Lowe 1436. Having money and being in college usually doesn't exist simultaneously. So as the old Russian saying goes, "to make chocolate out of shit," I did my best to make this an awesome universal fishing boat for the lake and river. Great for shallow and deep water. It took quite some time but I am very happy with the way it turned out. Let me know what you think!

*This makes my old motor look like a toy **enjoyable.fishing** recommend it's well built. I haven't had it on the water yet, but I'm very sure it will perform just fine.*

Awesome build! Working on one myself with a 16ft deep v row boat. Glad I found someone who didn’t go balls to the wall and built a boat the exact way I’m trying to build mine!

Nice build. I have an old Fisher Jon boat that's been sitting in the back yard for the past 20 years. Power washed it and tore out the rotted transom. The trailer needs some work as well. But when I get it water worthy I've been thinking I might do something like this. Great video!

Looks perfect, function over form. As you use it and start making a list of everything you want to be different, you should strongly consider building a boat. You get exactly what you want and it is very rewarding.

This was recommended to me, I like watching DIY Jon boat videos.
You live down the way from me, hey from Cherokee County.
You said it, boat stuff is usually way overpriced here. I just scored an 18’x6.5’ skiff with trailer and some goodies for a steal, it’s decked out, just not how I would want.
Your set up looks good, only thing I want to do different is make a rear deck and I may also create a long side compartment “rod locker.” I see you have a new boat now, but thanks for the inspiration!

Contract on a pretty sweet build. I am Blessed to have a nice jon boat setup in my garage. Couple seats, a foot control TM on front and a dependable little motor on back, a graph, and a nice trailer. I do miss my 1988 Fisher bass boat with a 40hp on it...but it's all I need at this point since out of the 20ish places I can fish in about 1.5 hours from house...only 3 places are big enough lakes to really make me mish I had a 40hp and could go at 30mph long distances.

ALSO IN ATLANTA! I did similar - Lowes 1436, but I used a 2019 Tohatsu 9.8 ( can be converted to 20 hp for about $450) I did my decking different. Mine has factory flotation/seats on each side between the transom and last seat. I left the front open and built a long bench seat/bed sort of thing that runs from the rear seat to the middle seat on the port side. It is hinged to open and has storage underneath. I moved the battery forward behind the middle seat. I framed it with 2x2's . I have used 2x2's as a framing on several boats and find them to be a great weight saver. My entire deck and framing probably weighs 20-25 lbs. The most comments that I get are thet I put a Bimini top on mine. LOVE it!. Before this boat I had large sailboats and a houseboat docked on Lanier. Retired now!

What you did with your conversion is fine because you don’t have to suit anyone but you. I wish I was closer to where you live so I could sell my Jon boat. It’s identical in structure and size to yours but it’s built differently. The only thing I don’t like about them is that they are too narrow and I have a hard time keeping my balance. Well take care and be proud of your build. There’s a lot of people that wish they had what we have!

Get your boat repaired at a welding shop. A good welder will reinforce the damaged areas. The welder welded all the V-shaped hull reinforcements on my boat. I had rubbed a hole in one place at the rear of the boat and all the other V places were very thin. He also welded the V reinforcements on the front of the boat that was damaged by dragging the boat. My Jon boat is actually better than new. After a few years, I can say the $100 I paid the welder was money well spent.

I watched this just out of curiosity. My boat is set up almost identically, with the same cheapskate mentality. Same engine even, but it's got Tohatsu stickers on it. Mine is a 14'x60" deep V, you're looks better though, mine was super cheap because of a big dent from a tree falling on it. I really love these little boats.

Very good. I am in the process of doing research right now as I am moving to Texas from California before Christmas and getting a Jon Boat for Christmas... Just have to let wife know as I haven't told her yet... HAHAHA...
I DO plan on decking it out etc. and have been doing a lot of research and watching a lot of videos of other people crafts to get ideas... I like the Simple LOW COST way you have done your boat.
I am actually thinking of going to a two or possibly three battery set up with a PVC DYI Canopy with Solar Panels on to keep things charged as I also will be adding some lights for Night fishing etc.
I am thinking a 9.9 hp gas motor for getting around and 1 or maybe 2 trolling motors after I get to my spot as well as some strip lights and of course the required NIGHT TIME NAV lights and a couple LED Spot lights on the front side and back which I can use independently of each other..
One thing I will be sure and do is PAINT all the wood with a oil base paint to help water proof and seal it before carpet etc..
I was trying to get a better idea how you did the front to mount your pedestal seats as I have no idea yet if what I get will already have them or not...
Thank You for your video and I hope to have a video of my project up when I get started on it. You have given me some good ideas as to my boat plans..
