Love the content. I just built my first 3" high powered "budget" drone and ran into some of the same issues but in the end it flew amazing. Totally worth the struggle.😁

Alright this was a good take on making a cheap clone build.
But if you want the Mr Steele confidence and performance from your quad while still making a clone here are the changes you need:
    1) Readytosky clone Apex (this is the best)
    2) Tmotor Velox veloce 2306.5 2550kv motors ( if 6S then choose low KV)
    3) BL_Heli32 ESC and F7 FC , running BF4.3 with the supafly 5" preset
    a) in PID tuning tab , Throttle expo = 0.50
    b) throttle mid = 0.3
    4) ELRS 250Hz preset , low latency is key to how Steele flies
    5) Last but not the least if your vtx isnt super clean, then use additional PDB to clean up video system power
Otherwise everything in this video is going to get you a really well flying quad.
    6) 8k/8k gyro -pid loop rate, Dshot600 and RPM filtering are must
    7) lastly dont forget to put in Steele's rates if you want to make it exact

I agree with you for everything exept the frame ...it comes to a point that if you want to SAVE the money, you need to invest in premium frame like Apex!On the long run and abuse it stays consistant, with no issues. For whoops its opossite,if you want long lasting whoop you need to invest in good fc and good motors.

Wow that build sounded like a giant PIA....
Sorry to hear you blew your ESC, that sucks. Made contact with those screws on the bottom perhaps?
As for your question, I think it depends. I started flying a Tinyhawk 2 FS after graduating from the simulator. Once I felt that I was beginning to outgrow that quad, my first 5 inch was a quad I built. I feel that building is the best way to go because of all the learning you have to do along the way. How to pick parts, how to match things, how to solder, how the quad WORKS internally, how everything goes together. You just don't learn any of that by buying one off the shelf. So exactly in your test case, when you crash and something breaks you A) Know how to figure out what went wrong and B) How to fix it.
That being said I've lately been helping another pilot get in the air recently. After flying a Tinyhawk of his own he splashed right in with a GEPRC Mark 5. By his estimation he just wanted to jump right in and buying that quad was about as much as building one on his own without the complications. Especially as you pointed out build complications, like not having the right tool or missing screws or all of those annoying little things we've all had to deal with at one point or another. If you've built a few quads already you probably have quite a stockpile of stuff, I know I do. But when you're first starting out it's a real bitch. It's been working for him so far, but then again he hasn't smashed it into the pavement yet either.
I believe building is ultimately the best way to get you involved and understanding the hobby. I guess the "it depends" part really focuses on your budget. With everything costing so much more nowadays, the cost of building your own is about as much if not more than a solid RTF build off the shelf. And for someone just starting out all of those "hidden costs" like tools, irons, extra screws and wire add up and making building in most cases the more expensive option. And I get some people just can't afford that, especially when you factor that getting into the hobby requires a decent chunk of change when you factor a radio and goggles. Even "cheap" radios and goggles still add to that bottom line and only serve make the cost higher when you realize you need to upgrade to something better.

No contact with the screws because I replaced them for the right length.
Turtle mode after a crash and it probably popped a fet. I’ll replace with the Mambo 40a ESC and it will be rock solid.

Those jehmcu expresslrs rx are pretty bad qc. I bought two of them. Neither worked. Looked at the boards under a magnifying glass. Capacitors and resistors were misaligned all over the place and touching each other where they shouldn't.

I think AliExpress has good parts & prices for fvp drone. I bought almost all of my parts from there. For e.g Tmotor L1604 motors x4 for $36. Geprc cinelog35 V2 analog elrs for $169. ISDT PD60 for $10.20. HGLRC M100 GPS for $9.30 etc

This sausage meal looks like the real deal. You have a toast, sausage, ketchup, mustard and anything more in it? Onions and bacon, perhaps?

    • @DarrenAllatt
      @DarrenAllatt  Рік тому

Just the basics. A snag placed diagonally across the bread with onions on top and tomato sauce.
Although unfortunately Bunnings have mandated the onion to go on the bottom of the snag now because of Health & Safety.
