Eric D, YEEEES, thanks for asking this question!! I'm contemplating having gal bladder surgery after watching Dr. Eric Berg's videos. Also, he claims we won't absorb vitamin A either. I would just prefer to try and dissolve the stones!!
Thank you for asking this. I was taking 5,000 iu - I do not have a gallbladder - I walk outside 3-4km day and eat healthy so would be getting vitamin D from food and I had nausea and loss of appetite. I read vitamin D is fat soluble and wondered if me not having a gallbladder was the cause.
@@bkc74445 hi there - just read your post and I too did not want my gallbladder removed (fear of surgery)! It was a good thing I did have it removed as it was completely compacted with big stones. If I had loosened any of them they would have been stuck in my bile ducts and that would have been a major surgery. The surgery for removal of your gallbladder is less invasive. When I woke after surgery the dr told me my gallbladder was so bad he was surprised it didn’t fall apart when he was removing it. He also told me he had to make the incision bigger to get it out. I envisioned a big incision and when I removed the gauze a few days later I laughed as it was so small! It is a minor surgery compared to what would happen if stones become lodged. I use plant digestive enzymes and I add a “fat” enzyme made by Trophic if I eat anything like a piece of pizza or lasagna. We need both modalities and this is a time you will want to consider having the surgery.

Dr. Gundry: if I take 10,000 vitamin D3 I understand you have to take the right amount of K2 to keep calcium from being drawn into our arteries, joints, brain and heart instead of our bones as it is supposed to. How much K2 should I take? Thank you.
K2 90 mcg + D3 125 mcg (5,000 iu) in spring ,summer months. X2 in fall ,winter if you’re not getting sunlight exposure. try to get outside everyday and get 30 minutes of sunlight with a brisk walk.
Hi Dr. Gundry, I am not using any sunscreen at all and I spend hours outside. Everything else in my comprehensive blood panel tests are normal but my Vitamin D and ferritin is awfully low. How can this happen? why would I even need to take a drug form of Vitamin D while all my health factors and habits are top notch. I go by the 8 rules of health in bible and I am on plant based diet. what do you think? why our own body is not making vitamin D anymore like it used to?
agree. Did read a lot before taking vitamin d and decided to take 10.000 IU D3 a day + 200 K2 + sufficient amounts of Magnesium since D needs magnesium to fully work in your body. Additionally most people are also defficient in magnesium. I recommend doing your own research and deciding with what amount of IU you want to start, ideally measuring your levels. I will do my testing next month but I am 100 % sure I was and probbaly still are defficient anyways so I am less afraid to overdose in this short time span.
it depend on your skin type and location. I come up scale base on latitude. I put latitude scale on Fitzpatrick scale base on research. So at zero degrees you start at 6 and go down by one type by 10 degrees for northern hemisphere once past 10 degrees north. and 15 degrees for southern hemisphere once past 10 degrees south.
I have trouble with constipation so I can't tolerate supplements. I will have to try to put more back in my diet. I will have to try to get more sun but not too much. If this is helpful to anyone, I think it’s worth sharing, even if I embarrass myself. I suffer from depression, anxiety and have adhd. I was told my vitamin d level was low and I bought a supplement on Amazon for 50,000 IU’s to be taken weekly. Well, I started off following the directions, completely stopped taking my vitamin D after my level reached within range and then completely forgot about the cadence. So I ended up taking 50,000 IU’s almost every other day for awhile because I completely forgot about it being weekly (I kind of want to blame my adhd, especially after quitting adderall). I didn’t get sick surprisingly and for reference, I’m a female and weight 128 pounds. I have stopped taking vitamin D as often and switched to a lower dosage amount that I can take daily without the anxiety of possible toxicity. I share this to say, I think it may take a lot of vitamin D over an extended amount of time to get sick.

Not using sun screen? Hmm too much Sun is said to give skin cancer though. Perhaps all we need is 15 minutes of Sun per day without sun screen but any more than that you need sun screen. That's what I think, what do you guys think?
@@lalobojasper2412 That's where you're wrong excessive amounts of high UV radiation causes skin cancer, now the sun in many parts of the world can only get high during certain times., and in those times that's why people wear uv protection. The body does require sunlight but preferably before 7am when the uv index is lower and after 6-7pm when it is low as well thats when you get your vitamin d and you won't even need sun screen . Find the low uv index of the sun time levels in your country and those times are when you should go out and get your vitamin D otherwise use an umbrella or sun screen. I am a scientist. There is an online UV index radar that shows you the times and index level of the sun [where you are], check it out.

I've been taking vit D since 2009, when I had multiple 6 week courses of high D2.,,my levels would go up, never above 30...I was switched to daily vitamin.. can take 1000 IU of vitamin D, no problem..but any more than that, it causes constipation. I've used the sublingual and the gummies...I resorted to sitting in the sun at peak hours for my region for 30 mins a day and it went up to the 30's but didn't stay up....finally my doctor Rx'd calcitriol..one year on it and my level of D went down from the 20's to 13...I've given up taking it above 1000 IU daily. I've been hearing about the necessity of taking K2 with it...but I have trouble digesting gel caps and can't swallow huge pills/tablets/caps....at this point my calcium levels are in the low 9's which is normal for my age (73) but my pth is 15 points above normal lab reference range and my tsh is below normal range. I think my parathyroid is preventing me absorbing the Vitamin D to keep my calcium levels in check, so the calcium doesn't end up in my arteries vs my bones. IT IS FRUSTRATING TO SAY THE LEAST.

Dr.Gundry , I like going to a base level UVB tanning bed. I feel absolutely great after a 7-10 minute session. I wonder if it's because of the vitamin D it induces?
I would like to take a higher dose of D3 but I'm afraid to do so because if I take K2 (MK7) I get horrible palpitations. Is K2 (MK4) an acceptable alternative - I tolerate that very well.
Do you get palpitations with any brand you try? Rule out the fillers of a specific brand first. Also, try a D/K combo vitamin. One less pill to take. Good luck!
You need magnesium. Taking D3 depletes magnesium. And since most of us are mag deficient, this causes problems. Mag activates D3 and alleviates heart palpitations. Take that and Vit K. K2 keeps calcium out of arteries and into the bones. Good luck!
Good to know. Mag glycinate is one of the safest forms and less likely to cause diarrhea than the other mags. You can also cut back on the mag dose if it continues to cause an issue overall. Mag citrate is also pretty safe, but can cause dependence if taken longterm and runny stool. Mag oxide is the least absorbable and very likely to cause diarrhea. MK4 is good to switch to if you can’t tolerate MK7. CoQ10 can also help w/ heart palpitations.

He said black people specifically have very low levels of Vitamin D and attributes it to the darker skin. I’ve lived in beach cities my whole life and I’ve rarely seen a black person at the beach so that could be why too. They may not sun bath. I have tanner skin and my doctor said that it acts as a sunscreen to one degree. But that may make it less likely to absorb Vitamin D as much as others.
@@allispossible8447 No. He said they “may not sunbathe”. There’s plenty of cultural reasons why we avoid the sun…(not wanting to get darker, being warned against it, using sunscreen). We tend to have very low levels of the vitamin overall bc of this avoidance. The sun is how the body makes vit d. While a white person can get daily sun needs in 15-20 mins, a black person needs 3xs as much sun exposure for the same amount. Also, black skin can block up to 99% of uvb rays (which is what your body uses to make vit d). I lifeguarded for years and spent my life around water and I can concur with his statement. I was often the only black person out in the open sun…literally sunbathing with no umbrella, tent in these areas, and swimming in the water.

I take 40,000 iu a day! It has changed my life!!

You can find supplements that contain both for this purpose
I take 300mg magnesium every day, along with the same amounts of D3/K2 as you, but never had it tested. Maybe I should.
I stay in the sun till the sun comes up till it goes back down with no shirt and have done it all my life and never hurt me
it depend on your skin type and location.

14:11 Dr Gundry can the heart palpitations be because of low magnesium levels, as high vitamin d depletes magnesium
Yes! Dr. Sanjay Gupta- York Cardio on UA-cam (not the one on CNN) talks about this. Magnesium alleviates heart palpitations and arrhythmia. I think he recommends magnesium picolinate or glycinate.
Thank for sharing Dr. G. What form of VD shall we take, synthetic version or natural version claim to derive from lanolin. There are a lot of them on the market. How much should I give to my 4 year old who has elevated TSH and IGF on the lower end? Thanks in advance for your attention.

Sunshine doesn’t cause skin cancer ♋️! It’s a big lie😂😂😂
Excellent video
Dr, I'm surprised you don't seem to be aware that vitamin D depletes magnesium, hence the palpitations. Furthermore, magnesium is necessary to activate vitamin D.
So you have a situation where vitamin D is depleting magnesium...and magnesium is being depleted such that vitamin D cannot be activated.
I appreciate the attention you brought to this 🙏🏿
Enough d3 is also important to absorb zink!!!

It drops because these vitD is artificial. VitD produced from Sun's UV lasts longer!

Good luck!
@@prettypraline I do take Magnesium but only alternate days otherwise it gives me diarrhoea.
Good to know. Mag glycinate is one of the safest forms and less likely to cause diarrhea than the other mags. You can also cut back on the mag dose if it continues to cause an issue overall. MK4 is good to switch to if you can’t tolerate MK7. CoQ10 can also help w/ heart palpitations.

Are you sure you read it correctly? I've seen a lot of things saying the opposite and can't find anything about that.
So, because you don't see black people at the beach, are you suggesting they never leave their homes? I'm just curious
