I once got a Swatch automatic chronograph with an ETA C01.211 caliber, which was shared with Tissot I guess. And for about 400 Euro. Cheap, automatic and Swiss made. But you can not really tell the time because of a lack of contrast on the dial.
I was thinking about that aswell, clearly the cheapest auto chrono in the market and has been in the market for over a decade now. They're swiss made but 100% machine assembled and pack tons of plastic parts.
hi Andrew and Tom. thank you for today's upload! I'm always looking forward to the next video😊 as for your question, in this case Tag quarts Chrono over Tissot Chrono.
@@rosschops9509 accuracy sure but also looks. I'm not en entirely a fan if either. Something about premium entry level companies that doesn't sit right with me. As Andrew looks at the positive and talk about value for money, I am more of a cynic. (Unless i am mistaken) I see the same movement year after year with a different dial, band or hands etc. But they tend to crank up the price on some pieces just because of the aesthetic. In this case where Andrew sees a bargain, I look through the window and see an over priced piece that pushes the boundaries of what it wants to be vs what it actually is ( value wise). the line between lower value and higher tier watchmaking shifts and people accept. I'm all for diversity, but that doesn't mean I have to like the end product either. I'm an A. Lange & Söhne fan through and through, there's other brands I appreciate, but only Lange gets my love and desire. I absolutely love learning about the different watches that come on the channel though. Listening to Andrew is whimsical and Tom is like that friend who's laid back and just a bloke of a character. I understand this was farther in depth than anticipated. In short I'd say I am a mechanical movement only man. But the match up here, Tag wins because of the above mentioned. Which I stills talking a lot without saying much.
I would vote for the Tissot mechanical chrono because of the sum of all of the pieces for the money. I own a Tissot 1853 Heritage Chrono with a Valjoux 7750 movement and a quartz TAG. I have to give the nod to the Tissot , but niether one is hands down my favorite watch to look at. They are both very good, but if you could only have one watch, neither one would be my choice.
Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope -- same price, same thickness, but at 40 mm and 48 h reserve. May appeal different people with its Bauhaus design though.
HAR HAR, hilarious as always. However, I wear chronograph watches for absurd reason of timing my lunch, and tea breaks. Yeah, seems OTT. But haven't had any otherwise, err problems doing so. And yes it's amazing number of times colleagues and contractors forget the date. So having a date on the watch, is welcome. Thanks you for great video.
PRX automatic chronograph is a much better purchase at that price range than a quartz peice made by anyone. Unless you have a Patek quartz at that price I think you can't beat it. 😉
Tag Heuer don't even use particularly good quartz movements, do they? 🤔 And, come on, it's only a Tag. Are they really any more prestigious than Tissot?
@@alexolife I'd agree that automatic Tissot is better than quartz Heuer, but apples to apples I'd absolutely put them above Tissot in the 'prestige' department.
before buying prx i was considering to wait for chrono but after seeing its price nah. I would rather save a bit more and buy other brands like tudor or omega or even hamilton.
Tissot auto over the Tag Quartz all day long, The thickness of the Prx is the same as the new Tudor offerings. Tissot are going in the right direction , They deserve more respect !
To me, it is mostly in competition with the Certina DS Chrono Auto. Pretty much the same price, retro look, automatic, nothing to special in terms of movement but still attractive looking.
As a PRX owner with a wrist big enough for it not to look ridiculous I am a potential buyer. The one thing I would say to any other potential buyers is try before you buy. The PRX feels like a watch built to a price which for the quartz version feels like incredible value for money, I’m not sure I’d feel the same, even if I’d bought the Powermatic version never mind the chronograph. The edges of the bracelet aren’t that well finished, they feel sharper then they should, the clasp is ok for a £300 watch, but I’d want a hell of a lot better in the £1500 price bracket. I have the solar Seiko as well but I’d still like a mechanical chrono.
Have to chuckle at their surprise at the thickness of this one. Have a bunch of 775x, Seiko 8R28, and SII NE88 chronos, including Tissot's PRS 516 auto chrono - thickness is expected. Good trade-off for the price though. This one much thinner than my Ball Spacemaster Orbital II, lol. The annoying part of any version of the 7753 movement is the date pusher button.
Between Tag’s F1 and Tissot Chrono I would go with the Prx Chrono, but I’m one of those guys that think that every collection needs a quartz watch, and the tag f1 is a cool option for me
I really wanted to like this (and 'face on' I do), but the PRX style is a well fitted, integrated, THIN watch. Its one of the few watches I would consider getting the quartz over the automatic, just to get the case even thinner! I wish they did a 2 hand version in quartz (without a second hand) that would be super slim - and would hide the quartz movement! It is nice however to see this movement used in an affordable watch, and more choice can only be better, but its just too thick!
Try it on your wr4ist before buying as a TOO thin case make the links of the bracelet not sit right especially if you have a larger wrist. The problem wit these integrated bracelets is they ARE limited on wrist diameter V case dimensions to look correct. I love them but I need a 38mm ish case with a fairly thick case to look good cos I have a narrow but very deep wrist - almost square

I use chronograph function A LOT! I literally use it almost daily for cooking, and many other things too like sometimes I have to record real-world travel times and so many other random uses. Anyone who has trained for a long time doesn't really need a smart watch for routine training, just use the chronograph and you'll be able to benchmark your performance. Especially with a rattrapante if you know how to use it. You can also estimate your improvised routing on a run, etc. with a chronograph alone... Anyone with kids NEEDS a chronograph for the daily occurrence of giving them those last 10 minutes to finish that game or whatever they're doing...and not lose track of time yourself or be accused of being unfair.

On the point of 'packing in a date onto a busy chronograph in funny/ugly places' like at the 4pm mark Seiko as always found the answer with their old Coutura Solar Chronograph Date line where they had the Date in a dedicated Dual Window below the 12 numeral. Very spiffy.
Have you seen the NASA x INTERSTELLAR - RED 3.721 Watch? I think it would make for an absolute killer of an episode. Btw you created a watch enthusiast in me. Since march I’m becoming a true nerd, thanks to you ❤️
Sapphire casebacks are also a decent way to validate the authenticity of a watch without having to open it if you are buying preowned. Without the same tooling, you can't replicate a movement 1-2-1. Even if you modify a movement to look like another one (e.g. the Rolex 3135 being a mass forged movement) you have dead giveaways that you can tell relatively easily.
Glad this came up. I'm the proud owner of the Tissot Gentleman Powermatic 80 (already a chonky boi, but then so am I), and the 3-hander PRX with the same movement didn't move me enough to consider swapping, but the Chrono seems to stroke something in my brain. I would consider this watch over the competition. Naturally I'd need to save some to get it, but it's a proper head-turner. A future classic, maybe?
Tissot > Tag, regardless of the movement; especially when comparing those movements you posited. Tissot is easily the best value in the current market. If you want a different auto chrono, consider the v8 auto by Tissot.
I just have a hard time with all the budget chronos with the chunky ETA/Valjoux movements. I do think chronographs are a cool looking complication and I would like to have one in my collection, but I just can't see wearing a 14+ mm case under any circumstances. I would take a hand wound version of a lot of these if they were under 12mm in thickness at the same price, otherwise a quality quartz chrono movement would actually make a lot of the sub-$2k chronos more appealing in my opinion. I'll probably end up buying a $200 Seagull 1963 to scratch the chrono itch and save up and save my pennies for a nicer option like a Speedy or El Primero.
As far as automatic, tissot and hamilton is your best price without looking into microbrands. Although there may be a certina model that is around that price.
If I remember well: the Lemania is even thicker, so the Valjoux is a white swan😍👌❤️👍, try to find a chronograph with that power reserve & you’ll be spending lot more moola!
It's a very cool watch... I really wanted a watch with integrated bracelet and was enthusiastic about the valjoux... I tried it on it's too big for me and I don't have a small wrist... Very top heavy! But it does look very nice... when you don't wear it... The Valjoux is well decorated at that price point... But a lot of people won't be able to wear this watch, it sits kind of weird and the bracelet is not that good. I would have bought it just for the movement! 😜 Instead I got the Maurice Lacroix Aikon, only a SW200 but the watch look is spectacular, very well finished, beautiful bracelet. And I got a very good deal on it! 😉
i do like a big watch , this seems excellent value for money , the case finishing looks exceptional and its not to dissimilar looking to the vacheron constatine overseas chronograph which also has the date window in the same place all for a fraction of the price and it has a valjoux movement which has been used by many luxury swiss brands
Ironically, I have the "normal" prx and my only complaint is that I wish it were bigger. I may need one of these. Wish they would do it in gold. I love the old school borderline garrishness of the gold.
Lol.. people will have to step aside for you to pass.. good one 👏🏻👏🏻 It's definitely huge, the prx 80 itself looks like a dinner plate, this will look like a pocket watch with straps..
I think a good option for the PRX chronograph would be to go to a manual wind with a solid back and I think you'd be able to knock a couple of those millimeters off easy😊 absolutely love the look of the watch but I feel it might be too big for my wrist😢
Still unsure about the Tissot PRX Chronograph. The usual alternatives mentioned are the various Hamilton Intra-matic chronographs. Instead of the Hamiltons, do consider a chronograph from another brand in the Swatch Group - the Mido Multifort Patrimony Chronograph. The pricing splits the difference between the Tissot and the Hamiltons. The black dial version at £1,610 (list price) is only £110 more than the Tissot's list price of £1,500.
This is pretty expensive, right about where pre owned Speedy reduced start, dont get me wrong, I love it but worth waiting for the sales as it were. Its immediate competition is the Longines Big Eye, Better movement but the cheapest are £1700 on chrono24 .....better pre owned.
Ok after a little nosy the Valjoux 7753 movement only is around £400 to buy while the Ronda 5040.d movement only found in the Tag F1 is only £50 to buy. Frightening.
Imo, it’s a nice watch, but it’s going to flop. What made the PRX great was a mix of good finishing, style/design and a reasonably price of $650 from a brand that’s got a reputable name. Asking people to spend $1750 for a Chonky Tissot… that sounds like hard sell. I think they were better off with a ETA 2894 and pricing the watch much cheaper. Around $1000 If MAEN can make the SkyMaster for under $1000 with a 2894 and
Since you asked, Tag Heuer quartz in this head-to-head. The PRX is still a looker in the the blue panda and both are a bit on the long side (lug-to-lug). But if you handed me the Tag in Gulf livery, I'd pass on the PRX.

Very enjoyable video. I like hearing about watches that cost less than £3k (ideally less than 2k).
Can you cover Sinn watches? I don't think you've ever covered them.
the last month i got a a mido multiform chrongraph M025.627 new, similar movnt , for 800 dolars , but was only because the watch is discontinued, if you take your time, those kind of watches will appear eventualy
Oof, that price is out of my range unfortunately...but I absolutely love it.
I'm always looking forward to the next video😊
as for your question, in this case Tag quarts Chrono over Tissot Chrono.
Eh? Surely you mean by accuracy and NOTHING else?😀
@@davidschurk9296 good explanation.
@@davidschurk9296 Sounds like you’re still on the hunt.😃
Junghans Max Bill Chronoscope -- same price, same thickness, but at 40 mm and 48 h reserve. May appeal different people with its Bauhaus design though.
Yeah, the Bauhaus thin hands leave me cold. I love Bauhaus design language in everything but watches.🤔
personally, the hamilton intra matic for 1000 something quid sounds like a killer deal over any of the options including the prx.
Fully agree with that, much nicer movement
Yes and it's still only 40mm wide so it wears much better.
It's great especially the silver dial version if it wasn't out of stock, I hope this isn't another Moonswatch situation.
10:05 - NGL. That's a good looking wallpaper and a great slogan btw.
Tissot PRX is a Mega Bargain! Hooray for the chunki bois!!
Great presentation with a nice touch of subtle Brit humor
it is a bit of a beast - the 3 hander (which I own in quartz) in 40mm already wears rather large...still amazing value for who enjoys it.
Can not friggin wait to add this to the collection.
Your intro makes me scream Lindybeige! Every time.
And, come on, it's only a Tag.
I've never wanted a watch like this one.
As you both joked about the usage of the chronograph function i had to laugh, because I pretty much use it daily for my corona tests at work.
Tissot auto over the Tag Quartz all day long, The thickness of the Prx is the same as the new Tudor offerings. Tissot are going in the right direction , They deserve more respect !
I have the Hamilton - it had a list price around £2k, but I found it quite easily for £1400 brand new.
Maen makes a chrono under 1500. Eta movement and smaller and thinner. Steinhart as well.
I have the blue powermatic and it’s finished really well. Try one.😀
Tissot over Tag. Really love the panda dial version.
I wish they made the time only version in the 42mm and 10mm thick
Between Tag’s F1 and Tissot Chrono I would go with the Prx Chrono, but I’m one of those guys that think that every collection needs a quartz watch, and the tag f1 is a cool option for me
Agreed, the PRX Chrono has better looks here. For a quartz option, can't go wrong with a Grand Seiko

I think the Tissot PRX chrono is too big and chunky for me but the price is definitely not bad for an automatic chrono and way better than a quartz Tag! Or even any other chrono at that price point in my opinion.
But I’ll stick to my PRX Powermatic 80 thank you.
All hail Powermatic 80. In the name of PRX we salute you.🙏🏻
I use chronograph function A LOT!
Sounds like your need a chronograph on one hand and a minute repeater on the other 🤣
@@Hublot1 No need for a minute repeater, I have excellent vision.
"OK - just 10 more minutes" should actually be a separate complication on a watch "parent function" it could be called.
@@piccalillipit9211 yea it should, but it would probably be a add-on module and add 4 more mm's to the case thickness lol
I feel like I've got the best bargain then, Seiko SRQ025J1, automatic chrono 8R48 Movement, stunning dial, credor hands, gorgeous finished case, fantastic strap and it only cost £1100
As someone who's first mechanical watch was a PRX auto, looking through the glass at the movement is still a thing of wonder to me.
I'm just hoping they make an auto version of the gold 35mm quartz PRX, it'd almost be a baby VC Historiques 222
Used Omega Speedmaster Reduced (dont make em anymore anyway) is tiny wrist solution to this problem
Tissot automatic any day over the Tag. Indeed, virtually anything over Tag. Can you tell I had a poor experience with Tag?
I think Rolex and Tags are watches that non aficionados recognise.
Tissot Chrono with that amazing bracelet beats Tag quartz all day - IMO 😊
I’ve seen it, tried it. Just too big and costs too much. Would save bit more and go for Hamilton Intramatic. Better looking watch.
I bought it this week in Tenerife during my vacation there but the price was significant lower there....
You can get very good Tissot PRS516's quartz chronos for less than £400.
TAG for sure. They have an awesome line up of quartz chronographs.
Mido Belluna Ii is a valjoux also from swatch brand that can be had for $600usd
Hi Mates! Sir Tom and Sir Talking Hands: Cheapest Auto-Chrono ever, is a Tissot as well. Tissot V8. Cheapest Swiss from 900 US. Cheapest Period.
Tissot > Tag, regardless of the movement; especially when comparing those movements you posited.
Tissot is easily the best value in the current market. If you want a different auto chrono, consider the v8 auto by Tissot.
Marloe Atlantic automatic with Seiko NE88a automatic mechanical movement for a lot less, and a beuty in my eyes.
Thanks for the many laughs. You guys are hilarious 😆
Tissot auto over quartz every time. However, I’d go for a Straton Speciale with a 7750 for less than £1k.
Even some Rado, ML or Nomos
Tissot automatic chronograph definitely preferable to a tag quartz
If quartz is not an issue, then look no further than Swatch+Omega MoonSwatch! That's if you can get your hands on one!
Instead I got the Maurice Lacroix Aikon, only a SW200 but the watch look is spectacular, very well finished, beautiful bracelet. And I got a very good deal on it! 😉
i wish they used the powermatic movement from 1948. that chronograph is much thinner at 11.9mm and 38mm case diameter.
I see you guys are working on those thumbnails after talking to Nico?😂
I would choose the Tissot any time over the TAG, just not enthusiastic about (any) Quartz either…
i do like a big watch , this seems excellent value for money , the case finishing looks exceptional and its not to dissimilar looking to the vacheron constatine overseas chronograph which also has the date window in the same place all for a fraction of the price and it has a valjoux movement which has been used by many luxury swiss brands
Satisfying yourself while looking through a shop window is a sure way to get arrested
The normal PRX is a looker, this in chrono form a lot less. I’d get the Hamilton instead
Maen Skymaster, ETA 2894-2 top grade, €1199
Youre welcome 😉
This is pretty expensive, right about where pre owned Speedy reduced start, dont get me wrong, I love it but worth waiting for the sales as it were. Its immediate competition is the Longines Big Eye, Better movement but the cheapest are £1700 on chrono24 .....better pre owned.
Ok after a little nosy the Valjoux 7753 movement only is around £400 to buy while the Ronda 5040.d movement only found in the Tag F1 is only £50 to buy. Frightening.
Here in Sweden, it's 18 000 SEK, roughly 1450 pounds.
Around $1000
If MAEN can make the SkyMaster for under $1000 with a 2894 and
obsessed with this watch since day 1. Don't know if should spent the money on this or wait and save more and go for Omega speedmaster.
The thumbnail is lit
Now that’s a good one for someone feeling the inflation’s consequences;)
Tissot vs. Tag … which is better? .. that’s easy …. Tudor!
Since you asked, Tag Heuer quartz in this head-to-head. The PRX is still a looker in the the blue panda and both are a bit on the long side (lug-to-lug). But if you handed me the Tag in Gulf livery, I'd pass on the PRX.
Price wise it's very reasonable. I'd also take a mechanical Tissot Chrono over a quartz Tag any day.
They should put the date at the top. Check out the "Omega De Ville Chronoscope" for an inventive date placement which didn't quite work.
Beware of scammers
Dear Longines, just go manual with slimmer case! Other than that, good job!
Looks like they're taking Nick's advice on the thumbnails seriously 😂
