Another GG6 fan here. I put the handle on it in the position of a platypus head... Doubles as a stand when I need to set it down while it has a pad on.
All right everyone you've convinced me to try the washer mod on the two that were struggling with stalling issues. I will be doing an updated video once I get that completed on the G9 and the 15 mm long throw to see if that changes my opinion.
I did and have used it a few times since then. It still stalls slightly but it gets the job done. Its just different from the gg6 and I cant use the same technique on the g9 as the gg6
Im new to using a DA. I have the G9 and G8. Like them both. I've done 2 cars so far. I did notice the stalling at lower speeds also. But for me being new I think that may be a good thing. I also did figure out that turning up the speed wod help with the stalling.
I have a 2007 Subaru STI that had a clear bra on it for the first 13 years. When I removed it earlier this summer, I had a line across the hood where the clear bra was as well as a ton of swirl marks. I had always detailed the car but never polished it. I purchased the G9 and put a 5" backing plate on it and got a bottle of their correcting cream. It was the first time I ever polished a car and I couldn't be happier with the results. I would suggest trying a 5" backing plate instead of the 6" that came with the polisher. It was easy to control and did a really nice job. I would say most of the swirl marks are now gone from the car. After it I polished it and did an alcohol wipe down, I put on two coats of ceramic sealant spray. The car looks fantastic. Definitely give the smaller backing plate a try. It may be an optical illusion but the backing plates on the other two polishers looked smaller than the 6" plate you had on the G9.
Good video thanks! Maybe adding the washer might fix the issue with the G9. Please give us an update once you contact Griots , to find out how they fix the issue or mod, or if you had to change your technique to make it work better.
Awesome video! I to started with all meguiars, meguiars G110 V2. Great polisher! Was going to get the maxshine 21 mm pro, but heard it will stall like no other. I put a thicker washer on my G9..no stalling at all now. This is just the kind of comparison I wanted on these kinds of polishers. I now know the G9 was the right move.🙂
I just picked up the G9. Made the mistake of going with a Bauer yesterday. It was like a machine gun and took it back real fast. Thre Bauer was trying to hop off my Lincoln and also had an allen wrench sticking out the side. Took that Allen wrench right off. Who would think to put something like that there? 99% of the guys who would use that have a ton of allan's. Im sure I'll be happier with the GG9

In the Griot's live Q&A videos, they do not reveal the name if their new manufacturer, but have said it is a Japanese company, not Chinese. So, definitely not Maxshine anymore.
@@Erix7810 Everything Rupes is made, manufactured and designed in the Rupes facility first in Italy before operating it manufacturing in the US, Most of flex products are made in china for production purposes but flex design create and test their products in Germany first-hand then multi produce in china for demand and produce their products for mass quanity purposes to distribute throughout the world. Yes, I have the Gg6 and if i am not mistaken the new g9 stalls like all new ones in order protect paint from being pressed, overheated and removing more of the clear coat by not being kind of consistent. I have now Flex for the last 3 years which is great and I started with one from Harbor Freight. One of the things I will recommend you is to remove the grease it comes with and use a better one which can be purchased at Walmart, Autozone, Advanced Auto. Long throw polishers have more of a tendency to stall when it comes to uneven pressure and curved body panels. This occurs regardless of how much power the machine has, assuming the bearings aren’t defective and the backing plate isn’t making contact with the polisher head (hence washer mod on rupes machines). Keep in mind even if the pad seems like it’s stalling in these situations, the throw of the polisher is still there and correcting. Not ideal but it’s still working. Additionally long throw polishers need less pressure. Not talking just the weight of the machine but definitely don’t need to put nearly as much pressure as with the GG6. This is why thinner pads are ideal with these types of machines. With curved panels the only solution is to go down to a smaller pad that accommodates the panel better or even a dedicated small machine like the Griots G8 mini. If not, just use the GG6 with a thicker pad on these surfaces.
You make some great points about the Maxshine. I’ve found through trial and error how to make mine work w/ less pressure. I haven’t had any stalling issues. I’ve got to make do because I can’t afford multiple polishers.
I'd definitely recommend switching to a 5" backing pad for the G9, it's easier to work with, and it focuses the power of the machine in a smaller area which should help with some of the stalling you might be experiencing. To be honest though, a lot of beginners have a problem with stalling DA machines. Until they work out the proper muscle memory for how much pressure to apply so as to not stall DA polishers in areas like body line transitions, and curved/edgy panels. Not saying that's you problem personally, but DA's do require a specific technique to maximize their performance, run smoothly, and not stall the pads. Just another factor to consider.
Bought the G9 and loved it. My love affair lasted all of two cars as the motor stopped working. Took it right back and got my money back. Now Im waiting for my G8 to fry as well. I'll have to deal directly with Griot's for that one.
Quality control within MaxShine is suffering , I have the G9 and both 15M/ Pro as well and I’ve figured out my machine but they do stall. I got a excell and drilled a slightly bigger hole so it’ll fit the MaxShine and I also use the Meguiar’s thin pads and I’m getting better results .

@Attention 2 Details w/Chelsea The reason you are thinking the M15 is stalling is because the throw is 15mm(The other polishers have a much shorter throw. In turn they do not have this effect). So it throws the backing plate 15mm out and makes the polisher look as though its not to its full speed/stalling. In reality this is an amazing beginner and professional polisher. This polisher is loved by Wilson Auto Detailing, Pan TheOrganizer, Apex Detail, Dallas Paint Correction & Auto Detail etc the list just keeps going.
I am trying to use it more to see if its that or if its defective. Ive reached out to Maxshine but no one ever responds l to me. Very unimpressed with their customer service.
I'm new to detailing and a weekend warrior on my cars and can't decide on a good starter DA. Would you chose the Griot's G9 over a Maxshine M8S V2? Are the ergonomics on the G9 that far more superior than the comparable Maxshine M8S V2?

@@supersabrosinho No, you are really not supposed to. Griot's strongly recommends that you don't. The larger shroud covers the plate coverage if you put a 3 inch, so it's a concern that way as well. G8 is a great machine for the 2 to 3 inch plate coverage.
