it’s so breathtaking!!!!!!
GOOD LUCK!!!🤣
I remember T&C Surf shop in Kailua back in the 80's
I think it’s still there…. lots of development now so I wouldn’t be surprised if it isn’t though
The 80s were a great time to live in Kailua as a child
I enjoy eating at Cinnamon's restaurant and hiking the Lanikai Pillbox hike.
Gotta burn off those pancakes!
@@movingtohawaii yeah for sure.
gotta show the hoods too.. AniAni, Kuhio, Mayor wrights, Palolo valley etc..
Mililani, Kapolei, Ewa, Makakilo mostly locals. Kailua has lots of transplants from the mainland that no fault of theirs, were raised in a self centered way that’s why you see more “Lack of Aloha”. Some transplants assimilate to the Hawaii ways but some don’t. There is still that entitlement attitude sprinkled around Kailua.
Aloha! So I wrote an intro on another video, but this is where I'd eventually like to buy. You really know Oahu, that's for sure!
I want to know about the condo fees for Windward Harbor, the Hokulani, the Manors (both), & Ka Malanai. Please 😊
Let’s connect. Can you register on our site coreteamhawaii.com
Hopefully some day soon. Wife finally got the full time remote employment. Now I just gotta work on it and we can plan the big move. Would love to be in this area.
GOOD LUCK!!!🤣
cheeee seen my house in keolu yesssaaa 🤙🏽🤙🏽🤙🏽
My favorite places in Kailua is the Goodwill & Salvation Army. Too expensive over there.
You overlooked Pohakupu , Olomana , and Maunawili .
Yup. We are doing a more comprehensive one releasing in the coming month. And, no.
Is Boots and Kimo’s still in business. Those pancakes rocked my world
How is it after the recent flooding? How is the power lately? Mahalo nui loa!
If you have time to do a video on kapolei that would be good
Aloha, Mark. Here’s our first video on Kapolei:

No more locals living in Lanikai at least I don't know any locals living in Lanikai nah I have fond memories of Kailua the old Kailua ✌️
Still get some, sprinkled here and there. Definitely not as much
True, my fam from way back - building in the Lanikai community park named after my gf--- not da same but life is change aloha
Sold my house on Punaa in 2003. It was the biggest mistake of my life. I miss my life there.
I like see kahala
We have Kahala in the collection.
Can you tour Makaha valley?
Kaneohe please!❤
We visit Ahuimanu, Lilipuna and couple spots in our Kaneohe video: ua-cam.com/video/8eYMMPBUapY/v-deo.html
Recently visited O'ahu & stayed in Ewa Beach...has aquifer contamination negativity affected quality of life in the area. Would long term rentals be available there?
Diamond head, Kahala, north shore
Got videos on all those places. Find them in our channel 🤙
Hi! Went visit there in Oahu 2 times just few weeks ago and I want to see how is the condo living closer to waikiki but not pricey like below $400k? My wife and I are thinking if we can afford to live in condo closer but not too far from Waikiki. Can you please make a vlog for condo living. Thanks.
Kailua nothing lower than 650k I’m afraid.
Windward passage is the only building with an ocean view - 21 story - condo he showed - 700-1.1m.
Nalo mo' bettah....just have a good home security system
What happened to the scooters, when I lived in Hawaii everyone had scooters, I drove a scooter everywhere.
My daughter and son-in-law are moving to Honolulu, they bought a home in Kamala/Diamond Head area. We were watching one of your videos and you were explaining what you call people that are older than you like uncle and auntie. My daughter is 40 something my son-in-law is 50 something and I’m 74 now like with our neighbors if it’s an older person what do I call them and what do they call me. If you could explain that a little more to me I would appreciate it thank you!
Even if you are in your 50's, if there's at least a 2 decade gap between you and your neighbor I'd stick with the Aunty/Uncle + First Name unless otherwise asked not to. You can always agree to address one another on a first name basis later on.
Kahala, not Kamala.
@@truesonofliberty3267 Yes that was a mistake, Kahala
Aloha Derek! I'm looking for a house in an area where it's legal to do short term rentals. Love Kailua area, but I know it's not legal there. Any suggestions? Mahalo!
I got all the suggestions. Hit me up on the contact form on our site listed in description because this conversation deserves depth and specificity
Please do one on Maunawili and Norfolk.
Those are nice pockets of Kailua, for sure! Thanks for the recommendation!
I noticed your website is mainly for buying and selling homes, do you also property manage any rental properties?
Aloha Nicholas. I do a very small amount and will only do it for a UA-cam connection or friend… if it isn’t right for me, I can line you up with someone. If you fill out the website form or contact me directly we can discuss.
@@movingtohawaii thanks Derek! I’ve actually signed up to emails - I still think the move is about a year away so I don’t want to take up your time! We are planning on coming by to visit and look later this year and I may reach out to you then 😊
@@nicholasmatthews1891 no problem. We regularly connect with people who are a ways out.
Brought my son to Kailua beach soon as we got off the plane. Got hit up with jellyfish stings. Not good.
Waikiki Aquarium has an online calendar for jellyfish probabilities at the beach. You might want to check that next time.
Hoo brah, why you neva show Aikahi, Kalaheo, Kainalu side of Kailua? Lol, no seriously I've watched all the Kailua videos and you never show them!
How bad is the traffic from Kailua 630am via H3 to H2 and to Wahiawa and then back to Kailua around 6pm?
Hi Marc, you’re looking at a 40 minute commute both ways, with your return trip from Wahiawa to Kailua typically taking slightly longer by around 5-10 mins due to “pau hana” or after-work traffic.
The reason your morning commute from Kailua to Wahiawa is typically faster is because you’re going east-to-west which is against the flow of heavy traffic in the morning flowing from west-to-east.
@@movingtohawaii Mahalo 🤙🏻
(Continued) Typically, traffic flowing into Kailua from the H3 will back up around the Pali Highway and Kamehameha Highway intersection. That’s right in between Hawaii Pacific University and the Pali Golf Course
@@movingtohawaii mahalo nui 🤙🏻
Thanks so much for doing this video!! My fiancé and I watched it together and learned so much! We’d love to learn more about the east side of the island! 😇
no hayans, no aloha.
Was that hanama bay
What time in the video are you referring to?
Sad how Kailua going to shit. In 1 week we had 3 robberies and the homeless raking over
Why do they call Rabbit 🐇 Island 🏝 (no rabbits ?) my Ohana has no idea
love your channel but I want to clarify something. I am born and raised in Hawaii 69yrs and many of us dont use the shaka sign. That doesnt mean we are less aloha. We show our aloha in so many other ways.I am from the windward side of Oahu where we have many transplants from the mainland and elsewhere. As Mahe said in one of their episodes, it depends how you come to the island, with what attitude. If you come to embrace the island its culture and people then aloha. So do not use the shaka sign as your compass as to if the person is friendly or not. You will know by the kindness, generosity, smiles, and culture shared whether the person is aloha or not.
Your comment is spot on. A Shaka is not the only compass to measure aloha, rather a collection of personal traits and behaviors. Mahalo, Sandara!
Sandara, Derek here. If you from Hawaii and Windward side as you said, you understand the disappointment it not getting the reciprocity of gestures and acknowledgement when showing aloha by letting people go in traffic etc then yea?
@@movingtohawaii yeah I do, but I choose to not sweat the small kine stuff because we never know whats going on in other peoples lives, if they've had a pilau day, family problems, sick or just grumpy. I remember my friend shared a story about her husband getting pissed off everytime someone didnt shaka back or that he let someone go in traffic and they didnt wave thank you. He also tried to chase some of them down just to give stink eye...and he's a tiny japanese guy too! (I'm hawaiian chinese japanese) She said then are you doing it to get rewarded? That thought humbled me so now I just wave without expecting anything back cause I gave it freely. With no expectations... its more ono when you do get a shaka or a wave back.😊
A warm mahalo nui to you, Mahe and your staff for being so helpful especially to those who have moved away to find their way back home to ohana and paradise.🤗💖🌴🌺🌊
@@movingtohawaii my thoughts exactly Derek...lol...personally I think this 'wannabe' is lying with a full tongue of 'haole' hair brudda...lol...
You know you from kailua when.....?!
I have so many…
...when your family has been there for over 50 years...
Are you selling out Kailua????? Give locals a chance PLEASE!
