I was hurt on the job. I’ll be 59 years old in three weeks. I cannot go back to work or use a walker and a wheelchair. If I’m in a big area to walk I have no education in office. I’ve been a forklift operator before of course I needdisability, how do I get it?
I was almost murdered by my X husband so I have severe PTSD and I will never heal from that. I go to therapy twice a month sometimes more. Will I be cut if they do a review?

IKR, I am fine out of the house, I feel like the ole me, but once I step in my home I don't even bother turning on the lights. I am pathetic I think, I take naps and call people to express all sides of my emotional state and the hurdles life throws me. There are many like us. Those guardian angels have something up their sleeve, I have a good idea what it is. Also, have accepted death (unusual, but comforting) and left momentos and letters attached to items I have now.

I have been trying for disability for almost 7 years. I had my hearing last month and have to get a physical and psychiatric exams by the state next month.
I was denied my benefits for a little over three and a half years. The trial was over the phone because of Covid and I was treated like a criminal by the judge. I have worked for over fifty years of my life and never had been treated so badly. I don’t think I will ever have faith in our judicial system for the rest of my life. Our government and judicial systems need to be seriously revamped.😡😡🤬🤬

You sir have a lot more wrong with you than I do it took me 4 years to win my S.S.D.I. case so i'd say don't sweat it I was denied more times than I can remember but I got it I ended up going before a Federal Judge who had the final word he made the decision alone my Lawyer told me after going before the Judge that it really came down to one question the Judge asked he asked me in the past year how many times did I have to go to the E.R. I said at least 50 they had my girlfriend come in and the Judge asked her the same question she said at least 50 case won. it sucked it took so long but they had to pay back from day one that I applied if you are doing it alone I suggest getting a Lawyer there is a set amount the Lawyer can collect and it was $4500 but well worth it with a lawyer no stress on you Good Luck.
If your complications prevent you from using your current "TRADE"skills to safely make a living with anylonger and your to old to learn a new "TRADE". You automatically qualify for disability. There is no need for the cry baby stuff with the SSA, they don't give a damn. The rules are cut and dry. If you say you can't they have to prove you can, and they can't,.
I suffered from sudden fainting spells, the SSA said was panic attacks, that did not prevent me from going to work. They are right, it did not. However smoking 40 years began to prevent the use of a respirator required to use my trade skills to make a living with safely. I am to old to learn a new TRADE, so I automatically qualified on that basis. The SSA didn't give a damn about anything else wrong with me.

I wonder where legislators come up with these amounts for people to live on. His "income" is less than 1-bedroom rent in the entire county of 3M people.
I’ve been on state disability since Nov 2023 and was on SSDI from 2008-2015 for same conditions. I’m a single parent and my 16 year old also has bipolar and autism. My state disability claim ends Nov 2024. I doubt I’ll get approved for SSDI now, although I was approved within 3 months the first time. Maybe that will factor in now. I’m 54 now.
Do you know that SS will pay $750 for a dependant living with you. I don't know if that is per child because I received it for my son. It is worth checking in to...
I have a dear friend that lives with a spinal cord nerve injury; she was approved quickly with her first application. Years later SSD has come back and said she should never have been approved without a hearing (that’s not her fault) and hit her with back pay as well as stopping her benefit. When finally at a hearing (after all the 2020 mess and they started back up again) she was told her original doctor “didn’t keep adequate records at the time” and she would no longer qualify until she has new work experience. OUR SYSTEM IS BROKEN!

I've had a somewhat similar experience, I'm disabled and applied for disability benefits when I was 17 and got denied because they didn't feel I was disabled enough.... Even tho I was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) And I also have always had a bad back, hips and knees. And on top of all that I am in remission now after battling advanced stage 4 Lymphoma cancer. And I'm still not able to get SSDI.

A lot of the programs like free phones(ACP program), half off of things like Amazon prime and Walmart plus and some of the others are a lot easier to get if you are on SSI or have a food stamp card. You can still get them if you provide proof of income but it's a lot easier with an EBT card or if you are on some type of government assistance program.
This is terrible advice. Being denied several times is a part of the process. Having a lawyer significantly increases your chances of winning your case. Your previous denials all included paperwork and a track record of appointments and such that helped prove what you wrote on your successful paperwork. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum and trust me, without the lawyers ever having had been involved, your chance would have been so much lower.

I was truthful, I had an insurance that when I die, my wife would inherit the insurance. Its great that some people get the help they deserve via spending cards etc. In my area none of that exists so the disabled are forced to suffer. Most cant afford to move to a county that believes in helping it's citizens.

And the #1 thing he and I can't tell you enough. Keep all your Dr. appointments. Even if you feel you don't need to see him. This way that can't say. Facts! My friends mom is disable, and she said to make sure you go to ALL your doctor's appts, follow all doctor's orders, AND get all medications filled. They can pull your file at anytime and if they see you are getting "treatment" for your condition. If not, they can drop you!
Well, I must be doing well there because I have five different doctors that I see. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2012 and while the cancer was painful, the UTI's were far more painful than anything I have experienced in my life. I am feeling better now. Volunteering to baby sit is a bad idea depending on why you're on SSDI: like for instance some kind of back trauma or injury that limits how long you can stand walk and move around

I have issues since age 19 walking, standing for long periods of time and I'm in my mid 30's now. So disability set me up with an appointment for an MRI the day before my appointment to go see the disability office appointment. Along with alot of mental issues and I had a learning disability since school days and even have my adjusted diploma from high school because of it... Do you think I'll get approved I Mena I have MDD, ADD, PTSD, Learning disabilities, I'm on the spectrum with tics and schizophrenia as well... Medications and doctors to prove it and been hospitalized for them issues too....
One thing they can do is TELL US WHERE THEY ARE! I cannot tell you how many disability review forms are returned to our offices because they don’t call us to do a change of address and we have to stop the checks until we find them. Also tell us if you start working. Tell us if you stop working.
From a beneficiary perspective I understand how you feel. I've been asking my payee who lives in Florida for months to report that i moved to Texas and to put in a change of address. He said it's due to transportation issues why he hasn't done it yet but despite that he has been a great payee. It's my father
Also, even after you're approved, keep _all_ disability documentation. Also keep all old and new and updated documentation. Keep a strong medical network handy and see them on a regular basis. You _always_ want to be ready to produce disability documentation.

Have copies of your medical records in _your_ possession, not just at your doctor's office, so you won't have to even contact your doctor to get access to a record or document. Have paper copies, but also save copies in your e-mail, on flashdrives _and_ cloud. That way, you don't run the risk of losing your only copy of a record.

All my docs except my rheumatologist are local so I generally am able to access my records pretty quickly. I wonder if there's a way to share MyChart/Epic records if necessary, as I do have that for my rheum? I'm currently going through a CDR in order to switch from SSI to DAC and it's definitely nerve wracking to deal with even after all these years 😅
I came down with a crippling neurological condition that took me off my feet literally overnight. One day I was fine, the next morning I could barely stand up. Getting worse. It’s absolutely brutal. @@emiledarga9313 It's been horrendous. In 2022 I caught a terrible case of Lyme disease plus whatever else the ticks carried. Covered in rashes. Doctors suggested that every rash was a tick bite after seeing the pictures. It set off (what the doctors are saying) a rippling effect of an autoimmune response attacking small fiber nerves, upper motor neuron involvement, ME/CFS, and possible pancreatic problems (being explored now) as I developed reactive hypoglycemia, which could be causing even more problems. It also crashed my B12 levels, which could have even more implications. A simple 20 minute round trip walk once per month to the library causes a week long crash of severe pain, muscle problems, and a whole slew of other issues.
This sounds like me, it wound up being a severe allergy to black mold. I was almost dead for the past 7 years. My brain was bad and my CNS. Pray to God. Jesus saved me. It was a brutal time for me. I pray you find your “juice”. ❤
I have severe RA and walk with a cane. My Rheumatologist can't get my counts down under 121 which is extremely high. It took me 5 years to get my disability.

I got my disability approved no issues without a lawyer. The key is actually being disabled. The average person only gets about $1600 per month. So you must live within your means.
I feel like ur statement about the key to being approved is to actually be disabled, is incredibly ignorant and rude. My mother was horribly brain injured by a drunk driver. She had an attorney and was denied 5 times before being approved. I have fibromyalgia and have been told that even tho I can barely function on a good day, I have a slim chance of being approved because fibromyalgia is hard to prove. Ur statement could make people think someone is faking or just lazy since the state won't recognize them as disabled. I hope u think things thru next time before u perpetuate such harmful mis-truths.

@@michaelmichael9940 I hate to agree with you but I do. I know there are people who should receive it who are denied. However, when I went to my hearing (I had a lawyer) there were *many* people in the room who seemed perfectly normal, laughing and joking about how they were gonna get approved, until time came for their hearing and then they were hunched over, moaning, having to hold onto someone to walk. It was ridiculous. There are a lot of fakers out there who make it harder for those of us who are truly disabled. Thankfully the judge saw that I was not faking, and granted me $1900+ a month. Granted that is based on what I put in, but as I understand it is a good amount.
My husband got his 1st social security check after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. They promptly took it back out of the bank when he died. You would think they could have let me keep that one check after totally supporting him and keeping up his medical insurance for over a year.

I broke both ankles and neither bend past 90°, i have arthritis in both ankles, knees, hips, back, had major surgery on my neck I have rods from C3 to C7 in my neck. My shoulders are going and I'm a diabetic. I've been denied. I don't want full disability I still want to work just not as much. I can barely move. I'm only 50 and have paid in since I was 17. And I'm a veteran. I can't get any help.
I was deemed totally and permanently disabled and medically retired at 55yrs, I got benefits but when I turned 65yrs, I received a letter which told me I was magically no longer disabled, I was just retired.
SSDI automatically converts to SSA retirement at the same base amount when you reach full retirement age. IIRC, offsets for WC benefits cease when you switch over to retirement and you're no longer subject to periodic medical review.
I’m eligible because of my disability to a gym membership (silver sneakers) but I’m too afraid to go because I don’t want to be “seen” as healthy enough to go exercise. Even though I’m just sitting in a chair all day decaying.
Could you ask your doctor if they thought it would help and what your limitations are? Then just work within those? I tried physical therapy to see if I could try exercising, it was bad and made me more sick. They pushed too hard too fast. That was a fail.
@@Joemammatype3 you still should go to the gym. My doctors told me to stay mobile to help my illness. They cannot tell you not to keep your body in motion. Because it will be on and off.
I was ran over and pinned under a car for over an hour. I flat lined 3x. Heart attack, 3 brain bleeds, traumatic brain injury, tibia fracture, 2 compound femur fractures, pelvis fracture, hip replaced. Short term memory loss. I was denied SSD. Waitressed 20 years, day of accident I got called for a job I could not take due to the damage. Fractures don’t count. Full time I was a reviewer for Department of health working on state plan amendments. I guess my lack of memory ability does not count. I got a lawyer for the fight. I got benefits back from 2 years previous. Amen.

They inly go back 6 minths either way. Did u really go back 2 years over here in ny u inly can het either 3 or 6 minths back no matter how long after the 6 minths you were sick and had applied.
1:32 find your juice and stay active in that even after you rmetire or get disability assistance. 3:31 protect your disability. Keep paper organized, 4:17 stay on record with your doctor and especially disability related treatment. 5:02 know the rules. Within your ability, know what work you can do and the max income that doesn’t penalize you. 6:00 know fuller related benefits like medicare. 9:24 stay inform. System changes and sources who can help you.

It would be nice for the SSA to discourage companies from applying an LTD offset clause when a person obtains disability. People should get what the LTD policy has determined + disability payment, noe LTD determined amount - disability payment. The later keeps the amount from LTD the same over the duration of payment.

It's 20 degrees outside. I'm alone in my van in a grocery store parking lot. I have no legs. I can't drive. No one will help me. I want to go to a shelter but they won't take me unless I come inside the shelter. And I can't do that.

SO many other individuals are extremely worse off and in need more than me, but when it comes down to it - my body is failing me and nothing seems to be helping that Drs are trying. I was also too proud to get help from others especially government programs. That all changed when I was very close to loosing my house. I finally woke up got a Lawyer, was qualified with my conditions 3 years later was approved. I recieved food card and medicaid that I needed to get into Dr appointmens. It was a struggle but finally got approved. Im 62 single worked all my life paying in to the system so decided to fight hard.

I just had a disability review and just received a letter that I received an unfavorable decision. Nothing has changed in my disabilities, but I was still denied. I have been through so much with these people & I have to go through the appeal status again & go before ALJ😢

I'm a 100% Total and Permanent disabled veteran, didn't know about VA disability until a few years ago, recently approved at 100% - after an appeal; took about 10 years. In the interim from the onset of total disability, I had SSI with medicaid; but with enough work history to qualify for SSA retirement that I plan to start at age 62. My SSI specifies it is due to disability. Question, "do I have to apply for SSDI or is it automatic due to my SSI due to disability". Hope someone can help shine some light on this. My son who was molested at a private school by o teacher. The school provided my no skills on how to deal with him at home saying they made me a legal killer? Anyway so to be able to afford the psych meds and therapy he most definitely needed at this time of his life. He had just graduated high school and vo-tech as well as a chef. A place he was hospitalized in at a young age it was obvious that they wanted me to apply for disability for him (so the school could cash in too on my son's situation and iq test said 141 iq. Along with and his feelings confused sexuality questions that never left his thoughts after all this Perverted man who started touching him at 7 years old that school called me at work when my son was 10 years old saying they had placed him on the plane alone and I should get to Philly Airport to meet his plane and pick him up. Later found out they'd sent 2 of the older boys my son and his roommate both a bit older than their other affected boys my kid however was not only smart but charming and articulate and was anxious to tell all of your secrets? I never have so far right! So I had done all the legwork to apply for ssi disability for him when was dealing with some heavy demons. It went right through first try and they even back dated to age 6 when the abuse started. At 18 they unceremoniously announce he's no longer a minor so he can't stay here after he graduates and also theyd stopped his ssd and announced in front of everyo n e that ive never entertained a man in my bedroom but my fiancé fuck now what I thought? Well him thinking he was grown and wanted to be his own payee he calls us a disability lawyer and hires him on a contingent plan . Giving this guy 40% of his settlement to this man for a phone call so he could drop me controlling his checks? This lawyer was totally useless. So on his interview in person day I went with my son. We go into the directors office all 4 of us counting her and I just listen to this man say not 1 fucking word as the ssa lady talked. Once done she paused wow this lawyer still just sat there? So I looked all around the office to find out a bit of who she was. And I started talking to her mother to mother. We talked together for over an hour. When we got outside this lawyer says we'll good luck your mom just scared you into loosing this case, I said well you didn't open your mouth not once! So since I did your part when we win don't expect a damn dime off us. 3 months later he was recertified as an adult disabled and true to my word I didn't give that worthless lawyer a damn cent. He called and called. The only bad I could see was handling his money if he wasn't living with me, but shit happens. Point here is never back down or give up or in when dealing with this stuff for our kids. Thanks for all you do

@blessed3877 I filed my original claim in November 2021 received my 1st denial in December 2021. My lawyer filed my reconsideration in May 2022 it was denied but we filed an appeal May 25, 2022. I had to wait for 16 months for my hearing with a judge which was in August 2023. Then my approval came in October 2023.

I found it very helpful and I now am also on a Medicaid waiver and have been approved for 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week for caregiver services, which provides thins like light housekeeping, personal care, driving me to appointments, etc. It’s been great for me and my family. My husband is one of my 2 aides , and he gets paid for 4 hours in the evening and every other weekend. It’s a nice side job for him and he gets paid for doing the things he’d be doing anyway as my husband.

I live in a very rural area. i am on ssdi but it doesn't pay the bills. I was offered a job riding a $10,000 lawn mower. it's a golf course mower. It's for a few hours a day and will only last around 6 months. If i'm able to tolerate it and not make my disability worse, could I do that and still keep my benefits?

I applied back in October, I have an appointment for the Disability Office on the 19th,in two weeks, I'm worried what they'll say because I'm homeless and I really need this! I'm homeless have ADD, MDD, Asthma, Schizophrenic, Lower Back issues to the point I can't stand or walk for long periods of time so I had to stop working last year and only had one job for a few mo the and prior to that job I haven't had a job since 2020 and even that job lasted only a few months and is initially where I really hurt my back even worse because it was physical labor and lifting railroad ties and all that etc.. Etc.. All my jobs only last a few mo the and I'm only in my mid 30's, my back issues did start at age 19 and progressively gotten worse since then, my ASTHE has gotten worse with super shortness of breath and I've mostly done Security as a job my whole life so far. And the walking and standing is something I cannot do and always get fired eventually, unfortunately!! And I'm not too overweight for I'm 225 for a male at 5'11" so I'm fairly normal size and wouldn't say my weight has anything to do with back issues I also can't bend down and it's hard to put socks n shoes on.. And besides all the back issues and not being able to bend and move and stand, my schizophrenic episodes freak people out which my coworkers and bosses in the past will make excuses as to why they let me go and they always lie. I've always been bullies and make fun of for it even at ALL my darn jobs. Ugh, I really should have gotten Workers Comp back in 2030 when I really hurt my back but anyways my mental health is ridiculous I get super depressed with PTSD as well as my MDD Major Depressive Dissorder! I have flashback and cry almost every night, and after I cry I get no feelings at all, I'm brainless thoughtless, have absolutely no feelings for anyone or anything, it's hard to keep relationships, and it started with seeing my mom die at age 16, gasping for air on the floor of her room... Etc.. Etc.. Etc... I'm STILL TRAUMATIZED and have PTSD from it, it constantly runs thru my mind, and all the stories my uncle used to tell me from the war with the photos he showed me as a child, also my Step Dad touched me as a child up to age 12 then stopped for some odd reason and that started at age 8 or 9 I can't remember.. I have alot of mental and physical issues.. So like is aid I have that appointment and can't wait to see if I get approved. I DO have medications for my issues and also have doctors and been to mental health clinics like a psych ward basically lol multiple times.. Anyways lol I keep going off track my mind runs and runs and runs ughh. Anyways okay so the day BEFORE my Disability appointment is an appointment that they set me up with to go get an MRI done on my back I guess to see if I'm really hurt and I really hope it shows something because I'm in constant pain!! No broken bones so maybe it's super still muscles and pinched nerves?! IDK I'm scared I hope I get approved??!... With all that nonsense being said so you or anyone else think I'll get approved??!..... Edit: I also graduated high school with an Adjusted Diploma due to my Learning Disability and being on the spectrum for tics as well!!.. Um...I am actually excited about this opening chapter in my life. I lost a good job, got a new one with promotion, had a stroke and on top of all my injuries and handicaps was persued by Dis/SSI. I am a strong man, but I struggle. In my life I taught myself how to craft, sew and draw. I am resourceful, at opportunities I bought a window washing kit, pro-carpet shampooer, and kept a vehicle. I volunteered in the city on a regular schedule, even shampooed carpets in my group home(s). This was before my stroke but after the injuries, now they often show their dark side with the stroke. I also finally feel I am sober, I am not sure about retaining my disibility due to my "hero mentality" I am sure I will need routine profession help to keep me realistic. Thank you

Can I ask on point 2, re: going to the doctors? I was told either surgery or there was nothing else that could be done for my foot condition. I'm following my body and my prior podiatrist I was seeing in another state who told me I'd know when I would need surgery. Right now, I'm able to tolerate the pain I get and have good and bad days. With a current podiatrist, what should I do? I don't want to keep going for him to tell me the same things, but after having my CR (long form) and continuance with no date of a next review I want to protect my benefits. I've had a Cash app account for a few years and I've never been penalized. Cash app is not a bank, it's a money transfer app. My best advice is ask a reputable source.
1) do not earn more than the maximum allowed/month...anything over will be deducted from your SSDI check. 2) find people who are like minded and not going to look down on you because your life took a turn and you have no other income. 3) If you can Volunteer do it, do something that gets you out of the house on a regular basis. 4) learn how to advocate for yourself, lawyers can unethical. it took 3 years for me to get an appointment with a judge, i had contracted with a law firm, they did not do their due diligence in collecting and cataloging my medical records and 2 weeks before meeting with the judge this "reputable lawyer" dropped me as a client. 5) you have the right to see your File that is being built in the SSA office, Check every few months to make sure the SSA is getting the information.

She knew she had it but when she applied for disability no doctor had ever put the name on it so her attorney sent her to a neurologist, got the name of the disease on the record and she got approved

I disagree with the advice to choose Medicare Part C or an Advantage Plan vs. Traditional Medicare A & B with a PDP Stand Alone Part D plan. Part C is purely for profit Medicare plans with major restrictions, red tape, and poor coverage for people needing to have multiple specialists and areas of ongoing medical care on disability. After the two year period I recommend traditional Medicare and a good PDP part D plan. If you are low income and get "Extra Help" your premiums could be Zero out of pocket and much more flexible coverage than part C plans trying to make a profit off your illnesses by limiting and restrictions on your access to healthcare.

I don't get what youre supposed to keep going to the doctor for for the rest of your life if your disability is stable and managed by not working? I have schueremann's disease and scoliosis and my spine doctor said I should try to avoid surgery. As long as I can lay down throughout the day and I'm really really careful with my activities and not sitting long in chairs etc. the pain is controlled so that's how I manage it. I've already tried PT and many many other treatments, had probably 30 scans, xrays, so much treatment done and I feel at a dead end with it now and just managing it by limiting activities is what works. So I'm not sure what else SSA would expect me to be seeing a doctor for and to try
I totally agree with you, I was involved in a serious accident that resulted in knee, foot and back surgery, with diagnosis of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis , nerve damage etc… my symptoms are the same every day, the Dr have basically told me there’s not much more they can do for me, I limit myself and understand if something isn’t right and I should seek treatment but it’s not something that happens every month
@ Yeah. I went back to my specialist recently, asked about some kind of long-term plan. He just gave me the same exercises and stretches to try (again). He said if I’m “doing ok” I can come back once a year. Well, I usually “do okay” as long as I don’t have to work or be too active, although I did just throw my back out from bending over. Still that’s not something that happens often since I can rest it as needed now

How membership? This was great information is there transportation picking up people to go to these events? My juice is working out at the gym. It's the only place that I can do what I want, where I want, & how I want. It's like therapy for me. When I work out, i am less angry and more grounded. I also eat & sleep better when I get a great workout session in.
Not necessarily, I am an SSDI recipient who has cerebral palsy with several comorbidities and developed a blood infection in 2020. I can volunteer because the people I volunteer for understand that if I'm in the hospital I'm just not going to be doing anything for them. If I had a job, which I tried to keep once I had the blood infection, it is very unpredictable whether I'll be able to work from one week to the next. That isn't a fair burden to put on my employer or the other staff; volunteering is different because you don't have to show up the same way you do for a paid job.

IKR, I am fine out of the house, I feel like the ole me, but once I step in my home I don't even bother turning on the lights. I am pathetic I think, I take naps and call people to express all sides of my emotional state and the hurdles life throws me. There are many like us. Those guardian angels have something up their sleeve, I have a good idea what it is. Also, have accepted death (unusual, but comforting) and left momentos and letters attached to items I have now.

I’m an RN - 58 yrs old & was bitten by a patient, pushed into a wall & had surgery to my hand & has slipped discs in my lower spine & neck as a result- I applied without a lawyer, got approved in one month & had my check literally the next month- my MD said that was almost unheard of and a blessing from God- I still have to have therapy and ongoing injections in my back & neck - I pray for all of you to be blessed with the financial help & get approved- we all work very hard & if we need help we should get it🙏🏽

I have been trying for disability for almost 7 years. I had my hearing last month and have to get a physical and psychiatric exams by the state next month.
I was denied my benefits for a little over three and a half years. The trial was over the phone because of Covid and I was treated like a criminal by the judge. I have worked for over fifty years of my life and never had been treated so badly. I don’t think I will ever have faith in our judicial system for the rest of my life. Our government and judicial systems need to be seriously revamped.😡😡🤬🤬
I am 65 have RA, asthma, chronic dizziness, dysautonomia, small vessel disease, bulging discs in neck, degenerative discs low back, bursitus in hip, and severe fatigue. I am going to my hearing in March as I have been denied 2 times already. Praying I get it this time.
You sir have a lot more wrong with you than I do it took me 4 years to win my S.S.D.I. case so i'd say don't sweat it I was denied more times than I can remember but I got it I ended up going before a Federal Judge who had the final word he made the decision alone my Lawyer told me after going before the Judge that it really came down to one question the Judge asked he asked me in the past year how many times did I have to go to the E.R. I said at least 50 they had my girlfriend come in and the Judge asked her the same question she said at least 50 case won. it sucked it took so long but they had to pay back from day one that I applied if you are doing it alone I suggest getting a Lawyer there is a set amount the Lawyer can collect and it was $4500 but well worth it with a lawyer no stress on you Good Luck.
If your complications prevent you from using your current "TRADE"skills to safely make a living with anylonger and your to old to learn a new "TRADE". You automatically qualify for disability.

I suffered from sudden fainting spells, the SSA said was panic attacks, that did not prevent me from going to work. They are right, it did not. However smoking 40 years began to prevent the use of a respirator required to use my trade skills to make a living with safely. I am to old to learn a new TRADE, so I automatically qualified on that basis. The SSA didn't give a damn about anything else wrong with me.

Yep I am researching for an acquaintance who was upper middle class and is now below poverty level. Someone should have a resource for assistance, coping and adjusting to the new reality. I wonder where legislators come up with these amounts for people to live on. His "income" is less than 1-bedroom rent in the entire county of 3M people.

I’ve been on state disability since Nov 2023 and was on SSDI from 2008-2015 for same conditions. I’m a single parent and my 16 year old also has bipolar and autism. My state disability claim ends Nov 2024. I doubt I’ll get approved for SSDI now, although I was approved within 3 months the first time. Maybe that will factor in now. I’m 54 now.
Do you know that SS will pay $750 for a dependant living with you. I don't know if that is per child because I received it for my son. It is worth checking in to...
I have a dear friend that lives with a spinal cord nerve injury; she was approved quickly with her first application. Years later SSD has come back and said she should never have been approved without a hearing (that’s not her fault) and hit her with back pay as well as stopping her benefit. When finally at a hearing (after all the 2020 mess and they started back up again) she was told her original doctor “didn’t keep adequate records at the time” and she would no longer qualify until she has new work experience.

I've had a somewhat similar experience, I'm disabled and applied for disability benefits when I was 17 and got denied because they didn't feel I was disabled enough.... Even tho I was born with Fetal Alcohol Syndrome (FAS) And I also have always had a bad back, hips and knees. And on top of all that I am in remission now after battling advanced stage 4 Lymphoma cancer. And I'm still not able to get SSDI.

A lot of the programs like free phones(ACP program), half off of things like Amazon prime and Walmart plus and some of the others are a lot easier to get if you are on SSI or have a food stamp card. You can still get them if you provide proof of income but it's a lot easier with an EBT card or if you are on some type of government assistance program.

i was denied three times: i finally ditched the lawyers, filled out the paperwork on my own and filed it myself - and was approved almost immediately.
This is terrible advice. Being denied several times is a part of the process. Having a lawyer significantly increases your chances of winning your case. Your previous denials all included paperwork and a track record of appointments and such that helped prove what you wrote on your successful paperwork. It doesn’t exist in a vacuum and trust me, without the lawyers ever having had been involved, your chance would have been so much lower.

Facts! My friends mom is disable, and she said to make sure you go to ALL your doctor's appts, follow all doctor's orders, AND get all medications filled. They can pull your file at anytime and if they see you are getting "treatment" for your condition. If not, they can drop you!
Well, I must be doing well there because I have five different doctors that I see. I was diagnosed with bladder cancer in 2012 and while the cancer was painful, the UTI's were far more painful than anything I have experienced in my life. I am feeling better now. I have issues since age 19 walking, standing for long periods of time and I'm in my mid 30's now. So disability set me up with an appointment for an MRI the day before my appointment to go see the disability office appointment. Along with alot of mental issues and I had a learning disability since school days and even have my adjusted diploma from high school because of it... Do you think I'll get approved I Mena I have MDD, ADD, PTSD, Learning disabilities, I'm on the spectrum with tics and schizophrenia as well... Medications and doctors to prove it and been hospitalized for them issues too....
One thing they can do is TELL US WHERE THEY ARE! I cannot tell you how many disability review forms are returned to our offices because they don’t call us to do a change of address and we have to stop the checks until we find them. Also tell us if you start working. Tell us if you stop working.
From a beneficiary perspective I understand how you feel. I've been asking my payee who lives in Florida for months to report that i moved to Texas and to put in a change of address. He said it's due to transportation issues why he hasn't done it yet but despite that he has been a great payee. It's my father

The important thing is to back up all medical documentation.
Have copies of your medical records in _your_ possession, not just at your doctor's office, so you won't have to even contact your doctor to get access to a record or document.
Have paper copies, but also save copies in your e-mail, on flashdrives _and_ cloud.
That way, you don't run the risk of losing your only copy of a record.

All my docs except my rheumatologist are local so I generally am able to access my records pretty quickly. I wonder if there's a way to share MyChart/Epic records if necessary, as I do have that for my rheum? I'm currently going through a CDR in order to switch from SSI to DAC and it's definitely nerve wracking to deal with even after all these years 😅
I came down with a crippling neurological condition that took me off my feet literally overnight. One day I was fine, the next morning I could barely stand up. Getting worse. It’s absolutely brutal. Losing my mind here. I went from working 6 days a week, tons of exercise, to barely able to walk. I can’t even exercise, so finding my “juice” has been difficult.

@@emiledarga9313 It's been horrendous. In 2022 I caught a terrible case of Lyme disease plus whatever else the ticks carried. Covered in rashes. Doctors suggested that every rash was a tick bite after seeing the pictures. It set off (what the doctors are saying) a rippling effect of an autoimmune response attacking small fiber nerves, upper motor neuron involvement, ME/CFS, and possible pancreatic problems (being explored now) as I developed reactive hypoglycemia, which could be causing even more problems. It also crashed my B12 levels, which could have even more implications. A simple 20 minute round trip walk once per month to the library causes a week long crash of severe pain, muscle problems, and a whole slew of other issues.
This sounds like me, it wound up being a severe allergy to black mold. I was almost dead for the past 7 years. My brain was bad and my CNS. Pray to God. Jesus saved me. It was a brutal time for me. I pray you find your “juice”. ❤

I feel like ur statement about the key to being approved is to actually be disabled, is incredibly ignorant and rude. My mother was horribly brain injured by a drunk driver. She had an attorney and was denied 5 times before being approved. I have fibromyalgia and have been told that even tho I can barely function on a good day, I have a slim chance of being approved because fibromyalgia is hard to prove. However, when I went to my hearing (I had a lawyer) there were *many* people in the room who seemed perfectly normal, laughing and joking about how they were gonna get approved, until time came for their hearing and then they were hunched over, moaning, having to hold onto someone to walk. It was ridiculous. There are a lot of fakers out there who make it harder for those of us who are truly disabled. Thankfully the judge saw that I was not faking, and granted me $1900+ a month. Granted that is based on what I put in, but as I understand it is a good amount.
My husband got his 1st social security check after being diagnosed with terminal cancer. They promptly took it back out of the bank when he died. You would think they could have let me keep that one check after totally supporting him and keeping up his medical insurance for over a year.

I was deemed totally and permanently disabled and medically retired at 55yrs, I got benefits but when I turned 65yrs, I received a letter which told me I was magically no longer disabled, I was just retired.

SSDI automatically converts to SSA retirement at the same base amount when you reach full retirement age. IIRC, offsets for WC benefits cease when you switch over to retirement and you're no longer subject to periodic medical review.

I’m eligible because of my disability to a gym membership (silver sneakers) but I’m too afraid to go because I don’t want to be “seen” as healthy enough to go exercise. Even though I’m just sitting in a chair all day decaying.
Could you ask your doctor if they thought it would help and what your limitations are? Then just work within those? I tried physical therapy to see if I could try exercising, it was bad and made me more sick. They pushed too hard too fast. That was a fail.
You should be allowed to keep your joints mobile. You have to keep your body moving, have your doctor state that.

I was ran over and pinned under a car for over an hour. I flat lined 3x. Heart attack, 3 brain bleeds, traumatic brain injury, tibia fracture, 2 compound femur fractures, pelvis fracture, hip replaced. Short term memory loss. I was denied SSD. Waitressed 20 years, day of accident I got called for a job I could not take due to the damage. Fractures don’t count. Full time I was a reviewer for Department of health working on state plan amendments. I guess my lack of memory ability does not count. I got a lawyer for the fight. I got benefits back from 2 years previous. Amen.

It would be nice for the SSA to discourage companies from applying an LTD offset clause when a person obtains disability.
People should get what the LTD policy has determined + disability payment, noe LTD determined amount - disability payment. The later keeps the amount from LTD the same over the duration of payment.

It's 20 degrees outside. I'm alone in my van in a grocery store parking lot. I have no legs. I can't drive. No one will help me. I want to go to a shelter but they won't take me unless I come inside the shelter. And I can't do that.

Call 911, have the hospital pick you up, see a doctor and get a wheelchair! Get you a primary care doctor there that will help you get a wheelchair! There's things you can still do bro! I fought for over 3 years, get 1200 a month, folks need to understand, disability is NOT a living wage.
I was also too proud to get help from others especially government programs. That all changed when I was very close to loosing my house. I finally woke up got a Lawyer, was qualified with my conditions 3 years later was approved. I recieved food card and medicaid that I needed to get into Dr appointmens. It was a struggle but finally got approved. Im 62 single worked all my life paying in to the system so decided to fight hard.

And as to my juice? Got that figured out. Spent last 35 years working as RN. Plan on next however many years volunteering at Humane Society. I'm a 100% Total and Permanent disabled veteran, didn't know about VA disability until a few years ago, recently approved at 100% - after an appeal; took about 10 years. In the interim from the onset of total disability, I had SSI with medicaid; but with enough work history to qualify for SSA retirement that I plan to start at age 62. My SSI specifies it is due to disability. Question, "do I have to apply for SSDI or is it automatic due to my SSI due to disability". Hope someone can help shine some light on this. My son who was molested at a private school by o teacher. The school provided my no skills on how to deal with him at home saying they made me a legal killer? Anyway so to be able to afford the psych meds and therapy he most definitely needed at this time of his life. He had just graduated high school and vo-tech as well as a chef. A place he was hospitalized in at a young age it was obvious that they wanted me to apply for disability for him (so the school could cash in too on my son's situation and iq test said 141 iq. Along with and his feelings confused sexuality questions that never left his thoughts after all this Perverted man who started touching him at 7 years old that school called me at work when my son was 10 years old saying they had placed him on the plane alone and I should get to Philly Airport to meet his plane and pick him up. Later found out they'd sent 2 of the older boys my son and his roommate both a bit older than their other affected boys my kid however was not only smart but charming and articulate and was anxious to tell all of your secrets? I never have so far right! So I had done all the legwork to apply for ssi disability for him when was dealing with some heavy demons. It went right through first try and they even back dated to age 6 when the abuse started. At 18 they unceremoniously announce he's no longer a minor so he can't stay here after he graduates and also theyd stopped his ssd and announced in front of everyo n e that ive never entertained a man in my bedroom but my fiancé fuck now what I thought? Well him thinking he was grown and wanted to be his own payee he calls us a disability lawyer and hires him on a contingent plan . Giving this guy 40% of his settlement to this man for a phone call so he could drop me controlling his checks? This lawyer was totally useless. So on his interview in person day I went with my son. We go into the directors office all 4 of us counting her and I just listen to this man say not 1 fucking word as the ssa lady talked. Once done she paused wow this lawyer still just sat there? So I looked all around the office to find out a bit of who she was. And I started talking to her mother to mother. We talked together for over an hour. When we got outside this lawyer says we'll good luck your mom just scared you into loosing this case, I said well you didn't open your mouth not once! So since I did your part when we win don't expect a damn dime off us. 3 months later he was recertified as an adult disabled and true to my word I didn't give that worthless lawyer a damn cent. He called and called. The only bad I could see was handling his money if he wasn't living with me, but shit happens. Point here is never back down or give up or in when dealing with this stuff for our kids. Thanks for all you do

@blessed3877 I filed my original claim in November 2021 received my 1st denial in December 2021. My lawyer filed my reconsideration in May 2022 it was denied but we filed an appeal May 25, 2022. I had to wait for 16 months for my hearing with a judge which was in August 2023. Then my approval came in October 2023.

I found it very helpful and I now am also on a Medicaid waiver and have been approved for 12 hrs a day, 7 days a week for caregiver services, which provides thins like light housekeeping, personal care, driving me to appointments, etc. It’s been great for me and my family. My husband is one of my 2 aides , and he gets paid for 4 hours in the evening and every other weekend. It’s a nice side job for him and he gets paid for doing the things he’d be doing anyway as my husband.

I’m making about 800 a month and I was told as long as I make under 1110 a month. Should I report that I got a job if making under $1110.00 a month and can I lose my disability since I’m testing the waters and working only 15 hours a week. I’m so confused

I live in a very rural area. i am on ssdi but it doesn't pay the bills. I was offered a job riding a $10,000 lawn mower. it's a golf course mower. It's for a few hours a day and will only last around 6 months. If i'm able to tolerate it and not make my disability worse, could I do that and still keep my benefits?

I applied back in October, I have an appointment for the Disability Office on the 19th,in two weeks, I'm worried what they'll say because I'm homeless and I really need this! I'm homeless have ADD, MDD, Asthma, Schizophrenic, Lower Back issues to the point I can't stand or walk for long periods of time so I had to stop working last year and only had one job for a few mo the and prior to that job I haven't had a job since 2020 and even that job lasted only a few months and is initially where I really hurt my back even worse because it was physical labor and lifting railroad ties and all that etc.. Etc.. All my jobs only last a few mo the and I'm only in my mid 30's, my back issues did start at age 19 and progressively gotten worse since then, my ASTHE has gotten worse with super shortness of breath and I've mostly done Security as a job my whole life so far. And the walking and standing is something I cannot do and always get fired eventually, unfortunately!! And I'm not too overweight for I'm 225 for a male at 5'11" so I'm fairly normal size and wouldn't say my weight has anything to do with back issues I also can't bend down and it's hard to put socks n shoes on.. And besides all the back issues and not being able to bend and move and stand, my schizophrenic episodes freak people out which my coworkers and bosses in the past will make excuses as to why they let me go and they always lie. I've always been bullies and make fun of for it even at ALL my darn jobs. Ugh, I really should have gotten Workers Comp back in 2030 when I really hurt my back but anyways my mental health is ridiculous I get super depressed with PTSD as well as my MDD Major Depressive Dissorder! I have flashback and cry almost every night, and after I cry I get no feelings at all, I'm brainless thoughtless, have absolutely no feelings for anyone or anything, it's hard to keep relationships, and it started with seeing my mom die at age 16, gasping for air on the floor of her room... Etc.. Etc.. Etc... I'm STILL TRAUMATIZED and have PTSD from it, it constantly runs thru my mind, and all the stories my uncle used to tell me from the war with the photos he showed me as a child, also my Step Dad touched me as a child up to age 12 then stopped for some odd reason and that started at age 8 or 9 I can't remember.. I have alot of mental and physical issues.. So like is aid I have that appointment and can't wait to see if I get approved. I DO have medications for my issues and also have doctors and been to mental health clinics like a psych ward basically lol multiple times.. Anyways lol I keep going off track my mind runs and runs and runs ughh. Anyways okay so the day BEFORE my Disability appointment is an appointment that they set me up with to go get an MRI done on my back I guess to see if I'm really hurt and I really hope it shows something because I'm in constant pain!! No broken bones so maybe it's super still muscles and pinched nerves?! IDK I'm scared I hope I get approved??!... With all that nonsense being said so you or anyone else think I'll get approved??!.....
Edit: I also graduated high school with an Adjusted Diploma due to my Learning Disability and being on the spectrum for tics as well!!..

Um...I am actually excited about this opening chapter in my life. I lost a good job, got a new one with promotion, had a stroke and on top of all my injuries and handicaps was persued by Dis/SSI. I am a strong man, but I struggle. In my life I taught myself how to craft, sew and draw. I am resourceful, at opportunities I bought a window washing kit, pro-carpet shampooer, and kept a vehicle. I volunteered in the city on a regular schedule, even shampooed carpets in my group home(s). This was before my stroke but after the injuries, now they often show their dark side with the stroke. I also finally feel I am sober, I am not sure about retaining my disibility due to my "hero mentality" I am sure I will need routine profession help to keep me realistic. Thank you

You can negotiate a cash discount with some doctors and go ' old school' and just pay for point of service.

Can I ask on point 2, re: going to the doctors? I was told either surgery or there was nothing else that could be done for my foot condition. I'm following my body and my prior podiatrist I was seeing in another state who told me I'd know when I would need surgery. Right now, I'm able to tolerate the pain I get and have good and bad days. With a current podiatrist, what should I do? I don't want to keep going for him to tell me the same things, but after having my CR (long form) and continuance with no date of a next review I want to protect my benefits. Just need a little guidance please.

I've had a Cash app account for a few years and I've never been penalized. Cash app is not a bank, it's a money transfer app. My best advice is ask a reputable source.
I have cash app and paypal
1) do not earn more than the maximum allowed/month...anything over will be deducted from your SSDI check. 2) find people who are like minded and not going to look down on you because your life took a turn and you have no other income.
3) If you can Volunteer do it, do something that gets you out of the house on a regular basis.
4) learn how to advocate for yourself, lawyers can unethical. it took 3 years for me to get an appointment with a judge, i had contracted with a law firm, they did not do their due diligence in collecting and cataloging my medical records and 2 weeks before meeting with the judge this "reputable lawyer" dropped me as a client.
5) you have the right to see your File that is being built in the SSA office, Check every few months to make sure the SSA is getting the information.

So many here suffering. It took me 2 years, but I got a lawyer. He did it in 6 months. So many wont do this because they dont want to give a lawyer any money. Mine took 10% if what I got and was worth every penny.

Also get a definitive diagnosis from a doctor. I had a friend who had a rare muscular disease that was genetic. She knew she had it but when she applied for disability no doctor had ever put the name on it so her attorney sent her to a neurologist, got the name of the disease on the record and she got approved
I had to get a lawyer and in three weeks I got on disability with backpay. Just saying if you want to get on disability you should get a lawyer.
I didn't realize there was a way to not have to pay for Medicare aside from not taking it!

I disagree with the advice to choose Medicare Part C or an Advantage Plan vs. Traditional Medicare A & B with a PDP Stand Alone Part D plan. Part C is purely for profit Medicare plans with major restrictions, red tape, and poor coverage for people needing to have multiple specialists and areas of ongoing medical care on disability. After the two year period I recommend traditional Medicare and a good PDP part D plan. If you are low income and get "Extra Help" your premiums could be Zero out of pocket and much more flexible coverage than part C plans trying to make a profit off your illnesses by limiting and restrictions on your access to healthcare.

However, there is a solid argument that Medicare Supplement (Medigap) plans can offer better coverage for some individuals, especially those who need to see multiple specialists or have ongoing medical care needs.

That's exactly what I have !! You have to get on state benefits too..that how you don't have to pay for part A an B Medicare.. My SSD is very low..so I Qualified easily...

I don't get what youre supposed to keep going to the doctor for for the rest of your life if your disability is stable and managed by not working? I have schueremann's disease and scoliosis and my spine doctor said I should try to avoid surgery. As long as I can lay down throughout the day and I'm really really careful with my activities and not sitting long in chairs etc. the pain is controlled so that's how I manage it. I've already tried PT and many many other treatments, had probably 30 scans, xrays, so much treatment done and I feel at a dead end with it now and just managing it by limiting activities is what works. So I'm not sure what else SSA would expect me to be seeing a doctor for and to try
I totally agree with you, I was involved in a serious accident that resulted in knee, foot and back surgery, with diagnosis of osteoarthritis, osteoporosis , nerve damage etc… my symptoms are the same every day, the Dr have basically told me there’s not much more they can do for me, I limit myself and understand if something isn’t right and I should seek treatment but it’s not something that happens every month
@ Yeah. I went back to my specialist recently, asked about some kind of long-term plan. He just gave me the same exercises and stretches to try (again). He said if I’m “doing ok” I can come back once a year. Well, I usually “do okay” as long as I don’t have to work or be too active, although I did just throw my back out from bending over. Still that’s not something that happens often since I can rest it as needed now

I’ve been receiving a disability check from social security for about 8yrs now. Just at the end of the year. I was approved for disability thru the VA which put a little more in my pocket. How would the VA disability affect my SSI benefits? And SSI disability is for my eyesight, would the VA disability is for my back and hands. How membership? This was great information is there transportation picking up people to go to these events? This would be fantastic if not .Truth TBI people if like me hold back going from stressing of just getting there . Over thinking confusion and cost . I have found change of MY job location I would spend 3 times the amounts getting in and out of ubers that cost my days pay .
My juice is working out at the gym. It's the only place that I can do what I want, where I want, & how I want.
It's like therapy for me. When I work out, i am less angry and more grounded. I also eat & sleep better when I get a great workout session in.
The issue about Volunteering is that if you can volunteer you can work, true or not?

Not necessarily, I am an SSDI recipient who has cerebral palsy with several comorbidities and developed a blood infection in 2020. I can volunteer because the people I volunteer for understand that if I'm in the hospital I'm just not going to be doing anything for them. If I had a job, which I tried to keep once I had the blood infection, it is very unpredictable whether I'll be able to work from one week to the next. That isn't a fair burden to put on my employer or the other staff; volunteering is different because you don't have to show up the same way you do for a paid job.
Type 1 for 30 years now diagnosed when I was 9.. it’s been a shit show ever since.. I’ve tried everything to make it better it never goes away! It’s 24/7 disease.. I can’t work anymore. Mental health is gone.. eating is hard doing anything is a struggle ! ☹️😭

I don’t go to doctor much anymore, they can’t do anything but give pills and give shots in my tailbone (never again)…I need to have a prosthetic disc removed and was told to put off as long as possible
