    I agree 100 percent! I used my new G9 for the first time this past weekend. It is by far the smoothest dual action polisher I have ever used and so light compared to my older ones. This machine is a winner in my book.

      Please help me understand what dual action is and why you'd want a single action

    • @mattmiller1585
      @mattmiller1585 4 роки тому +10

      @@Fee.1 Dual-Action (or, DA) is when the tool orbits itself off-center, like planets orbiting a star. A Single-Action is also known as a rotary. It spins strictly off of a center point. The major difference is that a rotary tool cuts fast, but it also generates a lot of heat. A rotary tool takes off a lot of paint or clear coat very quickly, but because of how much heat it generates, it is very easy to burn paint. You would want a rotary if you worked in a paint/body shop, to quickly knock down the high spots of clear coat (also known as orange-peel), before polishing it to a shine. A DA is a much safer, and easier to use tool, especially for a beginner. It also allows for a much finer polish than a rotary tool would allow. If you have ever seen a used car on a lot, or a car that has just come back from a cheap detail, you can actually see the work of a rotary tool, that hasn't been polished with a DA afterward. You will see a sort of circular hologram effect in the paint. Usually it is quite obvious in direct sunlight. You'll be able to see each pass of the pad, much like looking at metal welding lines.
      Rotary tools are not for beginners, and outside of a paint/body shop in today's era, mostly unnecessary. Start with a quality DA. If you go pro, look into a DA (like the BOSS G15 or G21) for a longer throw. This just increases the length of orbit that the DA has, and will help you cut down on time a bit.
      Hope that helps!

      @roadstar499 4 роки тому

      @@mattmiller1585 i agree with a lot of what you say here.... but if an experienced user has a rotary with all the right pads and polishes vs someone using a DA i really doubt anyone would be able to see the difference...but yes the da is much more user friendly...

    Even as a guy with experience with polishers (not a pro detailer by any stretch but I've learned a lot over time), I'd love having this on my shelf as an option with other polishers. The ergonomics, lighter weight, reduced noise, and price point are all big pluses for me as a "hobbyist level" guy who takes care of his own vehicles. Great review, probably gonna kick me off the fence to go buy one.

    FYI Griots does offer a rebate if you trade in your G6. I purchased the G9 w/ 2 orange pads and a 16oz bottle of correcting cream. They sent me a shipping label and got a $87 credit. Which brought the total to about $120.00. I would have bought pads and correcting cream anyway and eventually would have spent more than $87 on products. So if you're looking to upgrade and have a G6 give them a call.
    I heard about it on another forum and wasn't sure if it was true, but it is.
    Phil thanks for the review, made me decide to upgrade from the G6 to G9.

    I just bought the G9 today because I've been using the massive Makita machine as I had no clue what I was doing. The damn thing was hard to control! So, I've been watching videos noting how the smaller head machines are far more controllable. Decided to get the G9, and what a game changer! I can do my rv by myself now, without getting frustrated and paying someone hundreds of dollars to do it because my old buffer was killing me. ! It's so much more fun to clean the rv, compared to what I was using. I love the G9

    A very high quality tool. A lot of r&d went into this design. Comfortable, ergonomic feel with minimal vibration and noise. Would have liked variable speed button and half speeds but certainly not a deal breaker. A lot of machine for $149. (If using a 5 in backing plate, the 10555 plate was designed and balanced for this buffer. You can use the older 10550, but may experience a little more vibration).

      😂a long time ain’t the word...it was a hard pill to swallow when my correction options when I wasn’t willing to buy a rotary were PC or 450 for a 3401....Now for a few bucks more than a pc you can have a machine much much more capable, comfortable and efficient at doing a full correction without the risks or skill needed to safely operate other higher powered correction tools.. For what they have here for the price, package and warranty fuck me that’s going to be a hard tool to beat. And even now with slight refinement for use in a professional environment this has the potential to be marketed as a Pro Tool.

      The difference with the G9 vs. the previous model with 5” pad use is you have to buy their counter-weight kit. It’s extra and a must or you experience the vibration issues. With it you have no issues. The old version simply allowed you to swap a 6” pad to the 5” one. This one doesn’t without that added counter-weight.
      I bought the old model not knowing this was out. I utilized Griot’s “Buy Back” program and upgraded to the G9. Ordered the 5” back plate and they told me I needed their counter-weight kit. So l I just got it with some extras accessories.

    Hello, i retired from boat detail business a few years ago after many years of wet sanding and buffing out boats.... I am 61 now and would like to start an Auto paint correction business... I want to keep it simple and work by myself maybe 20-25 hours per week having customers bring there cars to me at my home... do you have videos on starting a part time business such as this? i also have a lot body work and painting experience , dent repair,scratch removal etc..PS I have plenty of rotary buffers and only 0ne port cable DA 4.5 amp ...would you say this machine here is best choice??? i want a powerful machine that is smooth ,less vibration since us old guys hands and wrists are not as durable as they used to be... but like you i love have the right tools and supplies and system that achieves the best results... thanks for your time..

      Hi i do not have videos on starting up business however I can help you out if you contact me directly. the G9 is a great machine to get started but its not powerful enough for some touch clearcoats used by many OEM today that take a tough time to cut and buff. I personally love the G8 o use it often and love my old G15 and G21 those machines we use often with our Flex and Rupes tools. As you know not one machine can tackle the tasks of 3 or 4 because every job will be a different challenge

    I've been looking for a polisher that'll get around a whole car which obviously includes pillars as well as smaller areas. So my question is, can this polisher be fitted with a 3 or 4 inch pad/ backing plate?

    • @josephonofrio7243
      @josephonofrio7243 2 роки тому

      I don't think so. Which is the biggest drawback of the polisher. Especially if you're just buying your first machine. It won't take long to realize you need smaller pads for smaller tighter areas. The G9 forces the purchase of another polisher to do that. In my opinion you're better off getting a $79 Maxshine or similar machine that can accept a 3" backing plate. (Like the older Griot's 8mm polisher which I own. That's a much more versatile machine and does the job just as well. It's just not sexy looking) After some experience with that machine you may want to buy a longer throw unit. (Which I do) If you did that you now have two machines that give good cut (the long throw polisher) and versatility (3" backing plate polisher). The G9 gives you neither. It's a beautiful, well made, ergonomic polisher. But without 3" compatibility it doesn't make sense for me. That's why I'm not upgrading to this newer G9.

      @@autofanaticcars Thank you for your prompt response, here in Argentina many detailing workshops, automotive aesthetics use rupes, dewaltt, makita, flex and porter cable even more, to give an example, there are always 4 porter cable machines for each workshop you visit, like that is The machine that can not be missing because it never breaks and is the workhorse, here in Argentina the prices are very expensive, the opposite of the US, the porter cable costs 100 dollars and 150 dollars the G9, here in Argentina they are sold to more than double, it has a value of 350 dollars the g9 and 300 dollars the porter cable, not to mention the rupes 15 mark 3, here they leave 850 dollars, hopefully Griots manufacture the machines at 220v (those that arrive by importers or people who travel to the Outside they are 110v like the porter cable and we use transformers from 110v to 220v, which increases the price and is also uncomfortable) hopefully there a representative of GRIOTS in Argentina since they are excellent, I would like to have the g8 that your opinion has com stop with the 12mm orbit mini rupes, greetings claudio from Giscardetailing.
