Scores:
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
88-92.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
93-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.
This is one of my most fav scotch's.
Good review, lovely dram. It’s about €70,- in The Netherlands. Well worth it. One of the better Peated Highland single malts.
Can’t believe it’s 250$ in Canada, bought a bottle few months ago for 68$ in Costco.
Great price!
Jamie did, yes sir. I really like this stuff. Cheers!
Before peat week it was called isla cask
Learning that government markup in Canada (usually BC and Ontario) is 75% on spirits was eye opening. I'm tempted to find a job where I need to travel so I can enjoy my hobby economically.
Love this one. Nice review
This is a great dram for £55 a bottle. $240 is crazy but we pay £50 for bottom shelf Bourbon in the UK while Americans get Elijah Craig Barrel Proof for the same price. HEEEEELP! Great review Jeremy.
ECBP in Ontario is $250cad! Craziness lol
I don't get Balvenie pricing in Canada either. One good thing about living in Alberta is being able to import liquor personally. I got a bottle of The Week of Peat for $83 CDN from The Whisky World in London and after shipping and tax, it came in at about $130 CDN. I shake my head when I pass it on the liquor store shelf here. I liked it, but not enough to import it again.
I don't get the pricing either, but it's nice to have the freedom to do that.
I was able to pick up a bottle last year for $100 US at airport duty-free shop.
Tried this in a Balvenie tasting put on by Jamie. Great to try, but at $250 it won't be making it onto my shelf.
Thank you for your conclusion on this 14yr. I do like more Peat and Smoke but I will give it a try. Looking forward to your reviews on the Japanese and their whiskies. If you have and I missed it, please redirect me, I would like to hear what you think, again well-done brother.
i've reviewed a couple Japanese whiskies, but not buying any now-a-days. Most overpriced
Timely review because I had the first Peat Week and quite liked it and I've been wondering about getting another bottle of Balvenie recently. There's very little in their range that appeals to me any more and that's down to overpricing and/or poor abv. This is probably the best option for me. Have you tried the Old Ballantruan 15 which is also a peated Speyside? That might be a cheaper option. Cheers Jeremy
Haven't tried Ballanturan 15 yet, ill keep an eye out, cheers!
$152 Australian dollars, but we one of the highest taxed countries on alcohol
All Balvenie in Canada generally is ridiculously overpriced. Cheers Jeremy and go Leafa #letsgopalate 🥃🇨🇦
I can't understand why. Someone needs to answer this. Cheers Mark
Sadly the 1200 bottles or so we got in Ontario have slowly but surely been selling, So whoever's responsible for this pricing travesty will not get the hint and the cycle continues.....we have to vote with our wallets, folks!
Of course, when you starve people of selecion like the LCBO does, you can sell a $100 whisky for $250.....because we'll buy anything as long as its not another bottle of damn Glenlivet! No shortage of that in this province. 🤪
Sorry for the rant.
Great review, I actually really want to get my hands on this one, maybe some visitors from Europe will help me out post Covid. Cheers!
Ontario whisky drinkers either don't know, or have too much money lol
Thank for responding regarding the Whisky from Japan. question: Was it the cost of there product that was a negative or would it be worth my time to at least sample a bottle. Thanks
Japanese whisky is awesome, Yamazaki 12, Hakushu 12, some Nika's, all great, but getting way too much $$ to justify it.
$180 in Sask....why it’s cheaper here than the rest of Canada I have no idea
High time to do a series of " ... in place of THIS or THAT whisky/ies over 200$CAD ... " - or - poor man's series. Just saying. Great vid.
Yes, all of the Balvenie bottlings in Canada are way overpriced. It's nonsense.
I passed on this version, The Week of Peat 2019, at Costco $86usd. Reason being, according to STD's especially Bart, the 2003 Peat Week is the best of the bunch. I have 2 bottles, 1 still bunkered, and it's really good. The Peat is stronger than you would think, but you still get that Balvenie maltyness and floral and honey notes. Really nice nose with a solid finish. The other reason I passed is I can get BenRiach 2017 10yr peated for $50. Another solid peated Speyside @ 46%abv. Think Ardbeg 10 with that typical Speyside maltyness, love it for $50, Cheers!
Ouch! I think it is overpriced in the US but way out of line for you folks in the north. Cheers Jeremy
Balvenie and Canada don't mix
Someone needs to slap the reps and everyone involved setting these ridiculous prices in Canada, haha
whomever sets the prices needs to be paid a visit :)
@@SippersSocialClub Definitely! Side note, what's your take on the new TUNs they've been releasing the past couple of years? I've had some really good ones, but feel some really miss the mark when you consider price.
Balvenie in South Africa is rediculously over priced. There are lots of drams much better value for money. Thanks for the review.
Are Ardbeg prices high there too?
