Hi - Just watched your video on planting cacti cuttings. You mentioned that one of the pads had a flower bud and you weren't sure bud would open. I planted a cactus pad cutting that had three buds and they all opened a couple of days later. Pretty cool. Now, the pad is growing new pads. Big fan of yours. Learning a lot.
Hello… Tens of thousands of videos on how to plant cuttings and I landed on your video. I could not get any luckier. Thank you for de-mystifying this for us novices. If they paid School Teachers more I would suggest you should become one. You are really good at it. Thank you for sharing and caring.🥹 - John
Ironically, he is not a plant person. He was lucky to buy a house with a desert landscape already in place. He loves it because he practically does not need to do anything to keep them alive! Lol.
I wish I lived in an area that I could garden year round! I have a nice pair of leather gloves for my cacti, never thought to use tongs too, that's a great idea!!
Those chola cactus are so mean! I got some and they grab me and do not let go!!! I think I still have a tip lodged in my thumb. Thanks for the video. Very nice.
Tell me about it. 6 months after, the small cholla pot dropped and hooked my finger. Took me a long time to unhook it and I had a swollen finger for a day! 😣 But I still love them and continue to grow them. 😉
Todd's Tropicals, thanks! Oh, so you are familiar with desert plants then. I used to live in a tropical country then moved to the desert. I shifted from orchid growing to cactus and succulents. 😊
I had a stick cactus that had root rot. I cut the pups off and replanted them. I use Dr. Earth fertilizer to get them started. They're doing good so far. I also have some mixed succulents in my kitchen window. Greetings from Virginia. 🍀🌱🍒🐭🐾
Hi Anna! Gorgeous collection of cacti. I have a type of Teddy bear cacti and they are mean to me every time I'm careless around them. They sure keep me in check and let me know who's boss. Hahahaha. However, they are worth all the scars and take my breath away when back lit by the sun. I smiled when I saw them potted up and together because they looked beautiful. Thank you for sharing my friend. From the garden city of India to you, have a joyous day in your garden! God bless. Cheers
Yes Carl. I was only supposed to get 3 teddy bear cuttings but one got stuck in my pants and broke off the plant. They poke and they hang on to you. Lol! But you are right. The sun shining at them makes them have a “glow”. I appreciate your support, Carl. I hope your plants are all doing well.
Great cuttings from your friend, he is so generous. 😍 Thank you for sharing this potting video. This is helpful to me since I’m so clumsy in handling cactus.😂 Those spines hurts.😃 They are beautiful can’t wait for them to grow and bloom. 👌🌵💞😘
I was clumsy, too when I was just starting to grow them. But after many pricks and thorns and glochids, I learned the hard way! Lol. I’m glad you appreciate my videos. Maraming salamat. 😊
I have always fancied cacti, but feared killing and poorly caring for them. I realize I am a crazy helicopter mom - to children, dogs, and plants 😦. I have started with a small troupe and will look to your channel and fans for guidance. Thank you for sharing with other fanciers who may be too timid to start a collection.
Fantastic plants *____* here in italy we don't have the right clima for cacti, too much humidity .. i'm trying to transfer my opuntia directly in a pot with all rocks, just 10% of soil.. it is also difficult to find them in stores ;___; you are extremely lucky
Great video Ana, awesome loot bag! Kind of your friend for letting you take cuttings. They look absolutely vicious though but you did an expert job at potting them up. I’m not a fan of perlite myself, as you say it’s very light and has a habit of floating to the surface. Pumice isn’t easy to find where I am either but I do have some and more on order, like you it’s reserved for expensive or specific cacti and used sparingly lol. Awesome video once again, thank you for sharing and have a fantastic day 😊👍🌵☀️☕️
Hi, Ana! Can’t wait for the update when they start to root and grow. Awesome tip too on your potting mix. It really depends on the elements around the plants. In Baguio, they grow succulents in a more water-retaining mix because it’s cold up there and windy and the medium tends to dry faster. i love your dog! my 2 cats tend to lie down beside where i do my gardening. Darren calls them his plant guardians. 🤣 ‘til your next video. Have an awesome week ahead. 🥰
Honestly, I hate perlite. But they are cheap, and I am on a budget. Hahaha. Have you ever used charcoal in your soil? I see others use them on succulents and I’m wondering if they are good for cacti, too. 🤔
Edith, my dog likes to walk right in front of my camera whenever I’m filming. He thinks he is the star of the show. 🤩 I saw your cat inside the box in Instagram. So funny!
Our pets love to be the star of the show. 😂 Darren and I hate perlite too. Ha ha. i’ve never tried charcoal for my cacti. For houseplants, yes because it improves the ph balance in soil and promotes beneficial bacteria. It also helps increase water absorption. 🥰
My little plant guardians lol. I’ve not tried charcoal myself but I’m doing some tests with some crushed lava rock, not sure that would be suitable for you though Ana as it does dry out pretty fast but good for adding weight to the pots. Also got an Aloe growing in just pure lava rock as a test to see how it does.
Kelvin M LOL! 😄 Ironically, I am such a baby when it comes to handling spines. I use whatever I can as long as the spines don’t touch my hands. Tongs are one of my favorite tools.
Hi Anna, I commented earlier but it somewhere landed at cacti mania's channel. So I had to delete it and rewrite. Just wanted to say that you gave a great potting tutorial. Now you have lots of desert plants you could plant on the ground. But I wish I could have the teddy bear cholla. Haven't come across any yet.
Thank you Molly. If only you are close. My friend’s yard has so many of the teddy bear cholla. He wants to build a pool in his backyard so he might end up removing many of his cacti. He knows I will adopt them all, if it comes to that point.
@@CactusCaffeine Haha..Anna, if only I could get the Cholla. That would be so nicet to have in my garden. I really prefer my desert plants in the ground if I'm able to. Molly, the teddy bear cholla will definitely be in the ground once it grows. I am halfway through with my little cactus garden. The most difficult cactus project I’ve done so far! I don’t know how you make them look and sound so easy in your channel. 😄
@@CactusCaffeine Haha 😅😅 It's pretty easy to do but very time consuming. I don't do any gardening in the morning as I'm always out till about noon. I start my gardening around 5pm or earlier depending on whether the sun has gone down enough.
