"Strangers passing in the street
By chance two separate glances meet
And I am you and what I see is me" - Echoes
tout le texte est une merveille de poésie
One of the greatest lyrical lines of all time, imo.
"And do I take you by the hand, and lead you through the land, and help me understand the best I can."
The world could use a little empathy right now. Pink Floyd is forever relevant.
Those few words have so much meaning. The emotions felt while listening are so strong.
They were young and in my opinion, this album is their breakthrough album.
To me it’s a song about evolution. In the same sense, rock was evolving too.
A group of great musicians got together and created an Art Form not just a band. The greatest band of all time and a journey that never leaves you..
Both of you are exactly correct about how timeless Pink Floyd is. I will say in 50 years from now, people will be amazed by the sound of their music and how it makes them feel. To me, they are the best group ever to appear.
The words you're searching for is that you are having a spiritual experience when you listen to Pink Floyd. It goes that deep. I don't even know if THEY understood that at the time. It's as if they were channeling from another place. Ethereal.
The whole Pink Floyd live at Pompeii is outstanding and worth watching. Please do more of their earlier songs. Try Shine on you Crazy Diamond parts 1 thru 5 and 6 thru 9 studio version.
Oh yes, there's a part 2 indeed 😊
And you can imagine the emotions when David Gilmour went back in 2016..
Once upon a time, David Gilmour and Richard Wright allowed themselves to play even without t-shirts 😂
Bravo for your reaction 👏
This band was the background music to my life. I have listened to them for a long time - it always sounds fresh and still takes me on a journey. I'm 67 now and still love them👌
Great reaction guys. Always a pleasure to share great music with you👍🙊👍
Never ever get sick of this song 😅
I discovered these guys when I was 18 and I have listened to them religiously for over 50 years!! A day doesn't pass that I don't listen to Floyd!! I am now an old man with a number of health issues and PF music helps with my pain and helps me stay focused on life especially from a spiritual perspective. They are a gift!!
I could have written the above myself. I was introduced to PF when I was 18 too and Ummagumma and a Saucerfull of Secrets really charted a musical course for me. Yes the aches and pains seem to disappear when immersed in PF for the umpteenth time.........
I'm 51. Friend at 15 years old said, I have something you need to listen to. And he set me down between 2 tower speakers and played Comfortably Numb. Been listening to Floyd nearly every day ever since. Old phone on the night stand through a BT speaker, I fall asleep to 2nd side of Dark Side, then this, Echoes Pompeii, SOYCD Pulse, and Gilmour's acoustic SOYCD every night.
That first time hearing Comfortably Numb I said I'll play it on the guitar some day. Now I play most of Dark Side, SOYCD both electric and acoustic, several off of Division Bell. I've never played Comfortably Numb. If I play it (especially Pulse version) I won't have anything I could ever play again as I would have played the greatest solo ever played.
Hope that you will get better! Love from Sweden!
I'm old I would like to discover them, I'm happy to look at Youngs reactions, it makes me happy
Even I
Pink Floyd’s music is defined as music from under ground, the drummer Nick Mason as well as David Gilmour are geniuses from the earlier years, and your reaction is still the best emotional one done in all the reactions groups for songs.
David Gilmour performed Echoes live at Gdańsk. full version and it is unforgettable. You would absolutely love it! Dave and Ricks ending is so beautiful.
Live in Gdansk is probably the best version i've ever hezrd
Theres part 2 in this concert as well. The David Gilmour live in Gdansk version is the best one particularly the ending. It was the last performance before Richard Wright passed from cancer and the emotion in the ending sequence is like nothing heard before. It truly is ECHOES.
It’s my favorite version
I agree!!
Completely agree....they owe it to themselves to watch this version at some point!!
Yes, the mastery of the song by Gilmour and Wright for 30+ years and the musical goodbye between them makes "Echoes - live a Gdansk" the best version.
@@christhompson9140agree 100%
Thanks so much for that. I have been with Pink Floyd since1968 I am 73 now and still listen to them every week between then and 2019 Great day for freedom there is a very deep rabbit hole best band ever . They were always different and will never be replaced
To me also, greatest band that ever existed
Just Pink Floyd and the crew in Pompeii 💥 classic
You forgot the ghosts. Peace/JT
This was a actually a concert film directed by Adrian Maben They were performing at ancient Roman amphitheater in Pompei Italy. There were other songs played there on set. They were Echoes Part 2 and eleven other songs. David Gilmour was only 25 in the video.
This concert was given for the ghosts of pompeii ... by the way, this was only part 1 of 2.
The backstory to this song is so sad. Saucer full of secrets is my favorite just shows how talented these guys were
Great reaction once again😄😄 Talking of maturity, in an interview drummer Nick Mason described Roger Waters as "the youngest 50 year old.." when talking about his fantastic, worldly-wise lyrics. Edit: PS There's a fantastic version of Echoes by David Gilmour - Live In Gdańsk I think you'll like if you haven't seen it already. Also, there's a part 2 to this video as well. I don't why it was posted on UA-cam in two parts. Best wishes.
reason "time"
The second part was played at the end of the pompeii live set so i guess it was always meant to be lisened to seperately
Pink Floyd was a experimental band at first and they grew to make their way to excellence to the Great band they are now.
Everything they release is a journey of the emotions and the mind.
I had the pleasure of seeing them in 1973 in Canada at a soccer stadium. They played the whole dark side of the moon album and the wall. They take you on a journey from start to finish. Greatest concert I have ever been to and a visual show like no other.
I saw Pink Floyd live in concert in 1973. They performed Dark Side of the Moon album. It was PERFECT 🤩 We all sat there speechless in stunned silence staring at them, hypnotized by the perfection of their concert. By far the best concert I’ve EVER HEARD OR SCENE 🥰💜👏
One,of the Best Song...in the World...
This was the first time Richard Wright and Dave Gilmore performed echoes now go to echoes live in Gdańsk and see the last time they performed it just before Richard Wright died, very emotional I think you both will cry 😢
I agree 100% with knowing about Pink Floyd and then understanding Pink Floyd. The groove in the song, when Richard and David are going back and forth, in my opinion is one of the best grooves ever. You guys are awesome thank you!
watch "Gdansk" version and as Dave said once that you will see the 2 playing back and forth like they are talking to each other. Sad to watch as this tour would be their last. They did play David Gilmours " Barn Jams with just the 4 of then playing no sing.,.there is record over 200 jams. start with 121
And just think Dark Side, The Wall, Animals etc we’re still in their futures. A wonderful record, fun reaction.
Doesn't matter if you missed out. But now you have arrived. Enjoy pink Floyd for as long as you can.
Them music geniuses blew me away as a kid and still do so now when I listen to them again. And this has to be one of the greatest audio/visual masterpieces ever!
One word "MASTERPIECE "
This is my favourite live footage off all time. The eery ambience in the ancient Roman city of Pompeii that was wiped out by mount vesuvius in 79 AD and the brilliance off the band is a magic mix. I whent to Naples snd Pompeii last year and had to play echoes on my headset at this amphitheatre. It was quite special.
PURE GENIUS, EACH MEMBER…. PUT IT ALL TOGETHER N OUT COMES PINK FLOYD… FLOAT AWAY WITH MASTERS OF THE EMOTIONAL UNIVERSE
YOU ARE SOOOO RIGHT, EPIC N TIMELESS
The most badass funky grind... with syncopated drums fills and licks.
You guys are wonderful, love your reactions! Just want to "echo" what others have said, please do part 2, and you should also check out Echoes on David Gilmour Live in Gdansk - the last performance with David and Rick.
Well, Echoes is a particularly brilliant song. In that scenario it becomes sublime. Note that every PF member is at the top of their ability in 1971. Even Roger has an incredible performance in the bass. And he is very underrated as a bass player. Please, do not forget to react to Waters solo career too. He was and still is an fomidable composer, and his shows are pure madness.
Watching the two of you discovering Pink Floyd brings me great joy.
The power of David Gilmour's guitar totally engulfs you any takes you to another realm. A truly magnificent piece of music 😅
Geniuses then, now and forever, great reaction as always guys 👏👏👏👏✌️
I guess i must be very bright and ahead of my time by your standards! I’m in my 50’s and remember watching this when i was in university in the early 90’s. Back in those days, i had a steady diet of Pink Floyd (minus the wall which i never liked,) Frank Zappa, Phish, The Grateful Dead, John McLaughlin, Metallica, Soundgarden and The Melvins and Jimi Hendrix.
This rendition of Echoes illustrates how Pink Floyd is indeed an experience vs a performance. It is still as fresh now as it was in 1992 and 1972.
Always enjoy your reactions to PF and the recognition that a certain level of maturity is required to understand the depth and quality of it all! It was always their goal to provide a complete experience for the attendee rather than just a show! In 2004, PF's drummer, Nick Mason published a book titled 'Inside Out' - a personal history of Pink Floyd. As you seem pretty interested in the band, I recommend that you try to locate a copy as it is very well written, full of history, humor, and awesome pictures as well! Cheers to you both!
I’ve been listening to Pink Floyd for 37 years now (I am 49). I always have the same thoughts. It’s complex but it’s also simple, if that makes any sense. It’s simple in that it makes you feel something, and there is nothing more simple than that. The music is not terribly complex but because of that, it touches you somehow because it speaks to you. And yes there is complexity in that, because most music doesn’t quite do that for you. Maybe authenticity is the right word
You are so right! This is timeless. In 500 years from now people will still be amazed! Tip: two other songs from the same concert, " Set the controls for the heart of the sun " and " Be careful with that axe, Eugene! ". Try them and enjoy.
I watched this in a movie theater in 1972 and was blown away ;) I watched them live 2 years later and have been a fan ever since ;)
Think about it! 79AD Pompeii and here is PF playing there! Amazing Band!
They wanted to play live in the amphitheater at Pompeii for the acoustic sound. They took a film crew in 1972 and recorded their new album “Meddle” live.
It was filmed and released in cinema’s and theatres in UK & Europe.
Sort of music video promotion 10 years before music videos !
Me and my best friend Tony went to see it at our local cinema and were blown away ! We were 14 at the time
Now I am 64 and regularly play / watch the dvd of that film “Pink Floyd Live in Pompeii”
I am much younger than you and I have been listening to them for more than 15 years now and I still love their music like I have discovered them for the first time.
Performed by and for the band, crew and ghosts. Also, there is a story of two local young boys that were lucky enough to sit and witness this performance. This was the first performance at this venue since the early year of 79 CE. As well as listening to the second half of this performance I strongly suggest watching Gilmour's concert in 2016 when he returned to Pompeii to be the first to perform for an actively alive audience since the place was buried back in 79 CE. Peace/JT
I just watched all your Pink Floyd videos and I've been crying during all of them. PF's music is indescribably beautiful to me and I think about it often and words are always too clumsy to describe how it affects me. I watch a lot of PF reactions and everyone has the same general lack of adequate words to describe what they just listened to but they're all deeply moved. Some people cry, some laugh, some get goose bumps or start sweating. It's so interesting. There's a real, literal magic to PF's music.
Something I always think about when watching them play in this video and in later concerts at this very old theatrical setting, and time being what it is, is Pink Floyd affecting the experiences of people in the past in the same location? Events imprint places and time's a lot weirder and slipperier than we're brought up to believe. This is the frame of mind Pink Floyd puts me in.
Love you two 💗
You're awesome people. Love ur reviews 🤗
They were on another level.
Please. If you guys get the chance, watch the whole film of this concert. It is amazing to see some of their early music performed live. 'Echoes' parts 1 & 2 are from the 'Meddle' album.
I first saw the original film in a little independent theater, back in 1974, with a 5000 watt sound system set up around the screen. Fantastic experience, for a 16yo kid.
It was recorded in 1972 and released in 1973, and they were already working on the 'Dark Side Of The Moon' album. So I already had 'Meddle' & 'Dark Side Of The Moon'.
I am convinced that this is the best song ever created
And you tought thats all? Hahaha there is a second part boys, nice reaction!!
I’m mesmerized by your guys reaction to David Gilmour’s awesome guitar solo. I feel exactly the same way. What an awesome feeling!
pink floyd has their own time zone :D indeed!
One of these days from Pompeii is brilliant too
Very relatable reactions, you both! I kind of feel the same...
Watch the whole movie Live in Pompeii, it is a mind blowing masterpiece! Part II of Echoes too. It is filmed as a movie. No public, just the volcano and the ruins of Pompei. Gilmour did Live in Pompeii several years ago.
They are sooooooo CEREBRAL
Genius they were in the 70ies, because just about everything you watched so far was composed in the 70ies ... you watch them later, you get good old wine.
I first watched this at UT Austin and fell in love with them in 1984 at the tender age of 19
Y, timeless beauty... They will we're kinda enlihted, they felt the spirit and humanity in an unpretought was, imho opinion this is the greatest way to describe how the human potential is able to evolve...they will be remembered like Beethoven & Bach in 500 years 🙏
They are the master at their craft - I have been so lucky to see them from the start to their finish and still today day they are still a head of their time.
Pink Floyd are quality for sure. Little Aussie band, could give them a challenge 🙂
@@10shamus Not on your life.
Fab reaction 👍
Awesome live P F..ever great...
Totally agree! Pink Floyd is an experience.
More than Just music Absolutely
Wow, the first time I heard Pink Floyd I was 14. it was 1968 we grew with the music. I urge you to get 'meddle' and give it a listen. My first introduction was with 'Atom heart mother' the times were different, day glow paint, flower power, hippies. The main stream had the Beatles and Rolling Stones but at the fringe were bands like this. I am glad the younger generations are discovering Pink Floyd still. Their music and lyrics speak the human experience.
I think Pink Floyd music, is for a more mature mind. I heard PF music on the radio in the 80's and 90's, but I was in my teens and twenties, so life was moving so fast, it just brushed by me. It wasn't until my 30's, when my mind started to think deeper and was more focused, that their music started to have meaning to me. Now in my 50's, I listen to Pink Floyd almost daily.
Pink Floyd will come to you when you really need it!..
For me, watching this video, I'm struck by how young and beautiful the boys are and it makes me wonder how they ever came to make music so deep and meaningful at such a young age, truely remarkable. I love your discussion on the Pink Floyd conundrum, it will be debated for decades to come.
I was 11 when I first heard this song. We referred to it as space rock. This is Pink Floyd's epic masterpiece. Their best performance is at the Royal Albert Hall. Amazing
I was fortunate enough to grow up with this music. From the early sixties, when very young, I was drawn to complex music. The very best, including Pink Floyd, has not dated at all and still pleases me.
always the better reacts - thanks guys
I hope to be as cool as Andrei and Dominika one day. Keep on r'actin .
My favorite live concert dvd !!
I Saw them do echoes in 1975 in Pittsburgh and 1977 in Cleveland unbelievable
I am 27 and I was fortunate enough to grow up with this music and all the other classic rock that emerged from the 60s and 70s thanks to my parents who lived it...Pink Floyds music is universal and eternal....thanks for sharing your experience of hearing for the first time...much enjoyed...peace
looking at BLACK METAL TEENS HEARING PINK FLOYD
Thank you!!
Final "Echoes"performance with Richard Wright (Pink Floyd) HDPinkfloyd . The best version. Amazing
nothing like smoking a long one listening to pf watching you guys reaction,, the best
Now you need to hear part two.
Another must, Pink Floyd live "On the turning away"
One of my first concert ... I was almost 15 and it was in the 70 in Paris ... The concert was in 2 parts ... The first one was echoes part 1 and two and the second was the dark side of the moon ... An Experience I am unable to forget ... I saw them after 2 or 3 times ... (One on my best memory was the day of baccalaureat (I was 16) ... In the evening I saw them again in concert ... My only think as I was waiting for french oral was "When will it finish as I can go to this concert ???? !!!!". it :)
❤ This performance evokes so much emotion. Every time again. As you said, one has to be ready for it to receive it. This song absolutely took a bit longer for me to 'get it'. I already was a PF fan for many years, when that moment suddenly was there. I had heard it several times before, but when the magic finally touched me... oh boy!
You two are lovely! I promise there are mid 20 people now being just as mature, thorough and creative in their music now(-ish)! The Band Crumb comes to mind. Their song "Locket" is just as enchanting as many floyd songs in my humble opinion!
This concert video was my first exposure to Pink Floyd back in 6th grade in the gymnasium for $.10 and a little bag of popcorn was also $.10. Subscribed!
Don't feel bad I'm 66yrs old and rarely listened to there music when I was young. Now they have become my favorite band ever.Kick myself everyday knowing I could have attended at least one of these concerts.
As the saying goes - you don’t listen to Pink Floyd, you experience them
Great reaction thanks greetings
Your Floyd journey is very enjoyable, well done….please listen to the definitive version of Echoes, the last ever before Richard died. It’s the greatest live performance of anything by anyone, ever, imo. It’s under David Gilmour live in Gdańsk. It’ll change your life..
I agree with you Al. The fact that it was the last time they(David and Richard) were able to perform it together makes it so special.
TALK ABOUT GOOSEBUMPS..!!!
I HAVE TO WONDER…. HOW MANY PEOPLE WERE OUTSIDE THE COLISEUM WHEN THIS WAS RECORDED
Pure emotion 🤘🤘
Please don't forget to watch Part 2 of this as this is just half of this amazing song and performance.
Tutto il concerto da cui è stato fatto anche il film Pink Foyd a Pompei è un capolavoro
When your as good as pink Floyd you don't need an audience
Another great reaction guys x
Love this ❤❤❤❤🇬🇧
The main thing is you are here now, never to late to enjoy Pink floyd.
Pink Floyd actually did play live in that arena, but many years later. Ater 2000.
Subbed. I have been 'lurcking' and Really enjoying your reaction videos. Your talking and commenting on the songs/musicians is very enjoyable and enlightening. Thank you ... and looking forward to your next one.
