  • Balvenie has always been a constant in my life in some way or another. It's always customers wanting to try it, good friends drinking it, or the odd bottle sparking my interest. This is certainly the latter.
Peated Speyside whisky is a growing style and so far has all been wonderfully tasty! This Balvenie is full of coastal salt and spice on the nose, a little of the 'classic' Balvenie is creeping in, some honey and a little vanilla, etc. The finish is full flavoured, dry and very Talisker-like. Honestly delicious and very captivating from the big Speysider.

So when can my gaff expect its "Whisky Wednesday certified 'Good Whisky Bar'" window sticker?

I was given this as a present. I'm not the biggest fan of Balveine if I'm being honest but I was pleasantly surprised by this one. It's a lovely whisky with notes from everywhere and just keeps giving more. Definitely worth at least trying if you're into this type of whisky!

Love the channel. The only peated Speyside I have tried is BenRiach Curiositas 10 which I loved. I hope Balvenie will keep trying to challenge.

They do need to offer a little more to the whisky community. This is a step in the perfect direction.

I agree with you about Balvenie. It’s an easy drinking very pleasant whisky but I find I can easily get a more interesting whisky for the price. This one however, is one I’ve been thinking about buying and on the back of this review I’ll go ahead. Just signed up for the free delivery from Master of Malt so time to start cashing in ! Thanks Phil.

Hi Phil it’s been a couple of years since I had a bottle of this and that’s no bad reflection on balvenie because I really enjoyed it from the first glass to the last. Ps great review as usual. All the best.

They do need to bring themselves back into the eye of the regular drinker. Their older releases are stupidly expensive and the standard range just blends into the background now. This is a solid step in the right direction.

Interesting. Enjoyed the whole video as always, but certainly connected to the comments about finally finding an interesting Balvenie. I actually like their range, but I have not been very excited to bring one home in a while. This certainly sounded good. Love that salt too!

Certainly a stand out from the regular range. The 15YO Single Barrel was really good, but as is the way with Single Barrel products, some are better than others. And most of the time, it was a good one in every three or four.

Phil! You had me at "if you gave me that blind I was say it was Talisker". I gotta get me this one.

It is dry and salty. The nose is all west coast.

Thanks for the review :) You made we want to go back and try the peated Blavenie. Luckily I easily do that as I have of couple of samples lying around. I tried it long ago and remember mainly thinking that Balvenie should stick to the usual style. However I really like both Talisker and Old Pulteney, so I want to give it another chance :)

Thanks for the review and great tasting notes. I've seen this is a shop in Israel and was tempted as it looked interesting, but the price was so high (twice as much as the RRP in the UK!!!), it put me off. I do enjoy the Balvenie Single Barrel 12, but as you say, their is nothing in their general output which particularly outstanding and there is always something much more interesting to spend your money on. I also used to enjoy the 14 Caribbean Cask (first two releases) but recent releases have seen cask quality go down. I wouldn't buy it today.

That's a crazy amount of money! Probably cheaper to buy it on a UK site and have it sent to Israel.
I do wish they'd just inject some buzz into their products. Releasing old stocks keeps the investors happy, but id kill for a 10YO CS Balvenie. Imagine how explosive and fun that would be. Working in all the good ways for Glenallachie.

Standard Balvenie is nothing more than wonderfully branded BLEND FILLER, and I've been burned too many times by their marketing department, particular with their "Peat Week" which should've actually been labeled "Weak Peat". Yes, I've heard this new bottling is better, but I'm not buying it. If I want peat, I'm sticking to Islay or Mull ✌️

Can't blame you for sticking with Mull, fabulous stuff. I do agree with you, they have left my uninspired over the years, but this is actually good and a nice change.

Whenever Balvenie Peat Week becomes available, I pass... It's just too expensive!

Right? In Canada this is going for $250 which is 150 pounds. What the beep is going on here?

I bought a bottle a few years ago. It was good, but over priced. I'd rather have a bottle of Ardbeg 10yo.
