Thanks for the video.. For the value, I'd just skip the Bauer 8mm and get the 20mm long throw. Can be had on sale for 89 bucks. Add a maxshine or Torx 5" backing plate, regrease with some decent grease and you have a much better balanced and capable machine compared to the 8mm for just around 100 bucks.
The Porter Cable 7424XP was my first polisher. I used to polish cars by hand until my neighbor came over one afternoon with his Porter Cable Polisher and What took me four hours by hand, took him about 15 minutes. I knew it was a game changer. I now use the Rupes LHR-15, 5"Pads, Porter Cable 7424XP, 3" Pads, and The Rupes Ibrid Nano, 1" and 2" Pads. The Porter Cable is probably on its way to retirement but I do still use it.
I have the Harbor Freight DA with a Meguiar's 5" backing plate. I also changed the grease in the head. The grease helped with the sound and the backing plate helped with the vibrations. I would say it's still behind the more expensive brands as far as vibrations, but if you are just starting or a DIY person, it's great.
I bought the Bauer from HF a while ago. I was skeptical and it’s the most money I’ve spent on a single item at HF. It sounds like there is something wrong with the unit you demoed. Mine doesn’t sound like a bag of marbles, but it does have a vibration much like you described. More than I would like. Mine is not nearly as noisy as the one you ran either. I haven’t looked to hard but the 6” pad is not industry “standard”. HF does sell pads, and I found their cheaper pads work better and last longer than the Bauer pads with the beveled edges. If I were to make this purchase again, based on what I’ve used and what you showed, the Maxshine tips in as a better value. Great review. Thanks for video.

Max Shine M8S V2 8mm DA in Canada is about CAD 179.99 + Shipping. The Porter Cable 7424xp is around $200 CAD on Amazon. The HF is 79.99 USD. I would have to cross the border into Niagara Falls, NY and with the conversion rate, and warranty, it's about $100 CAD. I just checked their websites to compare similar models.
max shine backing plates fit the bauer...I used that regreased it and it runs so smooth...no vibrations until it is slowing down after lifting your finger off the trigger.
What?! Max Shine, the company that’s giving him affiliate money for everyone that uses his code, gave him a tour of their company, and gave him tons of free product, won the comparison challenge!! That’s crazy!!
I'm a novice. I have a new portal cable 7424XP DA. Where do u suggest for me to get a 5 and 3 inch back plate and pads from ? Also what gage or awg wire do u use as far as extension cord ?
Do you even detail? Have you ever used Maxshine products? They are a solid company-who cares if they sponsor him!?!?! What “you-tube influencer” in any industry isn’t sponsored or affiliated?! It’s a sign of the times….don’t hate-congratulate!
While I enjoy the sarcasm and encourage it to the fullest, objectively they are all the f'ing same thing just different color plastic bodies. Any one of these will be perfectly fine for anyone to use
I don't know if it's intuition but after watching more than a few of his videos he's extremely more relaxed when he's not blatantly on the clock for whoever he's reviewing products for. I miss those videos...
Great comparison Josh. I cut my teeth on the 7424XP 9 years ago, and finally decided to upgrade to the MaxShine M15 (not the M15 Pro) this week. Used the M15 today and was super impressed. The 7424 XP just bogged down too much (stopped rotating) on even slight concave curves, glad that the M15 just breezed through these same curves without bogging down at al.
1. After listening to this whole video it sounded as though you wanted to like the Maxshine the most from the beginning. 2. If you are testing all polishers as they come, you should have used the 6” pad on the Bauer. You can only say the Bauer did not do as well as the Maxshine using an incorrectly fitted pad; which could’ve effected the Bauer’s speed, vibration, overall effectiveness as designed. Oh, I’m still considering which polisher I want to buy.
The maxshine is defintley the most powerful of these. The Harbor freight though is an amazing value. By changing to a smaller backing plate that actually increase the rotations and gives the 5" pad more polishing power. I do agree though that it could effect the balance. The bauer is heavier as well, but if youre just working on your own cars the bauer is probably a great fit! Value is amazing for sure.
I’ve always had the PC and Bauer as a back up along with a Milwaukee rotary. I picked up a Griots garage g8 and g13 combo recently on a killer sale. Saved $129 so it was a no brainer. Haven’t tried them out but I’ve heard so much hood about them and the lifetime warranty along with the price couldn’t pass em up For beginners I can’t recommend the Pc highly enough. It won’t get you in trouble and is SO intuitive to use. I’m not sure you could even burn paint with it if you tried. Thanks for your videos Josh I’m a big fan.
Clicked the link to buy the Maxshine but it said that there was an error in the url or the page has been deleted. Then tried to find it in the polisher product list but they only had the M8S V2 for $129.99. Is the product no longer available?
Bought my first polisher today, the Bauer since for ITC Members, it was only $49. Started conservatively with 5" Chemical Guys orange medium cut with their P4 polisher, after clay bar. Not bad at all... easy enough to maneuver but does vibrate quite a bit; good enough for a beginner like me and can't complain about just spending $50. Now I have something to compare with when I get the itch to upgrade (which for me usually happens sooner than later.)
Yeah I picked one up for $49 to have as a back up for my Porter Cable 7424xp. It does ok as long as you don’t use the Porter Cable and switch immediately to the Bauer. The vibes are very pronounced if you do. The PC feels much more substantial and better built but it’s apples and oranges.
Time for a new/updated video because those Harbor Freight DA polishers are not going for almost $100! No longer a budget option if it means spending $50 more for a solid brand name.
Great video, you sold me on the Porter Cable. I see why 10,000 detailers have purchased it. The defects shortcomings on the HF are understandable, how can they sell a high quality product that retails at $45
I feel so bad for anyone who already purchased the Bauer polisher. It's definitely a P.O.S just like all of their polishers. There are plenty of UA-cam channels that have reviewed that thing. The best bang for your buck in this group is Maxshine. That Bauer wouldn't even spin on one whilst spreading out the product. It stalls like a m'f'er! So this is the first time I've watched one of your vids. I like it. Nothing fancy, keeping it real.
Bought mine 16 months ago to bring back the paint on a truck I bought and it gave it a mirror shine. Maybe I got lucky with mine but I’ve had no issues and it runs like a champ.
I have the Maxshine...I have 5 inch pads and love it...I picked it up for $75. Most polishers are fine, it really comes down to technique and the type of pads you use.
Have you ever tried this, BLACK+DECKER 6-inch Random Orbit Waxer/Polisher (WP900) for $37, a detailer guy said this is all a DIYer needs, just don't use the crap pads it comes with.
I noticed on the second go around you didn’t put any additional product on the porter cable. The other two polishers you added three drops of product. Could that have been why the porter cable did so poorly? Also where’s the best place to purchase the pads and do you prefer a certain brand?
Where to get a 5 and 3 inch hook and loop backing plate for my portal cable 7424XP DA with pads ? What AWG of extension cord do u use with the portal cable 7424XP ?
I finally bought my first polisher - went with the M15pro... I considered the Bauer (under $100!), but I've learned from 20 years of woodworking, I almost always regret "saving money" on really inexpensive tools. First time detailer and viewer. I was curious what was your opinion or if you have any information about the cordless orbital polisher. I'm not super big yet and just looking around for decent products for a fair price and take off from there. Been watching a lot of your videos and have been thoroughly pleased with all the information and product reviews you have been doing. Awesome work and hope to see much more of your content in the future.
Do you have a recommendation for a cordless dual action, oscillating polisher. There's no way for me to be able to use a corded polisher because I'll be in direct sunlight. And must drive to a shaded area.
The Bauer DAs use a cheap Chinese grease I use the 20mm Bauer DA. I replaced the backing plate with a rupees backing plate n cleaned out the factory grease n replaced it with sun Lucas lithium grease n man a huge difference I use it for my detail buisness
I've been using the Porter Cable for ten years now. Initially I started in a rotary, but prefer the random orbitals. Today I have a nice set up of Rupes polishers and a Flex 3401, but the Porter Cable is the first try for just about any job I do.

Josh, thanks for another great video. Curious what compound you recommend for paint that is showing some serious signs of oxidation? X OUT or 3D One? Thanks again.
Buying a polisher today. First one besides a $60 random Amazon one. Out of all polishers out there, what’s a great beginner polisher , yet will last for awhile? Preferably under $200 for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Was looking at Adams Swirl Killer, or a Max Shine 15mm polisher. Anyone have a preference?
I use the maxshine m15pro everyday in my business and absolutely love it!! If you buy it here www.maxshinecarcare.com/ourstore/p/product/maxshine-m15-pro-series-ii-dual-action-polisher-5-inch?aff=2 and use my code imjoshv15 you’ll get 15% off
I really enjoy your videos on auto detailing. I tried the link for the M8S bundle and it doesn't work. Too old I guess. It is now over $200 so I will have to look for something else. Any thoughts?
I bought the Maxshine and was wondering your thoughts on the pads that comes with the kit.. Are they worth buying more and can you, as a professional detailer, rely on them on a day to day basis? I just need more pads to do an entire car so would love your insight. Also, are you sponsored by any manufacture, i.e. do they send you products for free to test or are do you pay for them? Really like your videos btw.
Running the wrong size pad on the Bauer is really quite unfortunate. For one, the tool is balanced to a different size pad in terms of weight so that will add vibration. Two, you most likely did not center the pad perfectly, which of course can cause added vibration. Lastly, because the pad size is different than the backing pad, and different from the other 2 tools your results will be completely skewed as the energy transfer is not the same. So just in terms of fairness, the entire test is really quite invalid. Also, seems a bit biased to compare a special sale price for the Maxshine and not even mention that the Harbor Freight polisher is frequently on sale anywhere from $39.99 to $59.99, depending on the specific sale.
Last time I polished something I didn't use the box. The box doesn't polish anything. So why do you spend so much time showing the box and why do you spend time putting the things on a scale. Just tell us what the weigh. I didn't stick around long enough to find out which polisher was any good.
Why go thru so much? Genuinely wondering why not just buy a polisher with a 5in backing plate if you have to have one instead of all these mods? Instead of buying a polisher that has the throw and plate you want in one
*Good **MyBest.Tools** power and rpm control.*
Thanks for the video.. For the value, I'd just skip the Bauer 8mm and get the 20mm long throw. Can be had on sale for 89 bucks. Preferably under $200 for Black Friday/Cyber Monday. Was looking at Adams Swirl Killer, or a Max Shine 15mm polisher. Anyone have a preference?
I use the maxshine m15pro everyday in my business and absolutely love it!! If you buy it here

and use my code imjoshv15 you’ll get 15% off
I really enjoy your videos on auto detailing. I tried the link for the M8S bundle and it doesn't work. Too old I guess. It is now over $200 so I will have to look for something else. Any thoughts?
They have a m8s v2 on their website
Great review! I have that Porter Cable as well and upgraded to the Maxshine 15mm Pro and love it. Where is the Maxshine store located?
Thanks, that's was very helpful for me 👌
Nice review
I think I’ll be getting that max shine with discount from u awesome 😎 🤙

Thank you for watching!
Thanks for the video
Thanks for watching
Would you consider taking on an apprentice?
Last time I polished something I didn't use the box. The box doesn't polish anything. So why do you spend so much time showing the box and why do you spend time putting the things on a scale. Just tell us what the weigh. I didn't stick around long enough to find out which polisher was any good.
2nd just order one with code thanks for the info
Anytime! It’s a fantastic deal for a powerful little machine
I have rupes, adams, and chemical guys buffer
They want $207 for the maxshine kit, for that money ill get a G9 bundle.
Why you us black alone please show a different color
The m8s is now $200....
I thought the video was 2 months old, but it is 2 years old. Wasted my time. The polisher is $195.00, not the 77.00. 😢
I’m new to car detailing, doesn’t anyone do hand waxing and polishing these days?
No, it's too time consuming and your hand get perform like an electric machine. Hand polishing generally isn't going to be able to get out swirl marks
Looks like harbor freight won easily to me.
Why go thru so much? Genuinely wondering why not just buy a polisher with a 5in backing plate if you have to have one instead of all these mods? Instead of buying a polisher that has the throw and plate you want in one
should have tightened the head on the bauer to make it fair
