Scores:
After my initial score I add or subtract points relative on how I perceive value (based on what I paid for the bottle). A zero value means I think the price is justified.
0-69.5 - Don’t bother trying, life is too short for bad spirit.
70-79.5 - Worth trying, but you’re not missing out if you don’t.
80-84.5 - I recommend trying.
85-87.5 - Definitely try this!
88-92.5 - I recommend buying a bottle blind!
93-95.5 - Stuff you reserve for special pours!
96+ - The meaning of life.
Excellent, well-organized review….as always. Happy to have this positive confirmation, as I have a bottle waiting to be tried!
Hey, as always a great review, can’t wait to buy it. Also, congrats on 30k subscribers. Well done.
Thanks Mark, cheers man
Thanks for another awesome review Jeremy. Just finished my first bottle last week. I picked it for $119.95 last September during a Labour Day sale. It was second-filled, based on the color, but still great. Well balanced flavors. Will definitely replace.
Can't wait to try this on maybe even my next birthday! Think I'll like the more recent 2nd fill even better due to not being a huge fan of too much sherry influence. I've been looking for the most affordable scotch solely matured in European oak, and in my searches so far, this is it. Mouth watering already! Thanks for your review!
I've had the 12 year single barrel (ex-bourbon), really good. I'll keep my eye out for this!
Best whisky I've ever tasted. It kills me this is atrociously expensive here where I live... it's around the equivalent of $350 when you're lucky enough to find it. Brazil prices suck.
First, congrats on 30K! Been following you for a couple years now, nice to see you hit that 👍
This was the first Sherried scotch that made me "stand up and take notice" of sherried scotches. As you know I was a peat head first, but after this Balviene 15 I had to try the Glendronachs, "older" Macallan 12 sherry etc.
Great review as always, Cheers.
Thank you sir, appreciate it :)
After trying the 15 year bourbon 90/95 from your Patreon, I had to take your advice from this video and picked up the 15 year Sherry. Right on the money, got it for $120 in my area. Very good stuff, reminded me of a more elegant Macallan 2018 Classic Cut. I did find this opened up faster than that Macallan, excited to try as it opens up even more.
Thankfully my palette is similar to yours, so a worthy sherry scotch in my collection.
Oh nice! $120 is a solid price too. Cheers Peter
I really enjoyed the 14 year old Caribbean Rum cask. I am sure this will be just as pleasant.
Have one of these stashed. Hard to replace at the new prices in Canada.
Why LCBO... why? Sad thing is that they're currently sold out lol
My brother has had a couple of them and swears by them. For some unholy reason have yet to purchase one. I think that’s about to change. Thanks for another great review!!
Thanks James, go grab one if you can find a good price, cheers :)
Great Jeremy👍🏻
Love this Balvenie😋
168us dollar in Sweden though😬
That's a little on the high end, but it's hard to argue with the quality, cheers :)
I like the standard 12 yr. I'm sure this one is good too.
Down to a bottle kill of the last one I bought a few years ago. One of my favorites for sure. Never did understand why Balvenie and Ardbeg are pretty much a joke for pricing at the LCBO.
We need answers
Loved the 12YO looks like a need to level up
Pound for pound my favorite whiskey. I never have less than two of these at the house ever.
With how fast this bottle is going down, ill have to re-up myself soon, cheers!
Ryan, I totally agree 👍.
Congratulations on 30 K. You can probably use some good news. 🙂
Lol, go Jets
the only Balvenie I have is a 15 and it's from 2016 and looks like a bottle of sherry it's so dark and it is no where near this color now but I hear a lot of the mid colored ones are great and can be better than some older ones that are super dark. Would like to have an older 21port cask that was higher proof than 43% ABV but they are crazy priced at auctions
they make (or made) a travel retail 21 Port at 47% abv. Would love to get one!
Got one of these last year. It was good but compared to other sherry casks in that $130 price range they cost near me there are a lot of better things available. Mine had a big Ludens Cherry cough drops flavor. Would have liked to have gotten one of the discontinued 15 ex bourbon cask ones, seems like a lot of people miss those. Cheers Jeremy
There's always been two versions my friend - first and refill. First is great and refill good. Guess what? More refill these days.
@@welshtoro3256 Makes sense. The label didn't specify 1st fill or refill so guess it's luck of the draw ?
Yes, the older ex-bourbons are great. Hopefully they bring those back soon, cheers :)
Is there a ton of peat in these single barrels? Great review bud!
no peat :)
Go back a few years and you will see that the Balvenie 15 Sherry is two different animals. There's a first fill and refill variety and unless you see it with your own eyes there's no way of no knowing what you will get (ordering online.) The difference is good+ or excellent. First fill is ruby red and the other is brown - like your bottle unfortunately. Balvenie are great but they are one of the whisky disappointments like Bowmore. The first fill is not worth a penny over £100.
What are the Welsh Toro's top 5 best buys in Scotch?
There has to be batch variation. Would like to think that this is almost a quintessential sherried Whisky.
How to make a SSC video. Step 1: Make sure the reviewed spirit is not available in Manitoba Liquor Marts. Step 2: Make sure it's also not available on Zyn. Step 3: Make sure it's not available on Craft Cellars. Bonus points if it appears as a product but is sold out. Step 4: Offer it as a Drink My Bar option. Step 5: If you draw Benjamin P. for drink my bar, just restart the video. The only Drink My Bar winners should be people with easy access to the reviewed premium spirits. Step 6: Make a beginner's luck quip at some point to rub salt.
hahahahahahahaha
Here in Ontario about 99% of reviewed scotch isnt available anyway but yes things are slowly going downhill in other provinces as well. 2-3 yrs ago was much better out west.
