  • Today's video covers 4 exercises that can help reduce shoulder pain due to subacromial bursitis and/or tendinopathy of the supraspinatus (rotator cuff) or biceps tendons. All three of these structures are located in the subacromial space and can become irritated with overhead movements.

    No doubt I caused injury to my right shoulder by pushing too hard with dumbbells. To raise my arm over my head causes sharp pain. I am absolutely amazed how I can do these exercises with no pain at all! I have extreme mistrust of mainstream medicine so anything I can do for myself is a win. I will see my most excellent chiropractor in 3 days but I expect I will be doing much better by then. P.S. I don’t have long enough counter or table space in my small apartment for the slide exercise but found that using a chair next to an ironing board works great. Thank you and God bless you for sharing your knowledge.

    I cannot believe you just posted this video. This is exactly what I've been looking for to help with my shoulder pain. The pain starts precisely where you pointed to - the subacromial space, and then proceeds down into the bicep, and some creeps into the forearm. My doctor believes I may have an impingement, and I have an appt with my ortho in about 3 weeks. Meanwhile, I'm going to use the first two exercises you showed to see if I can get the pain to calm down a bit. Thank you so much for posting!

    • @RehabScience
      @RehabScience  Рік тому +17

      I’m so glad the video was helpful! The first two exercises will help keep your shoulder from losing mobility and can help reduce pain in many cases. Shoulder impingement is one of the most common shoulder problems, especially for pain in this area, so it sounds like you are on the right track.

    Funny how subtle differences to an exercise help. I’ve been doing the uppercut motion with emphasising on controlling the driving movement with my elbow but keeping my palm parallel - I found this helped with my teris minor and around that area. I’ve also have the problem at the front as you describe and the twist into the uppercut really works well, thank you!

    I am in my late sixties. A few weeks ago I had the flu shot. I thought the nurse had gone in a bit high. Since then I have this incredible pain with movement. Using my arm at normal level is not a problem. Lifting or stretching or even backward movement causes intense pain for a couple of seconds even when I return to normal. Initially the burning pain radiated to my elbow, which I associated with some nerve involvement. My GP wants to “see.” I will try these exercises and see how it goes. Thank you.

    This is the most straight-forward and clear explanation on UA-cam I've seen and I've watched literally dozens of these videos on shoulder pain. I'm trying to figure out if I have bursitis, torn RC, shoulder impingement , tendonitis, frozen shoulder or osteoporosis. I've been playing guitar for 45yrs so my left arm which is the shoulder giving me trouble is in the 'playing position' for several hours everyday. I've been exercising with resistance training and have a history of doing so most of my life but let myself slide the past few years being just absorbed in work through all of the covid garbage. I've been back in the gym and stretching regularly this past year but now my shoulder is giving me a lot pain moving on certain planes. It feels like there's some mild spasming in there too at night. Be interesting to see if this regimen of exercises helps improve the condition. Thank you

      Thank you for the feedback. I’m glad the video was helpful. If your a range of motion is still decent in your shoulder, then it is unlikely that you have frozen shoulder. Considering the time off during Covid, I wouldn’t be surprised if you’re getting a bit of bursitis and/or rotator cuff tendinopathy as these often occur together. These types of issues will especially flareup when a person has had time off from exercise, and the tissues have become a bit deconditioned. Give the excess a try and let me know how it goes. If you progress gradually and allow the tissues to adapt, I wouldn’t be surprised if things improve significantly in a few weeks.

    I just got the ultrasound done for my shoulder and there is articular surface 5mm subscapularis tendon insertion tear, supraspinatus calcific tendonitis, bursitis and AC join capsular thickening - will these exercises help or should i do any more of other shoulder exercises too?

    Thank you so much for this video. I’m a gardener and this happens when I pull weeds. It’s super painful for weeks on end. Ice helps but I knew I needed to exercise this area. This video is exactly what I was looking for. Again, thank you.

    I have this pain and have gor years now bones seem to be coming thru everything but skin. Most likely from atrophy. Of all the years of physio and videos I've never seen the uppercut. I'll be trying it tomorrow with my other rotator cuff exercises.

    Thank you. Great video, your instructions are presented in a calm, clear, informative way, and to the point. My impingement includes my shoulder blade being out of alignment. When I lean forward about 20 degrees, facing a mirror, and do a simple, relaxed "chicken wing" flap with my arms, the one shoulder blade instantly raises up quite visibly. I've only found one UA-cam therapist who's even touched on this shoulder blade issue. Obviously, it's caused by rolling shoulders forward through a lifetime, and calls for strengthening back muscles and better posture, but love to know if you have exercises for this particular issue. Thanks

    In the uppercut exercise is the hand going towards the center of your body or is it going straight up such that it stays on our side.
