As expected....fantastic video. I love the ten minute detailed length and all the helpful ideas. Highly useful. I haven't seen any other ice video on this topic at all but this is really the core of what I need, or any skater needs. I have watched scores of videos in my ice career of 1.5 years and this may be the single best video I've seen. hahaha by the way I have the Gustav Lussi DVD set and that's a joke compared to this video. The production values are also first rate and I am often annoyed by intrusive music but I actually enjoyed the outro music on this. I find your "private ice" demarcation amusing....it's like "CAUTION: Cross this line at your peril."
Thanks! I really appreciate the idea of padding out jumps. I already do that with my spins but never have with my jumps. Also, the roller coaster analogy is great even for us older skaters!
8:10 padding out practice jumps with a flowing routine for joy....in theory I love that. The problem is it takes a lot of ice to practice that way. I only skate during public session, I don't have the luxury of a lot of ice. I know some good skaters that are all over the ice like that and Oooooooo is that annoying.
as someone who also skates primarily on publics, I very much agree with this haha but i sometimes find space to do back threes out of my landings and bet i'd probably be able to do maybe one turn going into it? not sure how your rink is but just a thought like i feel like even one turn would be better than nothing in terms of helping?
Hi Paul. I have not yet watched the video, nor have I read any comments, but because I know you, i know this will be a good video. I did watch your other video on how to skate, I forget what you said, maybe with more power. You said to keep the knees working in a smooth sinusoidal rhythm and to get the hidden push from the cross over. Thank you for that video, and then for this one as well because one of the things I really admire about good skaters and I would love to be able to do myself is that magical effortless glide they have over the ice! I really envy that. I am coming up on my 2nd year of skating (I am 63 years old FYI) and I still don't feel like I have that magic glide, and I want it so badly Paul! Instead I feel like I always have to work my way around the rink. I have always skated better backwards than I do forward and I have had some (neophyte) skater ask me how I am able to glide backwards so effortlessly, so then that's a win right there! And I also feel like my backwards cross over has got that lean over to the inside foot and that gives me huge power dude and then my back cross overs do have a bit of magic and grace to them. I skate best on wet ice, man I love to skate on wet ice and when the ice is wet I do feel like I have that magic glide. There has been just a few times in my career where I hit some magic balance point and felt the magic, just for a second or two. It reminds me of learning to ride a bike with training wheels. The training wheel is pure torture, but gradually I learned to tip the bike upright onto just two wheels and I remember that magical feeling of whizzing over the ground. As I got better I could do that more and more, one second, two seconds, a few seconds, until I learned. Ice skating seems to be a liiiiiitle harder.
2:20 One continuous movement of the 3 turn blends into the cross over that blends into the landing position. LOLOLOL. Yes! That looks so great! I'm going to totally do that! I just need about 10 more years of intense training to get it to look like what you just did!
Being a rollercoaster around the ice 🤔 👍 Good analogy. After being off the ice 4 about 25 years. Started taking lessons again To keep the blood circulating. The way you worded, this really helps me with my edges and my flow.T.Y for all your videos.🎢⛸️ Let's all Smash 🤜that 👍button and subscribe💯📢
Loved this video because I am interested in now connecting my skating steps together rather than doing an element and stopping to think of the next element that I want to do, etc. So now I will think more flow into my next skating moves ❤️⛸️⛸️❤️.

😆 cross the line at your peril! Hard to find dead ice in our rink, always something going on or I’m teaching!
I love that analogy of being the roller coaster carriage……I can feel it when I think of it like that.😊
Makes it really fun to think about it like that
I like the contrasts! It makes the point very clear.
Thanks

3:50 "Well....let's do it that way then." If my coach said that to me I would do nothing but drink hot chocolate the entire session.
🤣

I love how you describe this feeling, it’s worth the work just to get that. It really is a feeling like no other, I consider it close to flying

Hey thanks 🤩
A great tutorial again, thank you ❤

6:28 WHAT IS THAT "TOE LIFT" STOP CALLED????? I've never seen anyone do that one before.
Technically it’s a T stop but it’s leaning on the outside edge like a tango / show stop… 👍🏼
@@iskatecoach With a toe lift for extra style. It's somewhat in the direction of a one foot T stop.
I can give a name to 8:10. I'll call it "practicing your flow for fun and profit."

It feels the best! Have a list of 2/3 elements instead of one and link them creatively 😃
my like and comment are the first ;-)
Too bad you couldn't be a nice guy.
