Cleaning the XTool D1

- I have received requests to show my cleaning method that I use. I have had my machine since October and it has ran for hours and cut many large jobs. To date, I have had no issues with the machine and it works great. Here is my method of cleaning my XTool D1 after 100 box cut outs, 7 stove cover 13 inch engraves and 7 leather patches.
Also, my opinion why you should always run the air assist.
For templates that I have made, check out my Etsy shop. I build files for projects and tools for laser engravers.

Thanks. You may not be a professional, but your "common sense" approach to everything really helps a novice like me. I watched this video months ago but re watched to make sure I was covering all cleaning aspects. Realized my air assist didn't come with (or I missed) any tape to help seal it to the head. So tonight ill be performing the leak test you showed and adding some tape. Haven't had an issue, that I'm aware of, but might as well get the best possible function out of it. - thanks
So far, I haven’t had any issues with mine. Thanks
The most entertaining video of a cleaning job AND it is very informative. Great job! Thnx
Thanks. Cleaning isn’t exactly an exciting topic.
I am fairly new to the laser world but it didn't make sense why folks would turn off air assist while running projects. I so love your illustration. 😆 🤣 pretty straightforward. Thanks for the video!
Thanks, it seems to keep the machine cleaner
Love the video, as always. Very informative. Thanks!
Thanks
I bought from eBay, Sleeve (Plain) Bearings 14mm Bore 16mm OD 15mm for nozzle and only need 1 wrap of tape to get a very snug fit. No need for set screws especially the one in the way of crosshair.
Nice
Thank you for the video!
Your welcome, I hope it helps
Thanks for the video. Very informative.
Thanks
Great video and I love your common sense. I have the same approach to cleaning and Air Assist and my D1 has done everything I have asked it to do way easier then I thought it would be. I have not even cleaned it since I put on the Air assist but it does not really get dirty. I plan to do a similar cleaning job as you this week.
Glad you like it. I try to keep things simple.
Thank you so much for doing this video. It is a great video to watch. very informitive.
Thanks, I had alot of folks asking. I am no pro but my machine has held up after a lot of use.
I would really suggest that you tell everyone to clean their honeycomb bed to cut down on flashbacks.
I have. Even show how I do it... ua-cam.com/video/vHu8Dz6or8w/v-deo.html
Great video. Just curious though, why you didn't clean the laser lens. I use a little alcohol on a q-tip as it does get dirty.
Mostly because it doesn't have an external lens. My D1 standard didn't come with one. I ordered it shortly after they were released and it has never had one.
I had to remove my air..I was getting really bad build up on bottom of cone especially on tumblers..worked great when cutting
I haven't had an issue so far.
I’m going to check the top of cone is flush like you suggest..THANKS for the great vids very helpful and informative
I work with a whole range of materials. Some of them engrave and/or cut better with the air assist on and some of them work better with the air assist off. Therefore, occasionally when I am cleaning my D1, after I remove the air assist nozzle, I remove the threaded ring, right above the nozzle so I can get access to the lens. Then using the appropriate solution and cloth that is made for cleaning camera lenses, I carefully clean the lens. I find it quite dirty at times and then if it is not cleaned, I have to increase the laser power to get the same results that I get from a clean lens. If you don’t feel comfortable cleaning the lens then for heck sake DON’T clean it. But having worked with optical systems through most of my career, I often clean my lens.
Inprefer to avoid it but occasionally it is needed. Thanks
After watching other videos on cleaning and lens changing. I looked at my module lens to find out I do not have 2nd lens like others. Xtool claims the model I have doesn't have 2nd debris lens. From what I was told the 2nd lens is there to keep dust and debris from getting to the focus lens. On your module under where you have tape do you have 2nd lens close to the tip or do you only have 1 lens as well up near the body of the laser?
My older X1 didn't come with an outer lens either. My newer Pro has the outer lens. My old machine is still going after over a year of hard work.
@@TheClackShack good to know thanks!!
Maybe use some dry lubricant? Especially since it is subject heat/ cold and humidity?
I use the stuff they sent for now. It seems to work pretty well and doesn't collect alot of dust. It seems to stay in one place. Cold really isn't an issue here... heat, yea
@@TheClackShack Thanks for making these videos.
My laser never moves as smoothly back and forth as yours and everyone’s does. Even since I got it. I’ve only had it about a month. How do I make it go really smooth?and it always hooks onto the thick meshy cord as it goes by.
It needs to be adjusted properly during assembly. It may need the belt tension adjusted. Here is the assembly video that shows how I adjust my D1. ua-cam.com/video/VPa4aiMU-Sg/v-deo.html
@@TheClackShack thank you but this video isn’t for the d1 pro 😢

In cleaning my xTool D1 10w this morning noted that the lens is "pitted" right in the center of the glass lens. I had cleaned the lens a month ago and was okay then. At first thought maybe was dirty but on close inspection pretty certain is damaged. Waiting to hear back from xTool concerning availability of replacement, website shows only a 5w lens is available. Do you have any experience with this sort of issue? Thanks,
I have not had any issue with lenses on mine. I have seen some aftermarket fixes but can't speak to the quality.
