- Comic book readers, critics, retailers and creators all warned DC Comics to start taking their characters more seriously. Unfortunately, DC Comics chose to ignore everyone and hire every editor and writer with an agenda to devolve their superheroes into gay fanfic. Action Comics now: Superman's son flirting with another guy and probably implying for a sword fighting scenario - probably the closest we get to action in Action Comics.

I vended at a con next to Brett Breeding. It's amazing how much planning and thought went into comics of the past. They creators would actually go on week long trips together to coordinate and plan the upcoming events and story threads. Now they just hand a book over to some lunatic who wants to make a name by obliterating a character and recreating them into social justice warriors. The only people who would actually pay to read this garbage checked out a long time ago.

If I remember correctly, Tim Sheridan wrote an animated Superman movie where it was essentially a coming-out story, his superhuman nature used in place of sexuality, it seems like this is all he knows how to do.

I hate the fact Obsidan has been pushed to the side. Actual gay representation that was interesting and not pandering. I remember seeing Obsidan in the DC encyclopedia and loving the design leading me to pick up some books to see what his deal was. Now you have this weird dynamic where the father and son are gay and never told each other.

Detective Comics had a similar backup story this week. I read both comics and it just seems like now the whole DCU is gay.
I used to have a comprehensive knowledge of the Batman universe but I don’t know these characters in the back up story were and why we should care about their relationship.
I wonder if there will ever come a time when all this crap will be retconned out of existence. I want justice, I guess.

Well...I can think of two reasons.
A. That WAS the Plan for Breakdown but it was shouted down and stopped from happening behind closed doors and allowed to continue without any further questions. Like the X-Men Krakoa Run. The Main crux of the Plot is Lost and it just wanders aimlessly like a Worse Clone Saga that EVERYONE is Gaslighting you into saying it's a Good Storyline and a Good Thing.
B. This was always the plan. This is what these people think a Healthy Relationship is. And it says NOTHING GOOD about these people and actually hurts these 'Pet Minorities' they claim to want t 'help' so much. But they dont care.
Because it is okay when they do it/they are into that shit, the same happens in manga where the people that will not stop complaining about straight fan-service in the medium never complains about how exploitative and objectifying yaoi/yuri are.

Super boy abused for years by ultra man could develop some toxic male relationship due to trauma and the fact that he’s mentally 13 adds onto that, having never experienced his earlier years could showcase the effects of abuse and give depth to his character. But I don’t know if these writers are smart enough to do that. It should end With a family coming together to literally fight trauma, and Kent’s giving the boy the rest of his childhood.

The hiring practices for comics now are unbelievable. Would you hire a person who has never written a work of fiction in his life? Marvel would. Would you hire a person who knows hardly anything about the characters in the continuity of the last fifty years? DC would.
The old Lois Lane comics have more action and excitement then todays dreck
I actually grew up on the archive collections of golden age green lantern my middle school library somehow had. Very unique and interesting mythology, some amazing supporting characters have just been forgotten about from that run. Thank u Tim Sheridan for ruining something special, I’m sure Alan Scott fans are buying your book in droves

The market seems to be starting to sort itself out.
First, Marvel has tried to make Peter Parker/ Spider-Man gay.
So, DC could easily give Superman the Peter Parker/Mary Jane treatment.
I surprised DC hasn't made either Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman, gay.
There are too many influencers and no writers in the comics.

DC hired BL writers to write action-oriented comics. It's like a romantic comedy writer working at Blumhouse but never wanting to write a horror movie.
Edit: Other countries still treat the LGBT people horribly, but these writers will never tell a story about that because it's too political. Yes, the irony of that statement is intentional. Real politics doesn't get you Twitter likes; it costs you your job. They have safe politics.
Man, a story about a gay or lesbian superhero/freedom fighter whose lover was beheaded in... I don't know, pick a country (Russia, most places in the Middle East, etc), fighting against the oppressive regime, maybe fighting some metahumans that work for the government (like the Russian Rocket Reds)... that's the kind of story that would get me interested! It could even be Bialya or Kahndaq if they want to avoid using a real place.
A silly BL involving a superhero would work if the story is framed as a BL. However DC works no longer do romance comics so the expection is action (hell it's called "action comics" for a reason)
There is a difference between a BL with superheros and a superhero comic that has BL

Why DC is catering their content to such a small percentage of readers and expecting it to sell is beyond me? They act as if 2/3 of readers are LGBT. It is business common sense. If they cater to the smallest aspect of readers, they should expect the sales to match their target audience and no or low sales. I do not have an issue if they want to make this content but they need to know they are producing product for 10% of readers and to expect it to sell more is just silly.
It's based on the idea that LGB people will flock to any film/show/series that has "representation" in it, and bring a brand new audience with a lot of disposable income to the product.
Unfortunately for them (and all of us I suppose), they think representation is all that matters, and they don't need interesting stories or original or likable characters, so we are about as interested in the end product as everyone else; not at all.
Make an interesting new superhero with a good story, his own rogues gallery of colourful villains who aren't strawmen, and who just also happens to be gay and I might be interested. Why would I be any more interested in this retconned self-insert than a straight guy would a YA romance comic..?
Yeah and are those alphabet DC stories any good/fun? I come across Delvin Waugh in 2000 AD. Gay character, but he spent most time fighting monsters in very gory ways. None of this self insert my gay experience writer nonsense.

Nobody seems to remember, but the whole "Alan Scott is gay!" nonsense began with the New 52's "Earth-2" series. It wasn't supposed to be the true nature of the character, it was an alternate dimension version of him...who was a billionaire playboy and gay, and who got his "green" powers from the spirit of Nature.
Balance. Nobody there truly understands the importance of a balanced story. Most of the best stories in history are balanced stories. They had a focused genre to a degree but would slip bits and pieces of other stuff into. A little romance here. A little comedy there. A good amount of lore. All of that allowed people who not only enjoyed a particular genre but also the ones who normally wouldn’t go for say adventure or horror genres. It also allowed people a break from the main story. Which allows you to enjoy the rest of the story.🧐
Every dozen issues or so Claremont would do the baseball game issue. But he made certain those issues got sandwiched between epics like Dark Phoenix Saga or Days of Future Past. It simply doesn't work when every issue is the baseball issue.
The ruin of Jon Kent was the last nail in the coffin for DC. Turning him gay just punched a hole in the pine box and let the stench of decay briefly waft into mainstream attention before fading back to irrelevance.

Mystique and Destiny even went to Professor X so they could forget about the fact that they both screwd over Nightcrawler. Mystique didn't want to forget that she had a son. She just wanted to forget the bad decisions she made. Charles warned her that not erasing the memories would cause her mind to fabricate a story that would be harsher than reality. Afterwards, Mystique blamed Professor X for her troubles after she remembered everything after touching Nightcrawler's Hopesword.

Azazel always was and was meant to be an old mutant. He is written as being a mutant ever since Krakoa started even.
When Austen left, another writer came along and retconned Azazel into being a mutant demon and that's where the issues started because under Austen's pencil, he wasn't referred as such. He was just a mutant old.
I prefer the 90's origin with Nightcrawler being son of Mystique with count Eric Wagner.This origin was adapted for the 90's animated show too.This trend in making dumb retcons in the origins of Marvel characters after the 2000's is dumb like hell.

I've never seen it mentioned on any comic UA-cam channel but Jim Lee's daughter is gay. There's nothing wrong with that, full stop. As this info applies to the context of comics, I don't think he looks at any of these story decisions as bad or damaging or what have you. I don't think he gives it much thought at all actually, it's just casually business as usual for him through the lens of where he lives and his life in general. I think he's a nice guy AND the worst thing to happen to DC comics when you consider the overall damage he has allowed to happen during his tenure. These things are not mutually exclusive.
His daughter is also a hardcore SJW. She has an outsized influence on his life and she basically uses him as a tool to push her agenda. It's true, he may not give it any thought beyond what he sees in his home life,...but his home life is wall to wall leftist ideology.

I used to be a massive fan, of Jim Lee. His art, and his interviews, years ago, he seemed like a trustworthy guy, to have in the office. Now, he just looks beaten, and he's part of problem. Sad.

Isn’t this backup story the actual first pages of that Jon Kent Superman comic that DC is trying to sample in other titles? They do this a lot because sales are bad. There was a new Wonder Woman issue, I think #2 that had a Dell’Otto cover I wanted and when I flipped through the book to see if the story was good I noticed the backup story had the gay Alan Scott Green Lantern first pages and I said, “Nope.”
I am hoping someday that someone at DC says "Ok, we need to FIX this" and make Bernard and Jay Knockamural a couple of bad guys who were actually trying to sabotage the JLA by weakening what they saw as future members. Throw Yar Floormop and Jace Fox in for good measure. Have them all have been manipulated by Jay and Bernard.
You simply find out these two miscreants were reality warping villains. We discover that Jon Kent was NEVER aged up, but has been trapped in another dimension by these two and "Jon" is actually a construct that Jay Notyourmamma cooked up to make Jon look weak and romance obsessed. Same with Bernard. He trapped Tim Drake in an alternate dimension where everything is FLIPPED and while we here him pining for BERNARD, he actually thinks he is having a life with STEPHANIE!
Seriously, show these two just MERCILESSLY messing with ALL of the JLAs proteges. They could be responsible for 'Rick' Grayson. For all of Damians meltdown. For all that insanity Wally West went through.

Taking mainstream entertainment properties and turning them into gay romance vehicles is not a wise business move. It would be like making Taylor Swift do nothing but Death Metal songs. A small specialized audience will never do the numbers of the mainstream.
I'm really getting sick and tired of this, but then i haven't bought comic books since 2021 because this was starting to become more prominent with some of my already established characters, and the dumbing down of other characters as personalities didn't match what has come before.
Jonathan kent superman just makes me want to throw up everytime I see him and not buy or read a book with him in it.

I’m a gay (and very out) life-long comics reader, and I’m totally against the revision of characters’ sexualities. It’s ridiculous and pandering on the most base level. MAKE NEW CHARACTERS - why is that so hard? Midnighter and Apollo, for example, are excellent examples of it done right.

I always wondered if there was anything that would push me to the point of quitting comics all together. I guess that something is now come into being. I have been collecting for over 50 years and I have been through so many highs and lows. I thought the New 52 was absolute garbage, but it wasn't enough to turn me away completely. I am now buying less than I ever have (when I am at a point where I could actually afford more). I think my breaking point may be very near.

Jon Kent isn't the future Superman or future anything. Eventually someone is going to own the comic book rights to DC who wants to make money. Garbage like Jon Kent or this Alan Scott Green Lantern will just be wiped out of continuity. It won't exist because it doesn't sell. Unfortunately it won't be soon but it will happen. There is too much money involved to keep things like this forever.
I basically stopped reading Marvel and especially DC years ago because of this abandonment of story and character in favor of a writer’s social agenda and how they “check off the boxes” at these corporations.

If they haven't already, Wonder Woman and Steve Trevor should produce a daughter who becomes the new WW. Maybe that's Trinity. Don't know who her dad is. They can have a son too. Why not? Batman and Catwiman should give birth to the new Batman and Catwoman. That was the original Huntress' origin. Supergirl and perhaps Jimmy Olsen can have superpowered kids. Nightwing and Batgirl can produce hero children. Even Nightwing and Starfire, Raven and Beast Boy and Green Arrow and Black Canary. Let's move on to the next generation of superheroes! It could be an exciting new DC. They need new ideas to generate sales, that's for sure.

Marvel and DC only have 2 types of characters. Characters that are LGBTQ and characters that aren't LGBTQ yet.

Why can't they just create a rainbow line for the gay characters and keep them separated from the main continuity?
How come gay love stories are always either juvenile or perverted? If you want to convince people that there's no real difference between straight and gay people, wouldn't it make sense to write the characters like actual people and not walking stereotypes? I know there are some people out there who build their entire personality around who they sleep with but nobody wants to be around that, even fellow members of the community lol I'm not even pro-lgbt whatever. When you mentioned Teen Titans Academy all that I could think of was the one scene where the non-binary quilt? I guess? I have no idea what it's supposed to be. Anyway it says to Roy Harper, a character (love him or hate him) that has been an important part of D.C. comics for decades: "THEY' are standing right here." with a major attitude. I think I almost threw my laptop (reading the online app) across the room. That kind of shit is getting ridiculous! Just write a good story man, leave the agenda for your Twitter page!
