I just bought a first generation dodge cummins and I'm very happy with. I don't mind the way it drives. It takes some getting use to. It's pretty rough when you hit bumps. But I still love that truck. I do not regret buying it. It was pretty good deal too.
What you said about demand for 1st gens in relation to UA-cam videos increasing is so true. I wasn't a fan of first gens until I found your channel
fishinforfun33 yeah it is... really is..
fishinforfun33 I became a fan about 2 years ago and wanted one since but I'm also 17 like loud n proud and so I decided to do what he's doing and bought a 2nd gen that I am slowly building but daily driving it. 🤙
Just got a 93 2 wheel drive diesel. Killer truck. Straight, clean, low miles. The locals are flashing headlights on highway. It’s going to be my trailer hauling rig for camping. I’m looking for a forum for info for parts or upgrades.
Loved your video
Thanks
Dean
I appreciate you all watching! LOTS MORE CONTENT ALREADY MADE AND BEING MADE! 🤘😎🔥💯 stay tuned!

(Please understand there's no right or wrong option and I'm not some expert... these are just my views on the topic.)
The stiff ride can be fixed by removing some front leaf springs and re-arching them to lift the truck slightly higher. The rear can be reconfigured by taking the pack apart and removing some leaves, re-arching them and putting some of them on the bottom in place of the thick spring. Did mine and the truck rides very nice and still carry's the same weight.
Why I like the 12V: reliability, and simplicity
Haha if you just want to work on a truck every weekend, go with the 6.0, they are always broken
Avery Jones not that kind of fixing problems lol I'm saying building it up😂
Avery Jones otherwise yes! Lmao
You Mean The 6.BLOW
It's only broken for dipshits who throw too much power in it and only drive in the city. Go find someone who drives a 6.0 as it's intended and see if they've had problems.
Avery Jones hahahahahahaha so true
I’d kill for a single cab second gen 12 valve
FutureRN_Corey _ is the 12v 5.9 the best ????!!! I have a 06 2500 5.7 hemi. And it has 160k miles. I plan on keeping the truck. But want to do a cummins swap. I dont know anything about these engines. But everyone says these engine will last till the end of the world. I seen lots of people say the 24v 1998-2002 5.9 I6, is the best engine ever created by mankind. I want something with powerrrrr. Nothing to crazy. But I do want something built like DCF DIESELS Create engines. Can anyone help me or give me advice. Should I just stick to 6.7 V8 cummins. Or get the 24v that comes in 3rd gen 5.9 I6
@@thenewlife.pt2724 The 6.7 cummins is still an inline 6, not a V8. But if i were to swap something into it, I'd prolly do a 12 valve 5.9 cummins.
FutureRN_Corey _ I chopped mine in half, converted to short bed extra cab. All looks factory
@@thenewlife.pt2724
12v is indestructible.
The New Life. Pt2 the 6.7L Cummins is a I6, Cummins keeps their style!
I have a 91 non intercooled 12 valve with 420,000 miles and towing firewood, dirt, backhoe, etc.
Gotta love Cummins. 40% less moving parts. Two less cylinders, two less injectors, and no stickin glow plugs that you have to pull the fender well out to replace.
Trace Fuqua amen to that!
Mic drop
Badumtss
Just 1 head to rebuild or replace
Thanks for the run down on the trucks.
My first gen Dually Cummins is got 750,000 solid hard-working miles on it I still pull a 40-foot 20000 lb camper into the Smokies to Talladega every year
Wayne Burks what kind of maintenance do you do?

@@thenewlife.pt2724 get a 12 valve if you can. They are 100% mechanical, (that's right, NO electrical ANYTHING on them) very easy to work on and you can make 1000hp out of it if you want. The 24v is great as well and has more hp stock, but the 12v will be the most fun to work on. My 2 cents.
Join the cummins high mile club
The New Life. Pt2 I don’t think Cummins makes a 6.7L V8. I think you’re thinking of the 6.7L I6. You probably meant that just you typed the wrong thing lol
I got my first gen for 4K a few years ago, no rust in CA, but it was 2wd. I daily drive mine on the farm and to college, it’s at 350k now and purring like a kitten. I did have to get the ve pump rebuilt, low sulfur fuel sucks. I think the transmission is better on first gens, the 518 is just a 727 with OD, same tranny used for decades by Chrysler in cars/trucks. My ‘69 Roadrunner actually has the same transmission as my truck, so it makes buying filters easier lol.
just bought my first. 93 5 speed club cab. i live in SoCal desert so no rust whatsoever, still has stock exhaust with no leaks. 166k miles one owner for $7000
474,000 miles on my 1996 RAM 2500 4x4
josekma1 427,000 on my 1994 2500 Cummins
I have 729,538 kilometres on my 1996 ram 3500
Same buddy
And this is why I want a 12valve lol
Show off
My first diesel was a 84 f250 with a 6.9 idi that my grandpa gave me and it's how I learned how diesels work. I still have it with 300,000 on it. Like you said you can't kill those fords.
Justin Stewart nice. I bought an 84 Ford F350 with the 6.9 idi. I got it for $1300 and it has a gears vendor OD and a Banks Turbo.
I just got a 84 Ford F-250 6.9 for 800$
I have a 1993 first generation dodge. It's loud and not the smoothest truck but I still love it, it's got style.
What’s your dad do for a living🤔 I want that same job so I can have like 5 diesel trucks lying around😂.
I don’t know what his dad does but I know I’m a welder by trade and have 2 diesels(1990 f350 7.3idi, and a newly purchased 1993 d250. Cummins 5.9) and 3 gassers (1994 Honda Accord ex, 2002 Ford Explorer, and a 1980 c10 250 I6)
I recently got a cummins 2nd gen 5.9 24v 5spd. Almost 350k miles barely broke in lol, and coming close to 400k on the 98 2500, v8 magnum runs like a dream
What kind of tires are on the first gen and what size are they.. I when through all your vids and can't find any video on them.. love your channel I just bought my first cummins 2nd Gen for 1200.00 with 300,000 kms .. and I love those tires and this channel
I picked up a 91.5 first gen regular cab 4wd with a 5 speed for 3500$ but by the time I could drive it because of steering issues I had 5500$ into it but I would never sell it first gens are amazing
Went an got a 96 12valve with a nv4500 for my first diesel truck, wouldn’t want any other truck, can’t beat the sound of em
Regarding your loose steering wheel. Can I suggest a steering shock
Huh?! Love the first Gen body.
My first diesel is an 05 cummins with 225,500+ miles and still rockin!
I have a '97 2500 (~300 hp, S&B Air Intake, 4" open pipe, 5-speed, 22 mpg, 510K miles on the untouched engine, still original injectors, clean oil for about 1K miles after an oil change) and
the only additional Ram I'd purchase would have to have the P 7100 Bosch pump for sure.
L N' P, is your only vehicle your Cummins or do you own anything else? Great vid man!!
A 4X4 should always have manual locking hubs....always. Unless of course you don't want to screw-up your nail polish.
Ever heard of lockers?
Do you know where I can find extended power mirrors for myb1996 12 v. Thanks
320,000 miles on my 5-speed '95 Ext Cab 4x4 3.55 gears. Truck has been like an anvil, she just doesn't break and still gets 19-24 mpg non-towing.
My 93 4+4 extra cab dually automatic gets around 24 mpg at 60 mph on level ground. Hard to beat the 5.9 !!!!!!!
How come the 4th gen bumoer fits good with the grill bc on most theres a big gap
Don't care first gen or earlier year second gen as long as it's got the 12 valve. Had a 93 12valve that I pulled a tri axle 9900lb trailer daily for 3 years straight with 450km and it drove as smooth as a caddy
Found my 93 5 speed for 4k.... Not that hard just gotta look in the right places, also it only has 127k miles
Is that a 4th gen bumper on the 2nd gen
Awesome video brother! Good explanation! I think best truck would be either 12v or 24v 2nd gen.. much cheaper then any of the common rails. Buy it from the SOUTH! Lol 😂
Guten Abend Herr Koch!
I had a 1989 W250 with an auto. The engine was simple and bulletproof. That was the good. Here's the bad: The truck itself lacked power stock and the auto had only 3 speeds and a slippy torque converter. I sold it and bought a 3rd gen crew cab common rail 5.9 which is not as simple as the 12 valve but I like it much better. The earliest Cummins pickups had a rotary VE pump and no intercooler. Would take a lot of modding to get power to the wheels and the build quality of the truck itself didn't impress me. Even in Cali it rusted. 1992 through 1997 were better years. My 1989 foot to the floor could barely reach 70mph unloaded.
Agreed, HATE the 4 speed auto in my 93. Can't tow much with it. Manual trans, slight power bump, 3200 governor springs and the truck will be MUCH better!
Love the current content as-is but any chance you'll get into 3rd gens in the future?
Did the 1st gen come with a turbo from the factory?
Holy grail. 98 12v quad cab 5sp.GOAT PERIOD
One of my biggest mistake in life I partially trade my '93 1st Gen for an '02 2nd Gen that I have now. If I have to re-do it, I would have kept both of them. The prices on 1st Gen just keeping going up and up.
Sorry that you got the much more computerized Ram with a crappy E-Pump now - good luck!
I have been a Cummins Diesel fan since 1988 When they came out with the 89 model year. I bought my first 1st Gen in 92, it was a single cab 2wd 91.5 Auto. I traded it in for the 93 Black Sheep in 94 which I still have. I beat the crap out of it as a daily driver using it as what it was built for (WORK). As we have relocated to Wyoming, I left my little work truck 97 Ford Ranger back in Utah for now, I am back to using the Black Sheep as a daily driver again, until I get another truck or my Ranger in WY. 1st Gens can reach about 500HP with the VE Pump while the 2nd Gen (12v) can get about twice that if not more with the P-Pump, just incase some folks are looking for more power. However you are right about being able to work on them, the 1st gen is a lot easier. I love both of them myself as I bought my wife a 95 auto for better driving in the snow. I also like the old 6.2 GM's and OBS 7.3's Yes I like the old square bodies best. Keep it up young man.
The Blue Collar Preacher I have a 06 2500 5.7 hemi. Or get the 24v that comes in 3rd gen 5.9 I6
So your dads first diesel is newer than yours. Did he.have a few gassers?
What would you recommend for towing horses?
Those trucks would be even cooler if they had red interior just because it's hard to find and just really old school
I got one on my 1995 2500
98 12 valve. Or 97 powerstroke
Did you put a newer Dodge front bumper?!
347,000 on my 2009 Dodge Ram ST Quad Cab 1500 2wd with the little 4.7 V8 gasoline engine and 3:21 gear rear axle. I haul industrial machine parts and aircraft parts and I do it with a 7x14 enclosed tandem axle trailer. Just bought another 2012 Ram 1500 4.7 V8 Reg Cab Long Bed 4x4 SLT with a 3:73 gear out back. Big difference and 3:73 pulls like a mule up to 65 mph and more but the engine rpm gets high so I keep it real at 65-68 mph. I got 144,657 on the 2012 both trucks are trouble free aside from normal maintainables so I’ve become a dodge fanatic because of the money I’ve made me and my dodge trucks… they’ve been good to me. BUT ITS TIME TO GO DEISEL!!! I will search for a 1st or second gen 2wd 5.9 12v and never look back. I’d sell my 2009 almost mint condition 345,000 mi truck for $3,000 it’s rust free Georgia truck beautiful in and out white on black and chrome Pkg tow Pkg tradesman level 2 Pkg. She’s a beautiful smooth truck. My 2012 can sell for 11,000 bucks only 144,500 miles almost like new. White over black SLT with tow Pkg. That should be brought to buy a decent deisel and room to get in great shape.
I hope you don't take this the wrong way I have a 93 Dodge similar the ones on the white one mine rides like a Cadillac I did a lot of modifications to the suspension and that's what I've been driving for the past 4 years I have owned first gen's for the past 10 years and I love them
Could you please explain some of what you did to get the ride better. I have back problems but love mine.
I'll second that. Would be great if you could share what you did.
Even though I'm still at least 5 years from upgrading to a diesel truck I'm already planning ahead some and I was thinkin a 1997 7.3 but then I realized the power difference between that truck and a 6.0 and right now I'm thinkin either a 2006 or 2007 6.0 but if I can find a good 97 for a good price, that's gonna be worth a lot more in the future. And same with the 6.0 but it will definitely take longer to become worth more
So can you tell me besides a daily driver which do you think has the better towing and handeling when pulling trailers with small equipment like a mini excavator?
Cole Fernandez don't mind me but I would assume the newer truck. I've also seen it said that if you're building a towing truck and have both options to go with the 2nd gen.
There has to be at least 600,000 miles on my 92 Cummins dually. Can only guess because the odometer stopped ticking about 16 - 17 years ago.
are there any suv's made after these trucks?
After watching this video about 2 years ago I finally got me a 97 12 valve 4 door extended cab 5 speed 4x4 my dream truck
They didn't have 4-doors in '97!
Cool video 😎
I am on the hunt for either a first or second gen cummins.
I usually prefer square body trucks, but the 2nd gen is the best non-square body truck hands down.
I'm a ford guy but I'm leaning towards a Cummins
How much did y'all buy the 1st gen for?
$15k
To much
LOUD 'N' PROUD I got lucky got mine for 9k
I got my eyes on a 93 d250 with 147m for 5k worth buying?
I have a 92 Cummins for 18 years now. Tremendous engine. Rough ride! Very poor hookup from steering shaft to steering box. If I could find someone to modify that shaft with a u joint it would be a massive improvement.
Hi I'm in california and all 2nd Gens went up like crazy everyone want's one. You can find one for 10,000 and most likely beater. And if you want a garage kept one with low miles are around 27,000
Ever since I started watching your Chanel I've fallen in love with the second gens. Do you know what size wheels and tires the 1st gen has?
Jacob Royster 315/75r16
Yo lemme have that 1st gen 😂😂
Riley and Jonesy called, they want their shirt back.
No Brainer you buy the 1st gen if you love the look....2nd gen if you need better ride, power, and body that doesn't fall apart if you look at it funny...I have both, love em for different reasons
2001 4x4 x-cab cummins & 1993 4x4 reg.cab dually cummins. All day any given day i choose my 1993.
Got my kids 96 12v ext with norstar flat for $3k!! And I’ve got a line on a 93 1st gen ext 2wd dually. $4500!!!
What’s done to the 2nd gen under the hood?
You didn't go over which one has more electrical issues
I'm a ford guy but I WILL NOT a Powerstroke. A few years, four of went on a halibut fishing trip outside of Victoria in Canada.
A mile outside of the camp ground that Sunday heading home, my friend's F250 with a Powerstroke broke down. Our fishing trip became very very expensive after that. The truck had to be towed in a flatbed to Victoria. The high voltage that ran the injectors fried and it cost $400 to buy a new from a dealer in Victoria. We found only one at a wrecking yard in Portland, Oregon for $100. I fixed the truck but really hate the HEUI fuel system in the International Harvester motor.
I owned a 93 First Gen with a 12V valve and I'm really sorry I part trade on an 02 Second Gen with a 24V I own now. I would
kept both in hind sight. The straight six is really easy to work on. I wouldn't touch a Powerstroke or a Duramax for nothing.
I effectively grew up in a second gen Dodge Cummins lol
80,000 km on a diesel is nothing. I’d love to have any one of those trucks.
Have a 1st gen but I dont want to mod it. It's a classic and want to keep it original. I'd like a 2nd just to fuck around with.
First car was 06 corolla, then 2000 f150 now i have a 95 12 valve
any tips on where to find 1st gens still for sale? been looking for awhile seems like you cant find them unless you want to spend 18k+ on a mint truck.
If I had a mint first gen truck I wouldn't sell it for 18000. New truck is 65000 or more.
What’s the best year to get as far as purchasing a second generation cummins ?
97
Would u sell that 1st Gen Cummins?
How many times do you need to repeat yourself. Could have finished it in 30 seconds.
yeah I think you're right
My 91.5 Dodge has a cupholder it consist of a roll of gorilla tape on the seat set your cup right in the middle set it up against the seat and away we go hey dude I like your videos you’re a cool guy we need more good young guys like you and the sport or business whatever you wanna say and you’re all right good clean-cut guy thank you for doing my name is Jim mungai I’m from Pennsylvania and both of those trucks you have here in this video or a very nice all right we’ll catch later
First gens are good for engine access, but front suspensions are inferior to later designs.
My opinion is ; the best cummins to buy is the 5.9 24 valve.
What year does the first gen end?
First gen looks better, second gen has better mechanical stuff*
*Emmisions notwithstanding
I'm 16 and looking for a first truck and I'm thinking of about getting a 2 gen but the 95 f250 is a little cheaper but I definitely want a 2 gen in the future
Nick Bartoli would love an OBS 7.3 powerstroke 😍 and I'm a Cummins guy all the way
Those OBS trucks are getting harder and harder to find in good shape and at a reasonable price, just like the 1st and 2nd gen dodges. The OBS's are fairly easy to work on especially compared to the 99-03 trucks. Only bad thing about those trucks is they don't have 6 speeds or intercoolers.
Trace Fuqua They did put the Zf6 6 speed in an OBS, But its an extremely rare find.
I wasn't aware of that, I've sure never seen one or ever heard about one with a 6 speed. I'm guessing they started that at the end of 97 because as far as I know chevrolet didn't start putting the zf6 in their truck untill the LB7 came along in 01, and dodge was usin the NV5600.
Debating between trading my paid off car for a nicer Cummins daily driver or getting something cheaper as a project and keeping the car
Considering getting an 02 2500...I drive about 2 hours a day in the mountains. It'll also be my first diesel. Do you think it'll be reliable enough to drive daily? Or should I look for a higher mile 6.7?
Kalvin Cruz get a 12 valve second gen.
im shure they make updated parts u just have to look for them
I'd look for an older one and wouldn't touch a 6.7 with a broom stick!
New sub.
I just got a welding bed on my 95 2500
What would you do if you 98 was stolen?
So whish one do I buy?
I have 415000 and counting on my 2001 2500 4X4.
Life motivational... I'm to get this guy to close a deal on 96 ext cab turbo 12 v Cummings....
I'll take them both lol
I thought this was going to be about comparing different Cummins 5.9's. Not about comparing different Dodge trucks. Maybe the title confused me.
same here, lookin at 3 different ones coming up tomorrow at Salvage. Do to it being a silent bid, High Bidder Wins, I was hopin for more info...but all n in all "Very Entertaining Vid.... But please go easy on the repeating "Like" said that already..Hah Hah Hah
Why would you compare two trucks and only open one hood?
How many miles does your 2nd gen have?
Eduardo Mijangos could be wrong but I think it has 200-225k miles
I got a first gen 93 Cummins 4x4 5 speed flat bed for 6000
How many miles?
I like all 3 I see that little 7.3 hidden back there
ExcursionPower haha yeah they are all great.. tough to pick between these 3 solid engines
LOUD 'N' PROUD it was for me so I just bought both lol
what kind of front bumper on that 2nd gen?
3 gen ram bumper maybe 2010 to 2016 or 17
Fuckin awesome video!
