  • Just for fun really I built a pair of Cyburg's needles but used a pair of Polytron drivers found in an old stereo system. They are remarkable if a little flawed. I used what was available in Phuket and a local shop cut the wood. As you'd expect they image very well and go impressively deep but could do with baffle step correction/bandstop filtering....maybe I'll just use the equaliser in iTunes

I love the Needles. I built my own pair couple of weeks ago - in White!

It would be difficult to tell without sticking them in anechoic chamber really. What I can tell you is that they provide an impressive amount of bass in a 6m x 4m room. The drivers were just robbed from a cheap generic stereo...really nothing special...tiny little drivers. I just thought it would be amusing to see what they could do and guessed they'd probably more or less work out in these cabinets....which they more or less do. The drivers are just a little sibilant in the upper mids but otherwise really quite nice and I haven't even tried using baffle step correction or a series resistor to tame them a bit. They're good enough for me to want to try and build another pair with the correct drivers.
