It came to my attention that my guide is incomplete and in some parts very wrong even. I asked for feedback on reddit and I got very good responses as to the things I got wrong and if you want to know what these were, I suggest you read the thread. Hello guys. I would strongly suggest you to read the description. Apparently my obsession over max affinity doesn't apply with the switch axe. Critical eye is not bad but with monsters being more mobile etc, maximum might is not as good of a skill, unless the monster is permanently locked from let's say your palamutes offline. Weakness exploit is a good skill to have at all times for the potential extra damage. Go for Chain crit 1 as a minimum for your SwitchAxe builds. Try to go for a lot of Attack Boost. Protective Polish + Speed sharpen is the best choice for sharpness. Also, handicraft is an amazing skill since it can push a lot of the weapons I showed into purple sharpness and stay in purple with protective polish. Power Prolonger is a bit better if you use a Power Phial on multiplayer (since the monster won't target you all the time in order to do good counters) and Power phials AMP gauge fills up quite slow.

You have an Axe that transforms into a goddamn sword. What's that? Charge Blade does the same thing? You don't need that pussy ass shield. With the Switchiest of Axes, you don't need a shield, because it's all about that MANLY DEE-PEE-ASS, baby. You got hops. You got rolls. If you get hit, take it like a MAN. I don't care if you're male, female or Gigginox. Hack-and-slash? You're damn right. They don't call this fancy dildo the Slash Axe back in Japan for nothin', son.
Having trouble keeping up with that Great Jaggi because you have to sheathe every five seconds? YOU PIECE OF DUNG. you ever seen a Greatsword user slowly plod across the map with his gigantic peni- I mean, sword in hand? Your Sword mode is just as big, so you have to sheathe it, right? WRONG, SUCKER. Roll after that Beastie. Evade Extender will give you the boost your puny chicken legs need to keep up with the monster. Ever wanted to be a Konchu? Well, now you'll be rolling all over the damn place for that sweet, sweet manly DEE-PEE-ASS. And when the monster falls down, what do you do?
You blow your fuckin' load all across their face, that's what. X+A in sword mode for that delicious explosive burst that will take a chunk out of your bar and sharpness, but will also obliterate a pretty part of the monster's body. If you're a bit of a pussy and need to pull out (heh), pull the circle pad back and you'll do a premature e... explosion that doesn't take nearly as long. Nothing is manlier than EXPLOSIONS, except maybe Evade Extender. (GET IT. YOU PUSSY)
But it's called the Switch Axe, not the Switch Blade. (Wazzat? Charge Blade? Giggit out of here) That means the Axe is equally as capable as the Sword. You ever used the Axe of the Charge Blade? That thing is slower than a drowsy Basarios. Not this Axe. This Axe is a hurricane, a storm of manly steel, and it has stupidly huge range. Ever wished your little toothpick SnS and Dual Blades could reach that Gravios tail that dangles oh-so-close but just out of reach? AXE MODE, KELBITCH. That motherfucker is the Deviljho dick in a land of Jaggis. Every tail in the game is yours, every one of them (except maybe Fatalis, he's a bastard). And what happens when you upswing a teammate? COME ON AND SLAM, AND WELCOME TO JAPAN
And did you know which weapon has the manliest DEE-PEE-ASS when a monster has fallen? SWITCH AXE, APTOFUCKA. Upswing into rapid chops will turn any monster into choice cuts for sale at the hunter's market later. Do this on the tail a few times and soon you'll hear the tasty sound of it falling off. Get used to this sound, because soon you'll be chopping off tails everywhere and drown in Mantles and Palliums. The Manly Chops of Doom ain't nuttin to mess around with.
You know that huge diddlydong you're slapping against that monster's thighs? No, I don't mean that, I mean your Switch Axe, which I'm sure you've picked up by now because it's the MANLIEST. Turns out that not only is it a diddlydong, it's a transforming diddlydong. Tilting the Circle Pad forward and pressing X in Axe mode makes you do a short forward stab, then hit R and X after then to MANLY SHIFT into Sword mode with a slash. OR, you can do the MANLY CHOPS OF DOOM, then finish it off with a tap of R to do this magnificent Reverse Roundhouse Slash. After the RRS, hit that R one more time to MANLY SHIFT into Sword Mode. In Sword Mode, whenever your sword sweeps horizontally, R+X shifts you back into Axe form to EXPAND DONG. (seriously, the Axe is so fucking long.)
Switch Axe is versatile, too. You want extra MANLINESS? Get a power phial. Want to see that monster pant for breath as you turn it into the next main course? Exhaust Phials. You can even KO the monster if you're manly enough. Want to support your significantly less manly teammates? Para Phial, Poison Phial, blah blah, they're all yours. Or is the monster weak to element? Get that element phial, or use the Dragon phial (because we all know Dragon is the manliest element). The possibilities are endless, just like the apparent reach of your Axe.
I should talk about reloading, but fuck that shit. Capcom pls remove

For sword attacks you are missing one decent attack: the "Sword Triple Slash". Activated 2 ways; 1 after doing 3 attacks with sword mode [Triangle] button then [Circle] attack will activate it, and the second way to activate is after doing "Axe Forward overhead slash" -> morph attack [R2] -> to [Circle] attack.
Yes, very true. It also has one more activation! Double slash > Axe Morph Slash > wild swing > Sword morph slash > Circle (triple slash)! Thanks for pointing it out
Also accessible through the wild swing finisher that applies that phial boost buff into morph

Now THAT is an impressive optimal Switch Axe set! While I'm over here with just Rapid Morph and Power Prolonger thinking that's all I'll need. And thanks for the tip about Focus, I didn't know it effected the Switch Axe as well.
It does but it really isn't that good. You can use it with power phial but power prolonger 1 or 2 is perfect. Rapid morph, Attack boost are the best ones for every switch axe then whatever you can slot in depending on your style. Evade window / extender are good. Enjoy playing this wonderful weapon
i just wanna say thanks so much. i used this weapon for a while in iceborne but going into rise I was rusty and pretty frustrated with the meter. i had no idea that the overhead slam in axe mode and the discharge filled the meter. this is going to make playing it so much easier thx man

The last monster hunywr game I played was mh4u and I fell in love with the insect glaive, now I've matured, swaxe is my favorite. I'm very glad they brought the game to Xbox, thanks for the refresher /tips!
Happy to have helped. Mh4u was an amazing game, I was playing a lot of charge blade and insect glaive too in that one! SwitchAxe is just too fun on sunbreak, hence why I wanted to help people pick it up
World was my first game but I’ve evolved down that same path, Insect glaive will always have a special place in my heart though.

I played longsword only throughout base rise and I got so good at it and it was so broken that I quit the game for a bit. The other weapons sucked in comparison. I learned every weapon now and I'm happier than ever. The SwagAxe is very fun, I'm happy I helped. Make sure to play it a lot in order to get better

One thing to point out, if you are playing multiplayer, never use the compressed finishing discharge as it will send your teammates flying.

I went through the reddit post and disagree with how most of the people responded. You did a great job on this video and everything man
I appreciate that you took the time to go through the description and checked the link I provided. Maybe their responses were a little unorthodox but they were right in one thing, I didnt do very good research on the skills. Maximum might in particular might be a playstyle preference but it's not really that good on SA. I don't mind running something like this honestly, but the people form this reddit are doing maths to calculate optimal damage and builds so I get why they're passionately answering even in a "mean" way. It's good to have some responses like this now and then to get a little tougher and also face the reality that your "baby" (my video) could have been better. That's what I got from this interaction, being the positive and striving to improve person that I am. Anyway sorry for the long reply, thanks again for your kind words, they really go a long way

I STRONGLY disagree with your advice in the Heavenward flurry. Its not too hard to pull off mid fight but it’s best used when the monster is stunned or toppled. It does crazy damage, fills your gauge at a crazy rate, and you can quickly go into the elemental discharge after landing it
I disagree with myself also. Check video description and pinned comment 😊😊. It was after noticing my friend dying a lot by spamming it but I hadn't realized how much it fills the bars!

Anytime my friend! One small thing. I would not use maximum might unless you really want to be stationary and use wire step to evade. I'd go for full attack instead! And as much as I love protective polish, you can play bladescale hone instead. Play around it. You can every drop some evade window for something else and just keep it at lvl 3. Have fun!

At 2.50 not only the sword mode can, the discharge from the AMPed weapon can trigger it, so in Rise since the Axe keep the amped state after being fully charged you still apply those elements, so Wild Swing with the amped axe will in fact apply the element in each hit with the explossions, that is why the Rise Swax is so much better than the previous iterations of the weapon, since you can efectively use both forms of the weapon as you want (whereas in older MH you would only use Axe mode for charging the bar and moving into Sword move to really play)
Great to know. I thought the Switcher Rampage Jewel caused the Axe to apply phials during morph attacks. I'm pinning this comment, thanks for the insight.
@@CasoresDen Oh I am not sure about the Rampage skill itself but the phial explosions can be done in Axe mode if the Amp state is already up.
@@CasoresDen axe can always cause explosions.
What switcher does is apply the phail effects to axe morphs, so stun for exhaust, poison/para/dragon damage, and ele/powers multipliers.
Only really useful on power as transferring its 15% damage boost to double axe morph is really strong
@@stealthcaveman9586 Thank you. Yes, during AMP and unlike previous titles the axe is very useful and can cause explosions, got it mixed in my head. The switcher jewel applies the phial effects to axe also.
Couple points I would add:
1. The sword to axe morph slash is an amazing "poke" and positioning move since you can change your direction whilst inside the animation, just remember that you always hit on your right side.
2. Heavenward flurry doesn't do any more damage than other moves, the gimmick is landing a hit with the move charges your amp gauge significantly so it is useful as long as you know when to use it. This combined with soaring wyvern blade and 2 stage morph slash can fill a power phial very quickly.
3. While EBC is a beautiful addition to swaxe, try not to counter attacks that have consecutive hits (valstrax advancing bite, astalos crawling wing slam, etc.) While you get invincibility frames, you are only invincible for the first hit after which you only have super armor and will take damage, even carting on low hp. Only happened to me once but still be careful.
Amazing tips and quite detailed. I don't think everyone knows of this. Thanks for sharing your insight, will help more people get better at the weapon
One combo that I've been having a lot of luck with is X->RT+X->A->RT+X. Or, Overhead Slash into Morph Rising Double Slash into Triple Slash into Morph Double Slash. It lands a lot of hits really fast, and does a great job of keeping the sword gauge high and filling the amp gauge fast as well. It also has the option of including a Heavenword Flurry between the Triple Slash and the Morph Double Slash that can really add in some extra damage and/or amp gauge, or you can add Fade Slash at the end to disengage.
I can resume all this in one simple sentence:
L2*TRIANGLE spam, you don't need anything else, no combo, no mastery, no nothing.

Im just a hammer main. Never played any other weapon bc Im too stupid. But the animations with jumping on the monster and do stuff is amazing. I wish I could do this with hammer too. ^^ Nice video eventhough I most time have no clue what are u talking about. Hahaha
Hammer is a great weapon, I'm happy you found your niche. However it's good to have a variety of things you can play. Try to pick up a SwitchAxe and follow my lead in the training area for a couple of hours, you will learn to play this weapon too in no time! Thanks for the kind words
Heavenward Flurry increases your amped gauge a lot faster than other sword attacks. Actually useful to use sometimes

-Soaring wyvern also doesn't care about weakpoint, it's a good option to break wings that aren't weakpoints.
-The morph sword combo fills up BOTH gauges, which makes it amazing to get into amp state when you can'y land a counter or to go into sword mode when below the bar

I was wondering that if playing elemental the combo wild swing x2 - sword morph combo - triple sword slash isn't better because it has more hits.... what do you think?
Triple slash is amazing it just is not very optimal to use consistently. I always use it after a gap closer with an overhead slash. All in all good puts, thanks for the feedback

Since I've started making videos I've had a lot of changes in my life, I've moved to a different country and I'm learning the language, working and trying to get more fit etc. I also do not have my editing computer anymore and I am using a laptop instead. I apologize if i missed it in your video but how do you deal with the vulnerable state when reloading the switch axe?
No need to apologize, there's not really a way to deal with it. You just try to not use it at all! Meaning you need to hit enough attacks with your axe to go over the little white indicator before you try to morph into sword. Also with the Switch Charger switch skill mentioned at 9:38 you restore 40% of your total Switch Gauge. Even if you have no Gauge left, using this skill will put you above the threshold needed to swap to sword. If you use the combo I mentioned and swap between sword and axe attacks, you shouldn't fall below the morph threshold! Keep an eye on it and you should be fine!

@@Sodamachine62 In base Rise, all weapons were so underwhelming compared to the longsword that it killed any incentive to play them alltogether. Sunbreak changed that however. I love SA so much since the update. I'd say I like SA and GL over anything right now haha

As someone who just unlocked the expansion part (with LS mostly and swax second) i rly hope to unlock the swax counter skill soon. The lower mobility and no counter is why i played more LS. Any idea how far in the expac i unlock the counter skill?
I'm pretty sure you unlock it immediately. Make sure to talk to Utsushi
15:04 I've save a bunch of clips doing EBC point blank on a barrel bomb and it usually still works. Not sure why it doesn't on occasion
I've had the same problem when testing it and in game when I played. Barrel bombs are a little weird now, I could consistently stab into iai with the longsword also but now it seems much harder.
You need to hit a weakpoint with the initial hit then the hitstop extends the counter frames for long enough for it to work

Tbh I don't know if you showed it or not as I'm half way through the video after a invincible gambit you can follow up with a triangle attack that does another 2 or 3 hits it also helps if you slightly miss the attack

Hey buddy, thanks for commenting. Unfortunately I haven't played Rise in so long and I don't know the best builds at the moment. If you are still on HR just focus on getting an armor that gives you Rapid Morph 3, Attack boost and weakness exploit. Anything else is extra!

Try crafting 8 different Switch Axes! They have to have different names

Abyssal Torrent is AWFUL. Sure it has high raw and great purple sharpness, but it might as well not have a phial at all, because an Element phial with only 15 element is pathetic, and that negative affinity hurts a lot when your raw is that high, especially when you need Rapid Morph. If you want a good raw axe, try the Ibushi one. With two or three ranks in Grinder (S), that thing becomes a beast.
Thanks! I really think raw axes are somewhat irrelevant now that element values are so strong but I had no idea what to go for if I wanted to have a raw $wagAxe for almost everything. I'll take the ibushi one into consideration

You literally didn't use it in those two combos..
Sorry, I must have missed your comment. 2-stage is incredibly good at filling both meters. It reduces a lot your "charging up" downtime and lets you stay at full DPS mode much more often in my experience. If you're amped you should be using morph loops, and if you aren’t then you should be charging amp. I was showing the main combo to easily get your weapon amped and the combo once it is. Happy hunting

Which phial would you recommend?
Elemental phials are the best with monsters that have weakzones of 20-25

Thus far all elders are flying so anti aerial is perfect for them :)

@@CasoresDen elder dragons in capcom are monsters that cannot be put into a category like brute wyverns (tigrex), flying wyverns (rathalps and rathian). That's why kirin is classified as an elder dragon.

Yeah it's pretty ridiculous. Sadly I always loved the grinding for stuff like this in Monster Hunter games and even tho I had horrible rolls with base Rise, this thing dropped within the first months of playing Sunbreak. It kind of killed the incentive to grind kind of, still great tho
