    I went ice skating on a date and ended up buying skates, finding a sport I love, and signing up for lessons. Still single though 🤷will work on that later.

    Coach Julia, I saw one of your videos about a year ago; I have finally decided to make a run on this sport and ready to put in some serious effort. Friends try to get me to play hockey with them, but in my heart is all figure skating, and so the journey begins ...

    I have been rollerblading since i was little (began at age 7) i am 15 now ... and i have only gone on ice skates recently (2 times) from only 90 minutes on the ice , i can already skate fast, i have good balance , and i am currently focusing on how to do proper spins and crossovers.

    I'm from a country where we don't have winter, and there's no ice skating centres, but today I did it for the first time and fell in love with it, I wish I could afford living in a country where I could practice this every day of the week

    50 thousand falls; really? That’s terrifying. I have just started skating and had a first fall recently; landing awkwardly, backwards, on my hip and very nearly fractured my wrist. I’m not going back onto the ice until I have good wrist guards. Do you mention these in any of your tutorials; in my experience they are a great idea!! Thanks for the great tutorials.

      I know it sounds terrifying, but most of the time falls aren't as bad as you might think. I do remember one day when I was working on landing my Axel and I was soooo close, and I fell 100 times in an hour. I actually counted because for some reason at the time I thought it was important. lol.

    Awe shucks, it’s already past skating day over here in my part of the world…I would’ve definitely went to the rink even though I usually don’t skate on Sundays. Just love the sport…the passion and fire that gets ignited from skating, can’t put to words.

    Just did Ice Skating for the first time for this year's Winter Wonderland and I was nervous and scared of falling but the tips are extremely helpful for next time. Plus I thought the aid (Fixed Height) I was provided wasn't tall enough and I find myself slouching forward.

    Julia - Another great video. Soo....... just an FYI, in your list of other videos, the links to the forward and backward crossovers are Backwards. Forward link goes to backward crossovers n vice versa. Not sure if you can edit or correct after video is posted, Just something I noticed.
    Watching the Forward crossovers next. Really helpful channel.

    I watched this video as I thought it might help me get back on the ice :( I broke my wrist really badly back in March after getting my grade two and I’ve not been back since :( do you have any tips for skating again and what I can do? I was having lessons and I lost my footing and tried to land correctly but it all went on my left wrist 😣

    • @CoachJulia
      @CoachJulia  Рік тому +1

      Oh my gosh that's awful. I am so sorry to hear that. Perhaps you can get a really nice wrist brace to give you a little extra support?

      They do roll around sometimes. lol. But the old metal sliders they used to have were kinda dangerous and only one height. So this is at least better than that.

    I wear a size 10 shoe should I get a size bigger skate or size smaller?

    • @zeborahnz
      @zeborahnz Рік тому +2

      Smaller - skates need to be really snug to support your ankles well. But if you're hiring, just tell the people at the skate hire that you're a size 10 shoe and they'll give you the most likely size, then when you try it on if it's either too loose or so tight it actually hurts you can just go back and swap it. If/when you're buying your own pair, ideally you'd go into the skate shop to get fitted.

    • @jaindeau772
      @jaindeau772 Рік тому +1

      But don’t trust a skate shop, either. I paid a lot of money for skates I couldn’t wear. I am a size 10, borderline wide. I traveled to another state to a supposed specialty shop. The shop insisted I needed 8.5 narrow, and promised the toe box could be widened. My feet ached for the 8 months I tried to wear the skates, and I had open sores on the ankle bones. I ended up quitting skating altogether. That wasn’t the entire reason I quit, but was a big contributor.

      My street size is 7 and my prop shop scanned my feet and the computer spit out 6.5 with confidence. I shook my head as I tried it on. Turned out 7.5. This happened two days ago. Will see

    I've been skating for 3 years now and i still struggle with crossovers like i just cant cross my feet with out having a mini heart attack going backwards is even worse lol idk what to do I've just accepted the fact that ill just be a skater who only skates forwards and knows how to stop. 🥲
