    They look real nice in their own pots and the terra cotta is so pretty with them! It's hard to believe they were all in one pot!

    I love repotting my cactus. It’s always a mission especially big beefy ones. I use old pair of jeans where tongs won’t work.

    They look great! You might find it helpful cut the top off of a large vitamin bottle, or some other plastic container. Cut at an angle so you can easily scoop soil, and have better control filling a pot around a plant with it. It's free, and reuses the plastic container, which makes it much better than spending money on a specialty cup for scooping soil.

    I bought a pretty little cactus on sale the other day, and it's super tight in a 2 inch pot. So I've been researching how to pot cacti by watching UA-cam videos. I'm happy that I ran across yours and I have subscribed, which I haven't done with any of the others I've watched. I look forward to seeing more of your videos. Thank you for all of this priceless information!

    Fab repotting video Jeff! I had no idea Saskatchewan has native cacti...must be amazing seeing them in their natural habitat. The columnar cacti are fascinating, and the blooms on the Trichos are so dramatic with their size & intense colours. Looking forward to the individual placement trial for these three to see how they fare :)

    Jeff I love watching you work your magic. Is terra cotta best for 🌵? If I purchase one in a 4 inch nursery pot would I need to repot in a 4 inch terra cotta or upsize because spring is right here? Also, does the terra cotta pot need more than the one hole or will the one drainage hole be ok?

    • @EverythingPlants
      @EverythingPlants  9 місяців тому +1

      Hello! Only upsize the pot if it needs it. I love terracotta, especially for larger pots, because they allow the soil moisture to draw out much faster than compared to a plastic pot.

  • @MsJaggy

    Glochids are pretty much why I stopped getting opuntia 😬 I found duct tape to be a good method to get them out, though! Also, if you ever feel like it, I think a video about root mealybugs would be very helpful. There isn't that much information about them out there and many people don't even know they exist, let alone how difficult they can be to get rid of (wish that were me).

    I bought my first cacti last year and all the info online said do not water in winter. I know they store water but I was still afraid they would die if I gave them no water at all. I gave them a bit of water, not very often and they’re fine and growing. Do you water yours in winter?
    I had no idea we have native cacti in Canada.

    Loving your videos! I recently transplanted my haworthia (zebra plant) from a plastic container to a terra cotta and it has declined. It seems to dry out so quickly I have to water about every other day. I didn't realize this at first. Surprisingly this plant was in a plastic dish with no drainage holes (part of those cute diy's of succulent platters I did years ago) for 6 years and it has thrived. I recently put it in terra cotta pot a couple of months ago and now the tips are dry and they're starting to curl :( . Terra cotta just doesn't seem to be working well for me so now I'm afraid to put anything in them.

      A spot outside during summer and a cool spot in winter is almost a prerequisite for many cacti and other succulents if you want healthy, compact growth over many years. You'd need a very sunny windowsill if you want to keep them inside all year.
