      oh wow... I'm a huge fan, thanks for putting these packs out! I'm a terrible environment designer, but I'll look into submitting something!

    I've heard that kitbash assets aren't good for video games. I haven't looked into it myself but it's worth being careful before using them.

      for sure. they’re definitely not game ready in any sense, they’re definitely not optimized and need a lot of work in-engine to be usable assets in a game (unless it’s a cut scene or some other unreachable-by-the-player area)

      @threepeatgames I'm new to Unreal. So you're saying the materials would probably be fine to use, but I'm better off probably making my own or finding a different free asset? How would I know if it's game ready if it doesn't explicitly say it? Can I put in work to make it game ready?
      I'm sorry for the questions lol thanks for your video

      @@zacharystephens174 I think you can optimize the assets for games, but it can be very time consuming. Especially if you don't know how. If you want to make a game, just use different assets.

      Yup... no collisions (DIY, I guess), origin points suck for a lot of meshes (makes transformations annoying), horrible (if any) "file management" (multiple of same mesh with rotations added when importing a building v.s. just adding the same mesh and adding rotation in the grouped mesh/blueprint/prefab. I swear for one of the larger prefabs I test imported, there were like 20 of the same pillar mesh and 30 of the same sconce mesh added to the same folder as any other cargo asset you import. There's no labeled folders or sorting for different assets, meshes, or prefabs, much less there's not even folders separating entirely different genres. So these ancient temple meshes drop completely unsorted into the same "Cargo" folder as all the other meshes from the Cyberpunk or ANY genre.
      I feel like just sorting out the mess of a folder made from importing their assets is a net loss on my life. As soon as I dug into it a tad deeper and saw there were no collisions and the weird origin points, I just deleted the test project.
      I may still use cargo's freebies as a prototyping toolset and bring in some basic stuff to get a vibe to an otherwise greybox map for play testing.

      100% not game ready, may be good for kit-bashing a proof of concept or pretty renders.

    Please tell me if Luminara is available for commercial use?

    • @threepeatgames
      @threepeatgames  2 місяці тому

      If you want to use if commercially, I believe you have to have a cargo pro license and download the assets through that, then I think (I'm not a lawyer and this isn't legal advice) they're yours even if you cancel the pro license at some time in the future... but you'd have to check with Kitbash3D on the specifics

      definitely go check out clydiie's video on this project, as it's much more comprehensive than the run-by-screaming-about-it thing I did here
