Love it, I like Kayak fishing, but I would love this too for the exact same reasons that you mentioned. You are an awesome young man!! I enjoy your channel.
Greg won't be able to spend 10k on a motor repair after dropping 60k on his boat lol. A story as old as time. Even cheap gas motors are crazy expensive to fix. Gotta love that you could buy an engine with more horsepower and it even comes in a luxury vehicle for the same price as a 250hp boat motor. Boats: Break Out Another Thousand.
You should put wheels on the back that you can take off when you put it in the water. I have done that with my little dingy and it makes it so much easier. Just carry it from the front of the boat and drag it so you don’t wreck the back of the boat
how is it fighting the wind with the trolling motor? Are you able to use it to stay in one spot relatively easy,? Or do you have to anchor up since you don't have foot control.
Kayaks for lyyyfe. If I did ever upgrade to a "traditional boat" it would be something like this. If you're having a hard time standing in a yak you may not have one that is stable enough. I've hauled in 4+ pound fish while standing no problem. Takes some getting used to maybe? Tight Linezzz
I got a 17 foot aluminum side council with a 40HP and galvanized trailer for $1500 years ago here in Florida and I LOVE IT!! I can get into Super skinny water on the flats here. Down to 12" deep! And yes it's a flat bottom. Nice vid my man.
My ideal boat would be a 14 foot extra wide extra deep john boat. A decent trolling motor, big battery, and a fish finder or whatever they are called nowadays. Primary power would come from a 9.9 Evinrude motor with a six-gallon tank. I think some nice comfortable seats would be nice too. This for me is but a dream, I am nearly 68 and on ss only. so no spare income for me. I have a scooter that I enjoy but that may go away as well because my back is toast. I enjoy bank fishing some different places so no boat is kind of OK. I know my dream boat is not the same as what you like but it is what I would like to have if I could.
In my area when you go from 12' to 14' it is at least a 500 dollar jump in price if the boat trailr and motor are less than 25 years old then you can expect to pay 1500 or more. I am on a rather low fixed income so it may never happen for me. I had boats in the past so it isn't like I never knew what it was like to fish of a boat.
Jeffrey Donaldson wow your area pretty expensive they sell form 150 to 300 here in Minnesota and i seen new tracker jon boat for 600. From the dealer im from Minnesota
on any lake with less than 16 miles of shore line, the boat you have is perfect ! If the lake is less than a mile across at any point you don't need to go 30 mph.
And since im a bank fisherman cuz Ive never owned a boat I’d gladly take either. If had a choice though man that’s a tough one. Jon boat= way cheaper, can take it anywhere. Big boat though lot more space better features. I’d say bigger boat.
James Reimer Few years ago I visited my in the panhandle of Florida. She had two kayaks, a two person and one person. She has a little lake behind her house that I ended up catching almost a 3lb bass and a small bass trolling with the yak. Then the next night I caught one that was a little over 6lbs!!! The 6lber pulled me around a little bit. It was fun but I really dont like them.
James Reimer I mean they do have there pros like being nice and stealthy like no noise. Can go in super shallow water, the price of them, can go on top of a car and they’re light. They’re just uncomfortable to me and it sucks landing fish in em with the paddle in the way and it’s all awkward. I just dont like em.
P85037 L I get that. Especially the uncomfortableness of it. I just bought a kayak for the first time this year. My last year from the bank my pb was like maybe 5 lbs, this year I've caught 6 all bigger and one double digit. Check my Instagram james.reimerrrrrrr if you don't believe me. I also have a 14 Jon boat stick steering with a 9.9, front mount trolling motor the works, but I prefer my kayak because of the stealth. I just bought a removable stadium seat that folds in the middle for $30 and it makes a huuuuge difference theyre are soooo many advantages to having one, but the only draw backs is uncomfortableness, and stability. But buy a seat and spend time in it and you'll get very comfortable and confident while fishing in one. You'll catch more and bigger fish all by just getting off the bank and in the water.
I bought a used 10' jon boat last year.... I was pretty uneasy with it the first time out... I watched your video and started to understand more about jon boats... My boat is a keeper... I will have no alterations made after watching this video... Thank you for posting...
Yup, if you can, do it. But, if you are on a budget (like most of us that aren’t UA-camrs or Fortune 500 jk) n you had to pick between spending all your money on the triton vs a kayak n saving the rest of the money for trips; I know which one you’d pick.
Andres Garcia I am a teacher, in NC so I am FAR from rich or even well off lol. I had a 16 ft alumacraft that my brother sold me before I got the triton. Around me if you want to fish the lakes, you have more than a kayak. There are plenty of places to put a kayak but they are just tiny creeks. I think a lot of what a person choses depends on the water around them.
My buddy and I went in together on a boat and we kept the budget at 1500. We wanted a Jon boat for all of the reasons you said. For 1500 we got a 14 foot flat bottom boat with a deck, a trailer, a 6 horse gas outboard, a foot controlled trolling motor and a 50lb electric trolling motor like you have. Also it came with a battery, charger and lights as well as a fish finder. It’s big enough to be comfortable but small enough to be manageable and there’s a lot less to go wrong with it mechanically than a big boat. We named it the “Ass Tracker” and can’t wait to hurt feelings of people with 40,000 dollar boats at tournaments lol
little boats are waaaaaayyyy better . I don't even Have to explain Dude you Already said All the word would say also . I tell my buddy's there way better then BassBoat also Lol
Name it " Hopper " ,... / or Low Water ,.... or Maybe Skipping Rocks ! . Love your videos Bro . Had fun coming up with names for your new boat. Keep up the great work my friend .
A 100 watt flexible solar panel will extend your range. Just lay it on that back bench seat near the battery. Name the boat JB for Jon Boat, or SWAK for Shallow Water Angling King.
Lol 100 watt won't do anything. I'm not sure if u know how solar works. There's lots of discussion about solar panels on boats and cats/sail boats. You would need a huge array for it to be worth it but then you won't be able to cast....
@@Bass_attack7755 I have a tiny 35 watt panel on my shed and it charges a 20 amp hour 12v battery to full in a few hours. How big are these boat batteries?
@@penguin12902 I replied wrong lol. Thought it was a catamaran video. But either way... The draw would be more than charge unless you sit quite alot. If you use trolling motor for alot of movement it will only shortly delay the inevitable dead battery if your not careful.
@@Bass_attack7755 oh ok. I figured for fishing it would be good. Troll out, anchor up for an hour or so to fish, then troll to a new spot. Sure if you're constantly on the move it will never charge as much as you're using.
Awesome video, you further convinced me to get a flat bottom Jon boat, and your right..less headaches and alot more muniverabilty and getting to that back slot..nice job
Awsome boat! I've had a 14' tracker jon with a 6 hp Mercury and mounted trolling motor on the bow for 9 years and have had crazy luck both fresh and salt water fishing (live in SW FL). Your absolutely right about the convenience of weight for easy individual handling and the flat bottom for skinny water, and I'm talking about about 3 to 4" on low tide with the motor up. The only thing I would add about your commentary is mine (as yours) is riveted and not welded, which makes it a bit vulnerable on the bottom for hitting hard objects underneath the waters surface at any speed. Kinda found it out the hard way by getting a bit brazen in my endeavors. Easy fixes though, although a stump knocker or welded jon take a bit more solid abuse, yet are also way more expensive. Great site your running My Friend! Keep up the good work and best of luck and great moments when fishin'...
I'm late but what is the threshold for big water? The biggest lake I ever fished when we had our 21' pro craft was Ft Gibson, and the biggest swells I've ever seen are 2-3ft
Since the battery has an extra set of terminals, is it possible to attach one of those solar panel trickle charger things to keep attached. If it’s slowly charging anytime the sun is out seems like it would help capacity for the day maybe. Unless they charge too slow to be effective
I traded a 19 foot old town for my 12 foot jon boat but the corners of the hull are wrecked I have access to aluminum plate and an old tin shop but no tig welder is it worth it paying for someone to repair the boat ?
I hear ya. I've come close a few times to take the dive into buying a bass boat and having a 300 or $400 payment, but that's only one thing that stopped me. The wife would be okay with the boat, but then I'd have to buy her something at the same cost... bummer
Call it The High Life, because you always look high in the beginning of your videos. That or The late awakener because you sleep through the morning....
Love it Jon B, ur spot on brotha, got a 2019 tracker 160 just for this reason. Up here in WI/MI and have been killin it where most cant. Ive Island camped etc out of my little jon boat and couldn't be more satisfied.
I would take out the seats except the rear one and fit it with a light 2-stroke 10-15hp engine, for longhauls. I see all of these murican big and heavy fishing boats popping up here in Sweden, and i must say that i feel like a king in my small and light 12 foot RIB and 30hp motor. In the end i only need a maximum of two fishing rods and a small tackle box. "Less is more". I get to more places than heavy boats, faster, cheaper and with less problems in the end. I don´t even need a winch on my trailer. Small RIBs gives lots of space, stable platforms for diving, watersports or any other adventure you can think of.
#KFNS #FTMW Love the vids man gets me pumped to go out and slang some baits. Btw I have a Guidelines Black Opps rod that you did in one of your Early arsenal videos😂 If you still don't have yours and would like one for nostalgia purposes I could send it to you.
Where can I buy this boat and trailer? I want basically this exact same setup equipment and everything. I have a family of 3 we all need to be able to ride. We total 320lbs all together. Will this work? Do I need 14ft?
You pretty much said what I have been saying my entire life. I have a 14ft deep V fishing boat with a 16 hp go-devil motor. There is pretty much nowhere that I cant get to on the water. I have literally gone straight through and over bogs to get to fish. I love my set up. Especially when the lake is over 1000 acres and has an average depth of 2.5 ft that it sits on. Which is full of cattails and lily pads by the way.
hey @Jon B. can you post some links to the battery and the portable battery charger?? Trying to get a 45 lb trolling motor (for a canoe and a jon boat) but wanna make sure I get the right battery size to last all day without every paddling.....thanks in advance if anyone else knows much appreciated.
I live in Buffalo, NY with ample access to the Niagara River and Lake Erie. Fantastic resources for boating, but many of the driveways and garages in our city are small, if the home even has either one. My only off-street parking for my boat at my home is off a narrow alley, not wide enough for a trailer and car together to navigate the turn backing in. So, what's an aspiring boat owner to do? Owning a 14' StarCraft with a small trailer allows me to disconnect my boat and trailer and "back it in" by hand. I'd never be able to haul a heavier boat in by hand. It's one of the few practical ways I can enjoy boating without moving from my home, and that makes me happy. There are days I stay in the river when it gets choppy...but the Niagara River is bigger than most lakes anyway. If anyone reading this is in a similar situation (small boat, big water) you may want to look for v hulls that handle waves better. Also spend time learning how your boat handles chop before you head out into something unruly. Verdict: small boats in dense population are a win. Small boat beats no boat. It's all about time on the water, not looking cool.
I'm looking at getting a trolling motor but haven't selected one yet. I know the bigger the motor, the more voltage it will eat. You used a 12v on this....what size, brand, amps, etc? How long did it last being used all day? Thank you!
I just got my 1040 Lund and all sorts of gadgets. 5Hp 2021 Honda coming in next month, minn kota... etc... Dude, Everything you said. I feel like I'm you. We share the exact same vision. Thanks for the great video. I've shared it and subscribed. Happy fishing!, and keep this content going -it's awesome. The pole idea? Yes.... never thought of that.
I think they are both awesome but I am more of a kayak guy personally! If you want to get some exercise, squeeze into tight areas, and feel the fight at water level, then a kayak is for you. I actually made a video on that exact topic haha

@@KnarBurger So true!
The mechanic in me started crying when you removed that nut with pliers
Same I’m sitting here like “wait he didn’t have a tool set in his truck? Or garage? Am I the only one?” 😂😂
haha me too
great vids tho mr b
That bugged me to, grab a open end or adjustable (cresent) wrench for your new trolling motor!
Same
Kayaks for lyyyfe. If I did ever upgrade to a "traditional boat" it would be something like this.
If you're having a hard time standing in a yak you may not have one that is stable enough. I've hauled in 4+ pound fish while standing no problem. Takes some getting used to maybe?
Tight Linezzz
name it "The Banger Boat" for all the banger vids you've been uploading
Chase Stayancho The Bang Boat
Jeffrey Donaldson look on craglist and you will find one way cheaper then you think
Kayak man! It's cheap affordable and get you to the best fishing holes!
You mean 9.9 yami
on any lake with less than 16 miles of shore line, the boat you have is perfect !
Dude get a kayak, it will change your game, you won't regret it. You can pick up a kick ass one for 180-250 from Dick's, Walmart, wherever.
I've got a kayak and a 18 foot triton. So both for me. Nothing wrong with having both.
😂 did you sell it to some guy from Oakdale?
little boats are waaaaaayyyy better .
@@penguin12902 oopsie lol I edited the reply to be more relevant.
@@Bass_attack7755 oh ok. I figured for fishing it would be good. Troll out, anchor up for an hour or so to fish, then troll to a new spot. Sure if you're constantly on the move it will never charge as much as you're using.
Where did you get you're trailer? What brand is it, how much did you pay for it?
probably came with the boat in a package deal
Lmao 🤣 “ well i don’t want to damage my gel coat “ For that I’m giving u a SUB !! 🤙🏽
Tyler Blackmon yes I am
Awesome video, you further convinced me to get a flat bottom Jon boat, and your right..less headaches and alot more muniverabilty and getting to that back slot..nice job
I agree 100 percent with this video Jon boats are the best. 100 percent little boat. I love my small pond fishing.
You should consider buying an epirb/PLB to put on the life jacket.
Name it the “S.S.MINNOW”
cool
I think it's only big enough for one "S" and no punctuation.
I have a fishing UA-cam channel Called

Love this man thanks I’m looking for my first boat this helped me!
name suggestion "Jon B"oat
Since the battery has an extra set of terminals, is it possible to attach one of those solar panel trickle charger things to keep attached. If it’s slowly charging anytime the sun is out seems like it would help capacity for the day maybe. Unless they charge too slow to be effective
It would be cool if you could make a “what you need to know” video on fly fishing
I'm sold ...I'm going to buy a fricking 12ft John Boat
Dank Hitman got one 12 ft $600 with a Johnson motor good condition

I traded a 19 foot old town for my 12 foot jon boat but the corners of the hull are wrecked I have access to aluminum plate and an old tin shop but no tig welder is it worth it paying for someone to repair the boat ?
Name it backwater burner
I hear ya. I've come close a few times to take the dive into buying a bass boat and having a 300 or $400 payment, but that's only one thing that stopped me. The wife would be okay with the boat, but then I'd have to buy her something at the same cost... bummer
I really want a 14ft john boat with a nice gas motor but dont have the money.
luke romesburg 1994 same
Neither do i
luke romesburg 1994 get a job or save up some money and buy one

Where did you get the long handle or whatever it’s called? And the propeller? Please respond
These are literally every exact reason I've been wanting one 😫🤣

I'm with you bro I love my lil boat
Love it Jon B, ur spot on brotha, got a 2019 tracker 160 just for this reason. Up here in WI/MI and have been killin it where most cant. Ive Island camped etc out of my little jon boat and couldn't be more satisfied.

greg schwab lol. U goofy ass.

Put a 250 on it
Because, YOLO

You pretty much said what I have been saying my entire life. I have a 14ft deep V fishing boat with a 16 hp go-devil motor. There is pretty much nowhere that I cant get to on the water. I have literally gone straight through and over bogs to get to fish. I love my set up. Especially when the lake is over 1000 acres and has an average depth of 2.5 ft that it sits on. Which is full of cattails and lily pads by the way.

I think they are both awesome but I am more of a kayak guy personally! If you want to get some exercise, squeeze into tight areas, and feel the fight at water level, then a kayak is for you. I actually made a video on that exact topic haha
