Hello Brian, thank you for all of the valuable information that you provide! I received a fully favorable decision in the mail back on April 2nd but I haven't heard anything further since then. I have checked my online SSA account & it does not reflect the information I received in the letter but rather says my file was forwarded for additional review to someone in Jamaica NY (I'm in Ohio) on March 30th???

My SSD application is back at the field office, after DDS, to make sure I still meet the non med requirements for benefits. During the the application process early on, my former boss, out of pity, paid me $500 per week for 8 weeks so could pay my rent and not get behind in bills. But I did not work at all. I filed in March, had received that pity pay from March-May, so is SSA likely to deny my application for receiving that
much money during the "5 month" waiting period?

My application was ultimately approved albeit took about 8 months of waiting. When yours is approved, your SSA web page is gonna show the details loud and clear. Patience is a virtue and calling your local field office for updates seems to help some too. I hope this reply was helpful.

Social Security will go on a parents working record for a disabled child. With both parents working, they automatically go with the higher earning parent's work record. There will be no opportunity to choose as Social Security will choose for you.
A friend and his wife adopted 2 special needs children during his 60s. He had higher earnings than his wife so they went by his record. Social Security paid a percentage of support for each child based on my friends record.

Can you pls help me with thi iss question? I have a daughter her father passed away November 30th last year and I had my social security appointment for April 3rd I went through the whole entire process I even gave her my routing number and account number. But he had other kids and two that are under 18. Now the one youngest one was adopted legally by his sister before he was even one or about 1-year-old so the question would be can he receive any of that money and I already know how much money I'm getting a month pretty much everything and I even took a paper to the office the last time I talked to her was when she told me to take that paper to the office and ask me to have the other daughter call her also I don't know if I mentioned that the other daughter said she did call but she never called her back so I don't know what's going on I don't even know if that's true she might have already known what her mother aunt was doing you know I just can't stop thinking about what is going on. And like I said I don't need pointers on what survival benefits are and how they work and all that stuff because once again everything was completed I mean she told me a price The main thing she was worried about was getting that letter to the other children And that they legally have to send to her and she wanted an address and I also learned that they have to give them 6 months and if there's no response by then they are allowed to move on with the case and my daughter will received a lot more money you know so anyway I have no questions about any of that cuz like I said I had an appointment and she told me what I'd be getting in all this stuff and honestly I told her about the other children and I learned about the letter she needs to send and if they don't hear anything back within 6 months then it's considered default or whatever in my daughter would receive the max which was $1,200. The SSI woman could not answer me about the question with the adopted child which I thought but I guess they don't know as much as we think. Also the adopted boy does have disabilities but nothing physical really it's more about the mother was a drug addict and he's definitely functionable and everything but honestly no one's really 100% sure I don't know why they live an hour away so anyway I went through all that last thing the woman told me to do was take a paper to the office and I don't remember what it was and all that stuff but during the conversation she told me about having to get a hold of his daughter it was 16 is 16 and I know that his sister because she also lives with her but not legally adopted anyway her mother also passed away when she was very young his sister has had her since then and she never gives her the money I talk to my person and she said she has had pays that were 16 before. I gave her the woman's number told her to call them told her everything I believe she deserves this money also so I'm not that way and she's only going to be able to collect for maybe a year and a half now and my daughter's only 12 so long story short I have not heard anything for a while I have not received a letter I was told to just take the paper down I was told how much money I was going to get I even gave this woman my routing number and account number so it all seems set up to me and that it was taken care of and all I had to do was wait patiently I do understand the government is very slow but I decided now since it's been months and I don't know if I mentioned April 3rd was the appointment so he died in November I mean three more months will be a year that he's been dead and I just started to think it's just taking a lot longer than I thought. Anyhow my daughter does talk to her sister every once in awhile and I asked her to ask her sister if she heard anything if she called that woman and what was going on because I did not bother her or I have not talked to her I knew it was kind of a touchy subject so I just let it be with her you know but anyway the answer she gave my daughter was that she has been collecting for about 2 months now but of course she's afraid of this woman I believe she's not a very nice person she said that her mother was taking care of it which is basically her aunt but she calls her mom I guess anyway and that she really didn't know much but that they were putting it an account for her and she wasn't allowed to have it till she was 18 and when I say they I mean her the sister the aunt the mother. Wow I haven't received anything and I'm very confused here. I feel like possibly the other woman filed before me possibly had this already going through her minds the day he died and had her appointment before me and wondering if she wasn't as decent as I was and told the woman about me because like I said they live an hour away so she would have went to a totally different building and place although it is the same county so my question is why am I not receiving money yet if she is and what could possibly be going on? I have or I mean did get very upset I was almost in tears I just don't have very good luck and I honestly thought I'm just probably somehow getting screwed over and it's not even that I really just want to know what's going on. They will not let me create an account or they say I already have an account but when I try to access it they tell me that they can't do anything with my social security number and I don't really have another email I thought about using my daughter Social security number but I knew this was going to happen I have very bad luck online so I had a woman on the phone today the 1-800 number which says it's 24 hours but no it was 10 to 11:00 p.m. and she wanted his social security number and it's been 10 years I remember the last four digits and honestly I did remember it but I was getting a little frustrated and wasn't sure if it was correct so anyhow this woman tells me I'll have to call back tomorrow so she didn't tell me a thing and the original woman I've been calling her for a couple days and she has not called me back. The sister told me she did call that woman and they never got a hold of her but I don't really believe that I honestly believe his sister the aunt the mother just went above her already and maybe she even knew that and just didn't know how to tell me she is young she's definitely very fearful of them cuz she's like a timid person and they are far from that so I think she kind of just does what they say or doesn't want to get involved I did think it was weird when I told her how much money we'd be getting she's about to start college she deserves that money and I thought it to be a little odd that she didn't care and it made me believe that was why and I think I am right about why she did not seem to care in the first place she knew it wasn't going to go to her or whatever. And that's exactly why I asked a woman if her being 16 if she could be the payee so I told her that and I think she wanted it that way but she does what she's told by this mother aunt person and I wonder if there is just something going on that I don't know about not to mention the woman I had on the phone although they said the phone number was 24/7 I could not find his death certificate I could not remember his social security number and of course I even told the woman if she would just give me a second quacked my thoughts and my anxiety I had so many papers pulled out I knew I had it but she was very unwilling to wait and I even told her I know I'm going to find this as soon as I get off the phone with you probably within 5 minutes and of course I did but they said they close at 11:00 and it was quarter till I tried to call back but they wouldn't even take my call so I have to call back tomorrow but I honestly just want to know what could be going on I'm getting highly confused here I'm not confused about the amount of money I know everything about everything pretty much I mean pertaining to my case except for the first question I asked you with the adopted child because I did read it and it said that they wouldn't receive it but if they did have a disability but also it made it sound like not a mental one so yeah it's just very confusing I knew the online thing was not going to work for me nothing ever does. For some reason I can never create accounts or it goes wrong when I try to I don't know. Or it'll come up and say I already have one not on this particular one but I mean that's just what always happens to me and that's why I did not want to do it online and I just wanted to speak to somebody and it's just ridiculous nowadays it used to be so much easier back in the day to just call someone and physically talk to someone and ask them a simple question get it answered and over with and done nothing is like that anymore and I'm sorry this is off track but the internet's probably the worst thing it ever happened to us! If you could get back to me soon as possible I would just feel a sense of relief if I had some answers unless you don't know the answers to these questions then that's fine I will just continue to call until I figure out what's going on so I thank you very much and I hope to hear from you with some answers or just tell me you don't know that's fine too but I need to ease my mind of this it's making my brain very unhealthy I'm a single mom with two small girls well 12 and 7 and on welfare so you know I could really use this it could really help not to mention he would have wanted this very much he would want it for all his kids but I'm just saying I don't understand how she could get money before me unless that's a normal thing and I'm just overreacting sorry I ramble but thank you I hope to hear from you soon thank you very much again have a great night or day 3:26

Hi, thanks for sharing this story. It can indeed be a complex and sometimes confusing process, especially when children are involved.
While I can't provide specific advice on this situation, I can share some general information that might help.
Survivor benefits for children are typically available until the child reaches age 18. The child must be under 18 years old. Benefits can continue until age 19 if the child is a full-time student at a secondary (elementary or high) school.
In general, adopted children can qualify for survivor benefits, but the specifics can depend on various factors, including the timing of the adoption and the circumstances of the deceased parent's family situation.
If there's a delay in receiving benefits, it could be due to a variety of reasons, such as processing times or the need for additional information.
Communication with the Social Security Administration (SSA) can sometimes be challenging. It's important to be persistent and follow up regularly about the status of your case.
It's best that you talk to one of our advocates and be a member FOR FREE with The Disability Digest. You can start here: bit.ly/48wwOqV. Have a wonderful day.

I give your video a grade of F-. Your video at BEST confirms that after the SSA applicants files an SSDI or SSI application, that from their it is a "RAT Race and Guessing Game" that the SSA plays with applicants. Applicants for SSDI or SSI should NOT have to GUESS "Ooh Well, Now when should I receive an initial response from the SSA"? The SSA whole fucked Up process needs to be TOTALLY Over Haul to Fully inform the applicants how long will it takes for each application up hill battles stages in moving the SSA red tape application long process moving forward instead of the OLD stail and uncertain guessing and waiting GAMES.

The wait time is ludicrous. A big reason for that is all the people who know they are not disabled who are filing trying to get a free check. Just like we need a loser pay court system in this country there needs to be punishment for those who obviously know they are not disabled and trying to game the system.

Unfortunately it’s hard to prove that and anyone is allowed to apply no matter how small their limitations may be. I had a friend who kept applying over and over because of her acne and she kept getting denied.

Hi! I entirely disagree with you as far as "... Setting Up an SSA Account...". SSA Account Set up is ONLY to the Advantage of SSA and TOTALLY against the BEST INTEREST of the SSA applicants. The SSA applicants GREATER chances of losing their SSDI or SSI application is throughout having an SSA set up account. I always tell the SSA to "... Send It In the Mail..."by Regular Mail. So that I have the upper hand to either accept or ignore SSA mail, to the BEST of my interest and not in the best interest of the SSA. The SSA application process is a dirty process out to DENY benefits NOT to GRANT benefits.

I understand your concerns about setting up a Social Security account and the application process for SSDI or SSI. It’s important to choose the method of communication with the SSA that you feel most comfortable with and that you believe serves your interests best. If you prefer to receive correspondence by regular mail, that is certainly your right. It’s essential to feel in control of your application process and to do what you believe will maximize your chances of a favorable outcome. If you have any more questions or need further assistance, feel free to reach out.
