I watched that Mark Millar mini summit with three comic book retailers who have chains of comic book stores. They didn't really get into the political/social side (even though Mark Millar did try to ask them about it due to the current cancel pigs drama). They basically all said they need the rockstars back at the Big Two writing long form quality runs (one shots/mini's wouldn't help). The main current concern was the lack of editorial oversight leading to a drop in quality. Which left them all with books they couldn't sell.
To me that just says their hatred for someone is bigger then their love for heroes they write. As someone who was pretty much raised and inspired by comics because of a bad childhood I can never understand that.
Waid didn’t say that all. He said he would rather the industry burned then work with someone who is alt-right. That doesn’t describe Millar. And if you’re offended by that statement and you’re saying you’re alt-right. Then you’re a problem.
Yeah I watched it too. I believe one of them said something along the lines of: you could have 10 criticisms that are apolitical and one that is political. And they will zero in on that one that’s political. I think that’s why they wanted to steer away from that conversation. I do agree that having 5 or 10 or 20 super creative teams come back for a short time isn’t going to solve the problems. Fans need reassurance that the creators are invested as much as they are. If we want to see fans back reading monthly books for years. We need creators on those books for long runs.
Saying you won't work with Nazi's - not red voters, but Nazis - is not bigotry. Waid repudiated the alt-right, not the right. People seem to have misunderstood this in the fire of the reaction. It's the entire substance of the issue.
I stopped all DC Comics a few months ago, and I regretted dropping World’s Finest until this week. Mark Waid is not worth a second thought, his work not worth supporting, and his legacy in comics tarnished beyond repair. It’s like arguing with a petulant child, you gain nothing except giving the kid the attention that they want. Collect stories, not series.
I almost thinked in give DC a new chance because Superman titles but PKJ are leaving Action Comics in this month, a very bad move from DC so I lost my interest again. DC love piss off your fans.
I'm also done supporting Waid after what he said about LCSs. I always was familiar with his temper and even attempted to ignore his political rage rants and hatred. But I can't ignore what he said. I always try to separate the art from the artist, evaluating the craft. And Mark Waid for a long time was one of my favorite CB writers. Kingdom Come is in my top five favorite comics and his F4 run is criminally underrated. But Mark Waid is a lunatic and someone who should know better than to go after LCSs given he's been to them and has sales from them. But I guess politics really rotted his brain or took whatever darkness was there and amplified it. And I can't support someone like that in good faith. Good luck with your industry, Mark, as manga eats away at what you have, alongside crowd-funders.
Fairly new to comics. Kingdom Come is probably one of my fave comic book stories so far. Mark Waid needs to read his own work again and maybe get inspired by his own words? Alex Ross seems to get tied to thought provoking comics? Kingdom Come, Uncle Sam, The Marvels, The Worlds Greatest Superheroes. Some of the most interesting & heartfelt stories I have read in comics so far.
agree. im willing to try and separate the artist from their politics.... but when they cant do the same? when they go out of their way to judge, curse and condemn me (their customer) because of what they assume or imagine my politics or beliefs are? then i have to choose self respect and integrity over their disposable wares.
I saw Chuck Dixon at a show and a fan asked about Waid during their time at Crossgen. He said that Waid would have a story turned down and he would trash his desk, sit on the floor and cry. Another time, he smashed a company phone to pieces, parts flying everywhere and had to pay for it. Dixon finished with "Most people thought he was not all there." This was years ago, so if I got anything wrong, apologies to Chuck Dixon.
Yeah, I got a lot of, separate the art from the artist speech after I said I would never buy a Waid comic. But my conscience wouldn’t let me. I’m glad I listened.
One thing is to separate the art from the artist, another is directly funding someone who in his own words hates you. Pirate his books if you want to read him but giving him money is just counterproductive.
It grinds my gears that Jeremy Adams' run on Green Lantern doesn't get more attention. He is one of the most overlooked talents in the industry and I had a nice conversation with him at the Calgary Expo.
If they don’t have everything their way, let it burn. I hate that everyone’s so ego driven and narcissistic, clearly these writers don’t share the same values as the heroes they’re writing. Comics are getting more depressing with each passing month.
It is what it is, comics of big two, now being written by people who rather side with villains than stop their pandering, this is why these books feels so icky, brainwashing in pure form, they don't give a fack about history of characters, retcons left and right just to push LGBT+ in any square hole that there is.

Oh wow. I wasn't aware Mark Waid was a problem. Man I hate the social media of these creators. Going in blind and not thinking about the creator was always my preference. The problem is now their comics read like their social media page as they insert more and more causes in their stories. Mark Waid especially knows the characters and I expect more from him.
This the problem.Waid know very well how write the heroes in your characterizations. Why he try to defend these modern hacks don't even know the heroism concept?
I dropped him completely years ago when he was took to court for tortious interference. Trying and succeeding to shut down independent creators was my final straw. Shortly after that he also called a black youtuber a white supremacist. The man may know how to write a comic but he is one of the most vile people in the industry. I'll never open another one of his books.
My problem with finding out some of my favorite creators are POS is that they retroactively ruin their comics for me. Not only I can't read anything they're writing at the time, I can't read anything they wrote until that point because, especially if we're talking about superheroes, that means they never believed in anything they made. Mark Waid doesn't think like a hero, he thinks like a villain. He's writing about selfless, responsible individuals, and he's actually a fcking overgrown kid who wants everything for himself.
This is the last straw for me too. I won't throw out the books I already own because that doesn't really make sense but I definitely won't buy any moving forward. Screw you Waid!

I did the exact same thing with Waid. People told me Worlds Finest were good and I liked the art plus Mark kept his mouth shut for awhile so I decided to jump back in. I will be skipping his books going forward and hopefully DC/Marvel will learn a lesson in allowing their creators to attack fans and retailers (Though I doubt it).
I took World's Finest and Shazam off my pull yesterday. Calling my shop later to see if it's too late to cancel them for January. If Waid wants me to choose between him and comics, he better be prepared to lose out

I'm with you. Waid does not own or represent the entire comics industry. He only represents himself, and needs to stay in his lane. Despite "WF" being the best book DC puts out on a monthly basis, I will no longer support it because I won't support someone who hates me as a customer and the industry in general. I have always loved superhero comics, and always will, and refuse to support anyone who would rather see the industry die than show some tolerance and let everyone enjoy the hobby on their own terms.

I can’t separate the art from the artist any longer with this guy either, decided yesterday that I’ll be voting with my wallet on Waid from now on. He’s a good writer but the way he’s gone after a fellow pro, especially so disingenuously - knowing fine well his little band of cronies will just jump on the bandwagon and mob handed bully yet another individual online without even stopping to think for themselves or looking at the facts. Enough is enough.
Mark Waid has a long history of being unhinged from punching holes in the wall when an editor didn’t do what he was told or he didn’t get his way. Didio had plenty of flaws but there’s a reason why DC gave Waid an extended “time out.” Waid wasn’t the only one. His colleague Peter David was guilty of screaming at fans and comic shop owners concerned about the health of the industry
I was the one Waid replied to on facebook, Not only did i think my comment was pretty tame i was surprised at the reply and reaction from his followers. Truth be told i unfollowed him and left the chat and haven't checked since other than what i have seen online and youtube. To be honest i couldn't be bothered with the unhinged bs i was seeing all for saying that adults should come together for a common cause to help fix what we all love. I still pull Waid's WF book but the thought did cross my mind of why should i support someone who said what he said.
And this is why I don't have X or Twitter. Some things that you may want to say or that you think in your own mind, do not need to be shared with the rest of the world. Mark Waid should understand that.
Waid's behavior makes it that much harder to read Kingdom Come now. Like, I can't believe such a gigantic manbaby managed to craft such a beautiful story. I might even sell it to a friend and use the money to start collecting Berkserk and Vinland Saga. I just don't want anything to do with him anymore.
Well, the comic book industry is burning, no one at Marvel and DC wants to do anything to stop it. When those two companies fail, Mark Waid will needs to "learn to code". Mark Waid is comic book famous with millions of dollars, but he acts like god. IMO, It's up to the independents.
Waid's response reminds me of Solomon's descension when settling the dispute of which of two women was the mother of a child: *_Which Mark truly loves comics? The one that would rather see it live rather than the one who wants to see it burn._* Waid is a bitter old man, and the sooner he gets out of the industry the better it will be for comics in general.
It is sad to see a creator like Waid, whose work you once enjoyed been mask off fuming with envy in a way that shows how selfish he can be, and really how out of love he has fallen with the medium. Millar, even if many of his stories dont connect with me, cant be denied enjoys comics as as creator and as a fan. For me the loser in all of this is Dan Mora, a great artist whose work is paired with Waid. Hope Mora finds another good team player, or work in a proyect with Millar.

Stuff like this won't stop until the retailers start boycotting creators like this. If shops refuse to carry books from people like Mark Waid and Ron Marz this stuff would stop a lot quicker.
Totally agree with what you're saying about Waid. I refuse to buy anything with his name on it from now on. In fact, there are a few comic creators i won't be supporting anymore. I'd rather spend my money on Mark Millar books at this point.
I read the latest issue Green Lantern last night. It was on the top of my pile. Jeremy Adams writes fun stories. I just want to read fun stories. If Marvel and DC concentrated more on what makes their characters fun I think we’d see a lot more engagement from more readers.
Normally I’ve been able to separate the creator from his asinine comments. But this one as well put me over the edge. As much as I hate to not buy Superman Batman worlds finest, because superman is one of my favorite characters and it’s actually a decent read. I’m done as well. Mark Wade no longer exist in my world, and I absolutely won’t buy anything new that he puts out.

I appreciate that for a long time, Wes sold World's Finest explicitly*in spite* of Waid's behavior. I was tempted, really, to get it. But yeah, I'm noping out. Thanks and sorry. He can write well when he's on, really. But I have limits.
He's not worth my Wednessday money. If you need to complete a collection, you are better off buying back issues, and back issue sales always happen. A comic might increase when it comes out, but if you wait a year, they go down in price.
Waid hasn't been worth a damn since KINGDOM COME. I don't care for anything he writes. He can go where the sun don't shine. His problem is his ego and hubris.
Outside of a few interviews and Twitter postings. I know nothing about Millar. So for all I know, behind the scenes, Millar could be spending his time kicking puppies and clubbing baby seals. But for a guy that could just be quiet and count his money, he seems like he cares about the industry and wants it and the people that work in it to do better. Make money. Stuff like that. But somehow, the people that will constantly whine about how comics broke them or how they need money to pay their rent this or next month treat him like he's the bad guy. It's insane. Millar is like the frog and these nutters are the scorpion.
Bout time. I've been done with him for years after he exposed what a lunatic he is. People keep giving him a pass because he's got some talent and writes comics the way we mostly want them to be written and it's sad that the state of things is so bad that they'll overlook his behavior because fans are desperate for a decent super hero comic in this day and age.
It's about time. I know you are documenting all of this nonsense, and for that you have my respect. You lasted a lot longer than I did. Mark Waid reminds me of a lesson my dad taught me all the way back in elementary: "Always listen to someone when they think punishment is beyond them, because you hear who they truly are." Yes, Mark did a few good runs but you are forgetting the circumstances of those runs. Those runs got eyes on dying i.p. and revitalized some, it help companies not go under. Mark thought that because of these accolades he was beyond reproach [I am not saying he saved the industry; a lot of people did their part, Mark was just in that group. Think of Mark as being there when USA took Bagdad and he thinks he did it alone, and tries to take all the credit, while in reality he was in the 22th brigade out of a total of 23]. After his success, we should have known what was up in the 2k. None of his books got off the ground. Every story had a theme of hatred of family, hatred of American tradition, or hatred of responsibility (especially men' responsibility). Then he was brought on to Ultimate Spiderman and made Miles, that is where I stopped. Everything about Miles is a stereotype. His motive isn't definite because every time Miles is given a story to his self, it devolves into 1970's stereotype b.s. about black people-- that's not even real [real as at least be close enough to be a trop]. It is not a coincidence that every time Waid writes Miles, he only cares for shoes, hip-hop, and "his parents not getting him", or some dumbass preachy rant about "racism". I digress... In short Waid is a lucky idiot that failed to push his self as an artist. Someone clapped for him and his head exploded. And everyone has been to nice to tell him the truth for 13 years now. Trust me, as an artist, there are those--artist-- out there that need a reality check every now and then because they lack the discipline to control their egos.

I’ve talked before about being a fan of both Captain America and U.S.Agent, so I’d like to share something from the storyline The Captain that applies to some people in real life. John Walker started out doing a good job as Captain America because despite his arrogance, he wanted to honor the mantle he’d been given. Even though he didn’t like Steve Rogers, there were times he thought about what Captain America would do in a given situation. However, he let his anger & pain overwhelm him and turned away those who tried to help him, and it ruined his career as Captain America. Fortunately for John, he was able to continue a heroic career because despite being a jerk at times, he still had morals and care for people (I can give some examples if people want). Unfortunately, some people in real life let their anger, pain, and pride consume them and don’t let go of their pride so they can improve their situation; they’d rather attack others in a vain attempt to feel something. I don’t care what your politics are, but if you’re being eaten alive by anger and hatred, get help because that’s no way to live.
Is the Priest run a good John Walker comic? He was my favorite character in Falcon and Winter Soldier and I wanted to read more of him, but so far I've only found Priest run.

I went from getting excited about it to feeling it was a waste of time to thinking, “You know, it’s not half bad!” There were some things that were weird and confusing (including a fake-out I’m glad was just a fake-out), but I think Priest did make an effort to be fair and respectful with both John and Lemar (The moments with Battlestar were the best parts of the series). I highly recommend getting a TPB called U.S.Agent: The Good Fight which collects a number of stories with John (including the first two U.S. Agent miniseries). I also recommend Captain America: The Captain, although that one will be pricier.
Waid did the equivalent of sticking his index fingers in his ears, closing his eyes, and yelling “lalalalala” when legitimate points were brought up. What an absolute child.
He may have a point if alt-right actually meant anything bad and wasn’t a generic slur regularly applied to everyone to the right Karl Marx. The whole left/right spectrum has much less meaning today and often just a tool by extremists to slur other extremists both ways, many people including politicians actual hold a spectrum of views some of which would have historically been considered a mix of left and right.

I really enjoyed his first run on World's Finest and was just about to purchase the second volume, along with the first collected volume of Shazam, when he had his idiotic meltdown on twitter. That was it for me. I will no longer purchase anything from the guy. He's a dumpster fire of a human being and I'm not going to give any of my money to him.
It needs to be said. Ryan Higgins is a shop owner in Sunnyvale, CA aka the heart of Silicon Valley and progressive nonsense. He himself said in posts on X that he has hated Mark Millar since the time that Millar once said that Marvel should pause/delay the entire Marvel line so it wouldn't interfere with his Civil War comic that was coming out at the time. Since that point, Higgins has hated Millar. He was only too happy the fan the flames and paint Millar as a hateful bigot. I do find it funny that it turns out that not only is Penny Parker (an alias) working on a book that expands on her exposure of the whisper network that has ruined careers and reputations, but there is another book coming from a UK writer that is going to expose other miscreants *cough Rich Johnston cough* in the comics industry. That 2nd book is what Millar was making reference to.

Well when a artist goes full diva I tend to pick up the stuff they made pre-owned. Cake & eat it scenario as they get zero profit off a resale. I got pre-owned Waid & EVS stuff.

Hate to break it to you but they won’t hire these old creator’s because they are white, usually straight and male but most importantly, they won’t bend as easily to the new religion.
The best offensive strike I can think of, as a humble comic fan or buyer is this: To find the wokest SJW store you can and then to order from them, one or more of Mark Millar's, recent, or older, books. Seems like a win-win.

Back in the day, Marvel and DC made up 90% of my pull list. After 10 years of being away from comics, I came back 2 years ago. My Marvel/DC pull list was about 50%. Today, I have 3 DC books and 0 Marvel. I've loved comics since I was a teenager in the 80s. I can't support what DC/Marvel have become. Maybe someday, but there are dozens of indie comics that are good, and I will continue to support them as long as they keep producing good stories and art without the politics.
@MatthewLoh-ru1mw I've read a lot of good manga (berserk, Akira, battle angel, death note, battle royal gits) problem I have with manga is that most of the titles are silly and/or pervy. Not what I want. If you have any recommendations for mature titles with good adult stories, I would love to hear about them.
I definitely like a lot of mark waids comics but I cannot beleive he said mark millar's star is fading. Didn't all of mark millar's comics last year sell insane numbers. And don't forget the 100 million dollars he got from Netflix or the kickass, kingsman, wanted movies.
Yup. Big Game has had about as much buzz as anything else lately, plus Millar moving over to Dark Horse was (correctly) viewed as significant news when it was announced. Millar is many things. A fading star is not one of them

This is why I hate the whole politics thing in comics. I don't mind of people are alt right, extreme left or how important political things are in your life. I have friends who are like that (on both sides). I don't praise or condemn people for it. But saying stuff like "rather see comics die then work with the other side" is just something I hate so much. You rather destroy something that brought joy, inspiration to people all over the world for decades then work with someone you don't like!? You can work with them, never talk politics and share your love for Superman. Common ground can make people work together for the greater good! Sorry I can't stand stuff like that....

Maybe Ill get the rest of shazam and or worlds finest down the road somewhere second hand (or maybe not). At least then waid and dc wont get any % of $ from it and DC wont be encouraged to continue down the path their on or whom theyre working with. doubtful but at least ill have made my stance (ridiculous i even HAVE to have a stance ungh, but they insist). I deliberately avoided waid's work for a while now but got sucked into worlds finest (and honestly i dont think i even realized he was writing shazam) now i do (thanks). theyll both be cancelled from my lcs hold and ill reinstate my ban of waid. Knowing how little he thinks of me / people like me or his customers and how much he would no doubt positively HATE me if we spent five minutes together just because we surely dont see eye to eye on every little thing, screw him.

@@EvandroACruz Joshua Williamson will be replacing PKJ, Jason Aaron is also writing ON action comics as well. (there are rotating creative teams!)

I'm also done supporting Waid after what he said about LCSs. I always was familiar with his temper and even attempted to ignore his political rage rants and hatred. But I can't ignore what he said. I always try to separate the art from the artist, evaluating the craft. And Mark Waid for a long time was one of my favorite CB writers. Kingdom Come is in my top five favorite comics and his F4 run is criminally underrated. But Mark Waid is a lunatic and someone who should know better than to go after LCSs given he's been to them and has sales from them. But I guess politics really rotted his brain or took whatever darkness was there and amplified it. And I can't support someone like that in good faith. Good luck with your industry, Mark, as manga eats away at what you have, alongside crowd-funders.
Fairly new to comics. Kingdom Come is probably one of my fave comic book stories so far. Mark Waid needs to read his own work again and maybe get inspired by his own words? Alex Ross seems to get tied to thought provoking comics? Kingdom Come, Uncle Sam, The Marvels, The Worlds Greatest Superheroes. Some of the most interesting & heartfelt stories I have read in comics so far.
agree. im willing to try and separate the artist from their politics.... but when they cant do the same? when they go out of their way to judge, curse and condemn me (their customer) because of what they assume or imagine my politics or beliefs are? then i have to choose self respect and integrity over their disposable wares.

I saw Chuck Dixon at a show and a fan asked about Waid during their time at Crossgen. He said that Waid would have a story turned down and he would trash his desk, sit on the floor and cry. Another time, he smashed a company phone to pieces, parts flying everywhere and had to pay for it. Dixon finished with "Most people thought he was not all there." This was years ago, so if I got anything wrong, apologies to Chuck Dixon.
Yeah, I got a lot of, separate the art from the artist speech after I said I would never buy a Waid comic. But my conscience wouldn’t let me. I’m glad I listened.

It grinds my gears that Jeremy Adams' run on Green Lantern doesn't get more attention. He is one of the most overlooked talents in the industry and I had a nice conversation with him at the Calgary Expo.

Oh wow. I wasn't aware Mark Waid was a problem. Man I hate the social media of these creators. Going in blind and not thinking about the creator was always my preference. The problem is now their comics read like their social media page as they insert more and more causes in their stories. Mark Waid especially knows the characters and I expect more from him.

I dropped him completely years ago when he was took to court for tortious interference. Trying and succeeding to shut down independent creators was my final straw. Shortly after that he also called a black youtuber a white supremacist. The man may know how to write a comic but he is one of the most vile people in the industry. I'll never open another one of his books.

My problem with finding out some of my favorite creators are POS is that they retroactively ruin their comics for me. Not only I can't read anything they're writing at the time, I can't read anything they wrote until that point because, especially if we're talking about superheroes, that means they never believed in anything they made. Mark Waid doesn't think like a hero, he thinks like a villain. He's writing about selfless, responsible individuals, and he's actually a fcking overgrown kid who wants everything for himself.
This is the last straw for me too. I won't throw out the books I already own because that doesn't really make sense but I definitely won't buy any moving forward. Screw you Waid!

I did the exact same thing with Waid. People told me Worlds Finest were good and I liked the art plus Mark kept his mouth shut for awhile so I decided to jump back in. I will be skipping his books going forward and hopefully DC/Marvel will learn a lesson in allowing their creators to attack fans and retailers (Though I doubt it).
We tolerated the behavior for so long for the sake of an industry we all love. Enough.

I'm with you. Waid does not own or represent the entire comics industry. He only represents himself, and needs to stay in his lane. Despite "WF" being the best book DC puts out on a monthly basis, I will no longer support it because I won't support someone who hates me as a customer and the industry in general. I have always loved superhero comics, and always will, and refuse to support anyone who would rather see the industry die than show some tolerance and let everyone enjoy the hobby on their own terms.

I was the one Waid replied to on facebook, Not only did i think my comment was pretty tame i was surprised at the reply and reaction from his followers. Truth be told i unfollowed him and left the chat and haven't checked since other than what i have seen online and youtube.

Waid is a bitter old man, and the sooner he gets out of the industry the better it will be for comics in general.
It is sad to see a creator like Waid, whose work you once enjoyed been mask off fuming with envy in a way that shows how selfish he can be, and really how out of love he has fallen with the medium. Millar, even if many of his stories dont connect with me, cant be denied enjoys comics as as creator and as a fan. For me the loser in all of this is Dan Mora, a great artist whose work is paired with Waid. Hope Mora finds another good team player, or work in a proyect with Millar.

Totally agree with what you're saying about Waid. I refuse to buy anything with his name on it from now on. In fact, there are a few comic creators i won't be supporting anymore. I'd rather spend my money on Mark Millar books at this point.

I read the latest issue Green Lantern last night. It was on the top of my pile. Jeremy Adams writes fun stories. I just want to read fun stories. If Marvel and DC concentrated more on what makes their characters fun I think we’d see a lot more engagement from more readers.
Normally I’ve been able to separate the creator from his asinine comments. But this one as well put me over the edge. As much as I hate to not buy Superman Batman worlds finest, because superman is one of my favorite characters and it’s actually a decent read. I’m done as well. Mark Wade no longer exist in my world, and I absolutely won’t buy anything new that he puts out.

I cancelled my Shazam comic pull at my LCS today. I asked to be put down for the first Mark Millar book from Dark Horse.
I appreciate that for a long time, Wes sold World's Finest explicitly*in spite* of Waid's behavior. I was tempted, really, to get it. But yeah, I'm noping out. Thanks and sorry. He can write well when he's on, really. But I have limits.
I haven't missed an issue and in fact is the only DC book I still buy. But you know, I think I'm done.

He's not worth my Wednessday money. If you need to complete a collection, you are better off buying back issues, and back issue sales always happen. A comic might increase when it comes out, but if you wait a year, they go down in price.
Waid hasn't been worth a damn since KINGDOM COME. I don't care for anything he writes. He can go where the sun don't shine. His problem is his ego and hubris.
Outside of a few interviews and Twitter postings. I know nothing about Millar. So for all I know, behind the scenes, Millar could be spending his time kicking puppies and clubbing baby seals. But for a guy that could just be quiet and count his money, he seems like he cares about the industry and wants it and the people that work in it to do better. Make money. Stuff like that. But somehow, the people that will constantly whine about how comics broke them or how they need money to pay their rent this or next month treat him like he's the bad guy. It's insane.

Bout time. I've been done with him for years after he exposed what a lunatic he is. People keep giving him a pass because he's got some talent and writes comics the way we mostly want them to be written and it's sad that the state of things is so bad that they'll overlook his behavior because fans are desperate for a decent super hero comic in this day and age.

Yes, Mark did a few good runs but you are forgetting the circumstances of those runs. Those runs got eyes on dying i.p. and revitalized some, it help companies not go under. Mark thought that because of these accolades he was beyond reproach [I am not saying he saved the industry; a lot of people did their part, Mark was just in that group. Think of Mark as being there when USA took Bagdad and he thinks he did it alone, and tries to take all the credit, while in reality he was in the 22th brigade out of a total of 23]. After his success, we should have known what was up in the 2k. None of his books got off the ground. Every story had a theme of hatred of family, hatred of American tradition, or hatred of responsibility (especially men' responsibility).
Then he was brought on to Ultimate Spiderman and made Miles, that is where I stopped. Everything about Miles is a stereotype. His motive isn't definite because every time Miles is given a story to his self, it devolves into 1970's stereotype b.s. about black people-- that's not even real [real as at least be close enough to be a trop]. It is not a coincidence that every time Waid writes Miles, he only cares for shoes, hip-hop, and "his parents not getting him", or some dumbass preachy rant about "racism".
I digress...
In short Waid is a lucky idiot that failed to push his self as an artist. Someone clapped for him and his head exploded. And everyone has been to nice to tell him the truth for 13 years now. Trust me, as an artist, there are those--artist-- out there that need a reality check every now and then because they lack the discipline to control their egos.

I’ve talked before about being a fan of both Captain America and U.S.Agent, so I’d like to share something from the storyline The Captain that applies to some people in real life. John Walker started out doing a good job as Captain America because despite his arrogance, he wanted to honor the mantle he’d been given. Even though he didn’t like Steve Rogers, there were times he thought about what Captain America would do in a given situation. However, he let his anger & pain overwhelm him and turned away those who tried to help him, and it ruined his career as Captain America. Fortunately for John, he was able to continue a heroic career because despite being a jerk at times, he still had morals and care for people (I can give some examples if people want). Unfortunately, some people in real life let their anger, pain, and pride consume them and don’t let go of their pride so they can improve their situation; they’d rather attack others in a vain attempt to feel something. I don’t care what your politics are, but if you’re being eaten alive by anger and hatred, get help because that’s no way to live.
Is the Priest run a good John Walker comic? He was my favorite character in Falcon and Winter Soldier and I wanted to read more of him, but so far I've only found Priest run.

I went from getting excited about it to feeling it was a waste of time to thinking, “You know, it’s not half bad!” There were some things that were weird and confusing (including a fake-out I’m glad was just a fake-out), but I think Priest did make an effort to be fair and respectful with both John and Lemar (The moments with Battlestar were the best parts of the series). I highly recommend getting a TPB called U.S.Agent: The Good Fight which collects a number of stories with John (including the first two U.S. Agent miniseries). I also recommend Captain America: The Captain, although that one will be pricier.
Waid did the equivalent of sticking his index fingers in his ears, closing his eyes, and yelling “lalalalala” when legitimate points were brought up. What an absolute child.
He may have a point if alt-right actually meant anything bad and wasn’t a generic slur regularly applied to everyone to the right Karl Marx. The whole left/right spectrum has much less meaning today and often just a tool by extremists to slur other extremists both ways, many people including politicians actual hold a spectrum of views some of which would have historically been considered a mix of left and right.

I really enjoyed his first run on World's Finest and was just about to purchase the second volume, along with the first collected volume of Shazam, when he had his idiotic meltdown on twitter. That was it for me. I will no longer purchase anything from the guy. He's a dumpster fire of a human being and I'm not going to give any of my money to him.
It needs to be said. Ryan Higgins is a shop owner in Sunnyvale, CA aka the heart of Silicon Valley and progressive nonsense. He himself said in posts on X that he has hated Mark Millar since the time that Millar once said that Marvel should pause/delay the entire Marvel line so it wouldn't interfere with his Civil War comic that was coming out at the time. Since that point, Higgins has hated Millar. He was only too happy the fan the flames and paint Millar as a hateful bigot.
I do find it funny that it turns out that not only is Penny Parker (an alias) working on a book that expands on her exposure of the whisper network that has ruined careers and reputations, but there is another book coming from a UK writer that is going to expose other miscreants *cough Rich Johnston cough* in the comics industry. That 2nd book is what Millar was making reference to.

The best offensive strike I can think of, as a humble comic fan or buyer is this: To find the wokest SJW store you can and then to order from them, one or more of Mark Millar's, recent, or older, books. Seems like a win-win.

Back in the day, Marvel and DC made up 90% of my pull list. After 10 years of being away from comics, I came back 2 years ago. My Marvel/DC pull list was about 50%. Today, I have 3 DC books and 0 Marvel. I've loved comics since I was a teenager in the 80s. I can't support what DC/Marvel have become. Maybe someday, but there are dozens of indie comics that are good, and I will continue to support them as long as they keep producing good stories and art without the politics.

At the end of the day I think we all want this industry to thrive because enthusiasm for it still exist but it doesn’t need any pompous people like mark who’s so willing to shit can the industry so effortlessly if it means not having to work with people who may be on the other side of the political spectrum. This is why I hate the whole politics thing in comics. I don't mind of people are alt right, extreme left or how important political things are in your life. I have friends who are like that (on both sides). I don't praise or condemn people for it. But saying stuff like "rather see comics die then work with the other side" is just something I hate so much. You rather destroy something that brought joy, inspiration to people all over the world for decades then work with someone you don't like!? You can work with them, never talk politics and share your love for Superman. Common ground can make people work together for the greater good! Sorry I can't stand stuff like that....

Maybe Ill get the rest of shazam and or worlds finest down the road somewhere second hand (or maybe not). At least then waid and dc wont get any % of $ from it and DC wont be encouraged to continue down the path their on or whom theyre working with. doubtful but at least ill have made my stance (ridiculous i even HAVE to have a stance ungh, but they insist). I deliberately avoided waid's work for a while now but got sucked into worlds finest (and honestly i dont think i even realized he was writing shazam) now i do (thanks). theyll both be cancelled from my lcs hold and ill reinstate my ban of waid. Knowing how little he thinks of me / people like me or his customers and how much he would no doubt positively HATE me if we spent five minutes together just because we surely dont see eye to eye on every little thing, screw him.
